Tuning studio AMG (AMG). AMG - what is it? Why is Mercedes-Benz AMG considered one of the best cars in the world? What does Amg Mercedes mean?

But now this car company has released a new sports coupe to replace this model and it is the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT.

This rear-wheel drive monster was presented to the public in 2014, but sales started only in 2015. The design of the model is similar to the car it replaced.

The buyer can purchase any of 3 modifications: the standard GT, GT 1 Edition and GT S. The last of these modifications is equipped with a slightly different engine.

Design

Just look at the photo and it immediately becomes clear that the designers have created a simply gorgeous car. In real life, the model looks even more attractive than in photos or videos.

The muzzle received a long hood, which drivers sometimes complain about, saying that it interferes with front visibility. Narrow, beautiful optics with LED filling are used here, it looks really cool. The manufacturer simply installed a huge radiator grille and an equally huge company logo here. There are air intakes on the bumper that cool the front brake system.

From the side, the silhouette of the model itself is pleasing; it is beautiful and swift. Also from this angle you can see how long the hood is. Large wheel arches are used here and there are gills in front of the door, which supports the sporty image of the car.

The rear has narrow headlights with LED filling and looks simply stunning. The model also has a spoiler that extends at a certain speed. Behind the rear bumper there are reflectors and elegantly inserted 2 exhaust pipes with excellent sound.

Body dimensions of Mercedes-Benz AMG GT:

  • length – 4546 mm;
  • width – 1939 mm;
  • height – 1288 mm;
  • wheelbase – 1288 mm;
  • weight – 1615 kg.

Specifications

The most interesting thing about this car is, of course, the engine. The buyer can choose a car with one of 2 engines that were developed by Mercedes-Benz itself.

Both engines are biturbo and have a volume of 4 liters. This is a V-twin V8 engine. The first engine produces 462 horsepower, and the second 510 horsepower. A couple of systems for these engines were taken from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

The engine, which is weaker, develops one hundred kilometers per hour in exactly 4 seconds, and the second in 3.8 seconds. With the first engine, the car can accelerate to a maximum of 304 km/h, and with the second up to 310 km/h.

The dynamic performance of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT was achieved not only by high power, but also by a good transmission. This is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and is an improvement over the transmission from the previous model.

The chassis of this model is made entirely of aluminum, which makes it lighter. The front and rear suspension is equipped with double wishbones made of treacherous aluminum; as a result, the car weighs 1.5 tons, which has a good effect on its speed performance.

Interior

Inside, the car looks both sporty and luxurious in the style of premium sedans.

The steering wheel is exactly the same as on all the company's cars, for example. On the top of the center console there is a display that displays all the information about the car. Below the display there are 4 air deflectors, which are made in the style of fighter jets.

Next comes a washer for controlling the functions that are displayed on the display, and on the sides of this washer there are buttons for turning off the stabilization system and an engine start button. Several buttons allow you to select the driving mode for which the car’s suspension is adjusted.

The chairs are leather, have a beautiful appearance, they have excellent lateral support, which can be adjusted electronically, as well as several other positions of the chair.

Price Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

The cost of this coupe depends precisely on the choice of engine; now a model with a younger version of the unit will cost the buyer a minimum of 8,630,000 rubles and for this money he will receive the following equipment:

  • climate control;
  • keyless access;
  • push button start;
  • Cruise control;
  • Rain sensor;
  • LED optics;
  • adaptive lighting.

A small number of options will also be offered. The second version of the engine costs 1,100,000 rubles more and, roughly speaking, you don’t get anything new. List of options:

  • Hi-Fi audio system;
  • leather interior;
  • driver fatigue sensor;
  • heated seats;
  • a roof with a panoramic view;
  • Rear View Camera;
  • lane control;
  • blind spot monitoring;
  • signaling;
  • electrically adjustable seats with memory;
  • rear and front parking sensors.

This is a good car with a great design that shows simply excellent dynamic performance. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford a model like the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT because of its price, however, this does not change the fact that it is a good sports car.

Video

I'm sure you've seen these cars more than once in your life. Whether you were standing behind them in a traffic jam or walking down an alley, you cast a fleeting glance at the lid of their trunk. Three-pointed star, basically Mercedes, like . But each time your mind highlighted one detail that is not so often present on these cars. Three letters, A.M.G. What are they and what do they eat them with? Let's try to figure it out.

