UAZ Hunter roof dimensions. UAZ Hunter - review and technical specifications

The Russian SUV UAZ Hunter, which replaced the iconic UAZ-469/3151 models, entered mass production at the facilities of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant on November 19, 2003, after which it almost immediately entered the market. The car continued the glorious traditions of its legendary ancestors, winning honor and respect from various segments of the population, and was updated several times during its life cycle. The latest modernization to date affected the Hunter in February 2016, but it was limited only to the appearance of new safety systems - Isofix mounts on the rear seat, a driver's seat belt warning indicator and a three-point belt for the middle passenger of the "gallery".

The appearance of the UAZ Hunter Classic instantly shows a military bearing - the SUV looks absolutely brutal and archaic, no matter what angle you look at it from. The purely utilitarian five-door car body is completely devoid of streamlining, but its entire appearance demonstrates its readiness to conquer any off-road terrain - a simple front end with round optics and a flat hood, “pumped up” sidewalls with a high roof and huge wheel arches, as well as a monumental rear with a suspended “spare tire” and compact flashlights.

The overall length of the Hunter is 4100 mm, of which the wheelbase is 2380 mm, the width does not exceed 2010 mm (excluding side mirrors - 1730 mm), and the height is 2025 mm with 210 mm clearance under the “belly”. In “combat” form, the car weighs 1845 kg, and its total weight slightly exceeds 2.5 tons.

The interior of the Ulyanovsk SUV is extremely ascetic and unremarkable to match its utilitarian essence. There is not even any talk about any entertainment options here - all the instrument gauges on the front panel are exclusively analog, and the control of the usual “stove”, light and other functions is carried out using large buttons. The large steering wheel and the “clumsy” finishing materials do not stand out from the general concept.

The interior of the UAZ Hunter is designed to accommodate five people: the front passengers are given amorphous seats, devoid of even a hint of lateral support, with a minimum number of adjustments, and the rear passengers do not live any better due to the shapeless sofa, although they are offered sufficient space.

The cargo compartment of the UAZ Hunter Classic in its standard form holds 1130 liters of luggage, and with the second row of seats folded in a ratio of 60:40 - 2564 liters. It’s just that the “hold” is in no way separated from the passenger cabin, but it has a wide opening and a rather convenient shape.

Specifications.“Hunter” is equipped with only one gasoline engine - this is an in-line four-cylinder naturally aspirated unit ZMZ-409.10 with a displacement of 2.7 liters (2693 cubic centimeters), “tailored” for fuel with an octane number of at least “92”, which is equipped with distributed power technology and 16- valve timing. Its maximum output is 128 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 210 Nm of torque, realized already at 2500 rpm.
Together with the engine, a 5-speed manual gearbox and a rigidly connected part-time all-wheel drive with a 2-speed transfer case and a low-range gearbox are installed.

The Ulyanovsk SUV was equipped with in-line turbodiesel fours:

  • Initially, the car was offered a Polish 8-valve “Andoria” unit with a volume of 2.4 liters, generating 86 “horses” at 4000 rpm and 183 Nm of peak thrust at 1800 rpm.
  • In 2005, it was replaced by the domestic 2.2-liter ZMZ-51432 engine with a 16-valve timing belt, developing 114 forces at 3500 rpm and 270 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm.
  • And finally, the Hunter was equipped with a Chinese version of the 2.2-liter F-Diesel 4JB1T, the output of which is 92 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm at 2000 rpm.

The UAZ Hunter can move in three modes: 2H – the full amount of traction goes to the rear wheels; 4H – the moment is divided between the axles in a ratio of 50:50; 4L – all-wheel drive and a low range of gears to ensure maximum traction (designed for heavy off-road use).

On asphalt surfaces, the Hunter feels like a stranger - its top speed does not exceed 130 km/h, and acceleration to the first hundred takes an “eternal” 35 seconds. And the SUV eats “for two” - the average fuel consumption on a suburban highway is 13.2 liters for every 100 km in combined mode (the Ulyanovsk automaker does not disclose figures for other cycles).

But outside of hard roads, the car is in its element - it is capable of overcoming water obstacles up to 500 mm deep, and its approach and departure angles are 30 and 33 degrees, respectively.

