Installing and connecting parking sensors with your own hands: a car lesson from A to Z. What is a parking sensor system for a car? How is parking sensors connected?

Many vehicles already have this useful option installed at the factory. But, if necessary, you can always install parking sensors on your car at any car service center or yourself.

What is parking sensors and what benefits does it provide?

Parktronic or parking sensor is a high-tech development designed to simplify the parking process and indicate the dimensions of a vehicle while it is moving using ultrasonic detectors. The system also warns the driver about the occurrence of an obstacle on the way, which for certain reasons does not fall into the visibility zone. Provided that the device sensors are installed correctly on the vehicle, the following is guaranteed:

  • simplifying the parking process and increasing safety during its implementation;
  • quick adaptation of a novice driver behind the wheel, due to clearly marked dimensions of the vehicle;
  • the absence of “dead zones”, that is, places that do not fall into the driver’s field of vision;
  • safety while driving on narrow, heavily trafficked streets.
  • overcoming traffic jams, when it is extremely difficult to avoid random, minor collisions.

How the parking system works and works

All actuators of the parking sensors are controlled by the ECU, in which, in accordance with the established algorithms, commands are generated based on the information collected by the sensors.

The executive elements of the safe parking system are its ultrasonic sensors, which constantly scan the vehicle's overall area and, if an obstacle is detected, instantly transmit information to the computer.

A special indicator installed in the cabin displays all information in real time. Often it takes the form of a diagram. However, if the car is equipped with a camera, then detailed video information is received on the screen or windshield.

How do parking radars work?

To properly install a parking device on a car, for example, a Renault Logan, you need to understand the principle of its operation. Let's describe it:

Which parking sensor manufacturer should you prefer?

For the correct and correct functioning of the entire parking assistance system, it is very important to choose a high-quality device. For example, Korean and Taiwanese parking sensor manufacturing companies are at the same level. Parking security systems produced in Germany and Italy have proven themselves well.

ParkMaster systems are ideally suited for use in our climatic zones and are characterized by high performance characteristics and long service life. It can only be disrupted by serious damage to the device.

What are parking radars?

All systems differ from each other in the number of sensors installed on the vehicle. The more of them, the more productive the parking sensors are, and the more difficult it is to install it on the vehicle yourself. But, there are devices without sensors, the so-called strip ones, the main element of which is a special flat antenna.

Parking security systems have different methods of informing, and this is also where they differ:

  • In simple models, a sound signal acts as an information source.
  • More complex models have a special display that indicates the distance to the obstacle and its location.
  • In advanced modifications of the system, it is possible to display complete visual information directly on the windshield.

Self-installation of rear parking sensors

Let's describe the installation procedure in detail:

  • the luggage compartment upholstery is secured with studs, from which it is necessary to remove the plastic plugs;
  • remove the upholstery (in whole or in part) to provide access to the bumper mount and unscrew its bolts;
  • Next, unscrew all the screws that secure the bumper. Most of them are closed with plugs that must first be removed;
  • After completing these procedures, you can disconnect the bumper;
  • There are markings on the bumper for installing parking system sensors. It is applied at the factory. You just need to wash it to see the marks;
  • if it is missing, you must mark the surface of the bumper yourself in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions;
  • after all the marks have been applied, it is necessary to drill holes for the sensors;
  • Once all the holes are ready, you can begin installing the rear sensors of the safe parking system;
  • Assembly and installation of the bumper on the car is carried out in the reverse order.

Note that parking sensors must be mounted on the bumper of the Kia Rio and any other car strictly at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the road surface.

Sensors of any type are installed on a straight bumper. If the bumper is tilted, we recommend using DJ sensors. The design of these devices consists of replaceable elements that direct ultrasonic waves, due to which they will function correctly even with a strong bumper bevel.