There is probably not a single person living in big cities who does not know that the presence of these three letters means that the car he is currently looking at is a tuned version of a Mercedes-Benz. But how many of you have ever wondered what this acronym means and whether it is even an acronym? In what cases are these badges hung on Mercedes? Do they necessarily mean that hundreds of horsepower are lurking under the hood of this particular instance? And that this car should always cost 2 times more than a regular model from Stuttgart?

A.M.G. is a division of the Stuttgart-based automaker. Since 2007, the sub-brand was completely absorbed by the auto giant, which, on the one hand, allowed it to expand its capabilities in preparing cars, but on the other, significantly reduced its independence in decision-making.

The company was originally founded by two former Mercedes engineers who worked in the sports department and took part in the development of the 300 SE sports engine in 1967. Since then, the AMG nameplate has become synonymous with fast and powerful Mercedes models, so adored by the creators of this company. Their names were Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. Accordingly, the initial letters of their surnames formed the beginning of the abbreviation, "AM", while the "G" was added from the name of the city of Großaspach, which is located near Stuttgart, where the first founder of the company was born.

The answers to the following three questions can be combined into one. Mercedes attaches AMG nameplates only if engineers from Affalterbach have worked their magic on the car. But the degree of intervention in a factory model can vary significantly. For example, two absolutely identical cars in the back of the W212 (fourth generation E-Class) may differ in technical components like heaven and earth.

Under the hood of one you will find a “modest” 4.6 liter V-8 engine producing 408 hp. with 600 Nm of torque or any other engine from the line (the engine in this case of tuning can be any, even 1.8 liter). Another Mercedes with an AMG badge will have a modified unit installed. Accordingly, his indicators will be completely different. Using the example of a naturally aspirated engine (M156) E63 AMG, the power data will correspond to 525 hp. and 630 Nm of torque.

The thing is that in the first case we are dealing with an additional package: AMG Sport.

For models with a W212 body, the sports package includes:

Appearance

Modified bumpers (rear and front);

Side skirts, very similar in design to those installed on cars of the Mercedes-AMG division;

The front apron and rear bumper diffuser are made in AMG style;

18-inch alloy wheels with low-profile sports tires 245/40 R18 front and 265/35 R18 rear

Interior

Sports seats with extensive lateral support and contrasting side stitching on the seats and armrests;

The front sports seats are upholstered in DINAMICA microfiber and ARTICO artificial leather.

Three-spoke Nappa leather sports steering wheel with paddle shifters;

Black roof lining;

Sports metal pedals with rubber cleats are made of stainless steel;

The floor will also feature signature AMG logo mats;

Technical component

Lowered sports suspension;

Perforated brake discs of increased diameter;

Calipers with Mercedes-Benz logo.

Additionally, cars with V6 or V8 were equipped with 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmissions.

The second example is about a full-fledged (real, if you want) modification of A.M.G.

The fourth generation E63 AMG already had a 6.2 liter V8 M156 engine. Power - 525 hp, torque - 630 Nm. The engine was combined with a special AMG-prepared AMG SpeedShift MCT gearbox.

The tuning version was equipped with the AMG Ride Control sports suspension with a modified damping system, which was perfect for both aggressive, dynamic driving and urban conditions.

Also, AMG specialists have new steering rods, a lightweight anti-roll bar, and a new subframe. Ceramic brake discs and wide tires 255/40 R18 at the front and 285/35 R18 at the rear will ensure safety at high speeds.

The main external difference is the “6.3 AMG” nameplates.

The efficiency of the car increased significantly, even compared to the most powerful version of the E500 4MATIC of those years, which accelerated to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, the AMG-pumped sedan “did” a hundred in 4.5 seconds.

And finally about the cost. Naturally, these two versions of cars differed significantly in cost. A model pumped up by AMG could cost 1.5-2 times more than a modified version with an AMG appearance.

Mercedes AMG A 45 4Matic

The entry-level representative of AMG is the AMG A 45 4Matic. The 2.0 liter A45 engine is turbocharged and produces 360 hp. in hatchback body version. A 381 horsepower 2.0 liter engine is available for the restyled version of the car.

The A45 is a very fast and at the same time the most affordable AMG car. Acceleration of 4.6 seconds (or 4.2 seconds in the facelifted version) really makes this super hatch a real hot thing. It's even capable of outpacing the base Porsche 911.

