How to make a device for washing injectors. Do-it-yourself injector flushing: step-by-step instructions

Most modern cars are equipped with a fuel injection system using nozzles. The operating principle of such a fuel system is very simple, but is vulnerable to various fuel contaminants. Therefore, periodically there is a need to flush the injectors and the entire fuel line.

This system works by constantly maintaining pressure through the fuel pump, which is about three atmospheres. And the nozzles are quick-acting electric valves with a fine-mesh spray mesh. When voltage is applied to the injector, the solenoid valve is activated and fuel enters the engine cylinder, and the metal mesh creates a special torch of fuel for maximum atomization and improved mixing with oxygen. Therefore, a dirty mesh causes deterioration in vehicle performance.

Causes of injector contamination

It is worth noting that the reason for plaque on the injector mesh and on the needle valve itself is not only contaminants in the fuel, but also substances contained in gasoline or diesel fuel. These are all possible tars, olefins, wax and other components. Over time, these substances settle not only on the inner surface of the injectors, but throughout the entire fuel system.

Subsequently, the injector loses its reference values, which leads to improper mixing of the fuel mixture, and subsequently to malfunctions of the power unit. The fact is that the nozzle, due to plaque, may not close the valve hermetically, thereby constantly letting fuel through, which increases consumption and deteriorates the fuel mixture due to incorrect proportions and inadequate mixing.

Also, the shape of the sprayed fuel may change, which can lead to a decrease in the supplied volume, and in some cases, due to poor atomization, the fuel does not burn completely. This significantly reduces the engine power, causing interruptions and failures in its operation.

Please note that any computer diagnostics of the car should be carried out only after cleaning the injector. This will eliminate the influence of the fuel system on engine operation and eliminate false errors in the computer.

How to clean injectors

There are two methods for cleaning injectors: cleaning with ultrasound and cleaning with special cleaning liquids.

Each method has its positive and negative sides. For example, ultrasonic cleaning is carried out only on removed injectors and only if there are no ceramic elements in the design of the solenoid valve. The removed nozzles are immersed in an ultrasonic bath filled with a special liquid, and under the influence of sound, all particles of deposits fly off from the body of the part. But the fact is that under the same influence, all ceramic elements are destroyed to the state of dust, and such a nozzle can no longer be restored.

But there are much more methods for cleaning injectors using liquid cleaners, and can be used both on a running engine and on a removed one. But the liquid used must be able to dissolve all elements of deposits, so it is worth using proven means.

It is worth noting that at home, it is impossible to carry out ultrasonic cleaning without the presence of special baths. In that case. If you have one, then most likely you know how to use it, and instructions for removing injectors from a car can be found on the Internet.

Therefore, let’s move on to a detailed consideration of cleaning injectors using liquids.

Cleaning the injector with the engine running

At some technical inspection stations, there is a special stand that is connected to the fuel supply to the injectors and the return line. This device independently creates pressure in the system and uses gasoline to start the engine. After the preparatory measures, the car is started with an “artificial fuel supply device”, while the injectors operate in the usual mode under the control of the car’s electronic control system. But the stand regulates the fuel supply and at the right moment switches to the supply of cleaning fluid.

Another method, the simplest and least time-consuming. For this method, special fuel additives are used, and the car is used as usual. At the same time, the additive, diluted in the required proportion with the fuel, effectively cleans all deposits in the fuel system, including in the injectors. Here, too, it is necessary to use exclusively proven brands and specific products to achieve maximum benefit from this action.

The main disadvantage of the method of cleaning the injector using additives is that this additive will not only dissolve dirt in the hoses and injectors, but will also raise all the dirt in the gas tank, of which there is a lot. In principle, there is nothing wrong with this, but you will have to replace the fuel filter after cleaning.

Disadvantages and advantages of cleaning while the engine is running

Although this method is the simplest, it is not deprived of efficiency. But the real situation is that the cleaning process is completely uncontrollable. Consequently, the car owner cannot see the real condition of the injectors and the quality of their work. In some situations, the contamination may be so strong that the nozzle must be replaced, but there is no way to understand and see this.

But there is also a positive aspect to this method. It lies in the fact that in the process of cleaning the injectors, intensive cleaning of the valves and cylinders occurs. Since the additives contain all the necessary elements that effectively dissolve any contaminants from petroleum products.

