Cons of the Kia Cerato - suspension. Used KIA Cerato: what is hidden under the attractive wrapper How many kilometers does a Kia Cerato take care of?

The Korean automobile industry, as we know, has long conquered almost all markets in the world. And, of course, one of the Kia models brought its own zest to this conquest - the KIA Cerato. This car was not initially conceived as a high-class car and was designed for the average consumer, which accordingly affected the quality and durability of individual components and assemblies. Therefore, like other cars of this class, Kia Cerato, unfortunately, has a number of weaknesses, diseases and shortcomings that every future buyer needs to know about.

Weaknesses of the Kia Cerato 2nd generation

  • Rear springs;
  • Tensioner and timing chain itself for cars with a 1.6 liter engine;
  • Solenoid relay;
  • Clutch release bearing;
  • Steering rack;
  • Water pump and thermostat.

Now more details...

Rear springs.

We can say that the springs on the Kia Cerato are one of the weak points. They are not at all designed for the intended weight carried in the rear (rear passengers and cargo in the trunk) of the car. Accordingly, with frequent trips with the rear of the car loaded, the rear springs, as a rule, sag or, in worst cases, simply break. When inspecting a car before purchasing, you must pay attention to this nuance.

Timing chain tensioner for cars with a 1.6 liter engine.

The timing chain is a fairly serious element of any car, requiring constant care and inspection of its condition. But in addition to the condition of the chain, in any case, it is necessary to periodically check its tension, and accordingly the tensioner is responsible for the tension of the timing chain. It is due to the fault of the tensioner and the stretching of the chain itself that an unpleasant phenomenon can occur - this is a jumping of the teeth and, accordingly, a possible meeting of the valves with the pistons. Before purchasing, it is imperative to check the chain tension, otherwise you will have to change it, but it is changed, as a rule, together with the tensioner and it will cost more than a penny. A characteristic sign of a loose chain is the “diesel” sound of the engine.

Solenoid relay.

The retractor relay is another one of the sores of Kiya Cerato. Of course, we can say that this is a design miscalculation, but it is necessary to know about this before purchasing. The essence of the problem is that the lubricant embedded in the solenoid relay thickens significantly in winter and, accordingly, it becomes difficult to start the engine. Therefore, this car is not fully adapted to the harsh Russian frosts.

Release bearing on cars with manual transmission.

An equally common problem with Kia Cerato is the clutch release bearing. The essence of the problem is that very often Cerato owners struggle with the whistling of this bearing. And, unfortunately, until now there are no effective solutions to the situation with bearing whistling. Replacing or treating the surface with a special lubricant may help, but it is important to know that this will help, but not for long. When checking the car, this can be noticed, but in the future it will not be possible to eliminate the whistle for a long time. This can also be attributed to a design defect.

Steering rack.

If, for example, the service life of the steering rack of many cars is about 100 thousand km. mileage, then the KIA Cerato has two or even more times less. Knocks and rack leaks can already appear when the car has driven within 40-50 thousand km. after the last replacement or repair. Typical signs of a faulty rack are knocking noises on the steering wheel when driving over uneven surfaces or standing still when the steering wheel is rotated.

According to the cooling system.

Considering that the 2nd generation Cerato has not been produced for three years, the average mileage of a car currently sold will therefore be from 60 to 110 thousand km. Therefore, within this mileage, it may be necessary to replace the thermostat and pump. It is important to note that these mechanisms are not weak points, but it is necessary to pay attention to this.

Disadvantages of KIA Cerato 2008-2013 release

  1. Poor sound insulation;
  2. Low ground clearance;
  3. Hard plastic interior;
  4. Rigid suspension;
  5. Crickets in the cabin after a run of 20 thousand km;
  6. Some ergonomic miscalculations.

Conclusion.

In conclusion, I would like to remind you of the saying that, due to the shortcomings of this car, “there are no comrades according to taste.” But this all depends on the individual requirements of the owner and on the cars he has previously driven. But it is important to know that the Kia Cerato is not a favorite among its competitors of other brands and models. The most important thing when buying this car is that, in addition to the weaknesses described above, you must thoroughly check all the systems, components and assemblies of the car you are buying yourself, or, ideally, at a car service center.

P.S: Dear current and future owners, do not forget to describe your second generation Kia Cerato in the comments, indicating sore spots and shortcomings!