The UAZ Hunter Classic is based on a strong ladder-type frame, to which an all-metal body and a power unit are attached in a longitudinal position. Both the front and rear of the SUV are equipped with continuous axles. In the first case, a spring design with a pair of trailing arms, a transverse link and a stabilizer is used, and in the second, several longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs are used.
By default, a hydraulic power steering is integrated into the steering system of the vehicle, and its braking system is represented by front disc mechanisms with two-piston calipers and rear drum devices.

Options and prices. On the Russian market, the “classic” UAZ Hunter in 2016 is sold at a price of 589,000 rubles.
The standard equipment of the Ulyanovsk SUV includes front and rear seat belts, 16-inch steel wheels with 225/75/R16 tires, power steering, a cigarette lighter, washable fabric seat trim and hydraulic headlight adjustment.
For an additional fee, the car can be “put” on wheels with light-alloy “rollers” and painted in “metallic” color.

This model replaced the legendary UAZ-469 (UAZ-3151), which lasted on the assembly line for more than 30 years. Hunter looks like its predecessor, but is created on a fundamentally new platform. A set of new technical solutions and the use of modern components made it possible to create an economical, dynamic, reliable, stable and comfortable SUV. At the same time, it was possible to preserve the traditional advantages of UAZs: excellent cross-country ability and low price.

The strict military bearing acquired an urban gloss and style. New, more modern, aesthetically pleasing and safe plastic bumpers with integrated foglights catch your eye. Decorative fender liners that extend onto the fenders complement the large 16-inch wheels. Instead of rotating windows, sliding windows are now installed, which improves visibility, interior ventilation and makes it easier to access the rear-view mirrors for adjusting them. The double closed loop door seal makes the car interior less noisy, helps maintain the microclimate in the cabin, and prevents the penetration of moisture. Access to the trunk is now opened by a hinged rear door (the side tailgate is installed on versions with an awning). The spare tire hung on the back door, hidden in a cover, also looks good. For a significant surcharge, Hunter can be fitted with alloy wheels and painted metallic.

The interior of the car has undergone significant changes. The interior space has ceased to be ascetic and allows the driver and passengers to sit comfortably. The front seats of a new design with fabric upholstery are longitudinally adjustable, allowing both tall drivers and people of average height to sit comfortably behind the wheel. Despite the fact that the steering column is not adjustable either in height or reach. There are only three adjustments themselves - backrest tilt, lumbar support adjustment and longitudinal. Adjustable backrest angle and lumbar support for the front seats help to properly distribute the load on the body and make long-distance travel more comfortable.

Rear passengers will also be able to sit comfortably. There is enough legroom even for very tall people. Of the adjustments for the rear seats, only backrest tilt is provided. And if desired, they can be lowered to create a sleeping place. For an additional fee, you can install two more seats in the Hunter's luggage compartment.

Despite the high seating position, there are no footrests. The dashboard is made of dark gray plastic. The speedometer is located somewhere under the steering wheel, so readings from it are extremely difficult, since they are hidden behind the right spoke of the steering wheel and the right steering column switch. On the center console there are sensors for oil pressure, battery charging, engine temperature and the amount of fuel in the tanks (there are two of them in the Hunter). But it is also difficult to read information from them, since the devices are not facing the driver, but are located parallel to the dashboard line.

Designed for use in harsh Russian winter conditions, Hunter received insulated floors covered with carpet. The heater is turned on by pressing a switch under the center console. There are no air temperature controls here - the toggle switch only regulates the blowing force (medium and strong mode). If it is very cold outside, the driver can open the damper, and warm air will flow into the cabin directly from the fan, which will allow the air to warm up much faster. Blowers are only provided under the windshield and under the instrument panel.

UAZ Hunter is equipped with one of four engines: a new 16-valve petrol engine ZMZ-409.10 (volume 2.7 liters, power 140 hp) equipped with fuel injection and exhaust gas aftertreatment systems (meets Euro II standards), Ulyanovsk UMZ-409.10 (carburetor, 2.9 liters, power 100 hp), diesel ZMZ-5143 (volume 2.24 liters, power 98 hp) Polish turbodiesel 4ST90-Andoria (volume 2.4 liters, power 86 hp. With.). All cars are equipped with a LUK clutch, a 5-speed gearbox, a helical transfer case, new Spicer axles, and front disc brakes. The Hunter's front suspension became spring, while the rear remained leaf spring. This combination allows you to swallow small potholes on the road.

