We consider the pros and cons of the new Fabia Combi and give ratings. Impressions of car enthusiasts from the operation of the Škoda Fabia Skoda fabia 1 or 2 which is better

It’s not new to anyone that absolutely any car has a number of pros and cons. In addition, almost every car has several or a whole list of weak points that every future owner of the car being analyzed should know about. The second generation Skoda Fabia is no exception in the presence of such problem areas. Next, the significant weak points of the Skoda Fabia will be described depending on engine size and in general.

Weaknesses of the Skoda Fabia

Throttle position sensor for 1.6 l engine;
Timing chain of 1.2 l engine;
Ignition coils for 1.4 l engine;
Electronics;
Windshield wiper drive.

Now more details...

Electronics.

The electronics throughout the car are not particularly reliable. The very first malfunction, which even caused a company recall, is the non-functioning heated seats. Window regulators can also fail at any time. It is not uncommon for car owners to encounter problems with the engine fan. When purchasing mechanisms powered by electricity, you need to pay special attention.

Windshield wiper drive.

Not to say that this is a serious problem with the Skoda Fabia, but it does exist. And most importantly, the windshield wiper drive can fail at the most inopportune moment. This is worth knowing and checking, especially since this procedure will only take a few seconds.

For a 1.6 liter engine.

The most problematic area for cars with this engine is the throttle position sensor. The main signs of a malfunction of this sensor are: loss of power, jerking of the car while driving, unstable operation of the engine at idle. When purchasing, you need to pay attention to these signs. It is important to remember that this problem occurs on many cars.

For a 1.2 liter engine.

In cars with this power unit, the weak point is the timing chain. Its resource in practice is about 100 thousand km, which is correspondingly small for a chain. Depending on the mileage of the car you are buying, you should take this into account and ask the seller whether the chain has been replaced or not. If the car's mileage is around 100 thousand km, then it will probably have to be replaced. And, as you know, replacing a timing chain costs a considerable amount.

For a 1.4 liter engine.

The Skoda Fabia has a 1.4 liter engine. The problem is the ignition coils. It is not uncommon for owners of these cars to turn to car services precisely because the coils fail. The main signs of ignition coil failure are: the check light is on or the car is jerking. When buying a car, in any case, it is necessary to make a test drive for various reasons, including this one, and also pay attention to the absence of errors on the console.

Disadvantages of Skoda Fabia

Long warm-up of the engine and interior in winter;
Rapid fogging of glass at low humidity;
"Crickets" in the cabin;
Poor sound insulation;
Not enough space for rear passengers;
Expensive to maintain and repair.

In conclusion, we can say that the Skoda Fabia differs from its competitors of other brands in some respects of reliability and quality. Some for the better, and some for the worse. It is important to remember that when purchasing a Fabia, you must properly check the operation of the main systems and assemblies, as well as the external condition of the car. If this is not possible, the ideal option would be to have the car diagnosed and checked by car service technicians. It is important to remember that before purchasing, in addition to weak points, it is necessary to check all components and assemblies of the car one hundred percent.

P.S: Dear owners of this model, if you find frequently occurring components, assemblies or individual parts, write about it in the comments below.

Weaknesses and disadvantages of the Skoda Fabia 2 was last modified: March 29, 2018 by Administrator

The Skoda Fabia Combi is a spacious supermini with plenty of useful features as standard and low running costs. But let's take a closer look at all its advantages, so to speak, the pros and cons, or cons.

The 2015 Skoda Fabia station wagon doesn't have many competitors. Apart from the cheap Dacia Logan MCV, its only true rival is the SEAT Ibiza ST - coming from the same part of the bunker at the VW Group. However, the new Fabia estate model is now on sale, and engineers and designers have implemented some clever new technologies to make it even better on the road and even more spacious than before. Now in its third generation, the Fabia Combi is a step above the car it replaces. Of course, it is inevitable that the price of the new generation will increase, but the automaker hopes that in the end all customers will be satisfied with the new Skoda Fabia station wagon.

