History of Jeep Cherokee / Jeep Cherokee

In 1974, the Jeep SJ model was built on the basis of the Wagoneer. Its 3-inch shortened, 2-door version was called the Cherokee. The car had a Quadra-Trac transfer case (the first fully automatic full-time four-wheel drive system). The line of power units consisted of two 4.2 liter engines. and V8 with a volume of 5.2 liters. The Jeep Cherokee/SJ was produced from 1974 to 1983. In total, about 376 thousand pieces were produced.

For the 1984 model year, American Motors Corp. (AMC) introduced the second generation of the Jeep Cherokee SUV under the XJ symbol. In 1986, Chrysler buys AMC.

Cherokee XJ received a frameless body on an all-wheel drive chassis. It is noteworthy that at that time, the Cherokee was the only car in the compact class that had four doors and two all-wheel drive systems - CommandTrac and SelectTrac. Although rear-wheel drive models are often found in the USA, which Americans like to use as tractors for various trailers, these cars cannot boast of good cross-country ability. The front suspension is spring, the rear is spring. It was offered in 3-door and 5-door versions. Moreover, five-door luxury jeeps of the new generation were sold under the name Wagoneer. They were distinguished by four small headlights built on top of each other, as well as wood-effect side trims.

Two gasoline engines were installed as the main driving force: a 4-cylinder 2.5 liter. (128 hp) and 6-cylinder with a volume of 4.0 liters. (193 hp). An economical Renault turbodiesel (21 DT) with a volume of 2.1 liters was also installed. (80 hp), in 1991 it was replaced by a more powerful Italian VM turbodiesel with a volume of 2.5 liters (116 hp). Gasoline engines were combined with a 5-speed manual, or 3 or 4-speed automatic transmission; with diesel engines, an exclusively manual gearbox was installed.

Cherokee is gluttonous. Average gasoline consumption for the 4-liter six-cylinder engine in the version offered from 1988 to 1991 is 14 l/100 km. In all-wheel drive mode, this figure can increase to 20 l/100 km, even with moderate driving style. The 21 DT turbodiesel seems to be more economical, with an average consumption of 10 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km, but in normal operation, fuel consumption also increases to 14-17 liters. The reason for this, along with the Cherokee's 1,580-kilogram curb weight, is an angular body with poor aerodynamics.

The interior of the Cherokee is designed in a typically American way: a lot of chrome, not always logical placement of switches and levers, a high transmission tunnel in the middle of the cabin. The driver's seat is quite comfortable and has several adjustments. The back seat is also quite spacious - you can ride with three people. The Jeep Cherokee Limited (Country) modification has a rich set of equipment.

On March 22, 1990, the millionth XJ SUV was released - a bright red Cherokee Limited. Over the seven years of production, the Cherokee not only became the epitome of an exemplary off-road vehicle, but also the most popular model of Chrysler Corporation in Europe.

At the beginning of 1997, the front part was restyled and the radiator grille was changed: its design became different, with large vertical slits. New bumpers and taillights were installed, and the list of trim levels and options was significantly expanded.

In the 1998 model year, the radiator grille was changed again (instead of a 10-slot it became 7-slot).

The car was offered in three trim levels: the basic Mounty, the improved Sport and the prestigious Limited with leather seats and six-way electric adjustments. Standard equipment includes power steering, ABS, electric windows, alloy wheels.

In 2001, at the Detroit auto show, the third generation of the Jeep Cherokee SUV under the KJ symbol was presented, which replaced the outdated Jeep Cherokee XJ. However, this name was retained only for the European market, and in the USA the model is called Jeep Liberty.

There are two basic trim levels - Sport and Limited. The Sport version is easily recognizable in appearance: the car has unpainted bumpers and wheel arch trims, as well as a shiny “Cherokee Sport” badge on the front doors. The Limited features body-colored exterior panels, leather, brushed aluminum interiors, and a host of comfort-enhancing features.

In addition to its unusual appearance, the Jeep Cherokee KJ has a very rigid body. The car does not have a frame in the usual sense - instead, engineers created a powerful frame made of high-strength steel with developed side members along the entire bottom, thanks to which the supporting body is as strong as the frame structure. In addition, a new chassis with independent front suspension was developed for the new SUV, which makes the car very comfortable on public roads, and at the same time maintains its excellent off-road qualities.