Easy to operate, UAZ Hunter is unpretentious in maintenance. Its high dynamic characteristics, moderate fuel consumption, excellent cross-country ability and large load capacity will certainly please the future owner.

Did the creators of the UAZ 469 think that their car would become a legend of the Soviet automobile industry? Most likely they were unlikely, because when creating the Soviet all-terrain vehicle, the developers thought about high cross-country ability, maintainability, low cost, simplicity of design and reliability, and what place their vehicle would take in history was not so important, the main thing was that the vehicle would maximally satisfy the needs of the army. Nevertheless, the UAZ is one of the symbols of the Soviet Union and, thanks to the efforts of its designers, one of the best serial all-terrain vehicles in the world in terms of cross-country ability. The production of the UAZ 469 began back in 1972; in 2003, production of the modernized UAZ began at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Assembly Plant, the car was named Hunter , which translates from English as hunter. Assembly UAZ Hunter carried out not only in Ulyanovsk, but also in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchug. In this article we will pay attention to the innovations of Ulyanovsk residents that were introduced into Hunter, we will pay attention to the technical characteristics UAZ Hunter , as well as a general overview of the body and interior.

Appearance and body:

Like UAZ 469, UAZ Hunter It is produced in a five-door body, the roof can be hard - metal, or soft - tent. UAZ Hunter can be easily distinguished from the 469th model by its plastic bumpers with built-in fog lights. The front part is decorated with a plastic lining, please note attention to the photo of the front part of the UAZ. When reviewing the UAZ from the rear, you will find that the spare wheel in the Hunter is mounted on the fifth door, and the trunk door itself is now one and, unlike the 469, the door is solid and opens to the side, and does not consist of two parts. Due to the above-described plastic bumpers that UAZ installed in order to reduce the likelihood of a pedestrian being injured in a collision, as well as due to the modified exhaust system, the angles of approach and departure were significantly reduced. Corner UAZ entry Hunter is 30 degrees, and the departure angle is 33 degrees, which is less than last generation. The new UAZ sits on wheels of a larger diameter than its predecessor, UAZ tire size Hunter - 225/75 R16. Upon purchase, a hunter can be retrofitted with alloy wheels, and the future owner can buy a UAZ painted in metallic, previously this was something of a fantasy.

Salon and Equipment:

As before, getting into the salon UAZ – This is not an easy task for everyone. The body remained the same, and accordingly the narrow doorways did not become wider. When getting behind the wheel, you can grab the steering wheel itself, and when sitting in the front passenger seat, you can grab a special handle located in the dashboard. UAZ instrument cluster Hunter in general has not changed, but the torpedo now has a plastic covering, the plastic is hard and cheap, but this is a significant step towards increasing comfort. You can see the appearance of the torpedo in the photo. It is still not convenient to read the speedometer readings; the fact is that the right spoke of the steering wheel almost always overlaps the speedometer. On UAZ Huntera cigarette lighter appeared, which was not on the 469; an ashtray would have been nice, but the men driving such an all-terrain vehicle will be able to do without it. Pivoting windows, as on the 469 model, are also a thing of the past; now the side windows slide to the side. The downside is that in winter, when the guides can flood with melt water and freeze, one day the glass may not open. Why open the glass in winter? Suppose the stove breaks down, the windows fog up and begin to freeze - visibility deteriorates; in a car like a UAZ, which is designed for extreme conditions, the issue of interior ventilation is extremely important. Another disadvantage compared to the 469 is that the glass in the trunk door has become smaller, which means visibility to the rear has worsened, but there is a wiper on the same glass. A huge ergonomic breakthrough was the appearance of one lever to control the transfer case and engage all-wheel drive. Previously, the UAZ 469 had two levers. However, before moving the transfer case lever to the all-wheel drive position from the Russian all-terrain vehicle, as before, you need to get out and manually turn the clutches in the front wheels. The steering wheel in the UAZ has no adjustments at all, but the driver’s seat is adjustable not only in standard planes: backrest angle and longitudinal adjustment, but you can also adjust the degree of lumbar support. Brake pedal in UAZHunter is 8 cm higher than the gas pedal, in general the driver who sat in UAZ After a passenger car, understanding the controls will not be too easy. Just look at the switching scheme of the old Arzamasovskaya gearbox, in which the rear gearbox is engaged like the second one on a regular car - this scheme is very convenient on difficult off-road conditions, when you need to quickly switch from first to rear and vice versa in order to shake the car, but if on the move insteadsecond turn on the rear - the sound will not be pleasant. The hydraulic headlight corrector allows you to adjust the headlight beam from the passenger compartment, very convenient when the trunk is loaded and the front part rises, while the headlights blind oncoming cars. A positive shift can be considered the ability to adjust the angle of the rear seat backs, as well as the ability to quickly dismantle the second row. If desired, the future owner can buy a Hunter with two additional seats located on the sides in the trunk. The carrying capacity of the UAZ Hunter is 750 kg. The volume of the UAZ trunk is 210 liters.

