Hit parade. The coolest SUVs Moscow Off-road Show

Demand dictates supply, this was perfectly demonstrated by the International Exhibition of SUVs, crossovers and all-terrain vehicles Off-road Show in Moscow. Modern realities are such that the word “SUV” in the consumer’s head is associated either with a huge crossover and a price of several million rubles, or with a puzoter covered on all sides with a plastic body kit. So it turns out that the main target audience of the exhibition avoids it like fire, and ordinary people have to be lured with free entry. And in the end, everyone criticizes the event... the first for lack of professionalism, the second for unjustified expectations.

Right at the entrance to the pavilion you could try out AvtoVAZ products. I honestly like the appearance of the new Tolyatti cars. While Kalina was happily jumping on the pebbles, the Niva 4x4 was swinging on a swing. I was even tempted to sign up for a test drive, but I didn’t want to stand in line.

At the Mitsubishi stand, all visitors were greeted by the new L200 pickup truck. The pregnant ant has changed in appearance, but has not become anything outstanding in terms of design. The new grille reminded me of the Nissan Murano.

I won’t say anything about equipment or any changes, I didn’t go into it. Nice, framed and okay...

I don’t understand why pickup trucks are needed in our conditions. The culture of American films about surfing and an active lifestyle does not suit us. Carrying cargo if you work as a private builder... by car for one and a half lamas? Usually, a killed VAZ four is used for such purposes.

The Land Rover stand... here it is, the standard of the concept of “SUV” in the modern sense. In general, I'm not happy with these inflatables, but I love the Evoque for its appearance.

A real SUV. Alas, now only at exhibitions and museums.

You will laugh, but the AvtoVAZ stand seemed the most popular at the exhibition. Here they demonstrated cars that were already familiar to us, but in an off-road body kit, with the prefix cross. We showed off the familiar Lada X-Ray concept, which should be a killer competitor to the Renault Sandero Stepway.

But most importantly, they showed the Lada Vesta Cross concept...

Hooray! Finally learned to draw! Yes, I know who drew it... well, okay, it still makes me happy. Honestly.

At the stand of the Ulyanovsk plant they presented the “official” off-road body kit for UAZ. It’s unclear why, if they want to discontinue it. In addition, many experienced riders write that the body kit is decorative and in real conditions everything will quickly fall off or become unusable. I won’t say anything here, I can only nod in agreement so as not to get punched in the face. 🙂

Mobile home based on GAZelle. This is a really strange decision. Not only is the car positioned as a “commercial vehicle,” but the cost of this design is more than four lamas. Now think about why it is even needed in our conditions, if the operation of campers in our country is not possible due to the lack of normal infrastructure. I sincerely believe that the most correct solution for our realities is a camper based on the UAZ Cargo designed by Alexey Klimov.

I don’t have the opportunity to buy a UAZ, and it needs a garage... so I really thought about this option. Cover tent. This design will look funny on my Sandero. There are pros and cons, but the option is worth considering for long trips.

It seems that I spent half the time I was at the exhibition near this wonderful structure. Thanks to the hospitality of the owner, I climbed inside. There is more than enough space in the tent for one person. I think it’s possible to accommodate two people, but in the case of the Sandero, I probably wouldn’t risk it. The weight of the tent is 55 kilograms, size 200x160 cm, cost 96 thousand rubles. In any case, buying such a tent without testing is very risky, and they are not available for rent.

By the way... both the Duster and the loaf are covered with a special protective coating RAPTOR™ U-POL.

UAZ pickup. Returning to the question about pickup trucks... in this case, with a tent on the roof, I liked the layout. You can travel calmly. Again, I am not an expert in this matter and can judge solely from my own considerations of logic. In the meantime... find an animal that does not come as standard.

Special solution for the side of a pickup truck. Quite convenient, I think. Eh, I wish I could make similar recesses in the back of the rear seats in the Sandero.

Miracle Yudo, no fish no fowl... just a joke. This is the Viking-29031 all-terrain swamp vehicle. On the Internet they write that the cost of this unit is from 3 lamas.

Toyota Tundra in zombie car makeup.

Not a step without noise. Wheeled-tracked all-terrain vehicle. They introduced him very modestly, or rather, not at all. However, it looks good. Where can this be used?

Mercedes-Benz W140 on steroids!

The only SUVs I can afford at this exhibition. However, here you will also have to save up a little money.

I don’t know about anyone, but I liked the exhibition. Still, I love SUVs and similar equipment more than super-powerful sports cars.

P.S.: I misspelled the first paragraph: have to lure free into s progress 🙂

Moscow will not see a full-fledged auto show this year. Instead, a small exhibition of off-road vehicles, the Moscow Off-road Show, opened today, which fits into one hall of the Crocus Expo complex. Admission is free, and most of the exhibits are products of tuning companies. Two years ago, a concept station wagon debuted at a similar exhibition, but now AvtoVAZ is not among the participants.