So, to analyze practicality, positive and negative aspects, we chose the Skoda Fabia combi model with a 1.2 TSI engine capable of developing 90 horsepower and labeled SE. The maximum score is 5 points. Let's get started.

Design - 3.4 points

The first advantage is the modern design and appearance of the Skoda Fabia Combi in a new look. In front we see already familiar features from the entire Skoda family of cars. The extended body compared to the hatchback version adds more space in the cabin and also increases the luggage compartment, thereby increasing the practicality of the station wagon compared to the short version.

Looking inside, we see a new dashboard. And although it is not as outstanding as, for example, the Volkswagen Polo, it is definitely more practical than its predecessor and is excellent competition in the supermini sector. It's much more modern than the SEAT Ibiza ST and can be said to be light years ahead of the Dacia Logan MCV, although the higher price means you'll pay for the privilege. The dials are easy to read and, thanks to its VW Group roots, the infotainment system is easy to operate.

All models received a decent "catch" of standard equipment. Even the basic ones have electric front windows, tire pressure monitoring and a DAB radio with Bluetooth connectivity. Well, if you take more expensive versions and configurations, you will get 15-inch alloy wheels, a three-spoke leather steering wheel and an on-board system with support for the MirrorLink function. If you splurge on the TOP version of the Fabia Combi, you will also get LED daytime running lights, climate control and an engine start-stop system without an ignition key.

What is the downside and why did this beauty not receive the maximum score for its design? The main drawback in terms of design is the low quality of interior finishing materials. This is not the best plastic and not the best materials for upholstery of seats and door panels. But there is an answer to this - the price of Skoda models. If a manufacturer starts making leather interiors and soft plastic trim, the cost of its cars will increase sharply and their popularity will immediately decrease.

Driving - 3.6 points

Although VW and Skoda bosses say the new Fabia's platform is 44 percent MQB, that's actually slightly off and the Fabia rides on a heavily revised platform from the old model. This is a small minus, which immediately turns into clear advantages - the designers were able to make the car lower and wider than before, and the wheelbase became longer, thereby increasing the interior space in this model. You can read more about the dimensions and technical characteristics of the new Skoda Fabia station wagon in the article published before this one and the link to which is below.

As a result, this had a good effect on movement, which is undoubtedly one of the advantages of the Combi version of the updated Skoda Fabia. It has become sharper, lighter and more flexible. Despite the increase in trunk by 200 liters compared to the hatchback, which resulted from the lengthening of the body, there is practically no difference in behavior on the road between them. On the highway, the station wagon creates a little more resistance to the headwind, due to aerodynamics different from the hatchback, as a result we get slightly higher fuel consumption and slightly increased CO2 emissions into the atmosphere with the same power plants.

While the sporty Fabia is a thing of the past and never came in estate form, in its third generation it still has plenty of power available if you decide to put your foot on the accelerator, especially if there's a turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet. Body roll is well controlled by the suspension. Like many other VW models, the Fabia station wagon is equipped with well-weighted steering - a definite plus.

The main disadvantage in this rating category is the noise from the suspension when driving on cobblestones or rough roads. This creates some noise and discomfort in the cabin. Also, due to the increase in rear overhang, the car fidgets a little with its rear over bumps, which some competitors immediately turn into a plus for themselves.

Reliability and safety - 4.3 points

In terms of safety, all models get six airbags, front seat belt reminder, stability control and low-speed collision avoidance systems. You can see a more detailed report on this in the crash test of the new Skoda Fabia 2015 model year. She is the only new product in her class to receive the maximum rating of five stars.

In expensive trim levels, a driver fatigue monitoring sensor is also installed. But such functions as blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control, unfortunately, are not yet available, this can be considered a disadvantage, but it is difficult to do, since as a result of their installation the price of the car will increase, which will also become an even bigger disadvantage.

