The seat in the car is quite comfortable and a special merit in this is the Recaro seats. The first thought after boarding the Opel Corsa OPC is how uncomfortable these seats are, but after a little time on the road you notice that your back does not get tired and you can continue, continue and continue moving. And this is with the front seats adjustable in only 6 directions. The interior is quite spacious for such a compact car. With a height of 175 cm, I do not feel tightness either in my legs, or above my head, either in front or behind. The trunk is very small, and the lack of a spare tire makes you think about long trips in this car. The Opel Corsa OPC is simply a hurricane in motion, especially starting from 3000 rpm. It constantly provokes active driving. It confidently holds its trajectory, behaves well at high speeds, provided that the road is smooth, but if the road has imperfections in the surface and twists, then the car becomes nervous and twitchy at speeds far beyond the deprivation of a license. The car has enough power always and everywhere, provided that the appropriate gear is engaged. A constantly flashing stabilization system icon, especially on wet asphalt, “says” that there is sufficient power. The 6-speed manual gearbox pleases with a fairly clear shift mechanism, but there is still work to be done on quick shifts, especially from first to second gear.

I began to notice that the passenger sitting on the right was constantly sitting in some kind of tension, although I myself was absolutely calm. Having passed as a passenger in my car, I understood the experiences of the person sitting on the right. He is shaking and being pressed into both the back and side support of the seat. The lack of an engine temperature indicator and the small capacity of the fuel tank (only 45 liters) are frustrating. If the first problem can at least somehow be dealt with using the information display, Setting and BC buttons, then I don’t see a solution to combat the second problem - from refueling to refueling. Conclusion: now, after a little less than 6,000 km, I can say that I am completely satisfied with the car. Every time I get into the Opel Corsa OPC I am happy like the first time. The upcoming difficulties with “childhood diseases” are not at all scary.

Advantages : appearance, dynamics, driving performance.

Flaws : small tank. No spare wheel.

In 2014, a new generation of the regular version was released, and in 2015, the manufacturer introduced a new generation, which received a new, more modern design with aggressive and attractive details, as well as improved characteristics.

Exterior

The manufacturer has significantly changed the appearance of the car, just like with the previous generation, the model is offered only in the body of a 3-door hatchback. The car received deep reliefs on the hood and a small horizontal air intake on it. The model has stylish aggressive optics with a lens. The bumper has a large grille, a small lip and air intakes with chrome trim.


Since this is a sports car, the manufacturer used flared wheel arches to add aggression and muscularity. The model has a beautiful stamping line at the bottom and at the top that goes from the door handle to the taillight. The rear view mirrors are simple in principle; they are mounted on a base. In the basic version, the model has 14th wheels, but 15th and even 16th wheels can be installed as an option.

At the rear, you immediately notice the large aerodynamic bumper. The optics are very similar to Astra, the shape is almost identical. The trunk lid is embossed, and under the bumper there is a diffuser and 2 exhaust pipes.

Technical characteristics of Opel Corsa OPS

This is a sports version and therefore there is only one engine, a 16-valve in-line petrol engine with a capacity of 1.6 liters. The engine is turbocharged, which allows it to produce 207 horsepower and 280 H*m of torque. Acceleration to hundreds takes 7 seconds, and the top speed is 230 km/h.


The engine is offered only with a manual 6-speed gearbox, which transmits all torque to the front axle. If you drive calmly, then you will need 10 liters in the city cycle, and 6 liters on the highway.

The car stops with the help of an excellent Brembo braking system; the front discs are ventilated. The suspension remains from the regular version - independent at the front and semi-independent at the rear.

Interior


The interior is basically simple, but it looks good. There are excellent seats in front with good lateral support. There is not much free space, but in principle it is enough. This is a 5-seater car, but the rear 3 seats can hardly accommodate the stated number of people.

The center console received small air deflectors and an alarm button. Then everything is simple, it is a large multimedia touch display with a small number of touch buttons. Next we are greeted with the usual knobs for setting up the climate control system. Then there is a cigarette lighter and a niche for small items.


The driver's seat is decorated with a 3-spoke steering wheel with a small number of controls for controlling the audio system. The instrument panel consists of analog tachometer and speedometer gauges and a large on-board computer in the middle. Just above there is a small screen, which is a fuel level sensor.