    A very useful article. Indeed, almost all problem areas are illuminated. Add, if only, bump stops and anthers that rattle in the cold. I just changed the solenoid relay. (Kia Cerato, 2009, 108,000 km).

  2. Alexei

    Kia Serato2, 2012 mileage 110 t.km.
    The starter solenoid relay recently failed.
    at 60 thousand I changed the stabilizer links.
    "Crickets" settled in the stove,
    I've worn out the front pads by almost 100 thousand. That's all for now!
    I called the officials after the first maintenance, the guarantee is bullshit.
    I change the oil every 10 thousand. The rest is according to the regulations.

  3. Alexei

    The disadvantages include a very large turning radius (due to small wheel alignment).

  4. Julia

    Kia Serato, 2011, 90,000 km. Passed 6 technical inspections. I don’t agree with Alexey; at 40 thousand km the steering column was replaced under warranty. During the operation of the car, nothing particularly broke. Of the little things, if only: the buttons on the steering wheel stick, the handbrake, well, probably that’s all. I’m very pleased with the car, I’m not a racer, the equipment is luxury, there’s enough of everything. I change the oil every 10 thousand km. The trunk is really big, but you can’t load it that much, since the springs are weak. This happened to a friend; the spring burst. But the car is good, I recommend it.

  5. Denis

    Mileage 160,000 km. I didn’t change anything in the car other than the brake discs, and I put spacers on the rear springs. I'm happy with the car.

  6. Peter

    Cerato 1.6 manual transmission 2011 mileage 117 thousand km. I only changed the air conditioning compressor (factory defect). for 100 thousand replacement of links (consumables). According to the regulations, the OD does not have it. I think all the items listed in the article can be applied to any car. The car is reliable and not whimsical.

  7. Cons

    Serato 2011, 1600, 6 manual transmission, mileage 240,000 km. At the first 20,000 it stopped recognizing the key (immobilizer replacement under warranty). 50,000 replacement of front struts (I installed some Chinese ones, cheap ones, they are still in use today). 100,000 oil change in the box (just changed). 110,000 front pads (this is in Moscow!). 160,000 replacement of levers. 180,000 the fuel pump was covered (a simple Bosch engine was installed for 1.8 mps). 190,000 I partially rebuilt the chassis (support bearings, bones, tips, rear shock absorbers and some small things (original rear pads, for example)). 230,000 The headlight range control units stopped buzzing. I don’t want to go to the OD, but for some reason the homemade ones can’t figure out where the electricity went in them. I just haven’t worked closely yet - I’ve been driving for 10,000 already (the left headlight shines normally, the right one is on its own. At 240,000 I’m going to change the timing chain, but there are no special signs of wear. The engine is smooth, the gasoline consumption is low, the landing is a bit low, so far nothing has gone wrong. Overall I'm happy - it's a normal workhorse.

  8. Alexander

    Cerato 2012. 6vrgg/ 1.6/ mileage 60,000. Didn't change anything, just consumables. I'm happy with the car, no cracks. I think I’ll go on the lift - there’s a slight knocking sound, it looks like a rack. I’ve changed the light bulbs 3 times. I put some spacers in, I got up, it’s better to jump on the pits. Good luck to everyone and great personal happiness.

  9. Denis

    Good day everyone! I own a 2010 Kia Cerato (Korean). During its operation since 2012 (in my hands), I bought it with a mileage of 34,000 km, today the mileage is 152,000 km. During all this time, I changed the timing belt twice and everything that comes with it. The steering rack is in excellent condition. Everything else is consumables (brake pads, silent blocks, lateral stability control arms, shock absorbers in a circle with new springs). Change the engine oil every 5-7 thousand. All other liquids are according to regulations. That seems to be all!!! Overall I'm happy with the car and don't have any problems.

    Very often the return hose breaks on the power steering

Kia Cerato debuted in 2003. The car was offered as a sedan and a 5-door hatchback. The American version was called Spectra and was equipped only with a 2-liter gasoline engine. In 2006, the model was updated. The headlights, taillights, trunk lid and front bumper received cosmetic changes.

Kia Serato still looks attractive. I will like the interior less. There is room inside even for rear passengers, but the finishing materials are not impressive. In addition, they wear out quickly, and the plastic begins to creak over time. But passengers have plenty of storage space for small items, a spacious glove box and cup holders. Trunk volume is 345 liters.

