The best yokohama tires. Which tires are better: Yokohama or Kumho?

I drove these tires for three summer seasons. Made in Russia. Everyone bothers about the country, I didn’t, and I was right.
My total mileage is almost 45 thousand kilometers. The sidewall is not weak, the wear would be enough for another season if worn down to zero. I’m not used to wearing it down to zero; I’m taking kids.
On wet roads they work tolerably and are not too noisy. For summer tires my requirements are met.

Reliable tires with a strong sidewall, so you can drive into a hole and ride off-road, without fear that something will happen to it, I remember one friend cut me off very unsuccessfully, I had to sharply steer to the side of the road, and there was all sorts of rubbish and stones, I thought after sharp braking, you will have to put a spare tire on them, but no, it withstood everything, of course I would have to throw out my old slippers)

Hi all. I’ll write about my riding experience on the Yokohama Geolandar G95 225/55R17. I usually put the 17th radius on my Forester. I’ll say right away that the tires are not for everyone, they are soft, I like to drive the car on soft tires. The tire pressure is always 2.2-2.3. Steers smoothly. In a rut, the car does not dance; it moves in and out of it well. I don’t drive on wet asphalt over 120, and at that speed there was no hydroplaning, the road grip is good. I don’t drive in any deep mud, but in muddy conditions it drives just like on a wet road. I really like this tire and will continue to use it.

You know, I never thought that I would write reviews. but that's another matter. I'm extremely happy with the quality ride these wheels give me. I bought Nolorf Geolandar H/T G038. I drive an SUV. the price is biting, but I never skimp on quality tires - this is the safety of my family and me (about 40 thousand rubles). I travel 70 kilometers a day. child care, wife to work and himself to work and back. There are often ruts on the road, I drive in and out of the ruts very confidently. Even in the rain, driving in ruts is excellent. I think the wheels are quite wear-resistant because when I drove into holes on the asphalt at high speeds, everything was fine with the wheels. although thoughts about buying new ones flashed through. definitely worth the money

Geolandar G95A is ideal for cool summers and moderate autumns and springs, I changed into them in mid-March and last week (yesterday I changed into winter tires). On very hot days it becomes a little soft - this is the only nuance that I would like to note. Otherwise, excellent tires, I think that I paid exactly what they cost for it. The price is neither too high nor too low. The wear is all normal - I didn’t notice any critical abrasion... True, in the first couple of months of use I rubbed the side of the front left wheel, but this is all due to incorrect balancing, I have already corrected this at the tire shop. Outside the city and in the city I rode it normally, the tires are elastic, it rides smoothly, I don’t have to count every bump with my backside, the noise is also more or less noisy. but not stronger than others, with good noise reduction in the car you won’t even notice this rustling. I can recommend it for purchase.

Reliable tires are the basis of a car. Probably every driver is looking for those ideal tires to stop on. And not so long ago, high-quality Japanese manufacturers appeared on our market, which have already become loved by many. So which tires should you choose so as not to make a mistake?

ATTENTION! A completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption has been found! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also didn’t believe it until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

This brand belongs to a Japanese manufacturer that started its work in 1917. During this period, the company underwent significant transformation and entered the international market. Now Yokohama can be found here too.

How do Japanese tires differ from domestic ones and is there any point in overpaying? Yokohama is distinguished by the possibility of choosing tires for both different climates and for different cars (SUVs, cars, trucks). The company has such a wide range that even the most experienced driver can be confused at first. The price of tires makes it accessible to everyone, and you can buy tires from the manufacturer for both the summer and winter seasons, which allows you to make a choice.

The manufacturer claims that their tires are a lifestyle choice. We can agree with this, because it seems that the creators live by this project, constantly improving it and introducing new technologies. The Japanese never lag behind, and most often succeed in level with ours.

One of the features of Yokohama tires is good handling even at the highest speeds. The tire industry really shook after the manufacturer entered the market, because now an increasing number of motorists are choosing Japanese tires.

Yokohama tires are tested at world-famous testing grounds in different countries and climates before they are released into mass production, so their quality is at the same level.

It’s worth taking a closer look at the characteristics of winter and summer shoe options for your car from this company. Both variants are sold in more than 40 countries around the world, which speaks volumes about the product's quality and portability. The price-quality ratio in this case is more than favorable. It is important to mention that tires of this brand are used by drivers even in sports competitions, which means that the statement about handling at speed is not a lie.