Practicality - 4.5 points

If the Skoda Fabia hatchback is not practical enough for you, then the Fabia station wagon will be able to fully satisfy all your needs and this is probably the most important advantage of this car. This is easy to notice when you look inside both. The new Fabia estate boasts a more spacious interior than the hatchback and even a larger boot than before.

Behind the rear seats you'll find a whopping 530 liters of boot space, which is not only huge for a supermini, but almost the same as in the big Ford Mondeo, which costs not one, but two classes above the Fabia. Fold down the rear seatbacks to create a flat surface for carrying large cargo.

There are so-called “smart solutions” in the form of nets and pockets for storing various types of cargo throughout the cabin. The side door panels are not very large, but they have room for a water bottle and enough space for other things that can be stowed there so as not to be scattered throughout the cabin. You'll find two cup holders in front of the parking brake, as well as convenient hidden drawers under the front seats. All this refers to the advantages of the car.

Operating costs – 4 points

In the technical description you can find all the options for power plants that are equipped with the new Fabia station wagon, as well as their specifications (acceleration, fuel consumption, etc.). In practice they are slightly different, but not much. Therefore, the station wagon turned out to be quite economical and with low operating costs - a definite plus.

Gasoline engines will be “more voracious” than diesel engines, and when the Fabia Greenline version with a diesel unit appears, then it will be possible to say that this car is very cost-effective for those people who drive leisurely and care about the environment.

The disdainful attitude towards compact B class hatchbacks in Russia has only one exception. Skoda Fabia broke all popularity records, was desirable and popular. Only the release of the Solaris and Sandero hatchbacks and the localization of the co-platform Rapid with the change of model generations put an end to this success story.

We loved the car for its practicality, exciting handling and low operating cost. However, there were plenty of complaints about reliability. In particular, in Europe the car received surprisingly low positions in reliability ratings. However, this did not hinder the success, because the car turned out to be very successful - Simply Clever as it is. There are excellent ergonomics in a surprisingly large interior and good trunk volume. The car also drove well - the handling was truly exemplary, just like its “relative” VW Polo, with which it shared the platform.

The set of power units corresponded to discerning European tastes: engines from naturally aspirated 1.2 to 1.4 with double supercharging with a power of 180 hp. s., in addition, options were offered with DSG gearboxes and with a conventional six-speed automatic transmission.

A little bit of history

A new model on the “all-Volkswagen” PQ 24 platform was announced in March 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show. Contrary to popular belief, at first it was considered only a development of the Roomster, which was released a little earlier, and did not create much of a sensation, because the design of the front part and the interior are completely the same. Buyers “tested” the car a little later.

In Russia, the attitude towards Fabia was good from the very beginning - the company’s pricing policy in those years was still very interesting. As a result, “Audi for the poor” were in much higher demand than the “original” VW Polo, the price of which was very close to the prices of the Octavia Tour of those times. The choice of engines was initially limited to three-cylinder 1.2 and four-cylinder 1.4 and 1.6 engines. And among diesel engines, only 1.4TDI and 1.9TDI with pump injectors were offered.

But the success of the sports program generated demand for “charged” versions of the car, which appeared after the 2010 restyling. The cars were distinguished not only by the correction of minor defects, but also by a significantly expanded range of engines, which included the 1.2TSI and 1.4TSI engines, long known from other models of the concern. The range of diesel engines was supplemented with a compact and powerful 1.6 TDI, and the 1.4 diesel was replaced with a more powerful three-cylinder 1.2 engine, all with a CommonRail injection system and particulate filters. However, diesel cars were not officially sold here.

Russian sales accounted for a small share of the world's 1.2 million cars sold, but nevertheless the car turned out to be in great demand. And for our country, the company was preparing a replacement in the form of the Skoda Rapid model, which, due to deeper localization, turned out to be cheaper, and already plays in the B++ class - the market leader in sales. By the way, the Rapid’s platform is still the same as that of the Fabia Mk 2, only after the last restyling the EA 211 power units from the MQB platform appeared.

