What engines were installed on the Mitsubishi Galant 9. All owner reviews about the Mitsubishi Galant IX restyling

were considered sports sedans that could not only excite the whole family, but also provide driving pleasure. Mitsubishi Galant 9 was created specifically for the American market; the real failure was that in the North American market, which is what marketers were counting on, the new Galant sold three times worse than the eighth. In the United States, the Galant, in its ninth reincarnation, was introduced at the end of 2003; the car was assembled in the American city of Normal, in the state of Illinois. The machine was created on the PS platform, which stands for “Project America” (State). After a commercial failure in the United States, two years later, in 2006, the large sedan began to be supplied to the CIS markets. Cars supplied to CIS countries have 308 differences from American cars.

Appearance:

The dimensions of the latest Mitsubishi Galant are significantly larger than those of the previous model; the car has added as much as 23.5 cm in length; in terms of dimensions, this car can even be compared with, and. Let us remember that the ninth generation was produced only in a sedan body. Despite its apparent massiveness, the Mitsubishi's drag coefficient is 0.31, which is very good. The side mirrors are already heated as standard. The design was created in the Californian design studio of Mitsubishi and Akinori Nakanishi, a talented designer who drew the eighth Mitsubishi Galant was not involved in the ninth generation of the model, but later it was he who drew the tenth generation. During production, changes were made to the appearance of the car, the rear lights became “elongated” and not “square” as before, and the radiator grille also changed, which after the update lost its “beak”. In its basic equipment, the sedan rides on sixteen-inch radius wheels with 215/60 tires. Note that Subaru, with the latter, made a similar move to reorient family sedans with a sporty character to business-class sedans.

Salon:

The interior is also an advantage of the ninth generation Galant, because in terms of space it is comparable to business sedans and superior in interior space and. The steering wheel has a mechanical tilt adjustment; the steering wheel in the Galant is not adjustable for reach. The basic Intense package includes a multifunction steering wheel with control keys for the audio system and cruise control; accordingly, the equipment includes cruise control itself and an audio system with six speakers and a servo drive for all windows. The expensive Instyle package includes: leather seats, driver's seat servos, an electric sunroof and an expensive Rockford Fosgate audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer, the system power is 650 W. Safety is ensured by six airbags, which are provided as standard, and seat belt pretensioners. In American NHTSA safety tests, Mitsubishi scored five stars - the highest rating. The rear seat is wide, but it is shaped for two; the middle passenger, when the car hits a bump, can reach his head to the ceiling. Due to the increased wheelbase by 11.5 cm compared to the previous Mitsubishi Galant, the rear has become more spacious. Despite the increased dimensions, the trunk volume has decreased from 470 to 435 liters, but under the Galant's raised floor there is a full-size spare wheel.

Technical part and characteristics of Mitsubishi Galant

For Mitsubishi Galant intended for the CIS, a reliable 2.4 liter engine is offered. The 4G69 four-cylinder engine is equipped with a MIVEC variable valve timing system and ECI - MULTI distributed injection. The engine develops 158hp and 213Nm of torque. For the Russian and Ukrainian markets, only the Invecs 2 automatic transmission is provided. The gearbox has a manual mode and can adapt to the driver’s driving style. The 2.4 engine is known from the Outlander; its advantage is the absence of a GDI injection system, which does not like domestic gasoline too much. The power unit is equipped with an automatic octane correction system, which allows you to drive on 92 gasoline.

Once every 20,000 - 30,000, the injectors should be washed and the spark plugs replaced. Replacing the timing belt along with the rollers on a Galant should be carried out no later than a mileage of 90 thousand. There are known cases of radiator leakage, which cannot always be eliminated, and a new one costs $800.

A modification with a V6 of 233 and 258 hp was offered on the US market, which is known from the Pajero model, but the “sixes” were not officially supplied to the CIS.

The front suspension of the Galant is made according to the McPherson scheme, and a multi-link is installed at the rear. By European standards, the suspension is soft and allows some swaying on asphalt waves. The disadvantage of the model is that ESP (electronic stabilization system) is not available even as an additional equipment.

Let's pay attention to the technical characteristics of the Mitsubishi Galant.