The Cherokee has tremendous suspension endurance potential. The lower arms are cast from ductile iron and the upper arms are forged steel. All this, together with the anti-roll bar and rack-and-pinion steering mechanism, is covered from below by a powerful steel subframe half a finger thick.

While retaining the traditional seven slots in the radiator lining and round headlights, the designers noticeably smoothed out the chopped contours of the body. The characteristic roof line, the external location of the spare wheel, and wide wheel arches give this SUV a muscular, dynamic and all-conquering appearance. Visually, the new Cherokee appears shorter than the old one. But this is an optical illusion - in fact it is 25 cm longer. The optical illusion is a consequence of the fact that the new car is also 24 cm taller.

The increased angle of the windshield and the aggressive-looking radiator grille emphasize the solid appearance of the car. Four halogen headlights brightly illuminate the path ahead, minimizing the glare of oncoming drivers.

The interior of the Jeep Cherokee KJ is thought out to the smallest detail and harmonizes perfectly with the exterior design of the car. The salon combines modern design and individual elements in a retro style. The quality of finish has improved noticeably. The entire interior is made in a combination of rounded shapes and the color scheme of black and white. The instrument panel is designed concisely and without frills. Round white scales, at the head are a large speedometer and tachometer, on the sides of them are temperature and fuel level indicators. The center console and tunnel have silver inserts that look like polished aluminum. Round air conditioner cutouts, rounded handles on embossed doors with deep thoughtful pockets and places for glasses - all this adds a unique “aesthetic-practical” comfort to the Cherokee interior. Fluorescent lighting of the instrument panel and audio system display create an additional feeling of comfort.

The path to the driver's seat is opened by a wide door, and a handle located on the front pillar will help you overcome the high threshold. The seat has electrical adjustments (except for the backrest angle), which allow you to quickly find a comfortable position. The Cherokee's rear seat can be folded with one hand in a 65/35 split. Loops and hooks located in the cargo compartment will help securely secure the transported cargo. The steering wheel has a wide range of adjustments and a well-chosen diameter.

The Jeep Cherokee KJ is equipped with several engines, the most powerful of which is a 3.7-liter V6 engine producing 210 horsepower, which comes only with a four-speed automatic transmission. Next up is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 154 hp. In addition, a 2.5-liter turbodiesel with 140 hp is also available.

For those looking for a true off-road capable vehicle, the Up Country Suspension package includes underbody skid plates, a trailer hitch, high-clearance suspension, and automatic body leveling when towing heavy loads.

As before, the Jeep Cherokee offers two all-wheel drive systems. Standard Command-Track with front axle disengagement ensures excellent traction in all conditions, whether on snowy trails or off-road. But it should be remembered that the Cherokee with the Command-Track system is an exclusively rear-wheel drive vehicle, the front wheels of which can only be connected to off-road driving. The Selec-Trac full-time all-wheel drive system provides additional driver convenience. At the same time, the system ensures high fuel efficiency and reliable transmission operation in any road conditions.

The highlight of both systems is the ability to switch transmission modes while the vehicle is moving. In particular, this allows you to engage all-wheel drive on the go; moreover, there is no need to reduce the speed.

Jeep Cherokee is equipped with a number of devices that allow the driver to feel even more confident in difficult road conditions, especially when driving on slippery and uneven roads. These primarily include an anti-lock braking system (ABS), a Trac-Lok limited-slip differential on the rear axle, and a torque control system transmitted to the vehicle's wheels. These and other systems give the Jeep Cherokee phenomenal ride quality that allows the driver to fully enjoy off-road driving.

For the 2005 model year, the Cherokee was restyled. The changes affected the shape of the bumpers and the radiator grille, which now has built-in fog lights, located in the updated version immediately below the headlights. In addition, for a number of modifications of this car, the radiator grille became chrome-plated.

Jeep Cherokee is loved for its discreet, distinctly strict appearance, outstanding off-road performance, reliability and versatility. The combination of endurance, durability, safety and excellent driving properties allows Cherokee owners to move in any conditions, feeling confident and comfortable.