Washing injectors with removal from the car

This method has several differences that significantly increase the effectiveness of the entire procedure. But the main advantage is full control over the process and a clear result of cleaning.

The fact is that by gaining visual access to the injectors, we can fully assess the condition of the mechanism and the amount of deposits. And also decide on the advisability of cleaning or replacing with a new one. Because there are so many strong contaminants that cannot be cleaned and must be replaced with new ones.

Another positive point is the possibility of visual observation of the correct shape of the sprayed fuel torch. This parameter is also important for the normal functioning of the motor. And this provides a good opportunity to test all injectors for uniform fuel consumption.

Washing the injector on the bench

This type of cleaning is very often used at service stations. For this purpose, a special but structurally simple stand is used. Allowing you to simultaneously clean all injectors, observe the shape of the torch and check the uniformity of fuel dosing by all injectors.

The stand design itself can be seen in the photograph. It consists of several flasks into which nozzles are inserted into the upper part. At the same time, all nozzles are supplied with the same cleaning liquid and a simultaneous signal to open the valve.

This allows you to visually compare the shape of the jet of sprayed fuel, the tightness of the injectors and compare fuel consumption, which should not exceed a difference of 5%. If the fuel consumption of one of the injectors differs by more than the permissible norm, up or down, then it must be replaced. Naturally, all comparisons must be made after cleaning.

The cleaning itself is carried out at the same stand using special cleaning agents.

How to clean the injectors yourself

To clean the injector yourself, there are many homemade devices on the Internet. They vary in complexity from the most primitive to professional units with process automation. In this article, we will look at several simple ways to wash injectors yourself, which do not require any special financial costs and can be done in a garage environment.

For all proposed designs. You can use the power supply connection diagram below. It is perfect for carrying out the procedure at home.

Please note that when flushing the injector, flammable substances are used, which are sprayed using a nozzle. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you follow all fire safety measures and be concerned about your own health. The procedure is best carried out outdoors, positioned in such a way that the wind blows away from you, relative to the nozzle. Also, any interactions with flammable substances should be carried out away from open flames, hot surfaces or sparking electrical contacts.

The first method of flushing the injector

For this method, we need to use an old but working fuel pump, fuel hoses and a suitable container for liquid.

Before connecting the electricity, the entire structure is assembled, or rather, the injector is connected to the outlet of the fuel pump via a fuel hose. Then, the pump is immersed in the liquid and turned on for a short period of time. This will create pressure in the hose. Afterwards, voltage is applied to the injector, and the cleaning liquid escapes from the nozzle through the created pressure in the fuel hose.

This procedure is carried out until the nozzle is completely cleaned and the shape of the spray torch is normalized.

The second method of flushing the injector

The second method can be used if there is no spare fuel pump. For this method. You need to use a compressor or pump, a modified plastic bottle and a fuel hose.

To obtain the correct design, you will have to spend time modifying the plastic receiver, which will contain part of the cleaning liquid and create pressure by pumping air. For this. We need the bottle itself, two nipples for tubeless wheels, and a sealant to properly close the plug and secure the nipples.

After filling the bottle with flushing liquid by about a quarter, a fuel hose with a nozzle is connected to one nipple, and with the help of the other, air is pumped to two or three atmospheres. The design itself is shown below in the photograph for a more detailed understanding of the design.

The third method of flushing the injector

The sledding method is the fastest and easiest; it involves using an aerosol can of carburetor cleaner. The fact is that it contains all the necessary cleaning elements that can cope with any contamination from petroleum products.

The idea itself is to connect the nozzle to the sprayer using a hose, and blow the aerosol liquid to clean the carburetor through the nozzle, in which case all the dirt will fly out in the first seconds. With this method, the cleaning process is perfectly controlled and the shape of the spray liquid is clearly visible.

Gotovchik Dmitry, 2017

Most owners of cars with injection engines begin to worry if the car behaves suspiciously. The first alarm bells are the engine shaking strangely at idle. Popping noises are heard and the tachometer needle may jerk up and down randomly. Then you feel that when driving the car no longer accelerates so quickly, and the fuel from the tank seems to evaporate. Many continue to drive and put up with the unsatisfactory condition of the car. It’s worse when the engine shakes so much that vibrations go through the car body. Such a malfunction is difficult not to notice. But experienced motorists know that flushing the injector would quickly eliminate the problems and bring the engine into a healthy state.
The cause of engine malfunctions is contamination of the fuel supply system. Dust, sand, and water that enter the tank are easily retained by the fuel filter. But after replacing it, the situation may not change. Then we can confidently diagnose contamination of the injectors and intake manifold.