Generation 6

  • Konstantin, Lipetsk, 1.6 79 l. With. petrol. I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Galant, I bought it in the late 1990s. At that time, the country was full of used foreign cars imported from abroad. So there was a huge choice, even better than now. True, there was much more junk than cars in good condition. But I was lucky, I came across a copy with a mileage of 78 thousand km. With a 1.6-liter gasoline engine. Its power is 79 hp. With. enough in urban conditions. In general, the engine is suitable for leisurely driving. The car is comfortable, the suspension is well adapted for our roads. Average consumption is 8-9 liters per 100 km, I fill with 92nd gasoline.
  • Mikhail, Taganrog, 1.8 94 l. With. petrol. My 1991 Galant has covered 170 thousand km and is still holding up well. This is what Japanese technology means, it is always in service. The naturally aspirated 94-horsepower engine is reliable, high-torque, and economical, consuming 10 liters per 100 km.
  • Oleg, Moscow region, 1.6 79 l. With. petrol. I have a Galant in the most basic configuration, with a 79-horsepower gasoline engine. A budget and unpretentious car for every day. Tenacious and hardy, with an impenetrable suspension. In the city it consumes up to 8-9 liters per hundred.
  • Dmitry, Yaroslavl, 1.8 94 l. With. I'm happy with the car, I still drive the Galante. This is my first foreign car, inherited from my father. I remember the day we bought it - from one reseller, it was in 1999. Version with a 94-horsepower 1.8-liter engine that supports 92-octane gasoline. A solid and unpretentious car for every day. Roomy interior and capacious trunk. An excellent family and practical car, sometimes even evokes nostalgic feelings. Galant is the car of my childhood, it consumes up to 9-10 liters per 100 km. The car of my childhood.

  • Tatyana, Nikolaev, 1.8 90 l. With. petrol. The car was inherited from my husband. The condition is excellent, despite 150 thousand on the odometer. The average consumption of 92 gasoline reaches 9-10 liters/100 km.

Generation 7

With 1.8 engine

  • Ruslan, Leningrad region. I'm happy with the car, I bought a used car from an old friend. This copy was produced in 1998, the current mileage is 180 thousand km. The 1.8-liter engine supports 92-grade gasoline and consumes an average of 10 liters per 100 km. The car looks stylish and brutal. There is nothing superfluous in the exterior and interior of the Mitsubishi Galant, everything is done simply and to the point, not like my wife’s Nissan Juke. In general, I’m a fan of such classics, I’m really in love with them. All these vibrations, noises and growling motor - for me, even the adrenaline lifts me up and makes me want to drive fast. This is my Galant, a powerful and economical car.
  • Konstantin, Minsk. I liked the car, my relatives gave it to me as a gift because I didn’t need it. Mitsubishi Galant 1997, with a 1.8-liter engine. It sat in the garage for a long time, and before the first start I had to tinker a little with the electrics. The sedan consumes from 8 to 12 liters depending on driving style.
  • Pavel, Kaliningrad. Galant is the optimal car in terms of price, quality and performance. I bought a version with a mileage of under 100 thousand, an even more recent copy. The 1.8 engine works with clear mechanics, and the average consumption is 10 liters/100 km.
  • Ekaterina, Yaroslavl. The car is just right for my needs. Used mainly in the city - to work and back home. And before and after work, we still have to take the children to kindergarten and then pick them up. In general, the Galant is a solid family car for every day. Consumes 10 liters with a 1.8 engine.
  • Yuri, Bryansk. I have a used Mitsubishi Galant, I have driven 100 thousand km on it - no serious breakdowns, the car works like a clock. Consumes from 10 to 11 liters per 100 km, I always drive as fast as the 1.8-liter engine allows. Galant sets you up for aggressive driving, you just can’t resist. I'm very pleased with the purchase.
  • Alexey, Stavropol region. Cool car, 1998 version, the car has driven over 200 thousand km. I drive and complain, with comfort, a pure soul and pleasure. I have only positive emotions from this car, it is very fast in the city and practically does not break down, although the odometer has about 140 thousand km. The 1.8-liter engine consumes 9-10 liters per hundred, on the highway you can achieve 8-9 liters per 100 km. I praise the Galant for its spacious interior, high-quality finishing materials and good build quality.

With 2.0 engine

  • Konstantin, Smolensk. My Galant has traveled 150 thousand km, thank you for still being alive. A strong and durable car with a masculine design. It drives great, I also praise the powerful acceleration and braking dynamics. A two-liter heart eats from 10 l/100 km.
  • Oleg, Vorkuta. Galant is the best option for working in a taxi. Before him I drove a Dishman Logan, which I was tired of. Galant is a more playful, powerful and sporty car that brings joy every day. I get behind the wheel with pleasure, how lucky I am. A car with a 2.0 engine consumes 10-11 liters per 100 km.
  • Nikolay, Penza. I have a 1998 Galant with a powerful two-liter gasoline engine. With it in the city I get 11 liters per 100 km, if I drive mainly at medium speeds. If you push hard, you get 12 liters. This is already a lot, but it is possible to fill in 92nd gasoline. In addition, in the trunk of my Galant there is an Italian-made gas system installed - the cabin does not stink of gas. The car is perfectly soundproofed from the external environment, and the suspension is energy-intensive. On the highway, the Galant consumes a maximum of 9-10 liters/100 km.
  • Anton, Lipetsk. Cool car, created for my needs. Operated in urban and suburban conditions. I’m a tourist, I’ve traveled half of Russia, but then I had a Renault Logan. This time I plan to rush to Eastern Europe. I’ll take a camera with me, and of course, a Mitsubishi Galant. For now I’m driving around the city, doing a break-in before a long-distance adventure, so to speak. A car with a 2-liter engine consumes from 10 to 12 liters per 100 km.
  • Tatyana, Nizhny Novgorod region. The car is just right for my needs, a family car and a practical car for daily trips. I knew in advance what kind of car I needed. Well, of course, Japanese, even if supported. I have a two-liter version of Galant, with an average consumption of 11 l/100 km.
  • Mikhail, Priozersk. I liked the Galant, a car for all occasions. I drive comfortably and don’t complain. The car consumes within 10 l/100 km, is equipped with a powerful and reliable 2-liter engine, working with an automatic transmission. The gearbox operates smoothly and sets you up for dynamic driving.