Technical part and characteristics of UAZ Hunter

Today on UAZ Hunter a ZMZ 409 gasoline engine and a ZMZ 5143 diesel engine are installed. The ZMZ 409 is equipped with fuel injection, the UAZ engine capacity is 2.7 liters. A sixteen-valve cylinder head helps develop a maximum of 128 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 216 N.M is achieved at 3000 rpm. With such an engine, the UAZ is capable of reaching 130 kilometers per hour on the highway. Previously, a 2.5-liter carburetor gasoline engine was available,The UAZ carburetor unit produces 189 N.M of torque, the maximum torque is available at 2500 rpm, the power of the carburetor unit is modest - 84 horsepower. The ZMZ 5143 diesel engine is good because at idle, even uphill UAZ rises without pressing the gas pedal, generally diesel UAZ less fast, but the difference in driving an empty and loaded car is not felt as much as in the gasoline version. Diesel unit volume UAZ – 2.3 liter, power - 96 hp, and torque more than on a gasoline ZMZ 409 2.7 - 216 N.M at 2,100 rpm. Previously on UAZ Hunter a diesel engine of Polish origin was installed, but today Ulyanovsk residents install their own diesel engine, which is superior in performance to the imported unit. The main pair in diesel UAZs is shorter - 4.625, while in gasoline hunters the main pair is 4.11. UAZ Hunter in addition to the above-described Arzamasovskaya box, it can be equipped with a new Korean-made five-speed gearbox, this box is already known from , The gears on it are switched on more easily, and the switching pattern itself is traditional. The first gear in the Korean box is quite short, but in the second UAZ capable of accelerating to almost 80 km. Unlike the UAZ 469, the hunter is equipped with a spring suspension at the front and a low-leaf rear suspension; the work done on the suspension made it possible to significantly reduce the “goatiness” of the car.

advantages and features:: SYL.ru

“UAZ-Hunter” is the latest modification of the famous Russian SUV from the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. The car has successfully retained and increased all the advantages of previous releases. This is still the same outwardly brutal “goat” as our grandfathers saw him. A strong foundation and a simple, unpretentious interior are everything a real man needs.

Loyalty to traditions

The unchanged appearance of the car can cause confusion. After all, apart from the strange plastic front and rear bumpers, as well as the fashionable metallic color, this is still the same UAZ-469. Little has changed inside either. The dashboard has become plastic, and the windows now open by sliding rather than turning. Asceticism and minimalism are suitable only for a real man, not spoiled by the excessive comfort of foreign cars.

At the same time, the technical characteristics of the UAZ-Hunter only improve with each modification. The design also remains based on a solid frame and unchanged all-wheel drive. The car is always valued precisely for its confident cross-country qualities. The “Russian tank” passes where others cannot pass. And minimalism, on the one hand, provides an affordable price, and on the other, it provides ample opportunities for creative tuning.

Technical features

The technical characteristics of the UAZ-Hunter in the basic version are represented by three power units. Two petrol and one diesel engines provide a fairly wide choice for the sophisticated car owner.

  • ZMZ-409 is a classic unit from the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant with a volume of 2.7 liters.
  • UMZ-4218 is the engine of Ulyanovsk engineers with a maximum volume of 2.9 liters for the Hunter line.
  • ZMZ-514 is the first Russian-made diesel vehicle for UAZ with a volume of 2.4 liters.

The gearbox on the car is a five-speed manual and is now only of the Korean type. Although at the beginning of the model’s release in 2003, the old Russian gearbox produced by Arzamas was still installed. The reliability of the car has only increased due to the introduction of a foreign analogue, as has its price. But some changes need to be made regardless of the general rise in price of the product.

The car's transfer case is still two-stage. The suspension is made according to a time-tested design: dependent spring at the front and dependent spring at the rear. There is a front anti-roll bar and four double-acting shock absorbers.