Yokohama paid more attention to the winter version of tires. They introduce advantages of their products that no other manufacturer in the world has! Namely:

  1. Water drainage.
  2. No slipping on ice.
  3. Excellent protectors.
  4. High level of adaptation to weather and temperature conditions.
  5. Micro-bubble technology that creates a clumping effect when driving on snow or ice against slipping and loading.

Yokohama winter tires have become so popular that such global automobile brands as Porsche, Mercedes, Toyota and others have introduced them into the basic equipment of their new products.

Kumho tires are produced by a Korean plant. It produces more than 36 million tires per year, which indicates high quality products and high demand for her.

This manufacturer has serious plans for its own development. For example, now they make shoes not only for cars, but also for airplanes, buses, and agricultural machinery; the brand is planning to participate in Formula 1.

Features of Kumho brand rubber:

  • release not only in summer and winter versions, but also all-season; the latter option is available for moderate and high-speed driving;
  • directional stability;
  • grooves and grooves that guarantee good grip;
  • low noise level when driving.

It is worth noting that the company’s winter tires have several modifications. They depend on different roads, so everyone can choose the right option.

One of the most popular tires of the manufacturer at the beginning of work were Kumho Tires. As a result of the surveys, it was found that drivers most often trusted their cars with this tire. Kumho is a brand that has low prices and high quality, even when compared with Japanese manufacturers.

In 2012, the next new product was released - Solus. This is a kind of all-season jacket that is put on in early spring and taken off at the beginning of frost. It is worth considering that the European winter is more gentle, so you still need to take into account the area in which you live. These tires will survive any precipitation and weather, but they definitely need to be changed in snowy conditions.

Among the latest developments, high-speed series already stand out, which are intended not specifically for sports, but for sports sedans. Many reputable publications conducted surveys and tested them, the results are truly shocking. Fourth place among motorists, and yet this tire has just appeared on the shelves! These are summer tires, which, given the price, are considered an ideal purchase today.

Kumho produces summer and winter tires, but any of them are made taking into account all standards and regulations. The only difference in the series can be seen in the safety and speed used.

You can also note the rather heavily carved pattern on the tires. This is designed to resist slipping and also for better shock absorption. Now you have less risk of losing control on ice in winter, because with such tires this is simply impossible. Depending on your requirements and the vehicle itself, choosing tires from Kumho couldn't be easier.

What to choose: Kumho or Yokohama?

Comparing these two manufacturers, as well as their range, many motorists are inclined to the first option. This, of course, does not mean that Yokohama tires are worse, but Kumho has a number of advantages:

  1. Several winter series to choose from.
  2. Special print on anti-slip tires.
  3. Friction protector.
  4. Acoustic comfort.
  5. Resistance to deformation.

From this we can conclude that it is better to buy winter tires from Kumho. They are very reliable and do not slip.

If you turn to Yokohama, we advise you to take a closer look at summer or all-season options. They are suitable for any weather, are also resistant, and are also suitable for high-speed riding. The brand also has several rows of rubber, so you don’t have to worry about the choice – the range is definitely wide. Many users also note excessive tire noise, but additional sound insulation solves this issue. Motorists also talk about strong slipping on ice, but this opinion is subjective, because until you try, you won’t understand.

When choosing tires for your vehicle, we recommend paying attention to the following criteria:

  1. The make of your car or other vehicle.
  2. The season for which tires are selected.
  3. Rubber coating.
  4. Weather resistant.

The Japanese company for the production of car tires has long been known and is popular in many countries around the world. When becoming successful in the post-war years, the company's management made the right decision, relying on all-season products and high quality.

Today, Yokohama tire products occupy a strong position in the international market, offering consumers car tires with excellent quality and characteristics. Well-established production in Russia produces products no worse than an enterprise in Japan - raw materials for production are supplied from trusted suppliers and in full compliance with the requirements of the plant. By the way, the quality of synthetic rubber produced in our country is considered the best in the world. In the presented review, divided into categories for clarity, you can see the rating of the best models of this brand.

The best comfort tires Yokohama

The most comfortable tires have a Y speed index in their specification. As a rule, these are premium products, the price of which is an order of magnitude higher than regular tires. Low noise levels are achieved not only by the specific tread pattern, but also very much depend on the composition of the raw materials from which the tire is made. Larger tires with a radius of R17, R18 and higher are considered the most comfortable, because the larger the wheel size, the less sensitive road irregularities are for the car and passengers.

2 YOKOHAMA BLUE ARTH-A AE-50

Stability in corners. Best price/quality ratio
A country:
Average price: 3,590 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.6

Rubber designed specifically for long-distance highway travel. The tire is completely unsuitable for driving on mud, wet grass, or any other rough terrain. All its qualities are designed exclusively for asphalt surfaces - on the track the Yokohama Blue Arth tire is capable of a lot. It holds the road well, demonstrates stable behavior when cornering at a reasonable speed, and is not afraid of encountering wet surfaces and puddles.

