The interior of the new “eshka” received a completely redesigned front panel, which is made in the style of the older one with four round air ducts on the center console and two LCD displays (on expensive versions) with a diagonal of 12.3 inches with a resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels each and installed under the large common glass.

The left one displays instruments that have three design options: Classic, Sport and Progressive. The information on the COMAND Online multimedia complex is displayed on the right. There is also a simpler version with analog instruments and an 8.4-inch infotainment system display.

The seats on the new Mercedes E-Class 2017-2018 are offered in several versions: Base, Avantgarde, Exclusive and AMG. A massage function with nine modes is available for an additional fee. Also available as an option is an advanced Burmester 3D audio system with a power of 1,450 watts with 23 speakers (four of which are located in the ceiling) and two amplifiers: digital and analogue.

Plus there is LED interior lighting, which includes 64 colors with the ability to adjust the brightness. Of course, buyers will be offered a huge number of finishing options using leather, wood and metal. Again, in simple versions of the W213, the body finishing is noticeably simpler.

Plus, it is worth mentioning the appearance of two touch panels on the steering wheel, one of which controls the settings of the left screen, the second - the right one. Also, many different electronic systems have been prepared for the sedan.

Electronics

For example, using the Remote Parking Pilot smartphone app, you can park your car in a tight pocket while being outside. And then roll it back out just as remotely.

On the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018, the Car-to-X system was introduced to communicate the car with other cars and infrastructure. But it will only be able to “communicate” with those road users who are equipped with a similar one, so for now it is of little use.

Much more important is the modified automatic braking system, which has been taught to operate not only when obstacles appear in front, but also from the side. For example, when driving through an intersection or leaving a yard.

Also, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 body can be equipped with the Intelligent Drive semi-autonomous driving system, which includes 23 sensors, six sensors each in front and rear, four multi-mode radars, four cameras, a long-range front radar, a stereo camera behind the windshield and a sensor steering wheel position.

All this allows the car to independently stick to the chosen lane even with poor markings at speeds of up to 130 km/h, and also monitor the distance to the car in front at speeds of up to two hundred and ten. True, you can’t take your hands off the steering wheel, otherwise the system will give up.

Using the Speed ​​Limit Pilot function, you can set an automatic speed limiter that monitors road signs, and the Evasive Steering Assist system will help the driver when active maneuvering is required.

If an accident cannot be avoided, then Pre-Safe Impulse Side will not only close all the windows and tighten the seat belts, but will also push the outer passengers to the center of the cabin (if there is a risk of a side impact), and before the collision, Pre-Safe Sound will give a broadband sound volume through the speakers 25 dB, which will prepare the passengers' ears for a deafening impact.

Against this background, the Multibeam matrix head optics with 84 LEDs no longer seem like something special, although each diode is controlled electronically individually, as a result of which the headlights do not dazzle drivers of other cars, while providing excellent visibility in the dark.

Specifications

Like the previous version, the new Mercedes E Class 2018 is available in sedan, station wagon, coupe and convertible versions, and the four-door version will also have a version with an extended wheelbase (there may also be a luxury version under the Maybach sub-brand).

As for the latter, it has grown (+ 65 mm) on the standard version of the sedan (up to 2,939 mm). The car also became slightly wider and longer by 43 millimeters (4,923 mm), which made the E-Klasse 213 more spacious.

But the weight of the new model was reduced (by about 100 kg, depending on the modification), including through the use of the modular MRA platform, as well as wings, hood, trunk lid and a number of other structural elements made of aluminum. Plus, the share of high-strength steels was increased.

All versions of the new E-Class have become more economical and environmentally friendly. And not only due to the engines themselves, but also thanks to improved aerodynamics - the drag coefficient was reduced from 0.25 in the predecessor to 0.23, and active shutters are now installed not only behind the radiator grille, but also in the front bumper (not on all cars).