The UAZ-Hunter, whose technical characteristics are revealed in off-road conditions, remains a passenger car. Wheels of size 16 can be changed in a fairly wide range without making changes to the design. The front brakes of the UAZ are of the disc type, and the rear brakes are of the drum type. Whereas on the 469th they are all drum-shaped in a circle.

As for the dimensions, everything remains the same. The length of the Hunter is 4.17 m, the width is 2.01 m with mirrors, and the height is 2.025 m. The ground clearance of the basic version is 21 cm. For comparison: for “pumped up” UAZs this figure increases to 35 cm. The weight of the car approaching 2 tons. At the same time, the diesel version will be the heaviest - 1815 kg versus its gasoline counterparts 1665 kg and 1770 kg.

Advantages and disadvantages of the updated Hunter

If the practically unchanged appearance can be considered both an advantage and a disadvantage, then the technical characteristics of the UAZ-Hunter have undoubtedly increased:

  • expanded range of engines;
  • improved Korean gearbox;
  • modern paintwork;
  • improved interior heater;
  • metal bumpers on the latest editions.

The main disadvantage of the UAZ can be considered the almost complete lack of comfort and narrow doorways. And if the level of amenities can somehow be increased, then the doors cannot be changed. The second drawback is the non-racing capabilities: 35 seconds to 100 km/h and a top speed of 130 km/h for the gasoline version. After all, this is first and foremost a “tank” and only then a means of transportation. The UAZ-Hunter, whose technical characteristics are designed with an off-road focus, remains one of the most favorite cars for tuning. But this is a separate topic.

A few words must be said about the ZMZ-514 diesel engine. With a volume of 2.4 liters, a power of 86 liters is achieved. With. The UAZ-Hunter diesel, whose technical characteristics remain high, is a more pleasant option for off-road use. This is a relatively less revving, but most high-torque engine. And the presence of a turbine has a positive effect on speed characteristics and acceleration.

The diesel option is also the most economical. Let's look at the technical characteristics (fuel consumption) of the UAZ-Hunter model:

  1. ZMZ-409 – 13.2 l.
  2. UMZ-4218 – 15.5 l.
  3. ZMZ-514 – 11.9 l.

The figures given correspond to a combined cycle of 100 km. And in case of consumption on the highway without connecting the front end, the diesel will be within 8 liters per 100 km.

Results

The technical characteristics of the new generation UAZ-Hunter have only become better. Time does not stand still, and a person’s thought tries to keep up. This is fully implemented by the engineers of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. The car has become even more reliable and passable. And the popularity of the Russian “hunter” has always been at the proper level.

The first gear in the Korean gearbox is quite short, but in the second the UAZ can accelerate to almost 80 km. Unlike the UAZ 469, the hunter is equipped with a spring suspension at the front and a low-leaf rear suspension; the work done on the suspension made it possible to significantly reduce the “goatiness” of the car.

Let's pay attention to the technical characteristics of the UAZ Hunter with Korean mechanics and a ZMZ 409 engine.

Technical capabilities

UAZ Hunter is in great demand due to its high technical characteristics. This vehicle can be equipped with:

  • gasoline engine;
  • diesel power unit.

Basic 16 valve Hunter engine

The basic package includes a ZMZ-409.10 gasoline engine. It has 4 cylinders with a volume of 2.7 liters. The power unit is located in the front part of the body, equipped with a 16-valve timing belt and a distributor fuel injection system. The manufacturer of the SUV in question recommends refueling with gasoline of a grade no lower than AI-92. The maximum engine power is 128 hp. With. Peak torque is considered to be 209.7 Nm. This limit can be reached at 2500 rpm.

If you use Hunter in mixed mode, gasoline consumption will be more than 13.2 liters per 100 km. It should be taken into account that the dynamic characteristics of the car are weak. The maximum speed of this SUV is no more than 130 km/h. The starting acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h will require more than 35 seconds.

If we consider the diesel version of the UAZ, then it is equipped with a ZMZ-5143.20 engine. This power unit has 4 cylinders and a volume of 2.2 liters. The package also includes a 16-valve timing belt and a fuel injection system. The maximum power of this engine is 113.5 hp. With. Peak torque can be reached at 270 Nm.