The Korean is built on the same platform as the Hyundai Elantra XD. In EuroNCAP crash tests conducted in 2006, the sedan earned three stars out of a possible five. He received the same amount for protecting children in car seats.

Engines

The Kia Cerata has three petrol and three diesel engines. However, the announcement is dominated by cars with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. There are also offers with a 2-liter gasoline engine and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel.

The 1.6 liter petrol engine provides quite satisfactory performance. And the chance of running into expensive repairs is minimal. In 2006, instead of the 105-horsepower unit (G4ED), they began to install a 122-horsepower unit (4GFC). The first is equipped with hydraulic valve clearance compensators, and the second needs to adjust the valve clearance by selecting pushers (every 100,000 km). The 2-liter engine (G4GC) lacks hydraulic compensators. Valve clearances are adjusted using washers.

The gas distribution mechanism of the 122-horsepower 4GFC is driven by a chain. Its resource is more than 250-300 thousand km. Sometimes premature chain stretching occurs - closer to 200,000 km. Incidents have even been recorded - broken chains and bent valves. But all these troubles are isolated cases. It is worth noting that the 2007 batch of engines had problems with the hydraulic chain tensioner. Its rod did not have enough free play. The flaw was later corrected.

The pre-styling version of the 1.6-liter engine (G4ED) and the 2-liter engine (G4GC) have a combined timing drive. The timing belt is connected to only one camshaft. And the camshafts are connected to each other by a short chain located on the rear side of the engine. The chain resource is more than 300,000 km.

The gas distribution mechanism of diesel engines is driven by a chain. It can stretch after 200,000 km.

Among the common problems, one can note engine mounts, the service life of which is about 100-150 thousand km. Attachments, as a rule, do not require attention until 200-250 thousand km.

Transmission

The engines were combined with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Moreover, diesel engines could only be combined with a manual transmission.

Problems with automatic transmissions are rare and occur after 200-250 thousand km. Fortunately, repairs are not complicated and relatively inexpensive - up to 40-50 thousand rubles. To extend the life of the automatic transmission, you should not forget to update the oil in the box every 60,000 km.

The mechanics start to bother you a little earlier. After 100,000 km - a dead release bearing (from 1,000 rubles), and after 100-150 thousand km - a leaking clutch master cylinder (2,800 rubles). After 150-200 thousand km, it’s the turn of the clutch (from 5,000 rubles per set). It is worth noting that in cars with diesel engines, the service life of these components is approximately one third less. The manual transmission itself takes a long time.

After 100-150 thousand km, the outer CV joint may become noisy (from 2,000 rubles). More often the reason is a leaky boot. Drive seals last 200-300 thousand km.

Chassis

The front axle has MacPherson struts, and the rear axle has a multi-link design. Road handling can be criticized due to a lot of body roll and oversteer.

The strength of the chassis is not objectionable, apart from the springs. One of them may break down after 100-150 thousand km (about 3,000 rubles). The original shock absorbers and support bearings of the front struts last a little longer.

The front wheel bearings run more than 100-150 thousand km, and the rear ones - over 200-250 thousand km.

The front suspension silent blocks and ball joints may require attention after 150-200 thousand km, and the rear suspension earlier - after 100,000 km. After 100,000 km, the steering rack may begin to knock.

Other problems and malfunctions

The Cerato body is not prone to corrosion. However, with intensive use in salty winter conditions, after 7-8 years, red spots may appear on the thresholds. There are even cases where the thresholds rotted through. Rust attacks from within.

There are interruptions in the operation of the central locking system. One of the reasons is jamming of the lock mechanism. The manufacturer even advised to grind off the “extra” protrusion of the tongue a little. Less commonly, the problem is caused by a microswitch failure.

Problems with the air conditioner after 150-200 thousand km may arise due to the compressor clutch pulley bearing. ABS sensors may have to be replaced after 150-200 thousand km.

Conclusion

The first generation Kia Cerato is a successful model. It rarely breaks down and is quite cheap to maintain and repair. Any problems are caused solely by age and excessive mileage. For the inexperienced buyer, Serato is a smart choice.