With 2.5 engine

  • Konstantin, Nizhny Novgorod. I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant with a powerful 2.5-liter engine. The engine is a gasoline engine, high-quality aspirated, time-tested. It pulls confidently at all speeds, I have no doubt about its reliability. For 200 thousand km, nothing bad has happened to the car, the car is perfectly adapted for our roads, I drive comfortably and have no problems. I service in my own garage, I buy only original spare parts that can be found at disassembly. The Galant costs me little, in the city it consumes 12 liters per 100 km, I fill it with 92-grade gasoline.
  • Vladislav, Perm region. The Mitsubishi Galant is a legendary car, and that says it all. Our whole family drove around in Galants. First my grandfather, then my father, and now me. By the way, grandfather Galant got it through connections, he was a party member. So Galant has a special meaning for me. It's a shame it was discontinued. I still drive it, by the way, I have the 1997 version, from my father. With a 2.5 liter engine and an automatic transmission I get 11-12 liters per 100 km.
  • Karina, Simferopol. I liked the car, ideal for daily trips, travel, etc. The whole family is happy, the children and mother-in-law are delighted with my purchase. Galant is in good condition, reliable and economical. Despite the powerful 2.5-liter engine, you can fit in 11 liters.
  • Pavel, Rostov. A powerful and reliable car for every day. I have a Galant with a 2.5-liter engine and an automatic transmission. The gearbox is configured as it should and reveals the engine's potential well. In the urban cycle I get 12 liters, outside the city it’s 9-10 liters/100 km. I praise Galant for practical and high-quality materials in the cabin. By the way, three tall passengers will fit in the back.

Generation 8

With 1.8 engine

  • Alexey, Minsk. I got the Galant from my brother as soon as I passed my license. So this is my first foreign car. Initially I thought of taking something simpler, but then a chance came up - my brother was going to sell the car, and I suddenly showed up - give it to me. The car was produced in 2000, in good condition, equipped with a 1.8-liter engine and automatic transmission. Consumes within 10-11 liters per 100 km, I fill it with the 95th design. The car looks stylish, sporty and somewhat presentable. On the Galant, it’s not a shame to park next to some Bentley, although why should it be a shame, because the Galant is almost business class.
  • Dmitry, Orenburg. I'm happy with the car, I got a used Mitsubishi Galant. The car was produced in 2005, in excellent condition, although it has a mileage of 100 thousand km. I bought it in 2015, and in two years I drove another 40 thousand km. Cool car, very roomy, and fast enough, even compared to more modern competitors. The 1.8-liter engine is still capable of pushing. Acceleration to hundreds in 10 seconds, top speed under 200 km/h, and average fuel consumption at 10 liters.