When is injector flushing necessary?

How do contaminants appear? First, resins settle on the engine parts; this is not burnt fuel and its impurities. The sediment then oxidizes and becomes a hard layer on the parts. If you refuse to clean the injection, then problems in the operation of the engine will only increase: high wear of mechanisms will appear, increased formation of coke and soot, the catalyst will experience excessive load, fail, etc.
Even a thin varnish layer of 0.005 mm reduces the efficiency of injectors by 20% or more. The nature of the spray torch changes: its shape and size. The nozzles lose their tightness, causing the injection control to malfunction. As a result, we observe dips at idle and increased fuel consumption.
The quality of fuel, extreme weather conditions, and long periods of sitting in traffic jams make the process of pollution formation lightning fast.
You should know that there are other possible problems: fuel filter, pump, fuel intake screen. These dirty parts interfere with the normal operation of the engine. Prevention must be carried out every 20-30 thousand km.
You can clean the engine yourself. To do this, you will need special equipment and liquid for flushing injector nozzles. Choosing the right product is easy. Today, products from the Russian manufacturer LAVR and European products are popular on the market. Before choosing a drug, watch the video to see how the compositions differ.

How to wash an injector with your own hands

Injector cleaning products effectively remove deposits from the system. To carry out the procedure, a special pneumatic station is required. Such equipment can be freely purchased in Russia. Today there are pneumatic stations of domestic and Chinese production. If there is no need to constantly use such equipment, the injector can be washed at car repair shops that offer the service. The price will range from 1,500 to 4,000 rubles, depending on the car and region of residence.
You can try to assemble the station yourself. At the same time, you should know that washing with homemade stations is dangerous. Flushing fluids ignite more easily than fuel. Therefore, avoid liquid leakage. If the liquid gets onto the exhaust manifold of a warm engine, it will instantly ignite. Such a procedure can cost you not only your car, but your life and health.

Required injector cleaning kit:

  • fuel line hose (1.5 m);
  • clamps (2 pieces);
  • cylinder with pressure gauge 1 l;
  • hook for hanging the cylinder;
  • line short-circuit hose (to plug the return line);
  • adapters for connecting to the fuel rail;
  • compressor;
  • 1 liter of fluid per engine up to 2 liters.

When the station is connected, the system looks like a hospital IV. Cleaning injectors does not require much experience. The main thing is to strictly follow the instructions for connecting and flushing. Here is a list of steps on how to mount the station for work.

Installation of a washing station

It is not necessary to change the oil and spark plugs after using LAVR injector flushing fluid. So immediately start the engine and do a test drive. In the very first kilometers of the journey, improvements in engine performance will be felt.

How to choose LAVR flushing

LAVR offers two flushes for gasoline engines and one for diesel engines.

In order not to wait for symptoms of engine malfunction to appear, schedule maintenance every 20-30,000 km. We recommend washing it before the winter season - for a confident start in cold weather, or in the spring - to increase power and dynamics.

The fuel system is one of the most important components of a car's power unit. Experienced car owners know that if it works correctly, the engine will last a long time and fuel consumption will be low. One of the key elements of the fuel system is, or, as they are also called, injectors. Over time, the injectors become clogged and stop functioning effectively. Car enthusiasts often wonder why and why do they need to clean the injector on their car with their own hands? In answering this question, it is necessary to understand what role the nozzle plays and what it is.

Design

An injector or nozzle is a device through which fuel is injected. The main task of the injector is to atomize fuel to form a fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber. Depending on the method of fuel atomization, injectors can be divided into:

  • mechanical;
  • hydraulic;
  • piezoelectric;
  • electromagnetic.

How do injectors work?