Self-installation of front system sensors

The procedure is also not complicated:

Rear Parking Assist Sensor Wiring

After installing the sensors, you need to start installing the wiring. You can connect to ground in any convenient place, but still do it in accordance with the diagram.

Installing wiring to the front parking system sensors

It is better to route the wiring to the front sensors on the right, since the engine compartment plug is located on this side.

Let's get started:

Self-installation of a safe parking system with a rear view camera

Parking sensors cannot detect small obstacles (for example, reinforcement that sticks out of the ground), which is why it is advisable to get a device with a rear viewing camera.

Its installation location is the rear bumper or the trunk door (it is mounted on the Grant in the same way as on foreign cars). The parking sensor kit includes a special cutter of the same diameter with a rear view camera for drilling a hole.

The required tilt angle for better visibility is set thanks to special cut-off washers; the wiring to the camera can be routed through the luggage compartment.

The camera can also be powered from the reversing light.

Having completed the installation, we proceed to connecting the camera directly to the display. It is most convenient to hide the wiring on the left side of the cabin.

Parking sensors of this type can be equipped with wireless cameras. If everything went well, the transmitted image will appear on the screen.

Tips for installing parking sensors yourself

How to install a strip sensor yourself

This type of safe parking system is distinguished by its design. As already noted, strip parking sensors do not have sensors. They are replaced by a flexible metal plate glued to the surface of the bumper - a flat ribbon antenna. This design is easily mounted on the inside of the bumper.

To install the antenna, the rear bumper must be removed, thoroughly cleaned of dirt and degreased in the area where the antenna is glued.

Note that ideally it should be located at a distance of at least 30 mm from metal parts.

Connecting a tape system is no different from connecting a conventional one (with sensors).

Standard ultrasonic radars in cars warn the driver of detected obstacles when parking in tight spaces. But this equipment is not installed by manufacturers in all car models. The owner can install the parking sensors with his own hands; this will require carefully drilling the bumper and running patch cables through the car body.

Required Tools

To install the equipment on the car, you will need the following tools:

  • a special cutter for plastic (the diameter must correspond to the size of the sensor body);
  • electric drill or cordless screwdriver;
  • set of wrenches;
  • screwdrivers with flat and Phillips blades;
  • a set of keys with Torx-type heads (required for European-made machines);
  • test device;
  • masking tape;
  • tape measure and level;
  • pencil or marker.

How to install parking sensors

To install parking sensors yourself, you need to mount the sensors in the car’s bumpers and install a warning module in the car’s interior. The installation diagram includes a separate control unit, which is connected to the vehicle’s on-board network. The parts are connected to each other by cables included in the kit.

Before starting installation work, it is recommended to check the functionality of the parking assistant components. The parts are connected in accordance with the factory wiring diagram, then a 12 V DC source is switched, designed for a current of up to 1 A. To test the sensors, a sheet of cardboard is used, in which holes are drilled for installing the products. Then an obstacle is placed in front of each of the sensitive elements, and the accuracy of the distance measurement is checked with a tape measure.

When installing sensors, it is necessary to take into account the orientation of the parts in space.

On the back there is the inscription UP, which is complemented by an arrow pointer. During installation, the device is positioned with the arrow pointing upward, but it is allowed to rotate the sensor 180° if the bumper is located at a height of more than 600 mm or if the surface of the bumper is tilted upward, which impairs the sensitivity of the ultrasonic device.

Scheme

The installation diagram provides for the placement of ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers. The sensors are located on the end plane, as well as in the corners of the bumper, providing an expansion of the monitored area. The parking assistant can work in conjunction with a rear view camera, which displays the image on the radio screen or a separate display. The control unit is mounted under the trunk trim or in the passenger compartment (in an area protected from moisture). An information panel with a buzzer is placed on the instrument panel or built into the mirror.

Installing rear parking sensors

Installation of rear parking sensors begins with marking the surface of the bumper. The accuracy of the assistant’s work depends on the quality of the markings, so it is necessary to study the manufacturer’s recommendations in advance. If installed incorrectly, “dead” zones are formed in which an obstacle may appear.