Cost in Russia:

Pre-styling: 2,550,000 rubles

Restyling: 2,860,000 rubles

Mercedes AMG C 63

Let's move on. Before us is the latest addition to the regiment of real AMGs. The Russian market offers cars in two body styles: sedan and coupe. They, in turn, are divided into two modifications: C 63 AMG and C 63 S AMG.

The “basic version” of the C 63 AMG is equipped with a 4.0 liter 476 horsepower engine, accelerating the two-door in 4 seconds exactly, the sedan in 4.1 seconds.

The C 63 S AMG has the same volume, but has more power - 510 hp. With it, the sedan reaches 100 km/h in 4 seconds, the C 63 coupe does it in 3.9 seconds.

Abroad, the model is also available as a station wagon.

Cost in Russia:

Sedan

C 63 AMG: 4,600,000 rubles

C 63 S AMG: 5,100,000 rubles

Coupe

C 63 AMG: 4,800,000 rubles

C 63 S AMG: 5,300,000 rubles

Mercedes AMG E 63

The AMG E 63 is essentially the same as the C 63, only bigger, more powerful and a little faster. The 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 engine quickly responds to the accelerator pedal and has 558 hp. in the “regular” AMG version and 585 hp. in the E 63 AMG S version.

Both tuning versions of the E-Class come out in 4 seconds when sprinting to 100 km/h, reaching the milestone in 3.7 and 3.6 seconds respectively.

Cost in Russia:

E 63 AMG 4MATIC: 5,790,000 rubles

E 63 AMG S 4MATIC: 6,000,000 rubles

In our country, it is possible to buy a whole range of other models that were touched by the hands of the wizards from AMG. We have named you the most common and most affordable options in the line. Also on the market in Russia you can buy: , AMG, AMG, and SL-Class AMG, and SLC AMG. As you can see, there is a choice.

A few words about AMG packages...

The above examples concern truly charged variants from AMG. Let's give an example of more budget options that will be affordable for many Mercedes lovers. You don’t need to shell out millions of rubles to show others your taste. It is enough to purchase an AMG package for your car and you will be happy. This option is suitable for calm drivers. Its main advantage is its budget.

Almost every Mercedes-Benz vehicle in the lineup can be equipped with the AMG package. We presented the assembly of the AMG package above using the example of a previous generation model. The flexible Mercedes customization system allows you to create an irresistible appearance and exclusivity for your favorite car without any problems or overpayments.

AMG, is it worth buying?

I understand that the question sounds very strange. Still, should you buy an AMG? If you have a sufficient number of banknotes and the desire, of course it is possible, even necessary. Among the competitors from the big German three (,), in our opinion, it is the cars with the three-pointed star that can provide not only breathtaking dynamism and exciting speeds, but also incomparable style and a classic sense of sophistication, familiar only to Mercedes-Benz owners.

Which is better: a used AMG or a new Mercedes with the optional AMG Sport package?

Some people might think, maybe buy a used AMG version? We would not advise doing this in times of crisis. If you don’t have enough money for a new AMG, it’s better not to risk it and buy the latest model from the showroom, complemented by an AMG body kit. This way you will avoid the following:

High operating costs;

High fuel consumption;

Huge tax and insurance;

A used car tends to break down. Can you imagine how much original AMG spare parts can cost? That's the same!

All this can be avoided with a regular Mercedes with the AMG package. Maintenance won't cost a pretty penny, and for 90% of people it will look exactly like a real Mercedes-Benz AMG.

In April 2015, at the New York Automotive Industry Showcase, along with the mid-size Mercedes-Benz GLE crossover, its extreme variants, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and GLE 63 S, debuted. They are distinguished from the standard model not only by sporty aspects in the design of the exterior and interior, but also a powerful technical “filling”.

You can recognize the “evil” design of the all-terrain vehicle by the standard set of AMG bells and whistles: an aggressive body kit with aerodynamic elements, a quartet of exhaust pipes integrated into a black diffuser, and original alloy wheels with a diameter of 20 or 21 inches.

In terms of external body dimensions, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 repeats its “civilian brother”: length – 4819 mm, height – 1796 mm, width – 1935 mm, wheelbase – 2915 mm.

Inside, the “charged” crossover differs from the base model only in details - a sporty steering wheel truncated at the bottom, grippy seats with developed lateral support, an updated instrument panel, AMG logos and stainless steel pedals.