Buyers are offered three suspension options to choose from: standard comfort with steel springs, lowered by 15 mm in the Avantgarde version, and lowered sports with pneumatic elements and adjustable stiffness. Moreover, all are supplemented with adaptive shock absorbers.

Engines

The line of power units of the Mercedes E-Class 2018-2019 includes many gasoline and diesel engines. But at first, only two engines were offered for the sedan - 2.0-liter fours with a power of 184 hp. (300 Nm) on the E 200 and 195 forces (400 Nm) on the diesel E 200d. Both are equipped with a 9-band 9G-Tronic automatic transmission.

Later, modifications of the E 350d appeared with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine producing 258 hp. (620 Nm), all-wheel drive E 400 4MATIC with a three-liter gasoline “six” with output of 333 hp. and 480 Nm of torque. There is also a 245-horsepower engine and an initial 150-horsepower diesel engine.

And the new Mercedes E is available in a hybrid version, the E 350e, with a total output of 279 horsepower and 600 Nm. This one reaches a hundred from a standstill in 6.2 seconds, its average fuel consumption in the combined cycle is stated at 2.1 liters per 100 km, and on electric power it can cover a distance of up to 30 kilometers.

At the top of the range is located, under the hood of which, instead of the previous 5.5-liter V8 biturbo, there is a 4.0-liter “eight” with a capacity of 571 and 612 “horses”. And it is also paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

What is the price

The European premiere of the Mercedes E-Class in the new W213 body took place in March at the Geneva Motor Show on the 16th, and the first cars reached Russian dealers in April.

At first, we had two versions available - the petrol E 200 was priced at 2,970,000 rubles, the diesel E 220d costs from 3,660,000 rubles. Later, versions appeared with an initial 150-horsepower diesel engine E 200d (3,030,000), 245-horsepower E 300 (from 3,520,000), all-wheel drive E 400 4MATIC (from 4,340,000) and “warmed up” E 43 (from 5,200,000 ).

The standard equipment of the model on the Russian market includes diode head optics, light and rain sensors, climate control, Artico artificial leather seats, Garmin navigation, 17-inch wheels and a larger fuel tank.

The history of this popular model, which has always combined comfort, reliability and a high degree of safety, is very extensive. The first car of this series (model 170) was created in 1947 and marked the beginning of post-war production. This was followed in 1953 by the 180 and 190, better known as the "Ponton Mercedes". Over the next 9 years, more than 468 thousand cars of this series, including diesel ones, were sold. Production of the W110 series began in 1961, and until February 1968, more than 628 thousand cars were produced. This successful series was replaced by the equally successful W114/115. In 1968, a sedan with an extended wheelbase was released for the first time, as well as a coupe version. The W123 series followed in 1976. In addition, a station wagon version has appeared. And finally, the debut of the W124 series, which took place in November 1984. Thus, 5 generations of cars passed before the E-Class appeared in 1995, which truly surprised everyone with its fundamentally new “four-eyed” face.

Models of the “W124” series of early years can be distinguished from examples of the real E-class, manufactured no earlier than the end of ’93, by a deep niche for the rear license plate and narrow black side moldings. Of particular interest is the “one-armed dancing “janitor”. The W124 featured an automatic locking differential (ASD), an anti-skid system (ASR) and, for the first time on a production Mercedes passenger car, all-wheel drive with automatic torque distribution (4Matic). In September 1988, W124 buyers were offered an airbag as an optional equipment..... Four years later, both the airbag and ABS became standard equipment on all Mercedes.

Quite conservative (in a good way) and easy to use, reliable, with durable engines and a spacious interior, coupled with an excellent interior design and ergonomics, the Mercedes-Benz W124 is practically a standard passenger car of the 1980s. There were seven interior options with tapestry or leather seat trim. A huge amount of adjustment for the driver's seat, remotely retractable rear headrests, comfortable seat belts, tightness and excellent sound insulation of the body - this is worth paying for for those who value driving comfort and safety above all else. The only drawback of the huge 520-liter luggage compartment - the inability to accommodate long cargo inside the cabin - is compensated by good lighting, a low luggage compartment lip and practical pockets for small items and tools.