– for every minus there is a plus (test drive from Test-drive.ru)

The new Kia Cerato seemed very interesting. So much so that it was simply impossible to resist test driving a Kia. This is due to the alluring appearance of this Kia Cerato, its length is more than 4.5 meters and the price starts from 559,000 rubles. After examining the Kia Cerato at the entrance to Auchan at Belaya Dacha (where it was on public display), it was decided to take this Kia for a test.

Of the three trim levels of the Kia Cerato, it was decided to choose the minimum one, the one that costs 559 thousand. This is a Kia with a 1.6 engine and manual transmission. Two other configurations are 1.6 manual transmission (but with a number of additional options - 599,000 rubles) and 1.6 automatic transmission (639,000 rubles).

Internal advantages

How can Kia Cerato seduce a buyer? Firstly, a very spacious interior. Even a two-meter giant can easily sit behind the driver, whose height is 180 cm! Because of its length (193 cm), the cabin seems narrow, but in fact it is wide enough for three passengers (147 cm) - measure the width of your shoulders (it will be approximately 45-50 cm). The numbers come out beautiful. I can’t even believe that such a large salon of the Kia Cerato was designed by slender Koreans. Not otherwise, they tried especially for Europe. I arrogantly open the trunk of the Kia (they probably saved money on it for the sake of such a large interior) and... what are you going to do - there’s a ton of space in there! It's difficult to even reach the back wall. But the loading opening, due to the small tailgate, is too small, and the threshold is high. In addition, the plump bumper (like the previous Kia Cerato) prevents you from getting closer to the luggage. All loading and unloading had to be done with one hand, resting the other on the threshold or floor of the trunk.

The interior of the Kia Cerato is made of inexpensive plastic, and the version chosen for testing has a uniform gray color, without aluminum inserts. It doesn’t look festive at all, but there is an incentive to pay an additional 40 thousand to get an aluminum design, and in addition: steering wheel reach adjustment, fog lights and light sensor, climate control instead of air conditioning, side airbags, curtains and active head restraints, ESP system, heating front seats and windshield. This is what KIA marketers were counting on.

For me, the main advantage of the Kia Cerato interior was not so much the presence of an audio system that plays MP3 discs, but AUX and USB ports for a flash drive and iPod. I haven’t used bulky disks that take up a lot of space in the glove compartment or armrest of a car for a long time. What progress has come! People are already unhappy with how bulky CDs are!

The Kia Cerato's noise insulation has two flaws - noise comes from the wheel arches and from the engine when the speed reaches 90 km/h. Tolerable, but I would like to improve the sound insulation of the wheel arches. As for the sound of the Kia engine, it is, of course, not the singing of a BMW, but there are pleasant notes in the voice.

Overall, the interior makes a favorable impression: large, neat and comfortable. The only let down were the dullness of the design (which can be fixed), the sound insulation (also fixable) and the boot loading opening.

In move

On the move, the Kia Cerato is not as good as it looks. Don’t flatter yourself – this is not an athlete, but don’t be upset either – Kia Cerato’s gait has enough advantages.

The Cerato steering wheel is quite informative, but when compared with the Kia Sid steering wheel, it is somewhat blind. Not suitable for racing, but for civilian driving, albeit fast, it’s just right. At a speed of 90 km/h, the Cerato sometimes needs to be slightly corrected on the trajectory, but at 130 km/h the car is properly pressed to the road and the steering improves somewhat. No, the feedback from the wheels does not get better, but the need to correct the Kia’s trajectory disappears. Due to the not entirely clear feedback from the steering wheel to the wheels, you need to be more careful when turning at speed, and it’s better to slow down and not be naughty.

The Kia Cerato suspension has both a huge plus and a rather big minus. The advantage lies in the ability to comfortably drive on uneven and even simply dead roads. The Kia Cerato passes some potholes on the road (cut out pieces of asphalt) almost without noticing, and on dirt roads you can only marvel at how beautifully the car’s suspension absorbs all the bumps, as if they were three times smaller. No bumps, no swaying - just the tires slapping. I even tried driving around the dacha traffic jam on the side of the road - great! Here's an example: when suddenly a hole appeared on the side of the road, half the size of a wheel, I, not having time to brake, closed my eyes, expecting the right wheel to dive into it and break the suspension, but none of this happened - Kia nodded slightly, and very smoothly, slammed the tire and rushed on. . In this case, neither the balancing nor the wheel alignment were disturbed, and the steering rods were not damaged. The suspension is just right for our rough roads!