With 2.0 engine

  • Alexander, Stavropol region. Mitsubishi Galant is a legendary car, I use it as a taxi driver. For these purposes, this machine is the most suitable option. Despite its age, the car does not suffer from breakdowns; it is serviced only by dealers. I am the second owner, in eight years of operation I have only changed the gearbox. As for consumables, this goes without saying. Filters, oils, gasoline - I fill and change them in a timely manner, according to the regulations. The car is still maintained, and you need to take care of it, like any other equipment. I have a Galant with a two-liter engine, it consumes a maximum of 12 liters/100 km.
  • Yaroslav, Moscow region. Galant is an ideal vehicle for family needs. In addition, the car is used for taxi work, where it can be said to be an indispensable option, replacing my VAZ-2107. In the city I get 11 liters per 100 km, under the hood there is a 2-liter engine with a manual transmission.
  • Oleg, Irkutsk. I praise the Galant for its good visibility, impenetrable suspension, powerful engine and decent dynamics. There is plenty of space in the cabin; you can seat at least five people together. Average consumption is 11-12 liters.
  • Dmitry, Orenburg. I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Galant, equipped with a two-liter engine. Its dynamics are enough to accelerate to the first hundred in 10 seconds. The maximum speed is 200-210 km/h. The interior is spacious at D-class level. The car is reliable and has no problems with breakdowns. In addition, it is repairable and cheap to maintain. In the city I use 10-12 liters, depending on the nature of my driving.
  • Maxim, Bryansk. I liked the car, I’ve been driving a Galanta for two years now. So far I have not regretted that I purchased a used Japanese one. At the moment, the mileage is 120 thousand km, all repairs - mostly minor ones - are carried out at the dealership. I am not a craftsman, and I rely on qualified people who know a lot about this matter. The car is equipped with a 2.0 engine and an automatic transmission, city consumption is 12 liters.
  • Mikhail, Krasnodar region. I’ve been using Galant for 15 years now, and I’m not planning on selling it yet. I’m already used to the car, I drive comfortably and I don’t complain about the reliability of this Japanese miracle. I studied it thoroughly, for this I have my own garage. I only buy used spare parts; there’s no need for new parts - they’re expensive these days and you can’t find them. Of course, Galant breaks down, and quite often. Any technology will fail someday, even Japanese technology. But overall, I’m happy with the car, the Galant is cheap for me, the main costs are only for gasoline. By the way, a 2-liter engine with an automatic transmission consumes 11-12 liters.

With 2.4 engine

  • Ekaterina, Tambov. I have a Mitsubishi Galant with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine. A good solid atmospheric engine, time-tested. Over 170 thousand mileage, this 150-horsepower engine has never failed, but the reliability of the suspension leaves much to be desired. In the city I get around 12 liters/100 km. The car consumes 95 gasoline. Galant is a worthy representative of its class. It's a shame it was discontinued. I would buy the next generation, but for now I’m driving the old one.
  • Nikolay, Moscow. I have a 2000 Galant, with a 2.4 engine and an automatic transmission. A powerful and strong car, I drive it 14-15 hours a day. The sedan drove 130 thousand km without any serious incidents, and thereby proved its reliability. In the urban cycle I fit in 11-12 liters.
  • Yuri, Taganrog. I'm quite happy with the car; by the way, I've been looking for an inexpensive business class sedan for a long time. I didn’t want to buy a new Volga, so in the end the choice fell on a supported Galant. I'm happy with the car, the dynamics and handling are all at a high level. Consumption 12 liters.
  • Alexander, Peter. Mitsubishi Galant is a worthwhile car, it still looks relevant. With its 2.4-liter engine, you can go full throttle, especially at traffic lights. In general, a kind of urban lighter for every day. Consumes from 10 to 13 liters, I fill it with AI-95.
  • Vasily, Orenburg. A comfortable and, most importantly, high-quality car. Galant was recommended to me by friends; by the way, one friend had exactly the same one. The car is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine. The engine produces an acceptable 165 horses, which allows it to accelerate to 220 km/h. Excellent dynamics and controllability, there is nothing to be surprised about - Mitsubishi has never had problems with this. Consumption in the city is 12 liters.
  • Pavel, Bryansk. Cool car, optimal transport for every day. From 2005 to 2015, Galant traveled 160 thousand km. He held on well until the last moment, until I broke him. It was a good car, blessed memory. Consumption 10-12 liters.
  • Margarita, Ekaterinoslavl. The car is what it needs, it is serviced in the garage, and even then only for small things. There are no major breakdowns, I drive and don’t complain – I sat down and drove off as they say. The Galant handles well and is also well suited for our rough roads. The 2.4-liter engine consumes 10-13 liters, depending on the type of driving.

With 2.5 engine

  • Maxim, Pyatigorsk. I have owned a Mitsubishi Galant since 2004. I service my car in a timely manner, I never skip maintenance, I buy only original spare parts - this is my recipe for the survivability of my car. The car has never broken down, despite different operating conditions. I have a 2.5-liter version with an automatic transmission. Brisk acceleration and excellent handling. The suspension is moderately energy-intensive, although sometimes breakdowns occur - after all, the chassis is tuned rigidly to eliminate roll in corners. In a word, a kind of compromise between comfort and controllability.
  • Denis, Nizhny Novgorod. Galant impressed me from the first day of the trip. The car looks brutal and sporty, and behaves the same on the road. This is one of the few cars about which we can say with confidence that appearances do not deceive. The 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine loves revs, which is very good. Fuel consumption in the city is 12 liters, on the highway I get within 8-10 liters.
  • Nina, Perm region. Galant is the optimal car in terms of power and performance. The 2.5-liter engine is not new, but it allows you to confidently stay in city traffic, even with a reserve. And besides, the engine is very economical and reliable, in the city the consumption reaches 12 liters.
  • Mikhail, Kazan. My Galant is equipped with top equipment. The 2.5-liter engine gives the sedan enormous acceleration potential, with which you feel almost at the top - in the city and at traffic lights I overtake everyone. And on the highway you can appreciate the first-class ride quality of the Mitsubishi Galant. Still, it’s not for nothing that the car belongs to the business class, on a par with the Toyota Camry. For 2005, the car looks decent and can give any competitor a head start. The average consumption is 12 liters, and with the pedal constantly pressed to the floor it reaches 13 liters.