In August 1989, the W124 underwent a cosmetic retouch. It received wide plastic trim on the doors and the bottom of the body with chrome molding. Chrome appeared on the bumpers and door handles. The headlight lenses have changed. There is more space in the cabin, more comfortable seats have appeared, and more valuable types of wood have been used in the decoration. In the same year, engines with fully electronically controlled power and ignition systems were introduced for the first time on the Mercedes W124.

So, as a result of the next modernization of the W124 model, the first E-class appeared at the end of 1993, which remains a rather prestigious car to this day. At that time, a new indexation of all Mercedes-Benz was introduced: instead of “200E”, “220E” and so on came the more modern “E200”, “E220”, “E280”... The letter in front means E-class, and the following numbers - engine capacity. This is how the first E-class appeared, which will be discussed.

The first E-Class was distinguished by an almost flat rear wall of the trunk lid (very similar to the “one hundred and fortieth”), so that the deep niche of the license plate gave way to simple stamping, there were chrome moldings and wide trims on the sides of the body, the radiator grille was “recessed” into the hood. When the E-Class went on sale, there were many cars of the previous generation remaining in the warehouses of Mercedes dealers throughout Europe, which began to be converted into the E-Class. To do this, it was necessary, by and large, to replace only the hood with a false radiator grille and the trunk lid. European dealers carried out this operation only with cars of 92-93, which already had gasoline engines with four valves per cylinder (technically, these cars are no different from the E-class). However, in our market you can find supposedly E-classes from the eighties! Simply, in addition to everything else, instead of old-fashioned side moldings, modern plastic linings are installed on the sides of the body. Such machines are primarily produced by engines with two valves per cylinder. In the service, you can check the year of manufacture of the car by downloading its VIN number to the computer.

Mercedes cars are initially very expensive, but at the same time very strong and durable. The E-Class comes in several body styles, primarily the “sedans” that dominate the used car market. E-Class station wagons (Touring) are the best option for practical people. Having retained all the advantages of a sedan, the station wagon has the advantage of a large usable interior volume, which, with the rear (middle) row of seats folded, reached 2180 liters. In its trunk you can install an additional 2-seater seat, with which the total number of seats reaches seven. However, the main rear seat can be folded in a 2:1 ratio. The model retains a unique rear hydraulic suspension with automatic inflation to maintain a constant level of the rear part of the body above the road. In the Mercedes program, a station wagon is designated by the letter “T” after the numbers, for example, “E280T”. This is one of the most spacious station wagons in its class.

Traditionally, “personal” Mercedes-Benz models with a two-door coupe body without a B-pillar have always been considered refined - the so-called hardtop, which, with the side windows lowered, is comparable in terms of interior “ventilation” to a convertible. At the same time, such a body is much more practical, and its passive safety is higher. The streamlined body, made on a shortened (85 mm) sedan chassis, turned out to be very stylish. The coupe was designated by the letter “C”.

The Cabrio convertible is based on the coupe. One of the few convertibles created on the basis of a business class car. This full-fledged four-seater car (which is rare among modern cars of this type) with an automatically folding top was equipped only with gasoline engines.

The Mercedes E-class is one of the few cars that is offered with such a wide range of engines - from modest four-cylinders to multi-liter V8s...

The M111 series is equipped with two four-cylinder engines - “E200” with a power of 136 hp. and “E220” - 150 hp. These engines themselves are reliable and durable, but they were equipped with different injection systems. An unsuccessful option is the so-called PMS injection. Its control unit is overly sensitive to water and salt. He is afraid of a basic engine wash.