The disadvantage of the Kia Cerato suspension is its slight rolliness, but the main thing is the poor stability of the rear axle in corners. Sometimes, when hitting some joint or bump, it rearranges it. Most likely due to unequal weight distribution along the axles.

In general, I liked the steering and suspension settings - they match each other. With a suspension like that of the Kia Cerato, there is no need for a sharp steering wheel. It’s nice to drive, you just need to remember about some of the described features.

A small digression. Don't be fooled by the looks of modern cars! Drivers often become victims of deception when a sporty-looking car steers poorly and is unstable on the road. A striking example of this is the Mitsubishi Lancer (I’ve seen so many of them in ditches!). Kia Cerato, although it steers better, is not as good as its older brother Kia Sid, and is not suitable for annealing.

One but 126

The Kia Cerato has only one engine - a 1.6-liter, but 126-horsepower. Like all modern engines, the Cerato engine is strangled by environmental standards. It revs up slowly when revving in neutral and just as slowly slows down, but accelerates the car quite briskly for its volume - 10 seconds to a hundred. True, when overtaking there is not always enough traction. I’ll say this about efficiency: the test Cerato was still running in (1,500 km) and consumed more than promised in the technical specifications: 30 liters per 400 km when driving at a speed of 70-130 km/h. How much fuel it will burn after running-in is a question.

Incomprehensible lightness

And although at times the traction of the Kia Cerato engine is not enough, I have only seen such a character in a car from Honda (Civic, Jazz) - the car seems weightless, light, like a toy, although it weighs 1236 kg. I still haven’t figured out where this pleasant feeling comes from. Even powerful cars with turbocharged engines don’t feel that way (you still feel like you’re driving a fast, but heavy, inert car) - which means it’s not a matter of engine power. Lighter cars also behave differently – which means it’s not a matter of weight. In settings? Maybe.

For the revolution in the design of all Cerato, as well as other models of this brand, we should thank the famous designer Peter Schreyer, whom KIA bought from VW in 2006 and who today has become not only the chief designer of the brand, but also the president of Kia Motors.

When preparing this model, the Koreans also reworked its technical components - it received new, more powerful engines, a modern automatic transmission, and a less complex and expensive to maintain rear suspension.

The range of modifications of the hero of our material has changed a little: as before, he has a classic sedan in his arsenal, but the unpopular hatchback of his predecessor has been replaced by a stylish coupe. It looks especially bright and dynamic - an aggressive front bumper, a rear diffuser with two dual “trunks” of the exhaust system, doors without traditional frames, red inserts on the dashboard and door panels, aluminum pedals, etc.

Thanks to the bright design of the Cerato Koup coupe, it has become widespread in Ukraine.

By the way, unlike its predecessor, copies of which officially sold in Ukraine were assembled using the large-knot method at the Lutsk Automobile Plant, the hero of our material is a purebred “Korean”.

KIA Cerato body

As operating experience has shown, in general, Cerato bodies have good corrosion resistance. The only weak point is the frames of the rear doors (sometimes rust appears under the black arakal glued to them). The chrome coating on the radiator grille and brand emblems is not durable - due to sandblasting and aggressive chemicals at car washes, it often peels off. A feature of later versions of Cerato, equipped with mirrors with turn signal repeaters, is that their LED bulbs come only complete with the lampshade (previously, the lamp with the filament could be replaced separately and, accordingly, it was much cheaper).

The plastic trim of the interior is beautiful in appearance, but upon tactile contact it turns out to be hard. Fortunately, it is not creaky. Early versions used a two-color finish on the dashboard and door panels (black top and beige bottom), which in practice turned out to be less wear-resistant - it scratches easily. On other versions the quality of the plastic is better. As for the seat trim, the rag upholstery is less wear-resistant - over time it becomes greasy and shiny, but the leather upholstery wrinkles excessively. The best quality was the combination of leather and cloth (versions from recent years of production). There are also complaints about the leather trim of the steering wheel and gearshift lever, as well as decorative silver inserts on the steering wheel, gearbox console and door handles - they often peel off.

In general, the interior equipment works without problems, the only weak point is the block of power window buttons on the driver's door. Problems with the branded key were also noted (see photo “Weak points”).