Reviews often contain negative comments that question the comfort of these tires. Due to their negligible number, most likely, either improper running-in occurred (and any tires must undergo training for long and reliable operation), or the product was stored for a long time in the seller’s warehouse without complying with established standards. Otherwise, the tires are simply excellent; compared to similar products from popular brands, they have an affordable price, and are not at all inferior to them in terms of quality characteristics.

Why do you need proper tire break-in?

In order for the operation of new tires to be as long and efficient as possible, they must be properly prepared to perform their functions. The production of a tire follows the analogy of a “layer cake”: textile fiber, rubber, steel reinforcing wire are layer by layer placed on top of each other and subjected to vulcanization. This process takes place in a special mold, the surface of which is treated with a lubricant that prevents rubber from sticking. It is this that is adsorbed into the surface of the tire and initially prevents all the characteristics of the new rubber from appearing.

To remove this layer, it is enough to drive several hundred kilometers. This must be done carefully, avoiding any overload on the tire. Sharp turns, high-speed driving and heavy braking are contraindicated during this period. If these rules are not followed, uneven wear will subsequently progressively increase with further mileage, as a result of which the tire will lose its declared characteristics and its service life will be significantly reduced.

1 YOKOHAMA AVS DECIBEL V550

The quietest tire. Excellent handling on wet asphalt
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: 6,106 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.9

The size range of these low-profile tires covers the most popular market segment (from R15 to R18). The rubber is very hard, all bumps and potholes in the road respond to the steering wheel. It has excellent braking distances, both on wet and dry asphalt. It holds the road well; during high-speed turns, the moment of slipping into a skid is extended and sensitive for the driver, which allows you to control this process by reducing the speed.

In their reviews, owners of Yokohama decibel tires express great satisfaction with the ride comfort - after warming up the tires at any speed of the car, acoustic noise is generated only by air flows cutting against the body, while on the rubber side there is silence. One of the disadvantages is that getting into deep holes can lead to damage to the side of the disk edge, despite the reinforced sidewall (it all depends on the selected speed mode and driving style).

The best Yokohama sports tires

These tires are specially created for lovers of aggressive and high-speed driving. They are completely different from conventional tires, they have a fairly high rigidity (provides reliable handling), but at the same time they are quite soft and comfortable after warming up, literally cling to the road and are able to provide a minimum braking distance. The disadvantage is rapid wear, which is inevitable at high speeds for heated rubber.

3 YOKOHAMA ADVAN ST V802

High steering sensitivity. Excellent road holding
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: RUB 13,131.
Rating (2019): 4.6

An excellent choice for owners of powerful crossovers who love speed. Despite the fact that the tire is quite heavy (R18 weighs 13.3 kg), it is easy to balance. Very rigid sidewall, almost no flex even under load. The directional tread provides good grip, better directional stability and controllability; it forms a central solid rib. For all its rigidity, in an enlarged (due to the small transition angle of the side part) contact patch, the tire exhibits a sticking effect. This ensures not only a short braking distance, but also prevents skidding when cornering at high speeds.

In reviews, owners like the Advan ST V802’s ability to confidently hold the road. Maneuvering at speed is very clear, without blockages (the rigid side part makes itself felt). The tires are reliable and can easily overcome urban obstacles such as curbs. There is a slight noise from the tire. Off-road, the tires do not perform well; after all, these are high-speed tires.

2 YOKOHAMA ADVAN FLEVA V701

The Advan Fleva tire has a bright and memorable tread pattern (the grooves resemble hooks or claws), allowing the wheel to unquestioningly obey the steering wheel on any road surface. Despite its pronounced characteristics of a sports tire, Yokohama Advan is also a very comfortable tire that has a low noise level from contact with the road.

These are, of course, not semi-slick tires, but you won’t be able to ride them quietly - the tires provoke aggressive driving with their confident behavior on the road. Reviews note the high strength and wear resistance of rubber. It perfectly resists lateral damage, has low rolling resistance, and the directional tread pattern and numerous drainage grooves allow you to ignore wet asphalt and puddles.

Features of running in winter tires

If with summer tires the break-in process is quite simple, and comes down to banal accuracy and smooth driving for the first couple of hundred miles, the break-in of winter studded tires is more demanding. It lasts a little longer (the mileage should be at least 500 - 600 km) with the same calm driving style. During the running-in process, the studs fall into place, the lubricant between the rubber and the steel tip evaporates, and in the future you will have to make more efforts to ensure that they fly out before their intended service life.