Next is the six-cylinder E-class series “M104” - modifications “E280” (193 hp) and “E320” (220 hp) - with typical Mercedes noiselessness and dynamism even when fully loaded. However, you have to pay for this with significant fuel consumption. In the city, six-cylinder cars consume about 17 l/100 km. Motors of the M104 series are very durable.

The powerful E420 M119 series with an eight-cylinder engine can compete on equal terms with fast modern Mercs. The car is equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 with a capacity of 279 horsepower. This engine is perhaps the most reliable, but also quite voracious: with restrained driving, every hundred kilometers a twenty-liter canister of not the cheapest gasoline flies down the drain. In short, the car is addressed to those who really love driving fast and are able to maintain such a fast car.

The dream of many collectors is the legendary E500 - a reliable and incredibly fast sedan. Externally, Super Mercs are distinguished by separate headlights, differently shaped bumpers with standard front foglights, widely flared front and rear wheel arches and a rich interior with sports seats. The rest is a classic and noble “one hundred and twenty-fourth”. This super-powerful (326 hp) model with a 5-liter M117 V8 engine from the “five hundredth” S-class reaches 100 km/h in just 6.1 s. This model was assembled on the Porsche assembly line. For particularly hotheads, the E60 AMG version with a 6-liter V8 producing 381 hp was offered. and acceleration of 5.4 seconds. But there are very few of them even in Germany. In the Mercedes-Benz tradition, both models were equipped only with automatic transmissions.

E-Class diesel Mercedes are also worthy of attention. The E200 Diesel version at one time attracted buyers due to its low cost. It cost even less than the gasoline E200! However, the four-cylinder diesel is downright noisy and produces noticeable vibration. The most popular due to the price/performance ratio was the 5-cylinder diesel engine. It is much softer and quieter in operation. The three-liter inline six was offered in two versions: naturally aspirated (136 hp) and turbocharged (147 hp). Cars with such engines are expensive both in themselves and in maintenance. The “six” operates with virtually no characteristic diesel rattle, and is exceptionally smooth. Finally, the EZ00 Diesel and EZ00 Turbodiesel are very fast and dynamic.

In 1995, Mercedes-Benz introduced E-class passenger cars in a new body - the W210 with 4 round headlights. The “210th” was a worthy successor to the “124” series car, which sold 2.7 million units worldwide. The new design of the front end with seemingly separate round headlights (in fact, they are combined into two complex-shaped headlights) is not enough leaves anyone indifferent. The “big-eyed Mercedes” inherited the main features of the corporate identity, which was confirmed by the unprecedented growth in European sales of the model in the next three years, such that many of its competitors in the top sector of the market (F) had to make room for a lot. The 210 series of sedans remains the most successful in the upper middle class.

Like its predecessor with the 124 body, the E-Class is a strong and reliable car. The smooth ride of this car is impressive. The improved wheel suspension almost completely neutralizes the impact of road irregularities. For the first time on cars of this class, rack and pinion steering was used. Among the innovations are a rain sensor, an outside air pollution sensor, and the Parktronic system. A year later, an “adaptive” 5-speed FRG with electronic control appeared, allowing you to change the switching algorithm depending on your driving style.

For E-class vehicles, more than 6,400 options are available to fulfill individual wishes in terms of design and technical equipment. Additional equipment and accessories include: child seats, refrigerator, comfortable seats with ventilation, dynamic navigation system (DynAPS), Comand control and display system with integrated radio and navigation system, etc.

Initially, the E-Class had a fairly rich basic package, which included electrical accessories (mirror windows) and height-adjustable front seats. For safety reasons, the car was equipped with a Window-Bag airbag, which deploys in the form of a curtain between the front and rear pillars during a side impact; two-stage front airbags; inertial seat belts; multifunction steering wheel, ABS, ESP. All this equipment was available regardless of the design and interior equipment, of which there were three: Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde. The cheapest of them is considered Classic, which is distinguished by the absence of leather and minimal use of wood in the interior trim, simple wheels, green tinted windows and a “low” center console - without an armrest between the front seats. But even this option is very representative. The sedan's trunk, despite its large 520-liter volume, is also very comfortable.