The steering is ideal if there is a version without power assistance, but such cars are practically never found. Most cars have an electric power steering system - a combination of a conventional hydraulic rack and an electric pump. The seal material and the not-so-successful oil fail; after five or six years and a mileage of 90-100 thousand kilometers it becomes heavily contaminated and the pump begins to howl. According to the regulations, replacement is not required, but it is better to do this immediately, since the oil is on sale, but any “Pentosin-compatible” liquid will do. When replacing by displacement, only a liter will be required, and there is a good chance that the electric pump will continue to live for a long time. If you persistently listen to the howling, the pump will periodically turn off and eventually die completely. Judging by practice, it cannot be restored - you will need at least 25 thousand rubles for replacement. In addition, “for company”, most likely, the rack will also fail - wear products from the pump will get into the seals.

The electric booster appeared on restyled cars, but is relatively rare and has not been seen in any particular trouble. It is probably worth paying attention to the wiring, as with other similar devices.

Transmission

Most Fabias have manual transmissions and in terms of reliability they are very good. After all, the mechanics on them are quite good, except that with engines 1.2 TSI and 1.6 gearboxes they reach their strength threshold. But with 1.4 there are no more problems.

The 1.4 engines have the best piston group possible for Fabia. The 1.6 has shorter T-shaped pistons and there are all the problems familiar to Polo Seadan owners with CFNA series engines - slight scuffing of cylinders and pistons, rapid wear of valves, and even the chain is noisy and sometimes jumps, especially on versions with the old front engine cover and old type of chain and tensioners.

The main problems with engines are the thermostat, poor quality of gaskets and seals, very slow warming up and difficulties with choosing oil. For short runs, oils with a viscosity of SAE 30 are highly recommended, but if the car sits a lot in traffic jams, then it is better to pour SAE 40 or even SAE 50 - very narrow crankshaft journals and low operating oil pressure make it sensitive to viscosity loss. In addition, the radiators are rather weak and get dirty easily.

Also, the regulations for replacing spark plugs provoke the failure of individual ignition coils, which is a consumable item. The engine management system on the 1.4 Magneti Marelli 4HV can be a bit of a hassle and can be difficult to diagnose. The engines are very sensitive to contamination of the throttle valve and fuel pump pressure - a power system without a return line is used. The fuel pump, by the way, is frankly rather weak; it is often replaced with Bosch from VAZ models, and it seems that this is a good replacement for the original.

Under the hood of the Škoda Fabia GreenLine UK-spec (5J) "2009–10

The design of three-cylinder 1.2 engines, which are the leaders in popularity, is much less successful. The timing chain here is almost the same as on 1.6 engines, but it is more heavily loaded due to the presence of a balancer shaft drive. Its resource is consistently less than 100 thousand kilometers, which usually becomes a very big surprise for the owners. In addition, the motor is all-aluminum, with nickasil-coated sleeves. It uses durable Nikasil, and not Alusil, like other manufacturers, but there are problems with it, especially if the piston rings are destroyed, which, unfortunately, happens.

However, in most cases, oil appetite is caused by the presence of rings and their severe wear. The designers' selection of materials for the rings was not very successful, and the pistons simply rub off on the hard coating of the cylinder. For some reason, most owners of VW and Skoda cars believe that engine oil consumption is normal, and car service employees agree with them. But if you persistently add oil, the engine will wear off, and then the crankshaft will “spin” and the engine will go to the trash heap. Surprisingly, just in case, the manufacturer even produces repair sizes for pistons, although few people undertake to sharpen Nikasil, and the price for repair sizes is steep - during overhauls they often install sleeves from VAZ.