The world-famous Grand Cherokee SUV of the 2014 model year debuted at the beginning of 2013 in Detroit, and Chrysler presented a more compact Jeep Cherokee with a radically changed design in the spring at an exhibition in New York.

The new exterior can be called controversial, but at the same time quite original and modern. American designers (not without the participation of the Italian studio) dared to change the traditional and classic appearance inherent in the previous generation of the model.

It is noteworthy that the 2013-2014 Cherokee is available in four versions. The first three - Sport, Latitude and Limited look like crossovers and differ from each other only in small external decorative details, but the Cherokee Trailhawk is a real off-road conqueror with off-road tires, compact front and rear bumpers made of black plastic, protection for the engine compartment and all-wheel drive elements transmission with metal sheets, two towing loops at the front and one at the rear, painted in bright red, and ground clearance increased to 220 mm (other versions have 195 mm ground clearance). The Cherokee Trailhawk body also has geometric cross-country ability worthy of an SUV: 29.8 degrees - approach angle, 23.3 degrees - ramp angle, 32.1 degrees - departure angle, fording depth available for crossing at speeds up to 8 km/h is 510 mm.

The 2014 Cherokee is built on the Fiat platform, which is already used for the Dodge Dart sedan and Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback. The front suspension of the SUV is MacPherson strut, the rear is independent multi-link. The maximum suspension travel at the front is 17 centimeters and at the rear – 18 centimeters. The external overall dimensions of the body are: 4625 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, 1680 mm in height, with a 2700 mm wheelbase.

On the hood with smooth relief lines there are seven vertically located ovals of the radiator grille with a chrome edging, and the lower grille located in the bumper opposite is stretched horizontally between the fog lights built into the bumper, and is also accented with chrome. The front bumper itself is protected at the bottom by unpainted plastic. Stylish narrow headlights with LED strips and built-in turn indicators find shelter in the wings. Another pair of more noticeable “eyes” is lower, directly above the bumper. The image is complemented by large spotlights for the fog lights.

The side of the body is characterized by square-shaped wheel arches designed to accommodate 215/60 R17 tires or 215/55 R18 tires on 17-inch steel or 17-18-inch radius alloy wheels, a curved and high window sill line, smooth sidewall surfaces and a sloping roof line. Along the entire perimeter, including arches and sills, the body is equipped with protective plastic, hinting at good off-road capabilities, and on the roof, in addition to roof rails, it is possible to install a panoramic sunroof that fills the interior with natural light. The compact stern received a huge bumper with integrated trapezoid muffler tips, a compact tailgate topped with a spoiler, and narrow side lamps with LED filling.

It is also worth noting that the new body is characterized by a low coefficient of drag to air flow, which has a beneficial effect not only on fuel efficiency, but also on the vehicle’s handling.

The interior of the new 2014 Jeep Cherokee matches its appearance, and compared to the interior of the previous generation model, it has been transformed beyond recognition. The quality of the materials used (soft plastics, fabric or leather), according to Jeep representatives, is premium. The buyer has a choice of five different color themes for the interior design.

Depending on the configuration, the SUV's dashboard can be equipped with either a 3.5-inch TFT display or a seven-inch color screen. They can display navigation system data, fuel consumption indicators, or information about the song being played by the audio system. The center console of the initial versions of the Cherokee 2014 is equipped with a 5-inch color touch screen, and in more expensive versions there is an 8.4-inch touch monitor. It is used to control the Uconnect Access multimedia complex.

The steering wheel, with the help of integrated buttons, will allow the driver to control many functions without being distracted from the road, and the instruments are represented by a pair of large round dials of the tachometer and speedometer, with an electronic display built between them, informing the driver about the operating modes of the car.

New driver and front passenger seats with bright lateral support. As an option, it is possible to order electric adjustments, heated and ventilated front seats. For three passengers in the second row, there is plenty of room in all directions; the rear row can move along the cabin, thus increasing legroom for passengers or the size of the trunk. The split backrest changes the angle of inclination. The rear seats fold down to create a flat cargo area.