Generation 9

With 2.4 engine

  • Dmitry, Novosibirsk. The Galant is surprisingly well adapted to cold conditions and is not afraid of bad roads. The engine starts with half a turn and runs smoothly without any special worries. The 2.4-liter gasoline engine consumes 14-15 liters per 100 km. I was pleased that such a luxurious business sedan “loves” 92-octane gasoline.
  • Mikhail, Moscow. Great car, ideal for daily trips and long journeys. There is plenty of space in the cabin, both front and rear. There are plenty of functions, but still not at the level of modern competitors. Overall, the Galant was worth the money even in 2012, when I bought it. I still drive, I fill 15 liters of gasoline per 100 km.
  • Alexey, Saratov. Mitsubishi Galant is my first business sedan, I bought it second-hand. Before this I drove a GAZ-3110, after which I wanted a real premium car even more, albeit with some reservations. My Galant is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and consumes from 11 to 15 liters, depending on the type of driving.
  • Anton, Lipetsk. I purchased a Mitsubishi Galant in 2004 to replace a GAZ-31105. I am a district official, I needed an inexpensive and comfortable car with a personal driver. From a passenger's point of view, I like the car. It rides smoothly, there are almost no holes in the suspension, except perhaps for speed bumps. The sedan is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine producing 158 horses. In the city, we keep within 14 liters per hundred, it is possible to refuel with 92-octane gasoline. I still drive the Galante, although I’ve already had to change three drivers. The car is not new, but still reliable. Serviced regularly at the dealership.
  • Dmitry, Irkutsk. I'm happy with the car, it's an ideal car for family and work needs. I am a private entrepreneur, looking for an inexpensive business class sedan. In the mid-2000s, Galant was one of the cheapest cars in this class. I read a lot of reviews about it - everyone writes that it is reliable and perfectly suited for Russian conditions. I was convinced of this in practice, after 20 thousand mileage. My Galant is equipped with a 2.4-liter engine and automatic transmission. Consumption in the city is 14-15 liters, I fill with 92nd gasoline.
  • Oleg, Minsk. I have a 2011 Galant, with a powerful 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine. Perhaps this is the best representative of its class. The car, as they say, without show-off, looks strictly and presentable. In addition, there is nothing to catch the eye in the cabin either - I have the basic version, which does not even have a central display. But for me, the most important thing is handling and dynamics, and the Galant is in perfect order with this. Acceleration to hundreds in 11 seconds, average consumption at 14 liters.
  • Denis, Magnitogorsk. The car gives me pleasure for the whole day; I drive it for 14-15 hours. The car is used in luxury taxis, my clients are happy. The Galant is comfortable and capable of driving quickly, fortunately the 2.4-liter engine is capable of much. Consumes up to 15 liters.
  • Leonid, Bryansk. In 2017, my Galant turns 10 years old, during which time the car has shown itself well. Fast and reliable, with a full five-seater interior and a huge trunk. With a 2.4 engine it consumes from 12 to 14 l/100 km.
  • Karina. Sochi. I liked the car, it's worth the money. Powerful and comfortable, high level of reliability. Consumption is 14 liters, I fill it with 92nd gasoline.
    Alexey, Dnepropetrovsk. I have a Galant since 2010, the 2.4-liter version with an automatic transmission. I praise the car for its decent dynamics for a business class, impenetrable suspension, minimal roll in corners, functional interior and good handling. Consumption in the city is 14 liters.

The current Mitsubishi Galant - a car not so much Japanese as American - is completely unnecessary in Europe. In Europe, no one is waiting for the Galant, but we (in the automotive sense), although not America, are certainly not Europe. Remembering the still beloved previous generations of Mitsubishi Galant, which we drove, drive, and will drive for a long time, everyone asked: “When?” Russia is an important market for Mitsubishi, and our opinion cannot be ignored. So we got what we wanted.

An assessment of the design of the 9th generation Mitsubishi Galant is unlikely to be news: it (especially in the front part) is strange, incomprehensible, and for some, even simply ugly. A massive hump in the middle of the hood, an inexpressive radiator grille, but most importantly – the headlights! The headlights (where are you - the lovely squinted strips of light elements of the Mitsubishi Galant of previous generations?) replaced some quadrangles from the Volga.