Their principle of operation does not differ much. High pressure fuel enters the top of the injector. Next, passing through the inside of the device, the valve opens and fuel is sprayed. Accordingly, the more evenly the fuel is sprayed, the better the fuel-air mixture will be. But during operation, the holes through which spraying occurs become clogged and clogged: contamination makes it difficult to spray fuel correctly, which subsequently leads to problems and malfunctions. That is why it is necessary to clean the injector.

But in service centers it can cost a hefty sum. With some knowledge, you can clean the injectors at home, without resorting to the expensive services of qualified specialists. This article provides information on how to clean the injector with your own hands.

Signs of a clogged injector

To understand when to clean fuel injectors, you need to understand what the distinctive signs and indicators of a clogged injector are.

As a rule, experts recommend cleaning at least once every 30 thousand kilometers. But it is worth understanding that the condition of each car is individual, and each car owner has a different attitude towards servicing the power unit. Therefore, it is not always worth adhering to certain regulations, since cleaning the injector nozzles may be necessary much earlier. Among the main signs indicating the need to clean the injectors are the following:

  • difficulties with the power unit
  • floating idle speed
  • noticeable reduction in power and traction
  • jerks during acceleration
  • increased fuel consumption

Such signs indicate clogged injectors. But the symptoms cannot definitely indicate a faulty injector. Sometimes this indicates problems in other components and assemblies. To make a “verdict”, it is recommended to go for car diagnostics or conduct a visual inspection of the element that causes suspicion. As a rule, the listed symptoms do not appear immediately, but after some time. Especially if the car’s mileage is close to 100 thousand km or has exceeded this mark.

How to clean the injector

There are various ways to bring the injectors into proper shape. Each car owner individually chooses one method or another. Factors when choosing a method may include:

  • availability of free time;
  • technical capabilities.

Also, when choosing, it is worth considering the degree of performance of the device. There are 3 main degrees of injector contamination:

  1. Minor. They practically do not affect the operation of the engine. The only sign may be a slight increase in fuel consumption.
  2. Moderate contamination. In this case, the signs are most pronounced. The engine will start up. There will be a noticeable loss of power and traction of the vehicle, and fuel consumption will seriously increase.
  3. Contamination in which the efficiency of the injectors will be lost by 40-50%. In this case, the engine will literally jump out of the engine compartment. One of the cylinders may stop idling. In this case, it is simply impossible to delay cleaning the injectors.

In order to clean the injectors with your own hands, you need to purchase a special injector cleaning agent that will remove all contaminants.

How to clean the injector yourself

Let's look at the existing methods by which you can clean your car's injectors yourself.

Using special means

This method is the most common among car enthusiasts. To perform the procedure you need to prepare:

  • flushing liquid in aerosol cans;
  • a small hose, 10-15 centimeters in size;
  • several clamps;
  • charger with a voltage of 12 Volts: (this voltage is enough to open the injector valve);
  • toggle switch or button with two contacts;
  • terminals for connecting contacts;
  • container for draining liquid.

Having prepared all the listed available means, you can begin the cleaning procedure:

  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. To remove the injectors, remove the throttle body and manifold. Then disconnect the injector chips and all other hoses. After this, the fuel rail will be visible.
  • It is secured with three bolts that need to be unscrewed. Next, lift the ramp and remove the injectors.
  • Build an electrical circuit that will serve as a kind of motor for opening the injector valves.
  • Take a piece of hose and attach it to the cylinder with flushing liquid on one side using a clamp, and on the other side to the top of the nozzle. The bottom of the injector is placed in a previously prepared container, which will be filled with flushing liquid.
  • Strip the wire from the charger using a knife. Connect the red (positive) wire to the button, and attach the blue (negative) wire to the injector contact.
  • To check the functionality of the assembled circuit, you need to power our charger from an outlet. If everything is done correctly, you will hear a characteristic click. This means that the injector valve has opened.
  • Let's begin the washing procedure. By pressing on the aerosol with liquid, we create pressure in the hose without opening the nozzle valve. It is worth noting that the clamps with which the hose is secured must be tightened very tightly.
  • Now let's turn on the circuit. The nozzle opens and flushing liquid is sprayed into the bottle. This procedure is repeated a certain number of times, then you can proceed to the next nozzle.
  • After finishing the flushing, it is recommended to replace the injector O-rings. To complete the procedure, return them to the fuel rail and reassemble in reverse order.