The engine range of the model includes two gasoline engines. For the basic version, a 186-horsepower Fiat four-cylinder 2.4 engine of the Tigershark MultiAir 2 family is offered. The top modification will receive a 3.2-liter V-shaped six Pentastar, which develops 271 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. A new 9-speed automatic transmission works in tandem with the engines.

Three options for the all-wheel drive system have been prepared for the 2014 Cherokee. The first - Active Drive I - automatically engages the rear axle when necessary, leaving the car front-wheel drive in normal driving modes.

The Active Drive II system has a 4-Low mode for low-speed off-road driving and trailer towing. When activated, the center differential is blocked, the role of which is played by a multi-plate clutch. The ground clearance in this version is 2.5 centimeters higher.

The Drive Lock system is designed for particularly difficult road conditions, based on Drive II, but with locking not only the center differential, but also the rear differential.

As options for comfort and safety, there is a huge list of systems: an advanced multimedia system with 9 speakers, navigation, rear view camera, parallel and perpendicular parking assistant, front and rear parking sensors, systems monitoring blind spots, lane markings, adaptive cruise. control capable of braking and completely stopping the car, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and push-button engine start, panoramic roof and other features.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is an American-designed five-door SUV produced in the United States and Europe. So, the first generation car was initially assembled in America, and then a conveyor belt opened in Austria. The very first Grand Cherokee was produced in 1992. Its engine range consisted of an Italian 2.5 liter diesel engine (114 hp), a 4.0 liter V6 petrol engine (170-184 hp), as well as the flagship V8 Magnum 5.2 liter engine (185-223 hp). . With.). Moreover, in the period 1997-1998, a Grand Cherokee with a 5.9-liter internal combustion engine producing 245 hp was produced in small quantities. With.

The car was delivered to the USA with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

In 1999, the start of sales of the second generation of the popular American SUV was announced. The car became larger and more luxurious, and received an automatic transmission as standard. The engine range consisted of high-performance Chrysler engines. We are talking about a six-cylinder internal combustion engine with a capacity of 195 hp. s., as well as a 4.7-liter V8 engine with a power of 235-265 hp. With. Diesel modifications with a volume of 2.7 liters (163 hp) and 3.1 liters (138 hp) were supplied to other countries.

The second generation vehicle officially left the assembly line in 2004, but in 2006 the Chinese decided to resume production at their Beijing Jeep Corporation plant.

From 2005 to 2010, the third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee was on the assembly line. The car was assembled in the USA and Austria. It used components from Mercedes-Benz, including a lot of electronic systems. The SUV began to be positioned as a more prestigious model with very powerful engines. Thus, the basic configuration received a 2014-horsepower unit with a volume of 3.7 liters, and higher-end versions were content with V8 engines of 4.7 (238-303 hp) and 5.7 liters (326 hp). The most economical version is with a three-liter Mercedes-Benz turbodiesel with a capacity of 211 hp. With. The “charged” SRT-8 package received a 6.2-liter Hemi engine with a power of 425 horsepower.

In 2010, sales of the fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee began. The car received a more modern corporate style with smoothed corners, but at the same time remained true to the previous design concept. The SUV is available with 3.0 and 3.6 liter petrol engines, with a capacity of 238 and 286 horsepower, respectively. A “charged” 6.4-liter version with a capacity of 468 hp is also available for sale. With.

The European version of the fifth generation Cherokee was shown in early February 2014, and by mid-spring, Chrysler Group LLC announced Russian prices. Unfortunately, the cost of the new product, taking into account the transformations made, turned out to be much higher than experts expected - so this crossover will not be a “hit of sales.” However, in addition to the price, the new all-terrain vehicle has many disadvantages noted by critics. True, the Cherokee also has many advantages. In general, let's understand everything in order...

The Chrysler Group LLC concern is under the control of the Italian concern FIAT, which, apparently, left its mark on the fifth Cherokee. Not a trace remains of the former brutal contours of the Jeep Cherokee body. The new product has acquired a controversial design in the style of “biodesign”, which at one time FIAT “ate the dog”. Did it do any good? It’s unlikely, especially considering the fact that while at the front there is at least a recognizable radiator grille, the rear is a “pathetic parody of the Korean auto industry.” A car with the “KL” index is no longer a brutal off-road conqueror, but a typical city SUV (visually, although in the version with a single drive – literally) with elegant and light body features that are afraid of being scratched or dented by a sudden obstacle somewhere in the forest .