The trunk here is small, its volume is 285 liters, but if you do not use the back row, you can fold it down and get 1090 liters.

Price Opel Corsa OPC (2015-2016)


The cost of this model is unknown; German manufacturers did not provide this information. It is known that the car in the basic version will have the following:

At the beginning of February 2015, Opel officially declassified the “E-generation” Corsa OPC “hot” hatchback. The world presentation of the car will take place in March at an exhibition in Geneva, and this summer the compact “lighter” should reach the European market.

As before, the “charged” Corsa E is available only in a three-door body solution, and in its general design it repeats the “civilian” model - a sloping hood, stylish head optics with LED “corners” of running lights, a domed roof and short overhangs. However, in the OPC version, the appearance is emphasized by a developed aerodynamic body kit, which not only plays a decorative role, but also has high functionality, increasing downforce.

Distinctive features of the “front” part of the Opel Corsa OPC with the factory index E are a front bumper of a different shape, a radiator grille with a large mesh, and a hood with a ventilation slot. The already dynamic silhouette of the car is emphasized by side “skirts” and branded 17-inch rims (optional - an inch larger).
The rear of the new generation hot hatch is topped with a wing on the trunk lid and a raised bumper with a small diffuser and a pair of exhaust pipes.

The overall dimensions of the Opel Corsa OPC body are similar to those of the fifth-generation three-door Corsa: 4021 mm in length, of which 2510 mm are on the wheelbase, 1479 mm in height and 1736 mm in width. The ground clearance of the German lighter is 130 mm.

The interior of the “charged” Corsa E is designed in the same style as the interior of regular Corsa, but the sporting potential of the model is emphasized by a multifunction steering wheel truncated at the bottom, a different gear selector and Recaro seats. Otherwise, this is a completely “civilian” model with a 7-inch color display of the IntelliLink multimedia complex, a neat climate control unit, colorful instruments and well-adjusted ergonomics.

At the front, the Opel Corsa OPC with the E index has bucket seats with an excellent profile and a wide range of adjustment options. The rear sofa is as comfortable as in the “civilian” version. And the volume of the luggage compartment is no different - from 285 to 1090 liters, its shape is comfortable, there are no protruding interior elements.

Specifications. Under the hood of the OPC version of the Opel Corsa is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder Ecotec engine equipped with direct injection and a turbocharger, which is combined with an exhaust manifold. As a result, the front-wheel drive hatchback has 207 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 245 Nm of possible torque, available in the range of 1900-5800 rpm (the overboost function allows the engine to briefly generate another 35 Nm).
The unit, working in tandem with a six-gear manual transmission, accelerates the hot hatch to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds, and the speedometer needle stops only when it reaches 230 km/h (peak speed). With such a high potential, the “charged” Corsa has good fuel efficiency - 7.5 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers in mixed mode.

The “heated” three-door Opel Corsa is built on the basis of a regular model with the same suspension architecture. However, the “lighter” is equipped with stiffer Koni shock absorbers and springs, a thicker rear stabilizer and a ground clearance reduced by 10 mm. In addition, the hot hatch has retuned steering and a powerful braking system (the diameter of the ventilated front discs is 308 mm, the rear ones are 44 mm smaller).

For the Corsa OPC with the E index, an optional Perfomance Package is available, which combines a mechanical differential lock with a Drexler multi-plate clutch, a stiffer suspension, Brembo brakes and exclusive 18-inch diameter rollers.

Options and prices. Sales of the E-generation Opel Corsa OPC will begin on the European market in the summer of 2015, when the model reaches our country is unknown. Prices for the German “lighter” have not yet been disclosed, but Karl-Thomas Neumann (Opel manager) said that an attractive price tag will be attached to the model.

The debut of the new Opel Corsa OPC took place on the stage of the international spring Geneva Motor Show in 2015. In fact, the model is a full-fledged second generation. The new product received the in-plant index E and the current corporate design. What catches your eye are the fancy shaped headlights with a cutout at the bottom and stylish sections of LED daytime running lights. The radiator grille is made in the form of a rounded pentagonal shield and is a plastic mesh with many small elongated cells. On top of it is the manufacturer’s logo and a thin horizontally oriented trim in body color. Below, on the front bumper, you can see a small elongated air intake, covered with a thin plastic grille, along the edges of which there are small recesses with stylish chrome inserts. In general, the car received a rather interesting and memorable design, emphasizing the “charged” character of the model.