The method consists of washing the injectors using special equipment, which is only possible in service centers. The main advantage of such washing is that the nozzles are cleaned not individually, but as a whole in tandem. This allows you to compare spray uniformity and achieve greater efficiency.

Cleaning without dismantling

For this method, you will need a cylinder with which you can wash each nozzle without removing it. An ordinary plastic container can play its role. A small hole is drilled in its lower part, to which the nipple of the compressor or air pump will be connected. A hose is inserted into the upper part of the container, where the lid is located. Flushing liquid is placed in the cylinder. Having previously disconnected the fuel pump, the cylinder hose is connected to the fuel rail. Then start the engine and turn on the compressor. After the cylinder is empty, reassemble it.

The method has a number of disadvantages:

  • when cleaning injectors without removing them, it is impossible to assess their external condition;
  • the method requires the participation of a second person who will start the engine and maintain speed so that the car does not stall when operating without a fuel pump.

Using Ultrasound

The fourth method is the most effective, but also the most difficult to use. The nozzles are washed using ultrasonic waves. Self-cleaning is carried out in an ultrasonic bath, which can be assembled manually.

Chemistry.

The market for automotive chemicals for cleaning injectors is quite extensive. When answering the question of what is the best way to clean the injectors, it is worth considering the most well-known means that allow you to clean the injectors with your own hands:

  • Liqui Moly is a universal product and a good option for cleaning in garage conditions. It does not have an aggressive composition and cleans very delicately, but does not completely remove carbon deposits. It's inexpensive.
  • Wynn's is a product with a very aggressive composition. Perfectly removes dirt and deposits of any degree. Suitable for cars whose production date is not earlier than 2002.
  • Carbon Clean - this product produces a gentle but effective cleaning. The liquid can be called something between competitors Liqui Moly and Wynn’s.
  • Laurel is a product similar in composition to Wynn’s wash, but more expensive, so it is used much less frequently.

Injector prevention

To keep the injector in working condition, you need to monitor the behavior of your car. In addition, it is important to provide timely and high-quality service. Good fuel will allow the injectors to work for a long time and reduce their cleaning to once every 30,000 km.

Manufacturers also offer special additives as a preventative measure. This method is the easiest. What is the essence of the process? An additive in the form of a liquid is poured into the fuel tank. Such products can clean not only the injectors, but also the fuel system as a whole. However, this method has negative sides. Deposits and carbon deposits purified by such an additive enter the fuel and begin their journey through the fuel system. This can lead to mechanical contamination of the injector. This flushing method is effective only if you are confident that the gas tank is clean. Otherwise, further contamination of the fuel system may occur. It must be remembered that the quality of Russian gasoline often leaves much to be desired, so it is recommended to monitor the degree of contamination of injectors more often than according to regulations.

Summarizing the above, it becomes clear that the injectors can be cleaned with your own hands. The procedure is a simple process, but requires knowledge of some nuances: by following the instructions described above, you will save money and time.

Do-it-yourself washing of injectors can be done without removing them from the engine or after dismantling them. The quality of washing injectors with your own hands using both methods is approximately the same. The only difference is that after washing without dismantling, it is advisable to change the oil. In addition, by washing dismantled injectors, you can evaluate the result of your work.

Signs of injector contamination

  • Difficulty starting the engine.
  • Unstable engine operation at idle.
  • High fuel consumption.
  • Detonation.
  • Reduced engine power.

Of course, the appearance of these symptoms does not only occur when the injectors are dirty, so do not rush to change them. First, check how they spray fuel or try cleaning them yourself.

According to statistics, the injector operates for at least 120 thousand km of vehicle mileage. And for its smooth operation, it is recommended to wash it at least four times during this time.

The intensity of injector contamination can be divided into three stages:

  1. Reducing throughput by 5-7%. The increase in fuel consumption is no more than 3 liters per 100 km.
  2. Reducing throughput by 10-15%. Uneven engine idling, muttering exhaust sound. Noticeable drop in power. Detonation, acrid smell of exhaust gases. Increased fuel consumption by more than 3 liters per 100 km.
  3. Reducing throughput by 20-50%. The engine runs intermittently, a couple of cylinders may not idle. Shots in the air filter due to a lean mixture. The signs of the first two stages intensify significantly.