Otherwise, the cars are identical - “family” design, expensive finishing materials, a five-seat interior configuration and a 690-liter cargo hold, increasing to 2010 liters.

Specifications. The main highlight of the Mercedes AMG GLE 63 is hidden under the hood - it is a 5.5-liter V-shaped eight-cylinder petrol unit with two turbochargers and a direct injection system, which produces 558 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 700 Nm of peak thrust at 1750-5500 rpm /minute.
On the S-version of the “charged” crossover, the engine output is increased to 585 “horses” at 5500 rpm and 760 Nm at 1750-5250 rpm. In both cases, the engine is assisted by a 7-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive transmission with asymmetrical torque distribution (60% goes forward and 40% goes backward).

The AMG version of the GLE 63 accelerates to the first “hundred” in 4.3 seconds, and the GLE 63 S is 0.1 seconds faster. “Maximum speed” and fuel “appetite” are the same in both cases – 250 km/h and 11.8 liters in mixed driving conditions.

In addition, there is also a “transitional” modification in the model line - the “warmed up” GLE 450 AMG 4Matic (externally and internally it is similar to the above-mentioned “monsters”), equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine with bi-turbocharging, which has 367 “horses” in its arsenal "at 5500-6000 rpm and 520 Nm at 2000-4200 rpm. This crossover is equipped with a 9-band 9G-Tronic and asymmetrical all-wheel drive. It takes 5.7 seconds to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h, its peak capabilities are at 250 km/h, and its fuel consumption does not exceed 9.4 liters.

In terms of design, the “hot” modifications of the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 and GLE 63 S are not much different from the standard crossover: independent suspension on both axles with pneumatic elements and adaptive electric power steering (but only with sport settings). The car is equipped with a high-power brake system with ventilated and perforated all-round discs (diameter front – 390 mm, rear – 345 mm).

Options and prices. Russian Mercedes-Benz dealers are asking a minimum of 6,990,000 rubles for the GLE 63 version, and 700,000 rubles more for the “hot” S-variant. As standard, the car is equipped with nine airbags, dual-zone climate control, a premium audio system, sports front seats, full power accessories, a panoramic roof, 20-inch wheels, LED lighting and a whole range of high-tech systems.

Every line of the Mercedes-AMG GT demonstrates uncompromising purism. The car looks athletically powerful. The hood is elongated and low set. The shortened overhangs of the body refer to the car's belonging to the brand's sports cars.

The front bumper is distinguished by a black radiator grille with a diamond design. There is a three-pointed star in the center. Large air intakes give the body more dynamism. The elongated bonnet, large wheel arches and traditional AMG light-alloy wheels also attract attention.

The sloping trunk lid further emphasizes the dynamics of the car. Flat light optics emphasize the width of the body. Already at the first glance at this car, there is a desire to buy a Mercedes-AMG GT.

Exclusive interior

Thanks to their maximum sporting position, the optional AMG Performance seats in the Mercedes-AMG GT lay the foundation for maximum driving confidence. Seats with pronounced contours, integrated head restraints and AMG badge combine ideal lateral support for sporty driving and a particularly dynamic appearance. As part of the facelift, they come with another additional upholstery option.

On September 9, 2014, the official presentation of the new Mercedes-AMG GT sports car took place, and the model is spelled with a hyphen, since this is the first model created by Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

In the line of the German manufacturer, the car took a place one step below the supercar, however, production of the latter ceased in August of the fourteenth. The world premiere of the new coupe took place in early October at the Paris Motor Show.

Options and prices Mercedes-AMG GT 2019

RT7 - 7-stage robot.

Externally, the Mercedes-AMG GT S 2019 (photo and price) is in many ways reminiscent of the older model - there is also a long hood, a vertical radiator grille and a cabin moved back. True, the car was deprived of upward-opening gullwing doors, which made the design simpler, lighter and cheaper.

In terms of dimensions, the new product turned out to be slightly more compact than the SLS AMG, but the exact dimensions have not yet been announced. And in design, both models are quite similar. The new coupe is based on a chassis with a lightweight aluminum space frame, and the front and rear suspension is double wishbone.

Under the hood of the Mercedes AMG GT (specifications) there is a new 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine of the M178 series, equipped with two BorgWarner turbochargers and direct fuel injection. In the basic version, it develops 462 hp. (600 Nm), and in the S version it produces 510 forces and a peak torque of 650 Nm.