If we compare gasoline and diesel engines in terms of fuel economy, then engine option 2 is considered more attractive. In the combined cycle, fuel consumption is 10.6 liters per 100 km. As for dynamics, the diesel unit is significantly inferior to its gasoline counterpart.

These models are equipped with a Hyundai Dymos 5-speed manual transmission. It is several times superior to the domestic version, which was previously installed on UAZ. It should be noted that a foreign box also has negative characteristics. It often makes noise and makes a creaking noise when switching.

Reliability of power units

A gasoline engine is more reliable than a diesel engine. At the same time, both engines easily endure winters, providing the required amount of traction when driving. Hunters are equipped with durable chassis. Ahead are the following items.

  1. Spring suspension.
  2. 2 trailing arms.
  3. Traction.
  4. Stabilizer.

The stern of the SUV rests on 2 longitudinal springs. There are double-acting hydropneumatic shock absorbers at the front and rear. The front wheels have ventilated disc brakes and calipers with pistons. The rear wheels are equipped with drum brakes. The SUV is equipped with power steering.

It should be noted that this vehicle has an all-wheel drive system, represented by a two-stage gearbox with axles. The constant mode is characterized by the supply of traction to the rear axle. If necessary, UAZ owners can rigidly block the front axle.

In terms of cross-country ability, the Hunter is considered a universal car. If you need a car to overcome off-road conditions, auto mechanics advise giving preference to the diesel option. The SUV in question feels great on country roads. But if the car still gets stuck in the mud or snow, the help of a tractor will be required.

It is necessary to take into account that you cannot ride off-road for a long time on factory tires. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase a set of special all-terrain tires. Motorists note that when driving at speeds over 100 km/h, loud noise and creaking are heard in the cabin. The Hunter is easy to drive, although you will need to turn the steering wheel more actively on sharp turns. When braking, take into account the short braking distance when reducing speed from 100 km/h to 0, especially if the car was moving faster than 60 km/h.

Capabilities and technical characteristics: UAZ-Hunter is capable of much

A person is characterized by certain stereotypes in behavior and assessment. Car enthusiasts are not deprived of this either. When looking at a UAZ on city roads, the usual definition immediately comes to mind - “goat”. However, how everything changes when this same UAZ appears in the forest, in the field, on the off-road next to your stuck car! He immediately becomes a savior and best friend, giving hope to get out of the treacherous mud trap. And in the city everything returns to normal...

Nevertheless, the technical characteristics of cars of this type (the UAZ-Hunter is no exception) allow them to confidently stay in the flow of traffic both in the metropolis and off-road.

Historically, this vehicle is the heir to several generations of all-terrain vehicles with an excellent pedigree, starting with the legendary GAZ-69. The last among them was the UAZ-469, which “served” in the Soviet Army for more than thirty years. Time could not but affect its descendants - the UAZ-Hunter car has a more civil, civilian appearance, while maintaining the strict bearing of a born military man, accustomed to enduring the difficulties of service (snow, wind, rain, impassable roads).

We should immediately note the presence of a classic frame, which few modern cars, defined as SUVs, can boast of. If we consider their capabilities and technical characteristics, the UAZ-Hunter compares favorably with the mentioned competitors. An important advantage will be solid axles, front-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case. All these differences inherent in the all-terrain vehicle are confirmed by more than one test drive; the UAZ-Hunter successfully overcomes significant off-road areas and difficult profiles.

Energy for movement is provided by gasoline or diesel engines. The first of them is the 409 Zavolzhsky 2.7-liter engine, producing 112 horsepower, the second is the Zavolzhsky diesel 5143.10, showing a power of 92 horsepower with a volume of 2.2 liters. The engines are equipped with a Korean five-speed gearbox and a small-module transfer case. The basic package includes hydraulic headlight adjustment, power steering, and noise and heat insulation of the interior. Its furnishings have a rather ascetic design, but for such a car the main advantage is its technical characteristics. "UAZ-Hunter" is a purely utilitarian car and is not particularly comfortable.

It is the previously mentioned design elements that make this all-terrain vehicle one of the favorite vehicles for off-road fans. Additionally, we should probably note the quite decent ground clearance of 210 mm, and the absence of any protruding parts on the bottom, which has a positive effect on cross-country ability. When driving, this “Hunter” consumes a little more than 13 liters of gasoline in the urban cycle, and the diesel version “eats” 10.1 liters of diesel fuel.