Washing without dismantling

Of course, you can wash the injector yourself by simply adding a detergent additive to the fuel tank, but the method described below is more effective.

To wash the injectors with your own hands without removing them from the engine, you need to make a device to supply flushing fluid to them under pressure. For this you will need:

  1. Fuel filter.
  2. Two clamps.
  3. 1.5 m hose. This should be the fuel supply hose for the car. Then it will fit the inner diameter and will not be destroyed by the flushing liquid.
  4. Two liter plastic bottle.
  5. Drill diameter 13 mm.
  6. Car compressor for inflating wheels.
  7. Two valves for tubeless wheels.

Making the device: Drill Ø 13 mm holes in the bottom and cap of the bottle. Insert nipples for tubeless wheels into them. Unscrew the nipple from the valve in the lid. Then put the hose on it and secure it with a clamp. Connect the fuel filter inlet to the other end of the hose and also secure it with a clamp. The device for washing injectors with your own hands is ready.

To flush the injectors without removing them from the engine, first start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. After this, you need to reduce the pressure in the fuel line. To do this, disconnect the power or ground from the fuel pump and start the engine. When the pressure in the gas line equals atmospheric pressure, the engine will stop working. Now remove the fuel line hose from the metal tube attached to the body of the car. Insert the fuel filter outlet of the injector cleaner into it and tighten the clamp on the edge of the hose. Remove the cap from the bottle and pour injector cleaner into it. Screw the plug back on and shade it. Place the compressor inflator hose onto the valve in the bottom of the bottle. Hang the bottle on the open hood with the neck down. Turn on the compressor and create a pressure of about 3 kg/cm 2 inside the bottle. Now that flushing is supplied to the injectors instead of gasoline, you need to start the engine. It will run on it like it runs on gasoline. To flush the injectors, you need to burn about a liter of flushing fluid. After 15 minutes of idling the engine, you need to turn off the engine and wait 15 minutes to allow the clogs to get as wet as possible. Then start the engine and burn off the liquid.

While washing is in progress, you need to monitor the pressure in the bottle, and when it decreases, turn on the compressor. Above 3 atm. There is no need to increase the pressure in the bottle. When the flushing in the bottle ends and the engine stops, you need to dismantle the flushing system and restore the standard engine power circuit. After this, you should change the oil and oil filter. This must be done because part of the flushing fluid will not burn in the cylinders, so it will be removed from the cylinder walls by oil scraper rings and drain into the sump, diluting the oil. Sometimes, after cleaning the injector with your own hands in this way, the spark plugs fail and have to be replaced.

Washing after dismantling

To do this you will need: two cans of carburetor cleaner, an electric bell button, insulated wires, a 12 V 21 W light bulb (for example, from a turn signal light), an injection syringe and a roll of PVC tape, two terminals suitable for the injector contacts . The syringe must be selected in such a size that the inlet part of your nozzle with the sealing ring fits tightly into it. A syringe with a volume of 2-3 cm 3 is often suitable.

Connect the tube from the can to the nozzle of the syringe, and wrap the joint with electrical tape.

Attach the tube to the can, press its valve and the electric button. Cleaning liquid will come out of the sprayer. Continue flushing until the spray is fine and the pattern is wide. If soaking and rinsing with your own hands does not bring the desired result, then the deposits on the sprayers are too dense and cannot be chemically cleaned with your own hands. Then you need to use an ultrasonic bath for cleaning.

Flushing the injector and nozzles is not an easy task even for an experienced motorist, not to mention beginners. During operation, small particles and various kinds of deposits constantly accumulate in the fuel system of a car, so the injectors, being the most vulnerable to all kinds of chemical compounds, often become clogged. Low-quality fuel plays an important role, the use of which greatly worsens the situation. In such cases, you need to wash the injector and nozzles without removing them yourself.

Despite all the advantages, the injector quickly becomes clogged when using low-quality fuel for a long time, which reduces engine efficiency. This is the main drawback of this element of the fuel system. Then the question of flushing the injector arises.

Note! Experts recommend cleaning every 20,000 km. But the frequency may vary depending on the quality of the fuel used and the design features of the injection system.

There are a number of signs that indicate the need to flush the fuel system elements. The most common ones include:

  • dirty spark plugs;
  • difficult engine starting;
  • uneven operation of the motor;
  • the appearance of smoky air from the muffler;
  • power reduction;
  • increase in fuel consumption (as a rule, consumption increases sharply).