Sequence of actions when installing rear ultrasonic sensors:

  1. Apply markings to the plastic bumper trim and stick pieces of masking tape at the sensor locations. The equipment set may contain a pattern that allows the owner to mark the surface of the bumper and install the sensitive elements himself. Equipment manufacturers recommend installing sensitive elements at a height of 550-600 mm from the ground.
  2. Determine the location of the centers of the holes using a tape measure and a hydraulic or laser level. Ultrasonic sensors should be located symmetrically at the same height.
  3. Mark the centers of the channels with a thin awl so that the cutter does not slip. For drilling, use the tool supplied by the parking aid manufacturer. The diameter of the hole must match the size of the sensor body to prevent elements from slipping out during operation.
  4. Secure the cutter in the chuck of the electric tool and start drilling. The cutting tool must be positioned perpendicular to the surface being processed, while the horizontal position of the cutter is controlled. Please note that under the plastic shell there is a metal beam that can break the tool.
  5. Install sensor housings with patch cables into the holes provided. If a foam damper is installed in the design of the machine, then it is necessary to carefully drill the part; the resulting channel is used to output connecting cords. If work is carried out on a removed plastic shell, then the cables are laid along the inner surface to the entry point into the body.
  6. Fix the sensors using the mounting rings from the kit; letters are printed on the body of the parts, allowing you to determine the purpose of the sensitive element. It is prohibited to swap elements, since the accuracy of the device will be affected. On the rear of the housing there are explanatory marks (eg arrows) indicating the correct position in the bumper.
  7. Route the cables from the sensors through the rubber O-ring of the standard wiring or the plastic plug into the luggage compartment. If the entry was made through a plug, then the entry point is sealed with a layer of sealant. The cables are pulled through using a piece of rope or elastic wire.

Parktronic is an electronic automotive device designed to detect interference when a vehicle maneuvers in a confined space. Actually, this is a miniature car radar.

Sensors installed on the front and rear of the vehicle emit an ultrasonic signal. If the signal encounters an obstacle, it is reflected from it and returns back.

The parking sensor processes the reflected signal and provides the driver with information about the obstacle that has arisen. Information can be provided to the driver by changing color, sound, or image. It can also be provided as a combination of several signal forms. For example, an image and a sound signal.

Parking sensors are an indispensable assistant in conditions of poor visibility, limited visibility, difficult maneuvering and parking conditions. Parking sensors are especially useful for novice drivers who do not yet have driving experience. Parking sensors will make it easier for experienced drivers to drive a vehicle.

Equipping parking sensors and dividing devices into groups

Standard parking sensors include

  1. Sensors for detecting interference. Depending on the model and operating principle, their number may vary. Typically, the device comes standard with 2 to 8 sensors.
  2. Electronic control unit. Designed to process the signal received from sensors.
  3. Information display tools. Speaker, LED, possibly LCD display.
  4. Installation wires.
  5. Fastening elements.
  6. Accompanying documents. Description of the device, technical data sheet, installation instructions, manufacturer's warranties. The warranty is valid for three years.

The device is mounted both on the front of the car and on the rear. Can be installed simultaneously on both the front and rear bumpers. Sensors can also be built into viewing mirrors.

Types of parking sensors:

Technical characteristics of parking sensors

As an example, here are the technical characteristics of the parking sensors built into the mirror:

  • device response range from 0.3 m to 2.5 m;
  • waterproof;
  • operating voltage ranging from 9 to 16 V;
  • operating temperature from -45 to +80 C;
  • alarm, level > 80 dB;
  • The sensor reading error is 10 cm;
  • detection angle – 80 degrees, both vertically and horizontally;
  • sound signal;
  • digital display;

In this example, we showed what characteristics need to be taken into account when purchasing parking sensors. Of course, different models have different parameters. The choice of a device with certain characteristics depends, for the most part, on where in the car the parking sensors will be installed. We only note that interference by any device can be detected at a distance from 0.3 meters to 2.5 meters.