Both options are paired with a 7-speed robotic transmission with two clutches, located in a transaxle configuration and transmitting traction to the wheels of the rear axle. The car accelerates from zero to hundreds in 4.0 seconds, and the 510-horsepower modification does it in 3.8 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 304 and 310 km/h, respectively.

It is noteworthy that although the power of the AMG GT S turned out to be close to 520-horsepower, the latter is still much lighter (1,415 kg versus 1,570), more dynamic (3.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono package), but also more expensive than a Mercedes. For the Turbo they ask from 165,000 euros, and the new model with a three-pointed star will cost about 130,000 euros.

So, it is more correct to consider the model’s closest competitors as the Porsche 911 Carrera S for 108,000 euros (from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds), as well as the 550-horsepower Jaguar F-Type R Coupe costing from 103,700 (from zero to hundreds in 4.2 seconds). As for the 911 Turbo, the AMG GT will have a more powerful R version in the future.

The manufacturer distributed the first photos of the interior of the new Mercedes AMG GT back in mid-April 2014. The interior of the coupe features sports seats with developed lateral support, high-quality leather upholstery, carbon and aluminum inserts, a touchpad on the dashboard, which is already known from the company’s latest models, as well as an enlarged screen on the center console compared to the SLS AMG.

The car's standard equipment includes eight airbags, an automatic braking system before obstacles, a stabilization system with three operating modes, a rear mechanical self-locking lock on the basic version and an electronically controlled differential on the S.

But for a rear view camera, parking sensors, a blind spot monitoring function, Pre-Safe technology and the Comand Online multimedia complex, you must pay extra separately.

In addition, for an additional fee, an adaptive chassis AMG Ride Control with electronically controlled shock absorbers (included in the S version), carbon-ceramic brakes with discs with a diameter of 420 mm in the front and 360 mm in the rear, adaptive head optics with LEDs and an adjustable exhaust system are available.

European sales of the Mercedes-AMG GT started in March 2015. In addition, in the first 12 months, buyers could order the Edition 1 coupe, sporting slightly modified bumpers and side skirts, a static rear wing, an exclusive body color and slightly different interior design.

At the time of sales, the price of the 510-horsepower Mercedes-AMG GT S in Russia started at 8,880,000 rubles - this is almost half the price of the SLS AMG coupe. For a more modest coupe version with a 462 hp engine. asked from 7,700,000 rubles. — its deliveries began in the fall of 2015. In the summer of 2017, deliveries of the restyled version of the supercar began.

At the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, a presentation of the modernized Mercedes-AMG GT family of supercars took place. The Germans updated the existing versions of the coupe and roadster, and also introduced a new modification dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Mercedes-AMG division.

The updated Mercedes-AMG GT 2018 coupe received the same front end design as the roadster. The car now has a “toothy” radiator grille with vertical ribs and enlarged side air intakes in the front bumper.

Additionally, the two-door has acquired active blinds in front of the auxiliary radiators. By default, their doors are closed to ensure better aerodynamics, but when the technical “filling” heats up, they open, providing a flow of fresh air to the units.

In addition, specialists from the AMG division boosted the 4.0-liter V8 engine, which is equipped with the GT and GT S coupes. Thus, the output of the former’s engine was increased from the original 462 hp. and 600 Nm up to 476 forces and 630 Nm of torque. Note that the GT roadster engine originally had these characteristics.

Well, on the Mercedes-AMG GT S 2019 modification, engine performance increased from 510 hp. and 650 Nm to 522 “horses” and 670 Nm of torque. At the same time, the dynamic characteristics of the model remained the same. The base version of the coupe accelerates to hundreds in 4.0 seconds, and its S version does it in 3.8 seconds.

Also, for the first time in the line, a modification of the AMG GT C coupe appeared. This two-door car is driven by the same engine, but with a power of 557 hp. and 680 Nm. Plus, there are extended rear arches, a steering mechanism for the rear wheels, and an electronically controlled differential.

This version requires 3.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, while its maximum speed reaches 317 kilometers per hour. At first, it was possible to buy the Mercedes-AMG GT C coupe only in the anniversary version, Edition 50. It differs from the standard version in the black design of the exterior and interior and the corresponding nameplates. The start of sales of cars of the updated family began in June of the seventeenth; in Russia, for the GT S coupe they ask from 10,730,000, and for the GT R - from 13,020,000.