The operating temperature of the 1.2 engine is also high, but it only warms up to it in traffic jams - the thermostat also fails. The problems with the throttle are almost the same as on engines 1.4 and 1.6, but the engine control system here tolerates light contamination more easily. By the way, vibration on a three-cylinder engine is often not “doubling”, but signs of the end of the timing belt - due to impacts in it, the key on the balancer shaft is cut off. With oil, the features are the same as those of the older “brothers”, and even the load on the liners is higher; in general, you need to monitor the oil quality and pressure. At the slightest sign of lack of pressure, measure and look for the cause.

3 / 3

The appetite for oil on the 1.2 engine is weak, difficulties with the liners are rare, but on the other hand there are additional troubles associated with the supercharging system - short fuel injection pump life, sensitivity to fuel quality, contamination of injectors, turbine breakdowns (especially on cars produced before 2013) and failures of the air intercooling system. But the traction is excellent, and the engine is very economical. The 1.4 engine has a much more complex supercharging system and is prone to piston burnouts, but this is unlikely to stop someone who wants a Fabia RS.

What to take?

The simple design and fairly high quality of workmanship make the Skoda Fabia Mk 2 a very good choice as an “every day” car. Quite pleasant to drive, it will not cause much trouble if the configuration is simple and the mileage is not cosmic. This is especially true for 1.4 engines, which can clearly be considered the best option.

In the photo: Škoda Fabia RS (5J) "2010–13

The more powerful 1.6 engine is a little more troublesome due to the unsuccessful timing chain assembly, but with careful operation it will please both the second and third owner. But cars with very common 1.2 engines can cause a lot of trouble. They have enough power for a leisurely ride, but the problem is with the resource. And often you can’t get away with a cheap rebuild; they are simply neglected to such a state that it’s easier to buy a new one. With an oil appetite of half a liter per thousand kilometers, owners often miss the oil level - thanks to the small crankcase volume. Many drivers, instead of a full repair, change the piston rings and sell the car, but such repairs will not last long if the Nikasil already has risks and abrasions. And if you like this particular option, then be very vigilant.

If you have your eye on fresh and expensive cars with a 1.2 TSI engine, for example, in the fashionable Monte Carlo configuration, then just remember that the turbo engine does not forgive maintenance errors, and the seven-speed DSG simply attracts problems, so try to find a copy with minimal mileage and a well-known “biography”.

Minor electrical failures will irritate those who do not know how to deal with problems on their own, because in most cases the owners will be girls. But in essence, this is not a big deal, because large expenses can be easily avoided if you have a competent professional. If you know about the operating features of the electric power steering system, the tendency to damage the door wiring, the weakness of the fuel pump, thermostat and the characteristics of the engines, then the cost of operation will be low. And if you also carefully monitor the body and eliminate pockets of corrosion in a timely manner, without relying on stories about the mythical double galvanization, then the car will last a very long time.

Would you buy a Skoda Fabia?

The confrontation between European and Asian cars is more relevant than ever. So today, we will compare the Skoda Fabia and the Hyundai Getz. Both models have proven themselves well on the world market, but the question remains: which is better - Fabia or Goetz?

Fabia is a popular small car, the name of which comes from the English word “fabulous”, which literally means “amazing, amazing”. The model was first presented to the public in 1999, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In the spring of 2007, at an event in Geneva, the Fabia 2 debuted, which retained the same modular platform, but was noticeably larger.

In the fall of 2014, the third generation Fabia was presented in Paris. Interestingly, the new product was recognized as the best car in terms of passive safety in the segment. Also, in 2007, the model was recognized as the best compact car on the world market.

Another subcompact Hyundai Getz first appeared on the market in 2002. Interestingly, depending on the country in which the model is implemented, it is called differently. For example, Hyundai Click - in Korea, Hyundai TB - in Japan and Dodge Breeze - in Venezuela. In 2005, the car underwent restyling, as a result of which its name also changed, now sounding - Goetz 2.

In 2011, production of the model was stopped, and Solaris became its direct replacement in the domestic market. Interestingly, in 2005 the car was recognized as the best in Russia.

Since Goetz is no longer produced, and Fabia continues to remain on Olympus of the automotive world, at this point we will give preference to the Czech car.