The sedan is more practical and roomier than the coupe - it is designed to transport five crew members. Compared to the previous generation, the wheelbase of the model has increased by 40 mm and this has made it possible to “carve out” more free space inside. So, if people of average height sit in front, passengers of the same build will very comfortably fit behind them in the second row. The low central tunnel of the body contributes to the ease of entry for the middle passenger.

The back seat of the sedan (pictured) can accommodate three people of average build. The low central tunnel of the body contributes to the ease of entry for the middle passenger. There is noticeably less space in the compartment.

But in the compartment there is noticeably less space: the roof will hang over your head, and the width will be cramped for three people (according to the passport data, this car is designed to carry four people). In addition, boarding and disembarking from the “gallery” is akin to a gymnastic exercise and can only be accomplished by young people, for whom, in fact, this modification is aimed. There is also less free space for legs, apparently the designers gave it up in favor of the cargo compartment, which in the coupe is 25 liters more than in the sedan - 440 liters versus 415 liters, respectively. Although we note that according to these indicators, the trunks of both modifications are among the smallest. In both versions, folding the rear seatbacks does not create a flat cargo area.

A curious feature of the sedan is that it is inferior to the coupe in terms of trunk volume - 440 liters versus 415 liters, respectively. Although, according to these indicators, the trunks of both modifications are among the smallest among competitors. For example, the Ford Focus sedans offer 465 liters, the Renault Megane - 520 liters, but the Chevrolet Lacetti - only 405 liters.

KIA Cerato engines

The Cerato powertrain line consists only of gasoline engines. In total, the model has three engines, although only two versions were officially sold in Ukraine: 1.6- and 2.0-liter. Under the hood of sedans there is often a smaller engine, while in coupes, due to its more active temperament, on the contrary, there is a larger one. There is also a certain distribution among gearboxes - Ukrainian consumers more often bought sedans with manual transmissions, but coupes with automatic transmissions.

According to the mechanics of the branded service station, in practice, both Cerato engines have proven to be quite reliable and, unlike the KIA Cee’d, no characteristic problems were identified in them. Let us remind you that a relative with a 2.0 liter engine had problems with the corrugation of the exhaust system and the electric fan motors of the cooling system.

There are no comments on the operation of the CVVT variable valve timing system and individual ignition coils. To increase the reliability of the timing system, it uses a reliable metal chain, the durability of which also has no complaints. The cylinder heads of all engines are not equipped with hydraulic compensators. At the same time, there are no clear deadlines for adjusting the thermal clearances of the valves and, according to mechanics, this procedure is performed, as a rule, only when repairing the head.

Under the hood of sedans (pictured) there is often a smaller 1.6-liter engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Cerato engines, especially when paired with an automatic, have a good fuel appetite: in the urban cycle, the 1.6 unit consumes about 9 liters per “hundred”, and 2.0 liters - under 11 liters. Therefore, to save money during operation, many Cerato owners install gas equipment. As practice has shown, its engines operate quite normally on gas. At the same time, for durable and, most importantly, trouble-free operation, it is necessary to adjust the valve clearances every 30-50 thousand km - otherwise they may burn out. However, this work is quite labor-intensive and costs about 5 thousand UAH at a company service station (including grinding of the adjusting cups).

Two types of gearboxes were intended for the Cerato: 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic (on cars of the first years of production) or 6-speed (on more recent copies). As operating experience has shown, all “Korean” gearboxes have proven themselves to be reliable and no problems have been identified in them. Their maintenance consists only of regular oil changes - every 90 thousand km. At the same time, let us remind you that in the “mechanical” KIA Cee’d there were problems with the release bearing, and in the “automatic” – with the solenoids of the gearbox lever, the valve body and the electrical connector for connecting the ECU.

KIA Cerato suspension

Unlike its predecessor and sister KIA Cee’d, the designers of the second generation Cerato simplified its rear suspension - the complex and expensive to repair “multi-link” was replaced with a simpler and more unpretentious semi-independent torsion beam. But in front, as before, an independent McPherson with anti-roll bar is used.

The weak point of the cars of the first years of production was the short-lived dust guards of the front struts - they came off and knocked while driving. Later, the manufacturer modernized these parts and after replacement, as a rule, there are no problems with them.

The Cerato's serviceable suspension is moderately stiff – it shakes noticeably on bumps, but the chassis “digests” them confidently, sending only dull slaps of tires into the cabin.