All models of parking sensors can be divided into three groups according to characteristics, and therefore according to cost.

We will include parking sensors that have a relatively low price in the first group and call this group budget.

This group is characterized by the fact that the kit usually contains two, sometimes three, sensors. They are most often installed on the rear bumper. The viewing angle of such devices is small, there are dead zones, that is, areas that the device does not “see.” For example, parking sensors with two sensors do not detect interference that is located in the middle of the sensors.

The next group, which we will call average, includes parking sensors with 4 or 6 sensors.

They are also installed on the rear bumper. Parking sensors of the middle group no longer have most of the shortcomings. inherent in the budget group. Naturally, such parking sensors are more expensive.

The third group is the highest. The set of such parking sensors can include either 8 or 10 sensors.

They are installed on both the front and rear bumpers. That is, they provide a complete overview of the driving conditions both in front and behind the car. Such systems, of course, have a high cost. But they are reliable.

Installation of parking sensors

Installing sensors on the front bumper

The parking sensor control unit is usually installed in the trunk. Of course, it is better to start installing parking sensors from the rear bumper. But we will first describe the installation of sensors on the front bumper, and then on the rear. Let's look at how to install parking sensors with two front and two rear sensors.

Before installation, it is recommended to remove the bumper from the vehicle. Naturally, it needs to be cleaned and washed. It is possible that the bumper already has factory markings for installing parking sensors. If it is missing, we will do the marking ourselves. It should be taken into account that the sensors are installed at a height of at least 50 centimeters from the surface of the earth. We mark the installation locations of the sensors so that they are at an equal distance from each other, from the edge of the bumper.

The sensors must not interfere with the license plate or its molding. Then we take a drill with a thin drill and make holes in the bumper. Using a special cutter, it is included in the parking sensor kit, we expand the holes. We insert sensors into the holes. We secure the sensor wires with clamps. They are attached to the bumper. The sensors must be at right angles to the ground.

If the car's bumper is concave, then sensors with a special correction housing are used. Then we run the wires into the interior. It is better to drive them through the engine from the right side. The wires enter the interior through the glove block. The wires go to the control unit through the side stand. To do this, you need to remove the seal from it and pass the wires through the resulting cavity. In the trunk we connect the wires from the front sensors to the control unit. We remove the remaining wires under the casing.

Installation of sensors on the rear bumper

The actions are the same. as when installing sensors on the front bumper. Just first move the trim inside the trunk. The wires going to the sensors can be routed through the rear lights.

The device must be grounded. For this purpose, there are grounding points on both sides of the trunk. A warning device, such as a display, is installed at the front of the vehicle. Most often at the left pillar. It must be taken into account that the parking sensors operate on DC power. Therefore, during installation you must follow the connection diagram.

Typically, such a circuit comes complete with the device itself. Do not confuse the “plus” and “minus” circuits; the device will not work or distortions will occur. The kit does not include a mounting wire for wiring throughout the vehicle. Therefore, you will have to buy it yourself. You will need to buy a wire to connect the power to connect the warning system. Corrugation for protecting wires, electrical tape, fasteners, in particular, clamps.

An approximate connection diagram for parking sensors is shown in the picture below:

All work on installing parking sensors takes no more than 3 hours.

Parking sensor testing

The most reliable test for parking sensor operation is testing it on a special stand. In such a test, you can fully check its performance in a variety of modes. If you check the parking sensors yourself, it is better to do it on a well-studied route, where you know all the obstacles, for example, when parking near your house. Check how it reacts to interference at different distances. How does one behave when the situation changes? For example, when appearing near a car. But it’s better not to be lazy, take it to a car service center and drive it on the stand.

You can find out more about working with specific parking sensors at the following links: , ).