Now about the dimensions. This car fits neatly into the mid-size crossover category. The length of the body is 4624 mm, the length of the wheelbase is 2692 mm. The width does not exceed 1859 mm in the basic version and 1902 mm in the top version. Height varies from 1681 to 1722 mm and depends on the type of chassis installed. The curb weight of the Russian version of the Cherokee-KL, in the basic configuration, does not exceed 1738 kg.

The new product received a five-seater cabin with a completely new interior. But already during the first tests, problems with the comfort of the front seats were revealed, which clearly lack more pronounced lateral support. Compared to them, the rear seats look simply “highly comfortable,” especially considering the fact that they are equipped with an adjustable backrest and can be moved back and forth.

The ergonomics of the driver's seat are very well organized, which slightly smoothes out the negative effects of an uncomfortable seat: all controls are at hand, easily accessible and do not distract from the road. There were no complaints about the quality of sound insulation of the interior, but the quality of assembly and fitting of interior parts is clearly lame and does not correspond to the price segment. Another important disadvantage is the volume of the glove compartment, which can only really fit gloves.

As for the trunk, it is organized “according to European patterns” - with nets and hooks for luggage, as well as a spare wheel neatly packed under the floor. The basic capacity of the luggage compartment is 412 liters. With the second row of seats folded – 1267 liters.

Specifications. In Russia, the 5th generation Jeep Cherokee will be offered to customers with three engine options, one of which will be a diesel power plant.

  • The base engine will be a gasoline 4-cylinder in-line naturally aspirated unit from the Tigershark MultiAir series, the displacement of which is 2.4 liters (2360 cm³). The engine is located transversely, equipped with a 16-valve timing belt, a Fiat electro-hydraulic variable valve timing system and distributed fuel injection. Its maximum power is stated by the manufacturer at 177 hp, developed at 6000 rpm. In addition, the engine produces 229 Nm of torque at just 3900 rpm. As a gearbox, the Americans will offer a 9-speed hydromechanical “automatic” ZF 9HP, and this, we note, is a unique offer in this class of crossovers. With a junior engine under the hood, the “fifth Cherokee” is capable of hitting the “first hundred” on the speedometer in 10.5 seconds, and also “eating” about 8.3 liters of gasoline in the combined cycle.
  • The top-end gasoline engine on our market will be another naturally aspirated engine belonging to the Pentastar line. It has six V-shaped cylinders with a total displacement of 3.2 liters (3239 cm³). The flagship engine is equipped with distributed fuel injection, a 24-valve DOHC timing belt, made of aluminum alloy, and its maximum output is 272 hp. at 6500 rpm. The peak torque of the top-end engine is 315 Nm and is achieved at 4300 rpm. The same version of the 9-speed automatic transmission is offered as a gearbox, with which the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and consume about 10.0 liters of fuel for every 100 km in the combined cycle.
  • Diesel (which will later be available in Russia) has Italian roots. The 2.0-liter engine from the Multijet II line received four in-line cylinders, direct fuel injection, a start/stop system and a variable geometry turbocharger. The maximum power of the diesel power unit is 170 hp. at 4000 rpm, and the peak torque reaches 350 Nm already at 1750 rpm. Dealers will also not offer a choice of gearbox for a diesel engine, limiting themselves to the same 9-speed automatic, allowing the diesel Cherokee to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds. As for fuel consumption, the 170-horsepower diesel engine is limited to 5.8 liters in the combined cycle.

The machine is built on the Compact U.S. platform. Wide with rigid monocoque body. “Basically,” this new product is a classic mid-size crossover with front-wheel drive, independent suspension with MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link suspension system at the rear, as well as disc brakes on all wheels (while only the front wheels have ventilated discs).
In more expensive versions, the buyer will be offered a choice of two all-wheel drive system options: the “crossover” Active Drive I, which engages the rear wheels automatically when the front wheels slip, or Active Drive II, equipped with a low gear with a gear ratio of 2.92 and a locking center differential based on a multi-disc couplings.
In the top version, this car receives a full-fledged Active Drive Lock off-road transmission, which, in addition to the Active Drive II equipment, provides a rear differential lock and also adds several centimeters of ground clearance.