Although the Hunter is considered an SUV, such a name for it can be perceived as a significant understatement of its capabilities. Too many cars are positioned this way and have no basis for being included in this class. It can be considered at least an all-terrain vehicle demonstrating its capabilities and technical characteristics. “UAZ-Hunter” has more than once brilliantly left behind its more famous and well-publicized rivals.

Technical characteristics of UAZ Hunter

The Russian auto industry is also capable of producing high-quality cars. One of these is the UAZ-469 SUV, which for 30 years has pleased domestic consumers with high technical characteristics, excellent cross-country ability and all this at a very low price. And in 2014, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant decided to update the legendary car and presented the Russian UAZ Hunter to car enthusiasts. You will learn about what this vehicle is from this article.

Advantages of the car

When developing the body design, the developers decided to abandon the strict military design forever and developed the body design, as they say, from scratch. The car looks very modern and stylish. When getting acquainted with the car, the massive bumpers with fog lights immediately catch your eye. Traditional sliding windows have replaced the outdated rotary windows, improving the driver's visibility. The good sound insulation of the interior, achieved thanks to the double closed door circuit, is also pleasantly surprising. The UAZ Hunter is given a fresh look by the hinged tailgate, which also houses a covered spare wheel.

The dimensions of the car have increased slightly compared to the previous UAZ-469. The length of the car has increased to 4100 mm, the width of the body has increased to 1730 mm, and the height of the new car has grown to 2025 mm. The wheelbase length is 2380 mm with a ground clearance of 210 mm.

Inside the car is very spacious. The large trunk volume is pleasing, capable of accommodating up to 1,130 liters of cargo, and with the rear row of passenger seats folded, the luggage compartment increases to 2,564 liters.

Vehicle interior

The designers did not leave the car’s exterior design without attention. The driver and front passenger seats are covered with fabric and are longitudinally adjustable. Thanks to this, regardless of height, the driver will be comfortable driving the vehicle.

The interior trim is dominated by dark gray plastic, which is why the exterior looks very cheap and boring. The ergonomics of the cabin also remained unfinished, since the speedometer and tachometer are not in a very convenient place, so it is not convenient to read the readings from them. Sensors for pressure, battery charge level, power unit temperature and the amount of fuel in the tank are still located on the head panel, however, reading them is difficult because they are perpendicular to the dashboard.

Specifications

UAZ Hunter vehicles are assembled on a more modern platform that combines innovative technologies and reliable components. The front axle is designed on a spring suspension, and the rear axle is designed on a spring suspension. Thanks to this, engineers were able to maintain high cross-country ability and excellent stability, without a noticeable increase in cost.

Under the hood of the Hunter there can be one of four power units:

  • modern 16-valve internal combustion engine with a cylinder capacity of 2.7 liters and a maximum power of 140 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a continuous fuel supply system, which allows more efficient use of engine power.
  • A 2.9-liter carburetor power unit of domestic production UMZ-409.10, capable of producing 100 horses.
  • diesel power unit ZMZ-5143 with a cylinder capacity of 2.24 liters and a power of 98 hp. With.
  • 2.4-liter diesel engine 4ST90-Andoria, made in Poland, capable of producing 86 horses.

All engines are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. Front disc brakes ensure driving safety.

The cars of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant are distinguished by high off-road performance. UAZ Hunter, the technical characteristics of which are presented below, is a model created on the basis of a car. The design of the car is similar to the previous model.

Technical characteristics of power plants

The manufacturer produced a car with two types of power plants. Depending on the engine type, the technical characteristics of the models differ.

UAZ Hunter with a gasoline engine

The manufacturer installed a four-stroke gasoline power unit on the UAZ. The total volume of working cylinders is 2693 cm3. The engine has 4 working cylinders arranged in one row. The diameter of each cylinder is 95.5 millimeters. The piston stroke from top to bottom dead center is 94 mm.

The engine runs on AI-92 gasoline. The maximum engine power is 128 horsepower. The gas distribution mechanism includes 16 valves. Each working cylinder has 2 intake and 2 exhaust valves. This allows you to reduce the time for the fuel mixture to enter the cylinder and exhaust gases to be released.

The motor has a liquid cooling system. The fluid movement in the system is forced, carried out using a belt-driven pump. The liquid is cooled in the radiator. installed on the front wall of the engine compartment. The radiator is cooled by a fan.