Parking sensor cost and installation cost

The cost of parking sensors, depending on the model, configuration, and manufacturer, ranges from 900 rubles to 11,400 rubles. The price is also affected by the region in which the device is sold.

Prices for installing parking sensors range from 1000 rubles. For example, this price for installing parking sensors is valid in the Republic of Mari-El.

Parking sensors are practically not sold separately. The product is almost always sold with installation. That is, the price of the product includes the cost of installation. In Moscow, parking sensors for the rear bumper of the PARKMASTER brand can be purchased with installation at prices ranging from 5,300 rubles to 6,100 rubles. Naturally, the price depends on the modification and configuration of the product. There is a benefit to this. Along with the installation, you also receive a guarantee from the company performing the installation. For 3 years you can count on warranty service and repairs.

One of the most difficult maneuvers when driving a car is reversing. But whether we like it or not, we have to use such a driving mode all the time, especially when parking a car. To ensure safe driving in such a situation, parking sensors were born.

What is it and what is the design of parking sensors

This device has many names. It is called parking sensors, parking radar, and parking sonar. From these names, the principle of its operation becomes clear - detecting an obstacle, measuring the distance to it and warning the driver. This happens in the following way: when reverse gear is engaged, the ultrasound generator that is part of the parking sensors begins to emit.

If an obstacle appears along the vehicle's path or nearby, a reflected signal appears from it, which is perceived by the parking sensor circuit. Based on the delay time of such a signal, the system determines the distance to the obstacle and warns the driver of the car about this using signaling and indication devices provided by the design of the product.

What type of parking sensor system is there?

To understand what such a device is, just look at the picture:
It includes:

  • the electronic unit;
  • sensors placed on the car bumper;
  • display and indication device.

This is a fairly enlarged image, but it allows you to understand what the product is. Existing types of parking sensors are quite diverse and numerous. You can identify the following signs by which they differ from each other:

Number of connected sensors. There may be two, or there may be eight. The ability to detect obstacles when maneuvering in reverse and the cost of the parking sensor itself depend on the quantity. If a car is equipped with two sensors, then the likelihood that an obstacle will go unnoticed is quite high. If the device contains eight sensors, then the probability of error is minimal.

Distance display method. The system can use distance indicators with one scale, with two scales and a digital display of the distance to the obstacle.

Information display tool. For parking sensors, the data that the device receives as a result of its operation can be displayed on:

  1. special device;
  2. liquid crystal display;
  3. windshield;
  4. car rear view mirror.

A method of transmitting information to an electronic control unit from sensors. A system such as parking sensors can use data transmission both via cable and radio channel for these purposes.

Use of additional devices. There are special systems that additionally use a video camera to display the space behind the car in the rearview mirror. It is believed that such parking sensors with a rear view camera create opportunities for the safest conditions when maneuvering in reverse. At the same time, do not forget that although the car is equipped with parking sensors, the rear view mirror also, with no less efficiency, allows you to timely assess the presence of obstacles behind the car.

Sensor locations. Initially, it was planned to place them only on the surface of the rear bumper of the car, but later the parking sensors system began to use sensors installed on the front bumper.

How to connect parking sensors

This task is important, but it is quite possible to complete it on your own, following the instructions. Typically, the wiring diagram requires connecting sensors, a display device and an electronic unit. It is usually installed in the trunk of a car in any convenient place.

The next task in the connection diagram involves installing sensors. If there are more than two of them planned, then the outer ones are installed first, at the bending radii of the rear bumper, then the rest are placed at the same distance. Before installing them, prepare the surface by clearing it of dust and dirt, and after that markings are made on it on the surface of the rear bumper where they will be located. The system usually provides for a certain location of the rear view sensors, including, as a rule, it is necessary to maintain a distance of fifty centimeters from the ground.