Most often on our roads you will have to change the stabilizer bushings - every 40-60 thousand km, but the struts can withstand a little more - 60-80 thousand km. Further intervention will be required for runs of 100-120 thousand km - at this time the silent blocks of the front levers, ball joints and support bearings of the struts become unusable.

Compared to the front end, the rear semi-independent suspension has proven itself to be “eternal” - the mechanics who advised us did not recall cases of replacing the “rubber bands” of the beam. The only remark concerns the rear springs on sedans - with frequent loading they sag. The coupe uses other stiffer springs and no similar problems were noted with them. Although, due to their active temperament, they are, as a rule, not used for frequent transportation of heavy loads. When replacing sagging springs, mechanics advise installing more durable coupe springs.

All Cerato steering is equipped with power steering. On our roads, after a mileage of 80-100 thousand km, the rack bushing breaks, which is manifested by a characteristic knocking sound when driving over uneven surfaces. Fortunately, the unit is repairable. Steering rods become unusable a little earlier - at 70-90 thousand km, but the tips “last” longer - 100-120 thousand km.

But experts have no complaints about the Cerato brake system; you just need to remember to lubricate the caliper guides when replacing pads. Otherwise they may jam. However, this recommendation applies to all cars.

More powerful 2.0-liter versions of sedans released since 2011 can be easily distinguished from 1.6-liter ones by their chrome muffler tip (early versions were not equipped with such a device).

Resume "AC"

Under the expressive, and in the coupe, also dynamic appearance of the Cerato, there is a completely reliable technical filling, which, as Ukrainian operating experience has shown, turned out to be better than that of its closest related KIA. The only thing that can upset owners is the insufficiently high quality of finishing details. But is this the main thing?…..

Results of "AC"

Body and interior2.5 stars

Expressive design of sedans. Dynamic and stylish coupes. High quality upholstery made from a combination of leather and cloth. The low central floor tunnel allows the middle passenger to sit comfortably.

– Rust may appear on the frames of the rear doors, and the chrome coating on the radiator grille and brand emblems may peel off. Expensive replacement of lamps in turn signal repeaters (more recent copies). Low wear resistance of two-tone plastic trim and rag covering. Leather trim wrinkles quickly. The leather trim of the steering wheel and gearshift lever, silver inserts on the steering wheel, gearbox console and door handles often peel off. The buttons on the power window block are pressed through. The interior of coupes is cramped than sedans, and entry into the rear seats is awkward. Small trunks.

Engines4 stars

Trouble-free motors. Works well on gas.

– The range of engines is limited only to gasoline units. Paired with an automatic transmission, gasoline engines are quite voracious. For trouble-free operation on gas, engines require frequent adjustment of valve thermal clearances, and this procedure is labor-intensive and expensive.

Transmission5 stars

Reliable gearboxes.

Chassis and steering4 stars

The chassis is a bit harsh. Durable rear suspension. Problem-free brakes.

– Short-lived dust guards on the front pillars (cars from the first years of production). With frequent heavy loads, the rear springs of the sedan sag. The steering rack bushing breaks.

Weak spots KIA Cerato

The leather trim of the steering wheel and gear lever knob is not wear-resistant and will peel off over time.

In the branded central locking key fob, the body of the “miscarriage” key pin may break.

Due to frequent and sometimes careless use, the driver's window control button in the power window unit on the driver's door is pressed through.