These are not all the reasons, as there are many of them. Therefore, if you have the slightest doubt, you need to seek help from specialists to conduct a full diagnosis of your vehicle. The cost of this service may vary depending on the city in which the procedure will be performed.

Methods for washing without removal

There are two ways to clean injectors - pour a special product through the fuel tank or make a homemade device and fill it with injector cleaning fluid (the device is connected to the fuel system of the car engine). The first method is considered the easiest to implement, so it will not take much of your time.

A special cleaning agent is added every 15,000 km for preventive purposes. If the engine begins to operate abnormally, then this method is considered ineffective. In such cases, the second method is used. It is more difficult to implement, but using a homemade device is much more beneficial. They resort to the second method in advanced cases, when the injector is working with obvious problems or after 20,000 mileage or more. Now let's look at each method separately.

Through the tank of a car

You can buy the product used in this method at almost any auto store. The main purpose of such an additive is to clean the entire fuel system of the car. Based on the name of the method, it is easy to guess that the additive is poured through the neck into the fuel tank.

The procedure consists of several stages, the sequence of which must be followed:

  • replacing the fuel filter;
  • adding a cleaning agent to the fuel tank (one bottle should be enough);
  • operation of a vehicle (must travel at least 200 km);
  • repeated replacement of the filter element.

On a note! The calculation of the proportion of cleaning agent and gasoline must be observed accurately so as not to harm the engine. Detailed information can be found in the manufacturer's instructions.

On the market you can find cleaners from different manufacturers and at different prices, but not all of them can fully clean the injectors. Below are the best manufacturers whose products are truly effective.

If you find it difficult to choose a manufacturer, you should not focus on the cost of the product alone. It is better to seek help from a sales consultant who will tell you in detail about the product you are interested in and recommend the best option.

Using a special device

To make a washing device, you need to prepare some tools and materials, namely:

  • electric compressor;
  • drill with a diameter of 13 mm;
  • two-liter plastic bottle;
  • small hose with a diameter of 12 mm;
  • nipples and clamps – 2 pcs.;
  • fuel filter;
  • cleaning agent – 1 bottle.

Having prepared everything you need, you can start working. Below are step-by-step instructions, which, if followed correctly, will simplify the procedure for cleaning injectors.

Step 1. Carefully drill holes in both sides of the bottle (as in the photo).

Step 2. Connect the bottom of the plastic bottle with a full nipple. Make sure everything is sealed.

Step 3. Install the same nipple into the bottle cap, but the valve must be unscrewed to ensure smooth supply of liquid to the nozzles.

Step 4. Connect one end of the hose to the nipple on the bottle cap and secure it with a clamp. Connect the fuel filter to the lower hole and tighten it with a clamp.

Step 5. Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. Now you can connect the manufactured equipment. First, disconnect the special connector on the fuel line.

Step 6. After removing the fuel supply hose, place this chip on the fuel filter. The action should continue until a characteristic click appears.

Step 7 Fill the bottle with cleaning fluid and close it tightly.

Step 8 Hang the filled bottle somewhere on the open hood so that it is higher than the engine.

Then connect the compressor pump to the nipple at the bottom of the bottle to create optimal pressure inside the car's fuel system. Turn on the device and inflate the bottle to the 3 atm mark. During the process, the pressure in the bottle will drop, so it needs to be controlled by turning on the pump in a timely manner.

Once the desired pressure is achieved, start the engine and let it run for 10-15 minutes. Stop the engine for a while, and then start it again until the fluid is completely used up. As soon as the engine stops on its own, reduce the pressure in the bottle by unscrewing the cap.

Having understood the washing technology, you can make sure that it is not so complicated if we are talking only about the technical component. Selecting the necessary materials, preparing tools and creating a special device for the job is quite simple. To do this, you only need to have desire, free time and the skills to use conventional tools that are present in the driver’s kit.

But with the choice of a high-quality cleaning agent, things are much more difficult, because this is a responsible task. An incorrectly selected product can damage the injectors and make them unsuitable for further use. Such an error will entail not only temporary, but also additional financial costs. Therefore, it is important not to make mistakes when choosing.