Appearance

Externally, both cars are united by the fact that they have an unusual exterior. For example, in the appearance of the Skoda Fabia one can see cuteness and neatness. Experts have repeatedly noted that this is the only Skoda car whose appearance cannot be called respectable and representative.

The Hyundai Getz does not look very convincing in appearance, and it certainly cannot be called the most stylish model of the Korean company. In the appearance of the car there is compactness and practicality, under which are hidden small notes of progressiveness.

Taking into account all of the above, we will award this local confrontation a draw.

Salon

Honestly, from the point of view of manufacturability, comparing car interiors is pointless, since the Czech model in this regard is two heads taller than its opponent. If in the interior of the Goetz you can observe the rigor and laconism inherent in most Asian cars, then in the interior of the Fabia you can notice European sophistication, with a thoughtful arrangement of each element and optimal ergonomics.

It is worth noting that the Fabia’s dashboard has a huge color screen, while the Korean developers decided to make do with a small display. This, of course, does not show the overall picture, but it gives an approximate idea of how much more technologically advanced the Fabia’s interior is than the Goetz’s.

Plus, there is much more space inside a Czech car. This can be understood even by the trunk capacity – 300 liters versus 254, in favor of the Fabius. The situation is the same with the quality of finishing work - the clear favorite here is the Skoda Fabia.

Since the Fabia's interior is better than its counterpart in almost all aspects of the interior, it is the Czech car that wins on this point.

Specifications

For the most objective comparison, we chose two versions of cars, the role of engines in which is performed by 1.4-liter gasoline units. It is worth immediately noting that both Goetz and Fabia are built on a front-wheel drive car.

As for the engines themselves, Goetz’s engine produces 97 horsepower, while Fabius’s produces only 86 horsepower. Considering this, it is surprising that the acceleration time from zero to hundreds is better for Fabius - 12.3 s, versus 13.9 s for the opponent. This is most likely due to the fact that the Czech car has a higher maximum rpm. – 3300, against 3200 for his today’s counterpart. However, in the combined cycle, both cars have the same - 6.5 liters per hundred.

Interestingly, the Fabia is superior to Goetz in all dimensions. The body of the Czech car is 175 mm longer and 8 mm higher. The Fabius also has a longer wheelbase - 2465 mm versus 2455 mm, and a ground clearance that is 14 mm higher than that of the Goetz. However, the Korean car is 20 kg lighter than its current competitor.

Price

In those years when Goetz was still being produced, it could be purchased for an average of 465,000 rubles. In turn, it will cost about 80,000 rubles more. Interestingly, on the secondary market the cost of cars is almost the same.

The third generation of Škoda Fabia, which was released not so long ago, has already managed to acquire its true fans among domestic motorists. Their opinion will come in very handy for anyone who has not yet decided on the choice of vehicle.

Before…

Before you read reviews from real owners of the new Skoda Fabia, you need to know that the manufacturer offers four trim levels:

  • Active – two Airbag airbags, electronic stability control, EMU steering, heated rear window, radio preparation, central locking, front electric windows;
  • Ambition – MFA display, parking brake button, electric windows on all windows, fog lights, radio;
  • Style – H7 headlights with LED Day Light, small leather package, Easy Light Assistant automatic headlight switching system, start/stop button, side Airbags, media system;
  • Monte Carlo – Supersport steering wheel, Aludesign pedals, panoramic roof, alloy wheels.

The Fabia Combi model with a trunk of 505 liters stands out separately with a number of practical solutions. The range of power units of this car includes three gasoline engines:

  • three-cylinder Multi Point Injection 1.2 l/69 hp;
  • four-cylinder Multi Point Injection 1.4 l/86 hp;
  • four-cylinder Multi Point Injection 1.6 l / 105 hp

Only cars equipped with a 1.6-liter engine are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission; all other models have a five-speed manual transmission.