But the main thing when running in winter studded tires is the temperature regime - experts recommend doing this process even in positive weather and clean (from snow and ice) asphalt. Rubber without studs, popularly called “Velcro”, breaks in as quickly as summer tires - it is enough to follow the rules of careful driving for a hundred or two kilometers, and the new tires are ready for reliable and long-term service.

1 YOKOHAMA AVS SPORT V105

The fastest tire
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: 4,040 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.9

High-class rubber for powerful and expensive cars, developed in tandem with the Daimler concern and appeared on the market quite recently - in 2012. Fully meets the high requirements of owners, providing unsurpassed grip, speed and comfort characteristics. In their reviews, drivers note the excellent behavior of the car on the road - it does not “scour” along the highway, confidently takes turns at high speed, and does not skid. Puddles and sections of wet road do not oblige you to slow down - the tires literally cut through the water barrier and are not at all prone to hydroplaning.

Thanks to Matrix Rayon Body Ply technology, the rubber is very sensitive to steering movements. Even on a dirt road (where would we be without it), the tire slips only when there is heavy mud, but it does not bury itself, and can overcome an obstacle when moving “under tension”. Due to the high price, sizes R17, R18 and above are more common on the market, which are more consistent with luxury cars.

The best Yokohama winter tires

Yokohama winter tires are quite popular in our country. The peculiarity of the best tire for the cold season lies in the balance between softness (and such rubber simply must be very soft) and wear resistance. Having excellent parameters for these properties, Yokohama tires also have a unique tread that makes the wheel grip on ice no worse than on clean highway asphalt.

3 YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR I/T-S G073

High wear resistance. Shortest braking distance
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: 4,830 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.6

This tire has proven itself well on winter roads, providing safe driving regardless of the condition of the road surface. The main advantage of this line of Yokohama tires is the short braking distance, which is of great importance for a large and heavy car (the tires are designed for crossovers or SUVs, the main operation of which occurs in urban areas).

Reviews from drivers using Geolandar I/T-S G073 in their cars note good braking on ice, despite the absence of studs. The disadvantage of the tire is the large roll of the car during high-speed turns (due to the soft sidewall), although on a winter road there is no need for “recklessness”. Despite the fact that the size range starts from R15, larger tires are more in demand on the domestic market, starting from R16 and above.

2 YOKOHAMA ICE GUARD IG55

Better grip. Excellent handling
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: 4,560 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.6

The use of orange oil in the rubber mixture makes the tread surface more elastic, resulting in excellent traction - the tire literally sticks to the surface, completely displacing water or slush in the contact patch. For drainage, oblique directional channels are used, the width of which allows the rubber to immediately self-clean. Good handling is ensured by a fairly wide central rib of the tread, which also has a diverse configuration.

The cross-shaped studs are surrounded by a special tread pattern reminiscent of turbine blades. Its purpose is to ensure high performance and prevent tooth loss (the stud does not protrude much above the tread, but thanks to the design it performs its function 100%). In their reviews, owners of large R17 or R18 tires talk about the appearance of self-confidence when driving - they drive so confidently and predictably these tires. There is also low noise during wheel operation.

1 YOKOHAMA W.DRIVE V905

Quietest winter tire
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: RUB 3,097.
Rating (2019): 4.8

This line of tires from the Japanese manufacturer was developed specifically for the conditions of the central part of the European mainland, where the roads are often covered with an icy crust or a mess of snow and ice mixed with water. The tread of the winter tire is designed in such a way that the rubber has excellent lateral stability when cornering, regardless of road conditions. The drainage channels are quite wide, made at an angle and perfectly drain not only water, but also melting snow from the contact patch. Reliable traction ensures that the tread of this tire can self-clean quickly.

In their reviews, owners note the efficiency of tires when braking on winter roads - this characteristic is largely provided by the shoulder areas with self-locking sipes. Rubber also has excellent traction properties, is resistant to aquaplaning and effectively saves fuel due to its minimal rolling resistance.

The best Yokohama off-road tires

Yokohama tire products are produced for different road conditions. In our country, all-terrain tires are in great demand, capable of propelling a vehicle on not only unpaved roads, but also their complete absence. This category presents the best lines of off-road tires from this brand.

2 YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR A/T G015

High resistance to side cuts
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: 7,080 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.6

This line of tires is all-season and can be successfully used in regions with mild winters on a year-round basis. Rubber has a number of advantages, providing both cross-country ability and good grip on asphalt surfaces. The aggressive tread pattern, despite its fairly large depth, produces very little noise on the highway. The tire has a larger contact patch, which ensures uniform pressure on the tire and good grip characteristics. In addition, the thickness of the tire has been significantly increased, which determines its resistance to damage, especially from the side.