As for driving performance, during tests this all-terrain vehicle demonstrated excellent handling on any road surface (thanks to the front suspension from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta), excellent geometric cross-country ability and easily overcame a 35° incline. However, it is worth noting that all this is relevant for the “top-end Cherokee” - with a full-fledged all-wheel drive transmission. The front-wheel drive “KL” is a typical city crossover, which is not at all recommended to drive off the asphalt.

Options and prices. In Russia, the Cherokee KL is offered in four equipment options: “Sport”, “Longitude”, “Trailhawk” and “Limited”. In the list of basic equipment, the manufacturer included 17-inch alloy wheels, ABS, EBD, stabilization system, 7 airbags, a basic multimedia system with a 5-inch touch screen, fabric interior, electromechanical power steering, air conditioning and full power accessories.
The price for Cherokee in 2015 starts at 2,049,000 rubles. The most affordable version with all-wheel drive will cost at least 2,149,000 rubles. The cost of the maximum configuration “Limited” with a 3.2-liter engine will be 2,890,000 rubles. Well, the diesel version “Limited” (in Russia since April 2015) is offered at a price of 2,899,000 rubles.

The new 2014 Jeep Cherokee is an avant-garde car that has introduced radically new notes to the existing crossover segment. Thanks to its brutal design, you won’t confuse it with any other car.

The machine is perfectly suited for Russia and Ukraine, since it can be filled with both AI-95 and AI-92.

The simplest modification of Active Drive I can, if necessary, connect the rear axle, whereas in normal driving conditions the SUV operates as a front-wheel drive one.

The 4-Low mode, which is designed for slow movement in off-road conditions, as well as for towing a trailer, is equipped with the second option, Active Drive II. When this mode is activated, the center differential, which is a multi-plate clutch, is blocked. In this version, the ground clearance increases by 25 mm.

Jeep's Active Drive Lock system is the most advanced yet, building on the previous version and can fully lock the rear differential to tackle tough off-road conditions.

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk has a full complement of transmission locks and towing hooks. When sales will begin and how much the car costs is still unknown.

But sales of Jeep Cherokee of European specification in Russia will begin on May 23. Externally and internally the car is absolutely similar to the overseas version. Review of the new Jeep Cherokee 2018-2019: appearance, interior, technical specifications, parameters, equipment, safety systems and price. At the end of the article there is a photo and video review of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover.

Review content:

Just mention the Jeep brand and you immediately remember SUVs with a powerful engine. The company began its history in 1941 as a subsidiary of Chrysler. The first copies of cars were produced for the needs of the army. The most famous to this day remains the Jeep Willys, a small off-road military vehicle. After World War II, the car began to be produced as a production model.

During the hostilities, Jeep showed itself from a variety of angles, in different situations, gaining considerable authority. Accordingly, there was considerable demand for an SUV. Today, the manufacturer has several models of SUVs, constantly improving and refining them. One of the latest new products was the Jeep Cherokee 2018. Compared to the fifth generation, the sixth received noticeable changes, both externally and in the interior. The new 2018 Jeep Cherokee has received updates rather than a complete change.

Exterior of the new Jeep Cherokee 2018-2019

The updated 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover was first presented at the Detroit auto show in January 2018. Despite the fact that this is a new generation, the SUV received partial updates, retaining the features of the previous generation. In addition to design changes, technical specifications and parameters have been improved and updated.

The front part of the 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee crossover received a new radiator grille and optics. The radiator grille has not changed much; the designers made the air supply openings larger, with an expressive chrome trim. As before, the radiator grille is mounted in the end part of the hood, and a chrome brand inscription is also located here. The optics of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover have completely changed, receiving a bend at the bottom. The upper part of the optics received LED daytime running lights, which also serve as direction indicators. To give a strict style, the background of the optics was painted black, and the high and low beam lenses were placed closer to the outer sides. Depending on the selected configuration of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee, the front optics will be halogen-based or fully LED.