It must also be said that the reputation of the new Fabia and reviews of owners about it are closely interconnected with the presence of special packages that the future owner of any model can choose, there are only four of them:

  • City – air conditioning, mechanical height adjustment of the driver’s seat.
  • City+ – air conditioning, heated front seats, mechanically adjustable driver's seat.
  • 5+ – Maxi-Dot display, H7 + LED headlights, leather package, heated front seats, EasyStart, steering wheel with control unit.
  • Style+ – Climatronic, Maxi-Dot display, Swing radio, Bluetooth, phone control on the display.

What are the owners' reviews about the interior of the Skoda Fabia of the new model?

Most small cars are only suitable for carrying passengers, while the Škoda Fabia has the opportunity to provide a completely new concept of size. First of all, this can be seen in the cabin, which can comfortably accommodate four people thanks to the new seat design. The size of the luggage compartment corresponds to this category of cars and is 330 liters, which is 15 liters more than the previous model. If you fold the rear seats, the trunk capacity increases to 1150 liters.

Regarding the interior, there is this opinion:

“Mine is a basic model, without a variety of functions, but the price is more than satisfactory. The interior decoration, although simple, is of good quality. The dashboard with a three-spoke steering wheel looks organic and modern. I’d like to say separately about the front seats, the side restraints secure the body well, but somehow there is not enough lumbar support - I had to sew a special pillow.”

The Skoda Fabia dashboard, as well as safety elements, were not left without feedback from owners - this is the first thing experienced drivers pay attention to:

“Before this model, there was also a Seat Ibiza hatchback, I can say that the Škoda instrument panel is much more practical and modern. The classic shape does not distract at all while driving, the scale is clearly visible at any time of the day. Additional indicators for fuel level and temperature in the cooling system are combined in pairs with a tachometer and speedometer - very convenient. My equipment includes 6 airbags and Isofix mount.”

Assessment of the dynamic component of the Škoda Fabia

The motors of this manufacturer are perhaps its strongest side. Distinctive features of these units are instant response to pressing the accelerator, low fuel consumption and optimal torque. Unfortunately, cars with diesel engines will not be supplied to Russia yet.

However, there is something to choose from among gasoline units:

  • three-cylinder MPI 1 l/60 hp;
  • three-cylinder MPI 1 l/75 hp;
  • four-cylinder MPI 1.2 l/110 hp;
  • four-cylinder TSI 1.2 l/90 hp;
  • four-cylinder TSI 1.2 l/110 hp

The last turbocharged engine on the list can be equipped with a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG gearbox with a double-disc clutch. Although liter engines stand out for their efficiency, they somehow do not inspire fast driving:

“Studying the reviews of Skoda Fabia car owners, I learned not only about the efficiency of the “liter” engine, but also about the minimum costs of its maintenance. The car is no different in agility, but it was bought for trips around the city, which justified itself - gasoline consumption is 6.5 liters per “hundred”. On a suburban highway it shows generally less than the declared values - only 4.0-4.1 liters.”

Those who need a faster car will most likely choose a 1.2 liter unit with a turbine. Moreover, there are two of them - one produces torque up to 160 Nm, the second - 175 Nm. Average fuel consumption is slightly higher, but the dynamics are much higher, as confirmed by the owners:

“I already had experience with a second-generation Fabia with a 1-liter three-cylinder engine; if the car is well loaded, then there is absolutely not enough resource. Therefore, I bought a new one with a 1.2 liter unit and a turbine. It's a completely different matter! At speeds up to 2000 it calmly goes uphill, even with passengers. Outside the city I like to “step on slippers” and drive 140-150 km/h, naturally, the consumption reaches 8 liters per 100 km.”

Conclusion

Czech cars are traditionally popular among Russian car enthusiasts and the new model is no exception. Among competing models, the Škoda Fabia stands out for its lack of pathos in design, beautiful shapes and innovative ideas in the engine part. About 12 paint colors and a wide selection of motors allow you to make the most suitable choice.