Of the major manufacturers, only Land Rover, Isuzu, GAZ and UAZ participate in the show. At the same time, for four there is only one conditional premiere - . The soft green car looks funny and a little toy-like, but, alas, quality is not included in the holiday package: everywhere you look, there are useless components and traces of sloppy assembly. They ask for 700 thousand rubles for this.

Also presented is the UAZ Patriot with an optional Off-road package, which will be available for production vehicles from October for an additional payment of 45 thousand rubles. The set includes a Russian-made electric winch Sprut 9000 Sport (it is located in the depths of the front bumper), a high-capacity battery and steering rod protection made of 3 mm thick steel sheet. The roof rack on the exhibition Patriot is a dealer accessory.

But there are also exotic new items on display. The brightest is the Lumberjack all-terrain vehicle (in the main photo), built in the Dr. Broman’s Place workshop, which is already known for its pickup truck based on the ZIL-130 truck. The Lumberjack's build was completed just a couple of weeks ago, and this is his first public appearance.

The frame, suspension and axles are from a GAZ-66 truck, the ZIL-157 cab is assembled from several salvaged ones. The exhibition vehicle in the Baikal configuration has a 7.4 liter V8 engine, an automatic transmission and a transfer case manufactured by the GM concern, a Zilov power steering with a GM pump, a centralized wheel inflation system and a mechanical winch. Such a Lumberjack will cost five million rubles, but a simplified version of the Taiga is also available for three million - with a V8 5.2 engine and a Chrysler automatic transmission, a gas transfer case, a simple compressor without wiring to the wheels and without a winch.

The Mushroomer all-terrain vehicle (or in fashionable Mushroomer, as it is written on the emblem) was developed and built by the KTZ Plant of Innovative Products in Vladimir. The car has an original frame, a frame-panel cab, a D1303T tractor engine (83 hp), a four-speed gearbox and a ground clearance of 410 mm.

The front suspension is spring, there are springs at the rear, the drive is permanent all-wheel drive with reduction gear, and all three differentials have electro-pneumatic locks. Load capacity - 1250 kg. The equipment includes power steering, tire inflation system, hydraulic winch and rear view camera. Judging by the sign on the booth, the exhibition Mushroom Picker is already the fifth in a row; now the creators are looking for potential buyers and promise to begin production of commercial vehicles in the fall. The price is about two million rubles. Both the Mushroom Picker and the Lumberjack are registered as all-terrain vehicles, so you need a tractor driver's license to drive them.

We've already seen six-wheeled pickups based on , and now they've been joined by the three-axle Toyota Tundra. The creators from the 4x4 Tundra technical center near Moscow claim that they were the first to make a 6x6 version based on this model. To date, this is the most complex and ambitious project of the company, which previously limited itself to less serious modifications.

The basis is taken from a slightly used Tundra from America; another rear section of the same frame is bolted and welded to the rear of the original frame. The axles are mounted on spacers, with a steel loading platform on top, although a carbon fiber superstructure is in development. The prototype is not finished yet: work is ahead on the interior. But the developers are already ready to accept orders for a similar Tundra, which, according to first estimates, will cost at least nine million rubles (including the price of the donor pickup).

Next door is another Tundra: two-axle, but with crawler tracks instead of wheels. As the creators say, the new drive is made mainly from Russian components, although there are also Chinese ones. The camper in the back is slightly used, brought from America. Such a living compartment costs approximately 1.6 million rubles.

Another company near Moscow, Ramsmobile, also started with tuning, and not at all off-road, but brought to the exhibition... Two old Hummers? Not really. These all-terrain vehicles are the result of a complete restructuring of the American sources. They have composite bodies, richly decorated interiors and new GM powertrains. The yellow Komanche convertible is equipped with a V8 6.0 petrol engine (385 hp), and the white Crusader pickup is equipped with a V8 6.5 diesel engine (212 hp).

It is important that the cars, according to the documents, have a total weight of 3498 kg, that is, they can be driven with a category B “passenger” license. But the prices are prohibitive: each converted Hummer costs 21 million rubles! The assortment also includes trailers converted from decommissioned army ones: anything can be installed there - from a swimming pool to a DJ console.

Finally, a few more photos from the Moscow Off-road Show.

In addition to traditional taxiing and sections simulating off-road terrain, a very interesting solution was presented - the whole range of obstacles - different ascents and descents mounted on the basis of one car transporter. But the most extreme thing is the “swing” at the height of the second floor. Really scary.