Owners who have installed these tires on their cars (the most popular are R16 - R18) typically express satisfaction with the All-Terrain G015 line in their reviews. They pay attention to good driving characteristics, both on asphalt and on rough terrain. The other side of the coin is rapid wear and tear with an aggressive driving style.

1 YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR A/T-S G012

Better cross-country ability. Excellent balance
A country: Japan (made in Russia, Philippines)
Average price: 6,850 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.8

This is one of the best Yokohama tires in terms of cross-country ability. Despite the rather large weight, the tires are well balanced (this is especially important for such large sizes as R17, R18). The feature of the self-cleaning tread ensures confident maneuverability on rough terrain, “shoves” through mud, sand and wet grass (it is important to monitor the pressure in the cylinders). It behaves confidently on the highway; wet asphalt and puddles do not affect grip even at high speed. The tire is quite hard, so there is increased acoustic noise at speed.

In their reviews, owners who have tested the properties of A/T-S G012 in action, as a rule, express satisfaction with their choice. The tire copes well with the conditions for which it is designed. Cars with all-wheel drive are capable of a lot in all-road conditions. With all-season use, tires perform well on winter roads and do not tan in mild frosts, but in regions with harsh winters it is better not to use them. It is also highly resistant to wear and punctures.

The Japanese corporation Yokohama, which produces car tires of the same name, occupies one of the leading places in the world ranking of the best tire manufacturers. Among the company's clients are such well-known brands as Mitsubishi, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, Lexus, Porshe, Mercedes Benz, Lotus.

In this review, we will look at the best Yokohama tire models. Let's get acquainted with their characteristics, find out how much they cost, consider their positive and negative sides. We will select the optimal models in terms of price/quality ratio.

In the production of Yokohama tires, innovative IceGuard technology is used, which gives the rubber resistance to all weather conditions and gives it water-absorbing properties. The wheels maintain contact with the road surface by absorbing excess moisture. An aggressive tread pattern is used.

Yokohama tires are regularly tested at special test sites in order to identify defects and test new rubber models.

Product range

Yokohama's product range includes tires for trucks, cars, racing cars, and SUVs.

By seasonal use:

  • Summer tires will ensure confident movement on dry and wet road surfaces, with any slope. Reinforced sidewalls and a special tread structure create first-class traction between the wheels and the road surface.
  • Winter tires are available in non-studded and studded versions. You should choose it depending on the weather conditions in your area, the presence of ice and compacted snow on your roads.
  • All-season tires combine the wear resistance of summer tires and the elasticity of winter tires.

Advantages of tires

  • High resistance to temperature changes. When choosing all-season tires, there is practically no difference in driving when the weather changes.
  • Low noise level.
  • They have increased cross-country ability.
  • Increased wear resistance. Tires are able to “drive” for several seasons in active mode.
  • Confidently gets out of any dirt and snowdrifts.

Negative aspects of tires

  • Brand value.
  • Studs on winter tires fly out at a speed of about 140 km/h.
  • On ice the tires skid, especially when turning.

Tires Yokohama BluEarth-A AE-50 195/50 R15 82H

Summer tires Yokohama BluEarth-A AE-50 are comfortable and silent. These are soft tires that provide excellent maneuverability. The tires have a short braking distance on wet asphalt. When driving you don't feel the ruts on the road. The car handles flawlessly and corners without problems. After proper running-in, the tires operate almost silently. The original multi-layer rubber tread with reduced heat transfer reduces energy loss and increases comfort. To make these tires, a mixture of two types of silica with orange oil is used - this composition provides confident grip on wet roads and safety.

When choosing summer tires, please note that Yokohama BluEarth-A AE-50 are not suitable for off-road driving. These are tires for roads with normal surfaces - dry or wet.

Tires Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 215/60 R16 95H

Yokohama Geolandar all-season tires are designed for small and medium-sized SUVs. These are innovative tires for which a rubber compound containing orange oil was developed, which made the tires economical, comfortable and safe. They provide excellent grip on wet and dry roads, save fuel, and are silent when driving.

When choosing tires, please note that although Geolandar are positioned as all-terrain tires, they are still better suited for roads, albeit of poor quality. They overcome holes and cracks well, but on dirt roads and muddy roads they do not perform in the most ideal way. They are suitable for rare trips off the road, but for constant off-road travel it is better to choose another model.