Most of the front of the new 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee crossover is occupied by the bumper. As a result of improvements to the grille and optics, the bumper also received changes. Near the radiator grille, the recess has become larger, and the side parts have acquired small protrusions. The very bottom of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee bumper combines modern style and modern technology. In particular, these are new LED fog lights with chrome trim and black plastic insert.

The lower part of the front bumper of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee was allocated for an additional radiator grille with two tow hooks. Depending on the buyer’s wishes, they can be chrome-plated or painted in a different color; the front bumper can be a similar color (to match the body color or black). Thanks to the additional radiator grille, engineers not only improved engine cooling, but were also able to position the radar, gauges and sensors. For the maximum configurations, the bottom of the front bumper is emphasized by a silver insert; one might say it distinguishes the top version from the basic ones.

The change in the front optics of the 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee led to changes in the hood of the crossover. In its shape, it now looks more like the latest generation Grand Cherokee. A bend appeared along the perimeter of the hood, raising the central part. The center of the hood, in turn, is highlighted by two additional lines. Thus, the designers not only updated the hood, but also gave a more “evil” and modern style to the new Jeep Cherokee 2018. The windshield of the crossover remained unchanged. In expensive trim levels, or for an additional fee, there will be heating in the area where the windshield wipers are parked, or full heating around the perimeter. Some experts say that such an update deprived the new 2018 Jeep Cherokee of its individuality, while others said that it only improved the style, since sales of the previous generation were declining.

If you do not take into account the changes in the front optics, then the new Jeep Cherokee 2018-2019 has received virtually no changes on the side. On the side, the designers left the same curved lines and flattened wheel arches. To protect the wheel arches, the standard set includes plastic linings that can be painted in body color or black. The lower portions of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee's front doors continue to feature chrome model lettering.

The side rear view mirrors of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee were left unchanged, the body was painted partly to match the body color and partly in black, and LED turn signal indicators were added at the junction. The size of the mirrors has not changed; the standard set includes electric mirror adjustment and heating; for an additional fee or in more expensive trim levels, automatic folding and memory for several positions will appear.

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee's door handles are body-colored, although some comfort packages can also be chrome-plated. In total, the side part is designed for 3 glasses, one on the doors and one blind. Along the contour of the glass, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee is decorated with black, but often chrome, trim, but the center pillar will only be black. For an additional fee, the buyer can tint the rear side windows and trunk lid glass.

The body color of the new 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover is modest:

  • black;
  • granite;
  • burgundy;
  • grey;
  • light blue;
  • olive;
  • dark beige;
  • red;
  • pearly white;
  • silver;
  • dark grey;
  • white.
Only the specially equipped version of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee, which has received the maximum set of protection and off-road driving, will receive a bright body color. Otherwise, the colors of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover will be strict, in dark shades. As an addition, the color can be metallic or pearl.

Following the front part, changes affected the rear part of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee. At first glance, the changes are not so noticeable, since the upper part remained almost the same, but most of all, the designers modified the bottom of the crossover. The lower part of the trunk lid received a recess for license plates and a rear view camera, and the rough horizontal line was replaced with a smooth one. The rear stops of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee are now LED in all trim levels, the background and side part of the optics are LED. Part, as before, is located on the trunk lid, the second part is on the crossover body.

The upper part of the trunk lid of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee remains the same, a large sport spoiler with an LED stop repeater. To add uniqueness and style, the rear window of the crossover was rounded on the sides. The rear bumper attracts more attention; due to the removal of the number plate, the designers added a large diffuser with oblong fog lamps on the sides. The very bottom of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee bumper is decorated with two exhaust tips. Sensors for contactless opening of the trunk, as well as some security systems, are also hidden here. Following the new forms, the tow hook also disappeared; engineers placed it in the luggage compartment, and if necessary, it can be installed in place by pulling out the plug in the bumper.

The last thing in the appearance of the new 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover is the roof. Starting with the basic configuration, the manufacturer installs roof rails for securing additional luggage compartment or bulky cargo, as well as a whip antenna. In more expensive trim levels or for an additional fee, you can install an electric sunroof, but the top versions will get a panoramic sunroof with a sliding front part.