Dr.Broman's Place Russia

"Lumberjack"

A retro pickup truck named “Lumberjack” from the Dr.Broman’s Place workshop is dangerous to put on public roads. I released this one into the city center - and at first there was a “wow effect” and smartphones from the window. Then someone, looking intently, drove into someone - and now the center is standing still, and Yandex.Razgovorchiki is boiling again. Although, it would seem, everything is familiar: there is the GAZ-66 chassis sticking out from under the characteristic hood of the no less characteristic ZIL-157 cabin... But all the same - what an effect!

  1. The creators of The Lumberjack shoved a huge American V8 with oil and coolant radiators (the main one from a truck) into the cramped engine compartment.
  2. In the process of creating the car, the suspension was rebuilt and lifted, the brakes were modified and the exhaust was reworked, which received “cans” from... Lamborghini Gallardo! The winch drive comes from the transfer case from the firefighting "shishigi" (for a regular GAZ-66, the winch drive came from the main gearbox).
  3. The salon retained its Soviet style, but received new elements such as a “ship” automatic transmission selector. By the way, the floor can be washed even with a bucket; there are drains for water in the cabin.

The amount of alterations here is considerable. Yes, the frame, axles and spring suspensions are from the unfading “shishiga”, which will still be enough for many tuners. But the frame has been modified so that its twisting point (with its flexibility the frame initially compensates for the small strokes of the spring suspensions) is exactly behind the cabin. The cabin itself (welded from several old ones), the hood, and the engine radiator are on their own suspension so that the fasteners do not come off off-road. Instead of the original carburetor engine, there is an injection 7.4-liter V8 from a Chevrolet Suburban. The engine is boosted (more than 300 hp and 690 Nm) and is paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission, which was installed on the early Hummer H1 in the 90s.

The exhibition “Lumberjack” weighs 3.3 tons and can easily take on another ton and hook. True, its price can cut it down to the ground: 5 million rubles! And the car already has an owner. However, for those who want to order the same device, but cheaper, there is an option with a V8 and an automatic transmission from Jeep, with one transfer case, without a winch and central tire inflation.

Another “feature” of the car is not one, but two transfer cases: a second transfer case from the Chevrolet CUCV M1009 army pickup truck is attached to the GAZ one. If you turn on the low row in both (total gear ratio 5.69), the engine easily turns the huge wheels (tyres and aluminum rims - Russian) measuring 1.3 x 0.5 m and the car seems ready to climb the wall. The clearance under the axle gearbox is 41 cm, plus the factory tire inflation is retained (only push-button control was added), “self-blocks” in the axles and a mechanical winch. On the highway, the all-terrain vehicle can reach about 90 km/h. Although why does a woodcutter need asphalt?

Toyota Tundra 6x6 Hercules

In one of the charts we already have pickups and SUVs from Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Land Rover and Toyota - exotic, specific and extremely expensive equipment. But enthusiasts do not sit idly by and grow more and more new monsters. Thus, in the capital's technical center 4x4 Tundra developed, as they say, the world's first project of a full-size Toyota Tundra Hercules pickup truck with a 6x6 wheel arrangement. The rear part of the frame and the drive axle from the same pickup truck were attached to the serial track at the back - and the result was a 3-axle truck with a huge body. Although in such projects it is necessary not only to lengthen the machine, but also to create a circuit with three driving axles.

  1. At the rear there are standard springs and more energy-intensive Russian ORM shock absorbers. Air suspension (Berkut compressor, Rubena airbags) was also introduced in Russia. Option - "self-blocks" or hard ARB interlocks in bridges. At the front there are progressive springs from Yekaterinburg and two shock absorbers per wheel.
  2. From the standard transfer case, the cardan goes to the German Tibus transfer case with pneumatic control, and two cardans come out of it to drive the rear “trolley”. Drive options are 6x2, 6x4 and 6x6, the front axle is rigidly connected, there are no center differentials in the transmission.
  3. The middle axle is driven directly from the second transfer case, and the rear axle is driven by a composite cardan with an intermediate support bearing. But the technical center is already developing a scheme with a simpler transfer case: it is placed on the second axle, and from it comes the drive to the third axle.

The same Mercedes-Benz and Toyota use the so-called “through” middle axle for this. It has inter-axle and inter-axle “diffs” assembled in one housing, and a second driveshaft comes out from the rear to drive the third axle. But such a small-scale bridge costs astronomical amounts of money! Therefore, Russian craftsmen used a cheaper and simpler solution with a “two-cardan” transfer case, which we described in the sidebar. More high-torque main pairs with a number of 4.88 were also introduced into the bridges.

The production Toyota Tundra with the top-of-the-line CrewMax cab is already a hefty car. But the 3-axle truck is generally gigantic: the length of the loading platform is 3 m, the total length of the vehicle is 7.1 m! With a curb weight of about 3 tons, the Hercules will be able to shoulder up to 2 tons of cargo. And all this can be legalized, they say in the technical center. True, for driving you will need a “cargo” category C.