Dimensions

Opel Corsa OPC is a hot three-door B class hatchback. Its overall dimensions are: length 4021 mm, width 1736 mm, height 1479 mm, and wheelbase 2510 mm. The clearance of a city lighter is low compared to a sports lighter - only 135 millimeters. This ground clearance is typical for models designed for active driving. Thanks to their low center of gravity, they have excellent stability, easily navigate sharp turns and, most importantly, are less prone to rollovers.

The trunk of the hatchback has a volume typical for this class. With the backrests of the second row of seats raised, up to 285 liters of free space remain in the rear. This spaciousness is quite enough for the daily tasks of a city dweller, but even a trip to the airport with several suitcases on board can force the owner to sacrifice seats in the cabin. If you fold the backrests of the rear row of seats, you can free up to 1090 liters of usable space.

Technical characteristics of Opel Corsa OPC

The new generation of the hot hatch received an Ecotec engine, a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, classic for this class. Despite the rather familiar units, thanks to factory modifications, the car can give a lot of positive emotions even to a sophisticated car enthusiast.

The Corsa's engine was an in-line turbocharged gasoline four with a volume of 1598 cubic centimeters. Despite the modest volume, the advanced turbocharger allowed engineers to squeeze out 207 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 280 Nm of torque in the range from 1900 to 5800 rpm. With such a herd under the hood, the lightweight hatchback accelerates from zero to hundreds in 6.8 seconds, and the maximum speed, in turn, will be 230 kilometers per hour. Despite the high power and amazing dynamics, the engine is quite economical. Fuel consumption will be 9.9 liters of gasoline per hundred in city driving, 6.2 liters on the highway and 7.5 liters of fuel per hundred in the combined driving cycle.

Bottom line

The second generation Corsa is a bright representative of a class that was once popular in Europe. It has a stylish and provocative design that will perfectly highlight the character and individuality of its owner. Despite its modest size, such a car will not disappear into the gray everyday traffic and will not get lost in a large parking lot of a shopping center. The interior is a realm of high-quality finishing materials, sporty ergonomics and comfort. Even heavy traffic during rush hour will not cause the slightest inconvenience to the driver. The manufacturer understands perfectly well that cars of this kind, first of all, should provide driving pleasure. That is why the hatchback is equipped with an excellent line of units that are a fusion of innovative technologies and many years of engineering experience. Corsa OPC is a sports model for every day.

Opel Corsa OPC

Opel Corsa is one of the leaders in sales in class B. Interest in these cars is due to price and proper quality. The manufacturer decided to please its customers with a sports version of the OPC. Note that almost every Opel model has this configuration. Under the hood of the Corsa there is now 192 hp. and a high pressure turbine.

BEST QUALITIES: powerful turbocharged engine.
WORST QUALITIES: soft suspension, rolls.

The most practical cars for a metropolis are class B cars. They are nimble and easy to park in tight parking lots. Most often, such babies travel alone, so the size of the trunk is not particularly concerning. Plus, modern ergonomic technologies provide both driver and passenger with quite decent space. They say about such people “there is more on the inside than on the outside.”

Of course, many people are concerned about engine power. Small cars are equipped with economical and not very dynamic engines. But I want something more powerful. And the torment begins: either take class C and lose maneuverability, or endure humiliation at traffic light starts. But there is a way out: you need a little athlete.

Two prominent representatives of this symbiosis are the Opel Corsa OPC and Renault Clio Sport. By the way, the German manufacturer awards almost every model with a sports modification. Renault, although not so punctual, is famous for its repeated victories in rallies, so the French company’s experience is also not lacking. Unfortunately, we do not sell a car like the Renault Megan ST, although in Europe it is in small but stable demand. But Russian buyers have the opportunity to become the owner of a Clio Sport.

We simply could not help but compare the charged Opel and Renault. Of course, both cars belong to the same class; the engines differ in volume, but are identical in power.