Holes are drilled in the designated areas of the rear bumper, in which sensors are then installed. To ensure that the system works reliably in the future, they are additionally attached to the bumper using glue or sealant. After this, you need to connect the sensors to the control unit, as provided by the parking sensor diagram. If the display device is planned to be located on the front panel or on the rearview mirror, then the wires for connection will need to be laid under the interior trim, for which it will have to be removed.

It is best to combine all the wires used to connect the rear view sensors into a single harness using clamps; additional measures must be taken to protect against damage at the transitions through the holes. After the connection diagram for all devices has been completed, the parking sensors must be tested. To do this, the parking sensors system is tested under different conditions to determine its ability to detect obstacles when maneuvering. If the product works correctly, promptly detects and warns about the presence of obstacles, then you have succeeded in connecting the parking sensors.

Parking sensors for cars, their possible failures and malfunctions

As a rule, the causes of parking sensor malfunctions are failures of sensors and wires in the harnesses. Of course, it is possible that a failure occurred in the electronic control unit, as a result of which the parking sensor system itself either stopped working or does not work properly. But such a refusal is quite rare.

For example, an external manifestation of a failure can sometimes be a long squeak that the system produces for no apparent reason. In this case, a possible reason could be that the rear view sensor is splashed with dirt; after removing the dirt, the parking sensors will be able to work as before. Another reason may be the short circuit of individual wires that are connected to the central sensor unit. In this case, the correct operation of the product will be disrupted, and diagnostics will be required to restore its functionality.

The wires for connecting the sensors will also become shorted by moisture, as a result of which the correct signal flow pattern will be disrupted. However, after drying the wires, performance should be restored.

In itself, such a device as parking sensors cannot be considered a mandatory element of the car, but nevertheless, it turns out to be useful when performing complex maneuvers, especially for novice drivers. Parking sensors can be of different types and designs, but in any case, for its operation, it requires the connection of rear view sensors.

Every year, many vehicles appear on modern city streets.

At the same time, the number of parking spaces for vehicles is not increasing as actively, and vehicle drivers have to park more densely, which inevitably leads to an increase in the number of road incidents. Installing parking sensors will help you avoid an awkward situation. Parktronic is a parking radar that helps drivers park their vehicle safely, regardless of conditions. This is especially useful for novice drivers, including those who are just learning how to park a vehicle in difficult city conditions.

Such solutions are divided into several types, so this article will consider one of the most popular types - ultrasonic radar. The principle of operation of the device is simple: special sensors are placed in the bumper of the vehicle, transmitting and receiving an acoustic signal. The device calculates the distance to the nearest obstacle based on the time it takes for the sound wave to travel from the sensor to the obstacle and reflect back from it. This is achieved due to the constant speed of sound.

The driver is provided with a complex, visual or audio signal. Some variations have LCD screens that display the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle, as well as the position. As practice has shown, drivers perceive audio signals best, but this is largely an individual trait.

Installing parking sensors with your own hands does not require any professional-level skills.

Almost any car enthusiast can handle this operation. All you need are drilled holes and properly connected wires. Most of the necessary tools can be found in the garage.

The parking radar kit mainly includes:

  • sensors “from two to eight pieces”
  • connecting cables
  • screen
  • signal processing unit.

Installing parking sensors is a fairly reasonable price; some sellers even include installation work in the price of the equipment in question. However, those who want to save money or simply want to do it themselves can use a variety of installation methods.

Equipment

In addition, some options include a cutter for drilling holes for sensors and various bonus little things. But if they are not included in the kit, this is not so important; you can measure the dimensions of the sensor and buy a drill in a specialized store. But it is worth considering that the diameter of the cutter should not exceed the diameter of the sensor by one or two millimeters.

To install and connect the radar you will need:

  • the radar itself
  • cutter for preparing holes for sensors “mostly supplied as a kit”
  • drill
  • keys
  • measuring instruments, electrical insulating tape.