One of the managers of the Mitsubishi distributor noted that so far the Galant is selling a little worse than expected. Obviously, in the first months of Russian sales, most of those who were waiting for the Mitsubishi Galant (and many were waiting for it) simply did not have time to try the car on the road - which means they only appreciated the appearance. And they didn’t like the appearance. The design of the 9th generation Mitsubishi Galant (2004) has absolutely nothing in common with the style of previous Mitsubishi Galant.

But they greet you based on their clothes and see you off... On the road, your opinion of the car becomes much better.
Firstly, behind the controversial appearance of the car there is a huge interior.
Secondly, all the controls in the Mitsubishi Galant are clear and in place; With an abundance of options, you don’t feel overwhelmed with information. There are slightly more buttons in the Mitsubishi Galant than in the Lancer, despite the much more modest configuration of the latter. The only things that aren’t very good are the overly large steering wheel and the radio buttons that don’t fit into the center console. Here the designers were again not up to par.
Thirdly, the car pleased with its convenient details. The main thing is: an electric driver's seat with a wide range of adjustments, clear parking sensors and a wide armrest with a spacious box.
Fourthly, and this is the main thing: the Mitsubishi Galant is very good on the go. The car handles just fine, although the steering wheel itself is not the most comfortable in grip. The engine and gearbox work almost perfectly, although many will want more agility from such a car. The moderately stiff suspension, which provides decent comfort, is good both on a straight line and in corners. The Mitsubishi bites into the road, maintaining good stability on any reasonable trajectory.

But you don’t want to drive recklessly behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Galant – it’s not easy to “light up” it. The adaptive automatic transmission adapts to the driver, but does not give him unnecessary freedom.

America saw the new Mitsubishi Galant in April 2003, but we saw it only 3 years later. Residents of the USA and Canada can choose a 3.8-liter 230-horsepower V6, but we only have a 2.4-liter 158-horsepower unit. The new Mitsubishi Galant was almost entirely developed in the States and for the States: design in California, engineering in Michigan, assembly in Illinois. It’s not hard to guess which Mitsubishi country’s residents were seen sitting in the driver’s and passenger seats of the Galant.

Bottom line: the car could be better. Under the hood there could be a 3.8-liter engine and a manual transmission; novice drivers would be happy with the ESP system. And the Japanese could entrust the design to their own specialists. But how long would it take to prepare such a Mitsubishi Galant, and would we need it like this?

Prices for the 9th generation Mitsubishi Galant in 2007 on the Russian market they start from 757 thousand rubles.

We will talk about the Mitsubishi Galant (9th generation). I don’t post photos - everyone knows the car in principle, even though it is not the most “promoted” of cars of this class.

1. Select a car.
It took me a long time to choose a car. I was only interested in the used market, class D and E. Naturally, the choice in this class is not the largest, but still there is. Main priorities: large, moderately powerful, automatic ("old", reliable), comfortable soft suspension, reliable engine and, in general, reliability and simplicity of the main components... Well, in general, nothing new, what more could you want from a car)))) Outwardly, I liked the Camry in the 40 body, the Mitsubishi Galant, the Hyundai Grander, the Nissan Tiana, and perhaps that’s all (right-hand drive: I didn’t consider the Mark, etc., although the Mark is certainly good). I didn’t like the appearance of the Skoda Superb, Chevrolet Epic, etc., so the technical part was no longer so interesting to me.

2. Analysis of "practice".
I studied these cars for a long time through personal communication with the owners, read forums and reviews, etc. I won’t write for a long time what I realized for myself, but one contender has dropped out (this is the Nissan Tiana), leaving Camry, Hyundai Grander and Galant. Here the choice was more difficult, but the Galant still won in terms of price-quality ratio; it surpassed the Camry and Grander quite easily. I won’t describe the agony of choosing between them.

3. External and internal appearance of the 9th generation galant and main characteristics.
A lot has been said and written here; not everyone will like the car’s appearance. But if you look closely, there is nothing ugly about it, graceful, smooth, muscular forms, a “peasant” car in the full sense of the word. The ground clearance is high 165 cm, the length and internal usable space are huge, the trunk is large and comfortable. The 2.4 engine is a reliable one that has been installed in Mitsubishi for a long time, there are no complaints about it, it pulls very vigorously. The weight of the car is very impressive 1650 kg. I am a supporter of “heavy” cars - safety comes first. Despite the fact that the Camry is lighter, and there are a little more horses, the Galant is still faster (the Camry owners themselves admitted this), apparently this is due not only to the engine but also to the automatic transmission, but more on that later. Inside, everything is very laconic, but at the same time “rich” materials of excellent quality, I don’t know how it is in the basic configuration, but in the “maximum” configuration (leather, sunroof, Rockford audio system) everything is very nice, “plastic” on the surface (in fact not plastic) perforated, rubberized, moderately soft material, I have never seen anything like this to the touch. There is no creaking, there are no gaps at all. The car is assembled simply amazingly. Even many premium classes of the present time (mostly assembled in our country) are not of such build quality can boast. The seats are very comfortable, the driver's seat is electrically adjustable in all planes. The quality of the leather is very good. The "Rockfraud" music is top notch (relatively speaking, of course))), Mark Moiseevich Levinson will probably be better, of course, but for me this is not the most important thing in life) ).