Cars in the Elegance style look more luxurious thanks to the chrome on the external door handles and bumpers. The interior of this version sports walnut trim. The steering wheel and gear lever are covered in leather, which can also be used to trim the seats. Wheels are cast, ten-spoke. Instead of rotating handles for ventilation, air conditioning and the “stove”, a modern microclimate control unit with a display and keys is already used on the center console.

The most elite version is Avantgarde. It has, so to speak, a sporting bent. The interior is trimmed in dark, almost black maple and leather. Special wheels and almost obligatory xenon light give respectability to the appearance. In addition, in the Avantgarde version, the glass is tinted not with the widely used green, but with blue. However, it should be taken into account that the low Avantgarde sports suspension does not cope well with Russian roads.

Since 1997, all E-class cars began to be equipped with the “Brake Assist” system, which recognizes extreme braking and helps the driver reduce the braking distance to a minimum. In addition, this system itself monitors faults that occur in the engine, electrical or transmission and reminds you to change the oil or brake fluid using the “Check Engine” light on the dashboard. Even the service book states that visits to the service station are carried out at intervals of 15,000-22,000 km based on the signal from this light bulb.

Since 1997, all-wheel drive versions of the E-class have appeared in the program - “4Matic” (4x4 transmission). This is a complex transmission that combines a 5-speed automatic transmission and a traction control system - in case of slipping, it brakes the spinning wheel, providing better traction. This 4Matic transmission constantly smoothly redistributes torque between the front and rear axles through viscous couplings (during normal driving in a ratio of 33:66), and there are no inter-wheel or center differential locks, as they are replaced by a “smart” ETS system, which itself brakes the slipping wheel behind due to the standard brake system.

The E-class offers a wide range of engines, which are divided into three groups. The first includes economical gasoline and diesel engines with a displacement of 2.0-2.7 liters and a power of 115-170 hp. Cars with such engines have low fuel consumption and fully satisfy the needs of most E-class owners.

Another group includes more powerful 6-cylinder 2.8- and 3.2-liter engines, which, as a rule, work with automatic 5-speed transmissions. These engines allow you to fully reveal the full potential of the design inherent in the E-class. More modern engines appeared in 1997. These are not in-line, but already V-shaped “sixes” with a volume of 2.4, 2.8 and 3.2 liters (170, 204 and 224 power, respectively). V6s are on average 25% lighter than the previous generation's inline-sixes, they are superbly balanced, and their operation is almost invisible on the controls. And fuel consumption has decreased compared to its in-line counterparts - in the city it will be about 13 liters. In the E-class, such popular station wagon models were also equipped with new V-shaped 6-cylinder engines (129-279 hp)

The third includes the most prestigious V-shaped “eight” engines with a working volume of 4.3 and 5.4 liters. The models equipped with them can perhaps be classified as executive ones. For the powerful E420 with a 4.2-liter V8 with a power of 279 horsepower, since 1997 the Germans have increased the engine capacity by 100 cubic meters, leaving the power unchanged - in order to increase the already considerable torque. Average fuel consumption is about 20 l/100 km. The Mercedes tuning studio launched the E50 AMG model on the market in 1996, and a year later, in 1997, the E 55 AMG modification, the most powerful sports sedan, was presented in Frankfurt. The main changes that AMG made to the standard E-Class concerned improvements to the engine, suspension and car body.

Thus, the E50 AMG received a forced 5-liter V8 with a capacity of 347 horsepower. With such potential, the car accelerated to hundreds in 7.2 seconds, and the top speed was limited to the standard 250 km/h. The E55 AMG model had an even more impressive 5.4-liter V8 with 354 horsepower. Therefore, acceleration to hundreds takes only 5.7 seconds, and the powerful torque (530 Nm) literally throws the car forward even from 200 km/h. Externally, AMG cars are distinguished by plastic door sills, lower bumpers, additional spoilers and special sports wheels. The ground clearance of the sports E-class is 2.5 cm less than the standard model. A chic two-tone leather interior is the hallmark of AMG creations.