  • The engine is noisy suspension not for bumps.
  • Tough suspension, the bumpers rattle on bumps, it can be done, but I try to move slowly over the bumps. Requires good gasoline, otherwise high consumption. It ranges from 6 highway, 8 city, at a good level even 92, to 8 highway 12 city.
  • A bit harsh suspension, a little imposing, maybe l/c coating, I don’t see it anymore
  • The front struts are knocking from the very beginning, the breakdowns are terrible, you can feel every joint on the road, the rear struts are not working at all because of them, the roll and deflection of the shock absorbers is short, so you can even feel small waves on the road swaying because on the waves the rear passengers hit their heads on the ceiling . but I solved these problems, I started with the rear shock absorbers, strengthened them by installing springs from Lada cars and added one more strut on each side, in general I made them double, now the car is off the track rooted to the spot, comparing with the Toyota Avensis suspension has become almost identical, I can’t get enough of it
  • Suspension It works a little loud on both “Forte” and “Cerato”.
  • suspension shaking and noisy! noisy! if essentially, then this is current suspension I don’t like it, but otherwise everything is expected from this class!
  • squeaks, noise, suspension a bit harsh: lowered the wheels by 0.2 atm and it got better! and over time suspension it became softer, apparently the gas came out of the struts a little and softened
  • (loud) suspension, swimming along the highway or (catching the steering wheel) - not the correct design, the alteration will cost around 20-25 thousand rubles.
  • sound insulation is not very good, the door trim rattles when the radio is loud enough, sensitive ABS, hard suspension(but I’m already used to it), with the first frosts the windshield burst in 3 places (I think it was a glass defect) no matter how many times I asked, no one ever had this happen
  • poor sound insulation, hard suspension
  • short-stroke and short suspension behind you, this will cause your passengers to make a hole in the headliner with their heads
  • Weak paintwork, hard suspension(the perception of rigidity is a matter of habit), scratched plastic doors.
  • Either the windshield or the panel creaks (from time to time), noise level is 3+, suspension is fraught with danger when riding on a washboard. The paintwork is rather weak (when washing the house you need to be extremely careful so as not to spoil your mood with new small scratches), although a little polishing will eliminate everything. The ground clearance is not great.
  • -Hard suspension-Ground clearance is low -Weak paintwork. I caught the right door a little, peeled off the paint, and now that place is starting to peel off.
  • The rear beam would be better if it had a multi-link suspension like on Side.
  • Terribly squeaky, in winter it’s even rattling with crickets suspension added - no sound insulation
  • Weak suspension
  • A little soft suspension
  • Rear suspension"loose" In 5th gear (not to mention 6th) it gets stuck
  • Rough suspension.
  • suspension
  • Terrible suspension,
  • weak paintwork and windshield, hard suspension.
  • Rear suspension
  • Lack of a rain sensor, paintwork is really a complete waste (the car is a year old, the roof is chipped and rusting, they said it is not a warranty case.....), rear suspension complete crap..... (breaks through twice)
  • besides the appearance and interior volume, there is one big minus, suspension- the tin engine is probably not a pig but a pig eating incredibly (slop) fuel! 6 speed automatic transmission! metal is a fabulously clever idea to use tin cans... I have a thicker roof on my house. a child can leave a bruise with his finger! beam - the collective farm will help. The driver's seat and next to it come from the Muscovite 412. I won't say anything about the kirzush leather. handling is something.
  • Suspension for women or calm men. Rolls and shifts when cornering.
  • Valkaya suspension
  • Weak suspension
  • The windshield tightens, the engine is noisy above 3000 rpm, the stove is also noisy, after 90,000 miles crickets appeared on the front panel, front suspension
  • back suspension
  • Suspension rather weak!
  • Rear suspension.
  • The ground clearance is a couple more centimeters higher, suspension very soft, could be a little tougher.
  • low harsh suspension steering wheel adjustment leaves much to be desired
  • Rough rear suspension
  • Soft suspension
  • suspension for two people (weak springs and shock absorbers), glass fogging in winter and summer when it rains
  • Very noisy panel, a bit harsh suspension
  • Suspension comfortable, but moves are small
  • Noisy engine, poor sound insulation, not very stable suspension.
  • Hard suspension. Weak noise.
  • short-travel rear suspension, a bit expensive for maintenance after the exchange rate jump
  • I previously wrote about the rear suspension, which breaks when 1-2 people are sitting in the back. I would like to add, I’m too lazy to write a whole review. My patience was enough for 15,000 km. Then, after reading a lot on the Internet, I ordered standard rear reinforced springs from Tehnoressor. Price 2700 rubles, 300 rubles delivery, 3 weeks of waiting, 1000 rubles for replacing springs and..... I'm happy as an elephant, the problem is gone. Rear suspension It has become elastic, the butt does not “fall in”. I left the old shock absorbers, they suit me.
  • Suspension and sound insulation
  • too smooth suspension, noisy, high consumption in the city
  • Suspension especially the rear springs. very weak
  • weak suspension
  • Hard suspension against Toyota. Weak front stabilizer bushings.
  • Harsh and noisy suspension for the city (there is no price for it on the highway), soundproofing of the interior!
  • Suspension harsh.