All vehicles have certain differences and each case has its own nuances, so other things may be required, such as pliers, a soldering iron or a diagram of the electrical equipment of the vehicle.

This installation option is universal and is suitable for most machines. Sensors are mounted in the bumpers, which are connected to the control unit using wires. The device screen can be located either on the dashboard or at the end of the cabin and it is also connected to the unit.

Rear radar installation

You should begin installing the system by drilling holes for the sensors. This stage is the most critical procedure and therefore it is very important to do everything at the proper level. On certain models, the bumper does not need to be removed, but for convenience you can try.

The first step is to mark out the places on the bumper where the sensors will be installed in the future. In the radar instructions you will be able to see the basic installation requirements, such as the most suitable distance to the ground and between the sensors. It is important to comply with these requirements and take them into account before creating holes. Next, mounting-type tape is glued to the places where the holes will be made, and the center of each hole is also marked.

Mounting the radar in the rear bumper

Just in case, it’s worth double-checking the markings of each hole, because if you make a mistake, you won’t be able to correct it later!

Using the cutter, we drill holes with the applied markings. It is important that the sensor is directed horizontally after installation, so the drilling must be perpendicular to the bumper.

Having finished with the stage described just above, we begin to place the sensors outward with the wires inside the hole. Some vehicles have a damper, which means a wire or nail will be needed to position the wire successfully. Having made a hole in the damper in advance, attach a nail to the cable using electrical insulating tape and pull it further inside.

Next, the sensor is inserted and secured from the rear with specialized rings included in the package. It is important to place the sensors in the correct sequence. They are designated by the first four letters of the Latin order.

The following should be similar to the alphabetical sequence.

As a rule, the sensors are made in black or silver, and therefore, if necessary, their color can be adapted to the color of the bumper. This operation will in no way affect their performance or service life, and will add beauty to your vehicle. They select paint visually, or with an accurate determination of color using a selection on a computer.

Basically, the signal processing unit is installed in the luggage compartment, but it can also be mounted on the inside of the wing or below the dashboard of the cabin. We will study the most common option.

Installation will be carried out in the bumper and trunk. The first thing you need to do is empty the trunk and remove the trim. The wires from each sensor need to be wound. This can be done using electrical insulation tape or by running the wire through a corrugation.

It can serve as good protection. The coiled wiring is carried out under the bumper into the trunk through the hole made. If the latter is missing, a new one is drilled and, after pulling the wires, filled with a sealing agent.

In the future, you need to decide on the installation location of the signal processing unit.

This place must be safe enough for him, since the block can be torn off by the cargo being transported. They attach it to any surface using double-sided tape - simply by tearing off the film and attaching the block.

The radar will be activated when reverse gear is engaged. Therefore, at the end you need to stock up on power from the reverse optics, observing the polarity. First of all, they get to the rear optics wires and determine the polarity. Most wiring includes black or red coated cable insulation. As a rule, plus is isolated with red color. If there are certain problems with this, you can resort to a tester.

Connect the wires in 2 ways:

Remove the insulation from the cables and twist them together. Afterwards, the connection area is tightly wrapped with electrical insulating tape. The procedure is repeated with each pair of wires of different polarity.

As an alternative, rivets can be used, which, when compressed, bring the wires into contact. This option is more practical, because there is no need to cut anything or remove insulation. In some cases, rivets are included in the kit, but if they are not there, you can always buy them at the store.

Rear radar connection

A rivet is placed on the positive wire from the reverse optics. The second of the holes is necessary for connecting the wire to power the unit. Then, using pliers, a jumper is pressed in, piercing the cables with different polarities and creating contact.

Having finished with the procedures described above, proceed to connecting the sensor unit, each wire connector is marked.

Now you need to think about where the device's display will be located. Basically, it is installed on the dashboard. But in some cases it is installed in the rear area of the cabin so that it does not fall into the rearview mirror. As with the block, it is secured to a flat surface with double-sided tape. Whatever location is chosen, the next step will be connecting to the signal processing unit.