And in 1998, the big-eyed ones began to be equipped with new-generation diesel engines with a Common Rail power system (Mercedes with such engines are designated by the CDI index). The previously known E200CDI and E220CDI were retained, but received more powerful engines of 115 and 143 hp. instead of the previous 102 and 125 hp.

From 1995 to 1999 More than 1 million W210 cars have been produced, most of which are used in Europe. It is not for nothing that this model has been and remains one of the business class standards. In the summer of 1999, the big-eyed one underwent modernization; over 1,800 different changes were made to the design. New engines and transmissions appeared, equipment changed. The extensive program of E-class models, by the beginning of 2000, included 27 basic configurations. The external difference between the “new” cars and the “old” ones is the shape of a lower front end with an integrated bumper, the edge of which reaches the middle of the headlights. Such a car is easy to recognize by the direction indicators implanted in the exterior mirrors, while in the early version the “flashing lights” are located on the front wings. Among the features of the E-Class station wagon is a very spacious luggage compartment, the volume of which reaches 1.97 m3 with the rear seat folded. As standard equipment, E-Class Mercedes are equipped with an electronic stability control system (ESP). On all-wheel drive versions of 4Matic, it is no longer the traditional differential locking system that is used, but an imitation of locking by braking the slipping wheels using ABS.

Since 2000, models have been equipped with 270 CDI and 320 CDI engines. The all-wheel drive E430 4 Matic appeared in the program, the front wheels of which are connected, however, only when the rear wheels slip. The most powerful sports sedan E55 AMG 4 Matic and station wagon E55T AMG 4 Matic are distinguished by their special design and excellent speed characteristics. At the end of 2001, the appearance of the E400 CDI model with the latest 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 diesel engine producing 250 hp.

In November 2001, production of the W210 ceased. Station wagon modifications were assembled until the beginning of 2003. The exact number of cars produced with the body W210-1350128. This is about 24% of the number of passenger Mercedes produced from 1995 to 2001. A significant event in November 2001 was that the figure of 10 million sales of E-Class cars in their entire history was reached.

In January 2002, the premiere of the new E-class sedan (body type W211) took place. The car has “added” a little more in size, and its appearance has acquired a more rapid appearance - a magnificent sculptural form made of glass and steel. The highest level of comfort for both driver and passengers corresponds to the same level of active and passive safety.

Externally, the car retained the style of its predecessor: the same separate round headlights at the front, only now they consist of several lamps hidden under one cap. The rear of the new E-class is made in the style of the Mercedes S-class executive sedan. The car's interior is now significantly more spacious thanks to an increased wheelbase, as well as a newly designed interior. Informative devices in the form of liquid crystal columns will provide only the most necessary and relevant information, and the sound of a running engine and the noise of city streets will not disturb you thanks to almost perfect noise insulation.

Initially, the creators not only provided E-class cars with a rich set of equipment, but also equipped them with the most innovative technology. A semi-active air suspension, Airmatic Dual Control, was developed especially for the E-class, which is standard equipment on the E 500 model. It allows the car to “not notice” bumps and float above the road.

The Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) braking system takes care of the safety of passengers: it automatically dries the brake discs on wet roads and, thanks to its advantages, optimizes the functions of other safety systems ESP, ASR, ABS and BAS. The computer calculates the required braking force and distributes it purposefully to the wheels. The car is also capable of changing lanes. The driver only needs to indicate in which direction to change lanes, after which the car will comply with the command, provided that the adjacent lane is free.

The electronics can also detect obstacles on the road and activate the braking system. If a collision is unavoidable, a loud sound will be heard in the cabin, warning people of the impending danger.