4. The car is in motion.
It's just a fairy tale. The smooth ride, noise and overall comfort are simply super for a car in this price category. May the Camry drivers forgive me, but in terms of smoothness and overall comfort, the Galant wins, which is why I chose it over the Camry. The car just floats, the road, or rather its absence, is not felt, the suspension simply swallows everything and does not break through, I have never seen such a suspension in cars of this class, it is better only on the 120 Pradika, but this is a different car and a lot has already been said about it. The automatic transmission is something with something, it shifts smoothly and is not noticeable at all, even though it is a 4th gearbox, it is very cool in everything, it and the engine understand others instantly, the relationship is excellent. The speed is felt only after 140-150 km/h, the power reserve is large. I'm not a racer, but if necessary, the car picks up speed very quickly when overtaking and other extreme situations; there is also a manual gear shift mode. There was a case where I swapped with an acquaintance for a while: he was a Camry and I was a gallant to him. He turned out to be an honest man, he admitted that he liked everything about the Galante more, especially the suspension, and so I ask: “what else,” he says: “well, you know, you can’t explain it that way... - like in everything in general. .." I understood him. Well, you know how in love you can’t explain why you love, or like in the old lobster movie: “well, can you tell me a song...” For those who suddenly don’t know - even though the car is a Japanese brand, it is only half Japanese, or even less .))) The engine and gearbox are Japanese and so on... The car was completely assembled in the USA, and even though we don’t like America there, the cars, especially at that time, were assembled to a very high quality.

5. Ending.
there is a lot more that can be written. For me there is only one conclusion. There are no competitors in this price category for a car in this class (at least for me). In 2007-2008, a Camry at maximum speed cost approximately 850 TR, a Galant at maximum speed approximately 820 TR. That is, a new car is close in price. Now the average price of a good Camry 07-08 is 600 TR, a good Galant is 450 TR. Everything suggests that the Toyota brand is more popular and loses less value. But this does not indicate the “true” price of the car.

These cars were first produced in Japan, and since 1994, cars assembled at the Illinois plant have been available in American markets. First of all, Mitsubishi brand cars deserve their awards due to their high consumer qualities. Today, many car enthusiasts buy cars from this company. After taking part in numerous rallies, the company began developing a completely new model called the Mitsubishi Galant 9 VR-4.

This model is a sporty example of the model version. The sports model had a 2.49 liter V6 twinturbo engine, a 4-cylinder petrol engine (such an engine can often be found in 1992 models). All VR-4 models have all-wheel drive. This car has a 4-speed transmission.

Specifications

Type Volume Power Torque Overclocking Maximum speed Number of cylinders
Petrol 2.4 l 158 hp 213 H*m 11.5 sec. 200 km/h 4
Petrol 2.4 l 160 hp 213 H*m 11.5 sec. 200 km/h 4
Petrol 3.8 l 230 hp 250 H*m - - V6
Petrol 3.8 l 250 hp 329 H*m 11.5 sec. 200 km/h V6

The car engine is adapted for countries with cold climates.

All cars that are delivered today to Russia are equipped with only one engine - a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder MIVEC engine with 4 valves per cylinder, and an ECI-MULTI injection distribution system is also provided. This power unit has one important advantage - the presence of an automatic octane correction system, which allows you to fill the engine with 92-octane gasoline. With it, the engine can produce 158 hp. and 213 Nm, which it reaches at 4,000 rpm. per minute Together with the engine, you can only use an automatic transmission - a four-speed automatic transmission INVECS-II Sports Mode with a manual gear selection function.

The 158 engine doesn’t have crazy dynamics, so it’s better not to run “traffic light” races on it. This car was created with the American consumer in mind. In general, the car can be described as soft and impressive. These qualities are present in literally every detail. But this does not mean that driving it fast is prohibited.

The INVECS-II transmission is an automatic type and adapts itself to the driver’s individual driving style. In dynamic mode, each gear spins to the red zone, and when the gas is released, the box continues to hold speed, slowly switching to a higher gear in order to respond in time to pressing the accelerator pedal. In relaxed driving mode, passengers should not even notice the gear shift.