It is important to note that for successful installation of the display it will be important whether the display does not fall into the mirror. The reason lies in the fact that the information in the mirror is mirrored. In order for the correct information to be displayed through the mirror, you need to change the order of the connected wires, starting from A and ending with D.

The rear-mounted display does not require running a wire across the cabin to the instrument panel. It is enough to pull the wiring through the hole under the seat, and from there under the trim of the side and roof of the vehicle. For a front-mounted display, the wiring is located under the mats.

All wiring must be secured using electrical tape or clamps.

The same applies to extra pieces of wire. It may also happen that in sunny weather the vehicle begins to warm up, and the block attached to double-sided tape will slide off. Upon completion of the installation work, turn on the ignition, and then select reverse gear so that you can check the operation of the screen. If the display lights up, it means that all work has been completed correctly.

Front radar installation

Installation from the front is done in a similar way, but with some modifications. In this case, it is necessary to stretch the wiring along the hood to the vehicle interior, and from there to the trunk, where the processing unit is located. On certain models, before starting installation work, it is necessary to dismantle the radiator grille and the air inlet pipe.

In the future, everything is done according to the instructions - holes for the front parking sensors are marked and made. A wire is needed to pull the wire under the bumper.

After this, the wiring is secured using electrical insulating tape. Using a technological hole, the wire is brought out into the space under the hood. There are times when the washer fluid reservoir will interfere with the wiring, so this element will need to be removed.

It is best to run the wire from the sensor located on the left from the side of the engine compartment, which is located below the battery. In order to extend the remaining wiring, you can resort to standard corrugation, if you have one. The cable is pulled into the cabin using a technological hole.

It is important to determine the method of activating the front device. There are several ways:

Activation with a separate button. With this method, you will need to connect the front radar to a standard front panel button, or resort to installing a new button. This option is useful because it allows you to use devices only when you really need it.

Activation during ignition. This method is more practical, because it does not require constant pressing of the button. You need to find the ignition wire. To do this, you need to carefully open the panel and use the tester to find the required wire. First of all, turn on the ignition and find a wire with a voltage of twelve volts. Then turn off the ignition, after which voltage will stop flowing to the wire.

Activation of the front radar using the brake pedal. In this case, power will be required from the appropriate lamp. The required wire is determined using the previously mentioned tester using a similar scheme.

And finally, you will need to route the wiring through the vehicle interior to where the signal processing unit is installed. The wiring of the front radar is connected based on the information from the instructions, in a case similar to the rear radars. If necessary, you can watch how to install parking sensors yourself in a video.

There are a number of reasons due to which the radar may be inoperative or fail after installation work is completed. As an example, two popular cases:

In the first paragraphs of the article, measures were recommended to check the functionality of the device before installation on a vehicle. If it was operational before installation, you should check the condition of each main unit. Each component must be connected as specified in the instructions supplied with the device in question. It is important to check whether the nutrition was provided correctly. It is likely that the cause of the breakdown may be that the product is defective.

The fastest and most reliable way to calculate the causes of a breakdown is computer diagnostics. This service is provided by many vehicle repair shops.

For the most part, the cause of the problems lies in the sensors, which you should pay attention to first. One of the most common problems is a constant signal. The reason may lie in a foreign body that is placed on the sensor, or oxidation of contacts and short circuit.

Also, the sensors are sensitive to liquid, and therefore can give a false signal. This problem can be solved by drying. In cold weather, sensors may also lose sensitivity. But this does not affect their further performance.

All wiring must be secured with electrical tape. The same applies to extra pieces of wire. It may also turn out that in hot summer weather the car will heat up, and the block attached to double-sided tape will slide off.

As a result, it is worth noting that before heading out on the road, it is important to test the device in different operating modes and with various obstacles, which will allow you to get an idea of in which situation the system gives a false signal and in which a real one.