Comparing the updates of the 5th and 6th generations, the differences are significant and we can say that the designers took into account the wishes of the owners, removing futuristic style details and adding more strict features. Such improvements in the appearance of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee not only benefited sales, but also improved the technical characteristics of the crossover.

Interior of the new Jeep Cherokee 2018

In appearance, the changes in the new generation of Jeep Cherokee 2018 are clearly visible, but in the interior of the crossover they are almost invisible; only experienced car enthusiasts will tell where and what has changed. Despite the manufacturer's loud statements, in fact, the interior of the new 2018 Jeep Cherokee remains almost the same.

Still, if you look closely, you can find differences, in particular the design of the center console of the 2018-2019 Jeep Cherokee. The designers made the edging around the multimedia system thinner, and the buttons received more saturated colors; the side deflectors received a similar lively edging. In accordance with the color of the seat trim, the lower part of the front panel will change color. The multimedia system of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover is based on a 7" or 8.4" touch display. In the basic multimedia set, the set of functions is minimal with the Android Auto base; by paying an additional $795, the crossover buyer will receive two systems, including Apple CarPlay, a navigation system, a 4G modem and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

There are two air ducts located around the central display. Below the display there are parking assistant control buttons, an emergency parking button and a couple more systems depending on the configuration of the Jeep Cherokee 2018. Going below, the previously known dual-zone climate control panel is installed with the ability to turn off information on the central display.

The panel around the automatic transmission lever of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee will surprise you in its own way; the designers made it as convenient as possible with many useful functions. The central tunnel set includes a charging panel (USB connector, AUX input, SD card slot and 12V socket), next to it there is a selector for selecting one of the suspension modes; in the case of all-wheel drive, it is also responsible for its control. In addition to this, an electromechanical handbrake button is installed behind the gearshift lever; mechanics are not provided in the new generation. A completely unnoticeable change - the automatic transmission lever has lost its silver edging.

The central tunnel of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee interior ends with two cup holders and a central armrest (the smoker package must be purchased for an additional fee, it is not included in the standard set). For second-row passengers, a USB connector and a 12V socket for recharging will be available behind the armrest.

Following the front panel of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee, minimal changes were made to the interior of the crossover. The front and rear seats in the full sense of the word migrated from the 5th generation. The front seats of crossovers are made in a sporty style, with good lateral support and high headrests. Adjustment of the front seats depends on the configuration of the crossover; both mechanical and electronic are available. The second row of seats in the 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover is designed to seat three passengers, although only the top version will have three headrests installed; in the rest, the headrests are the same as for the first row of seats. The folding ratio of the rear seats is standard - 60/40, no other is provided.

It is almost impossible for a buyer to choose the seat trim material for the 2018 Jeep Cherokee. As standard, the upholstery is fabric, black or beige. More expensive trim levels received leather upholstery in black or gray. The central part of the seats in any configuration of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee will be perforated, the side parts are made of solid material, and to give a more modern style, an embossed Jeep inscription was added to the seat backs.

The third and less noticeable change to the interior of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee affected the driver's seat, namely the instrument panel. The silver edging of the instruments has become an order of magnitude smaller, similar to that on the central display. The instrument panel of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee remained essentially the same, on the sides of the dashboard there is a tachometer and speedometer with white backlight, and the center is reserved for the color display of the on-board computer.

The steering wheel of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover also received minor changes, due to an increase in silver edging, and the shape and functional buttons were changed. The center is reserved for the manufacturer's emblem, airbag and horn. The steering wheel can be adjusted in height and depth, with a good adjustment angle. On the sides behind the steering wheel you can find the crossover light control selector and the Start/Stop button, which is included in all trim levels of the new 2018 Jeep Cherokee.

To say that the interior of the new 2018 Jeep Cherokee crossover has changed would be too loud. The new parts are almost invisible, just like the covering material. By changing the edging around the perimeter of the instruments, the crossover in the cabin has become more expressive and modern, but in no way better in functionality or more comfortable.