Due to the aggressive body kit and huge spoiler on the trunk lid, the Corsa looks more sporty. The harsh character of this car is emphasized by huge 17‑inch wheels. Clio looks simpler, as if it doesn’t want to once again reveal its real capabilities. Only wide door sills and heavily inflated wheel arches speak of sportiness. Gills near the front fenders help dissipate heat from the engine and brakes more quickly. The rear bumper is combined with a diffuser. Even the exhaust pipes of the Clio's bifurcated exhaust system are hidden so that you won't notice. The same cannot be said about the Corsa. The exhaust pipe is located in the middle of the bumper and has a triangular shape. Car interiors are in harmony with the exterior. Opel claims leadership through sports “buckets” with progressive lateral support. They secure the body tightly. The range of settings is enough to not only make a person of any size comfortable, but also to adjust the seats for an active driving style.

When you're inside the Clio, it's hard to realize that you're sitting in a sports car. You can guess this from the inscriptions on the door sills and emblems on the seat headrests. The seats can be considered moderately comfortable and have sufficient adjustments. You can also order sportier Recaro seats. Ergonomics turned out to be approximately the same in both cars.

Under the hood of the Opel lies a 1.6 liter engine that produces 192 hp. due to the installed turbine. The Renault has five more horses, but it has a two-liter naturally aspirated engine. As for torque, the Corsa has 15 Nm more than the Clio (230 Nm). They can be used in the range from 1950 to 5850 rpm. In the Clio, peak torque occurs at 5550 min-1. Due to the presence of a turbine, the Corsa engine “spins” much more readily. The Clio revs up to 4000 min-1 with difficulty, but once you cross this mark, intense acceleration immediately begins. In the Corsa, the engine also comes to life after 4000 rpm, but it reaches them with lightning speed. This is confirmed by elasticity measurements. Acceleration from 60 to 100 km/h in fourth gear takes Opel 5.7 seconds,
and Renault - 7.1 s.

The most interesting information for many is acceleration to 100 km/h. But none of the test subjects were able to achieve the figures stated by the manufacturers. The Corsa accelerated to hundreds in 7.9 s (7.2 - Opel data), Clio - in 7.7 s (6.9 - Renault data). Let's forgive this slyness, because acceleration is not as important as, for example, handling. By the way, the chassis of our cars are configured differently. The Opel Corsa has an energy-intensive suspension, which, however, is prone to roll and sway. Engineers focused on comfort. On the Renault Clio, we also recognize the suspension as energy-intensive, but characterized by greater elasticity. It accurately follows the terrain of the road, following the trajectory of movement as clearly as possible. This is confirmed by measurements. The slalom speed in an unloaded state reaches 63.5 km/h for the Corsa, and 66 km/h for the Clio. Opel submitted to the short change at a speed of 70 km/h at the entrance and 52 km/h at the exit. For Renault, this exercise was carried out at a speed of 74 km/h at the entrance and 51 km/h at the exit. The long-shift speed for the Corsa was 130.3 km/h, for the Clio - 133.3 km/h. It seems that such a minor difference of 2-3 km/h does not play a big role. But that's not true. A difference of one kilometer leads to the development of a skid, which is very difficult to extinguish. In addition, Corsa requires constant adjustment of the trajectory. This is partly overcome in the Clio by having identical front and rear track sizes. From this we can conclude that the Clio follows the given trajectory much more accurately. The “German” is saved by a more informative steering wheel (2.4 turns from lock to lock). The Clio's steering wheel is too light, and you need to turn it more intensely (2.8 turns).

The winner in the Braking category was the Frenchman. When stopping from 100 km/h, it beats the Opel Corsa OPC by one meter. And from 170 km/h the difference in braking is only 17 m (107 m versus 124 m). Both cars met the standards, but the difference is obvious. Apparently, not only brakes play a role here, but also properly selected standard tires.

Our verdict

Both cars are perfect for everyday use in a large metropolis with constant traffic jams and a lack of parking. Their power reserve will allow you to win at traffic light starts, as well as get maximum pleasure from active driving on country roads with a lot of turns or in amateur sprints. All that remains is to decide, take Opel Corsa OPC with the striking appearance of an athlete, but a softer and more comfortable suspension, or Renault Clio Sport with a discreet appearance, but an excellent chassis.