The standard petrol V8 (5.7 l, 381 hp) paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission has not yet been boosted in order to save resources. Although, upon customer request, a mechanical compressor will be installed on the motor. The technical center is also studying the possibility of a gasoline engine for the 4.5-liter diesel V8 from the Toyota Land Cruiser 200. But this is in the future. In the meantime, months of testing and development work await this prototype. Including the creation of a universal cargo platform and a removable living module. The finished “Hercules” will, to put it mildly, not be cheap at all: turning a serial pickup truck into a 3-axle one will cost about 7-10 million rubles, depending on the whims of the client.

"Mushroomer"

The angular, box-like all-terrain vehicle "Mushroomer" (aka Mushroomer) from the Vladimir Plant of Innovative Products "KTZ" can hardly be called a handsome man. But he doesn’t really need beauty, he’s talking about something else. Under the modified frame from the UAZ Hunter are continuous axles with portal gearboxes of our own design and a tire pressure regulation system. The result is 410 mm of ground clearance and a passable fording depth of 0.9 m, and almost absent overhangs give approach/departure angles of 50 degrees. And this is just the beginning.

  1. Just in case, Mushroomer has a Russian 4.5 t hydraulic winch.
  2. The rear suspension is spring, the front suspension is on original springs. The shape of the rear axle immediately reveals its UAZ origin, but the rear brakes are already disc, like the front. Power steering is also from UAZ.
  3. The extremely ascetic interior is warmed by an independent heater-hairdryer, but in severe frost the abundance of bare metal will definitely not please you. However, there is the possibility of interior finishing.

The drive is a permanent all-wheel drive, with a transfer case from Sobol, into which the Vladimir residents introduced their own pneumatic drive for engaging the low range and locking the center differential. The bridges are also rigidly blocked - there are Sprut cross-wheel pneumatic blockers there. One can only imagine how this Russian variation on the theme of the Italian Bremach rushes off-road on its wheels. To improve weight distribution, the UAZ fuel tanks and battery are moved to the base. The machine itself weighs 2.3 tons and carries 1.2 tons of cargo. The exhibition “Mushroom Picker” also has a frame cabin with aluminum body panels, but the metal is planned to be replaced with lighter and cheaper fiberglass.

The creators of "Mushroom Picker" aim it at fishermen-hunters, rangers, and geologists. The production of custom-made cars is expected to begin in November-December. But a practically entirely Russian all-terrain vehicle will, alas, cost like a French truffle: 1.7-2 million rubles.

But what surprised me even more was the engine. This is a Vladimir 3-cylinder air-cooled tractor turbodiesel D1303T! (Yes, we also immediately remembered the old Tatra and Magirus trucks with “air” diesel engines). But the engine is simple and light (320 kg), with a volume of 3 liters it produces 82 hp. and 250 Nm, and is paired with a UAZ 4-speed manual transmission. True, driving is also not for him: the maximum speed is only 75 km/h. But with the lowered gearbox engaged, it should crawl like... properly, like a tractor - even if you hitched a plow. By the way, for now the “Mushroom picker” is also registered as a snow and swamp-going vehicle, so you will need a tractor driver’s license.

RM Series, Art Series

The American Hummer H1 all-terrain vehicle still haunts tuners around the world: finding a car today without modifications, at least in the interior, is already good luck! So in our country they have laid hands on it again. The Russian company Russian Auto Modeling Studio began in 2007 with exclusive body kits and interior tuning for sports cars and SUVs. This year, the studio came to the capital's off-road show for the first time with luxury SUVs of the RM and ART series. It is based on the same Hummer H1, purchased, by the way, on the used market in Russia. Only globally remade.

  1. Ramsmobile brought to the exhibition a convertible, a 4-door pickup truck with a hard roof and a hatchback (the factory name for such a body is slantback).
  2. They also offer stylized trailers for SUVs, which can contain a mobile bar with music, a camper, or whatever the customer wants. They are made from NATO trailers: they are expanded and a roof from a Hummer H1 station wagon is installed on them.
  3. Remodeled interiors feature ash, oak or teak trim. All metallic “glitters” at Ramsmobile are made from food-grade stainless steel. The seats are covered with high-quality leatherette - it is more resistant to abrasion.

At Ramsmobile, purchased Hummers are completely disassembled and reassembled within 3-4 months, changing a lot of parts along the way. Instead of standard doors, they install their own, made of carbon fiber, introduce a powerful safety cage over the head (the standard Hummer does not have one) and cover the body with polyurethane for protection. The spartan interior of the production car is sent to the landfill: the cars are completely altered and the interior is re-trimmed.