The Mitsubishi Galant 9 has a battery with increased capacity, more than 70% of all parts are galvanized, and the bottom is partially treated with an anti-corrosion coating. Engine 2.4 liters and 158 hp. allows you to accelerate the car to 100 km/h. already 11.5 seconds after the start. And the maximum speed is 200 km/h. Fuel, depending on driving conditions, ranges from 7.2 to 13.5 liters. per 100 km.

All versions are supplied with only one engine - 4G94 (R4 16V), having a volume of 2 liters. and GDI direct injection (145 hp), and an INVECS-II four-speed automatic transmission.

The engine capacity is 2378 cc and its torque is 213 N.M. The average fuel consumption is 9.5 liters. The fuel tank has a capacity of 67 liters.

Interior of Mitsubishi Galant 9

If we talk about the interior, it is important to emphasize the following: buttons have appeared that allow you to control the cruise control and audio system; they are located on the steering wheel itself, or rather on its front part (before that they were located at the back). The interior trim has also changed - new materials “like wood” were used (before that, another material was used – “like aluminum”), and the backlighting of the car’s control systems and instruments has also changed; previously it was blue, but now it has become red.

Now let's look at all this in more detail. When the car was released on the Russian market, it turned out that its price was equal to the cost of top-end versions of “D” class cars, which include the well-known Hyundai NF and. At the same time, the dimensions of the 9th generation Galant can compete with more expensive rivals, such as, and.

So, let's go inside the car. We will immediately see that the front seats do not have an American profile at all - the back has lateral support that reliably fixes the driver’s body. Thanks to the electrically adjustable driver's seat, you can easily sit comfortably behind the wheel. The only evidence that the Mitsubishi Galant 9 was made by a foreign manufacturer is that the steering column does not have longitudinal adjustment.

The blue backlight, which so irritated all drivers, was replaced with “European-type” orange backlight. The cruise control and audio control buttons have been moved from the rear of the steering wheel to the front, making them easier and more convenient to use. The front panel uses soft plastic, but not particularly high quality. Although there is a duplicate speedometer scale in miles, the instrument panel is very informative and has been created with care.

The back seat of the car is very spacious. If passengers of average height are sitting in front, those in the back can easily cross their legs and feel very comfortable. If you look at the width, there is enough space for three adults, but still the one who sits in the middle will not be in the best position. The cushion on the rear sofa is molded for only two people, which means when you pass a speed bump, the passenger who is in the center will slightly touch the ceiling with his head. Be that as it may, the spacious interior is one of the main features of the Mitsubishi Galant, which also compensates for the somewhat simple finishing.

The steering wheel has a mechanical tilt adjustment; the steering wheel in this car is not adjustable for reach. The basic Intense package includes cruise control and an audio system with 6 speakers and a servo drive for each window. The expensive Instyle package includes driver's seat servo drives, leather seats, an electric sunroof and a high-quality Rockford Fosgate audio system with a subwoofer and 8 speakers, its power is 650 W. For safety, there are airbags, 6 of them in total, in addition, the seat belts are equipped with pretensioners. In safety tests conducted in the USA, NHTSA Mitsubishi was able to win 5 stars and thus receive the highest rating.

Suspension

The Mitsubishi Galant car has the following characteristics of the front suspension: it is created according to the scheme, on the rear side there is a multi-link. By European standards, such a suspension can be considered quite soft; it allows you to sway a little on the wavy curves of the asphalt.

Essentially, the model represents an underrated alternative to other representative German-made cars. The manufacturer presents this car in two body styles - a spacious station wagon and a sedan, but any of them makes this car beautifully designed, refined, stylish, powerful and comfortable. But despite all the advantages of this car and the recent update of its appearance, the Mitsubishi Galant, as before, remains not the most noticeable and fashionable.

It is worth noting that, in general, the ninth generation of the Galant car is a reliable and durable car. Today, a well-maintained nine can cost between $13,000 and $17,000.

The model runs on a gasoline engine with a volume of 2.4 liters and a power of 158 horsepower, it has a four-speed automatic transmission, which allows the car to accelerate to hundreds in just 11.5 seconds, the maximum permissible speed of this car is 200 km /h. The average fuel consumption is 9.5 liters. for 100 km.

Main technical characteristics of the car:

  • Body – class E sedan;
  • Manufacturer: Japanese company Mitsubishi;
  • There are five places in total;
  • Engine – petrol;
  • Engine volume – 2.4 liters;
  • Power – 158 hp;
  • Transmission – five-speed automatic;
  • Drive – front type;
  • The maximum available speed is 200 km/h.

To summarize, we get a spacious sedan with comfortable suspension settings, good ride comfort, excellent sound insulation and a good list of equipment. This is a business class sedan with a representative and at the same time sporty appearance. Although, perhaps this car is not for fans of driving characteristics, it has strong lateral swing, roll when cornering and a large turning radius.

If you want to have a prestigious and comfortable car, then the Mitsubishi Galant 9 is for you.