The power unit is started by an electric starter. Its supply voltage is 12 Volts. Power is supplied from a single battery installed in the engine compartment. You can also read about.

UAZ Hunter diesel technical specifications

The diesel power unit installed by the manufacturer on the UAZ Hunter has the following characteristics:

  • Engine type – four-stroke with turbocharging;
  • Type of fuel used – diesel;
  • Number of working cylinders – 4;
  • The arrangement of the working cylinders is in-line;
  • The number of valves for each cylinder is 4 (two inlet and 2 exhaust);
  • Power unit volume – 2235 cm3;
  • Maximum power – 114 horsepower;
  • Diesel fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 10.6 liters.

Diesel is highly reliable and unpretentious to the quality of diesel fuel. Starting is carried out using an electric starter. The solenoid relay is activated from the operator's cabin. It engages the starter drive gear with the engine flywheel ring.

Transmission and chassis

The manufacturer equipped the car with a manual gearbox. It has 5 gears for forward movement and 1 for reverse. Gear shifting is possible after the transmission input shaft has completely stopped. The box is rigidly installed on the car engine.

Torque is transmitted to the input shaft using a single-plate clutch with a hydraulic drive.

UAZ Hunter has a 4x4 wheel arrangement. The torque is distributed between the front and rear axles by a two-speed transfer case. The rear axle is always on. The front one is connected, if necessary, using a lever installed in the car’s cabin.

REFERENCE: Engaging a lower gear on the transfer case increases the vehicle's off-road performance.

UAZ Hunter has dependent front and rear suspension. Unlike the previous model, the front suspension is made on springs. This allows the car to move more smoothly on uneven road surfaces. The rear axle is mounted on two semi-elliptic springs.

ATTENTION: The smooth ride of the UAZ Hunter when driving on uneven road surfaces is ensured by oil shock absorbers. They are installed on the front and rear axles of the car.

The front axle is equipped with rotating wheel mechanisms. They are necessary to control the machine.

To make steering easier, the steering is equipped with a hydraulic booster. The power steering pump is installed on the power unit and is belt driven from the crankshaft pulley.

Body type and dimensions of UAZ Hunter

The manufacturer produced the UAZ Hunter with two body styles:

  1. All metal. Has 5 doors and a metal roof;
  2. Cabriolet. The roof is made in the form of a removable awning. It is installed on a metal frame. The frame arches serve as protection against injury to the driver and passengers when the vehicle rolls over.

  • Maximum load capacity – 675 kg;
  • Ground clearance under the gear housing of the front and rear axles is 21 centimeters;

IMPORTANT: Depending on the version of UAZ Hunter, the weight of the vehicle may vary. The tilt version is lighter weight than a car with an all-metal body.

Car appearance

Compared to the UAZ 469 model, the appearance of the Hunter version has minor differences. The manufacturer installed enlarged rear-view mirrors on the car. They are installed in a plastic case and are located at the point where the windshield pillar is attached to the car body. The increased size of the mirrors eliminates the occurrence of blind vision zones when driving.

The bumpers are no different from the products of the previous model. The manufacturer equipped the bumpers of the UAZ Hunter with plastic covers. They are located along the edges of the product. The door hinges are located on the outside of the body. The doors open forward.

There are window extensions on the doors. The windows are openable. There are two glasses installed in the window frame of the door extension. The window is opened by sliding one pane in relation to the other. To prevent spontaneous opening, the glass is equipped with locks.

REFERENCE: Window extensions are attached to the door leaf with bolts. When using the car in the warm season, the extensions can be dismantled.

The rear of the car is equipped with one door. It has external hinges and opens to the side. On the door leaf there is a bracket for mounting a spare wheel. The tailgate is equipped with glass and an additional brake light.

A windshield wiper is provided to clean the rear window. There is a headlight on the door for reversing.

Light signaling lights are installed in the rear part of the body. The lights are located vertically and consist of:

  • Direction indicators and hazard warning lights. They are located at the top of the lampshade;
  • Brake signals. Located at the bottom;
  • Parking lights. Necessary to indicate a vehicle on the roadway in poor visibility conditions.

UAZ Hunter salon

The dimensions of the UAZ Hunter body create a spacious interior. The manufacturer has installed comfortable seats for the driver and passengers. They have the ability to be adjusted in the horizontal plane and have a variable back angle. The rear seats are equipped with head restraints. This prevents occupants from being injured if the rear of the vehicle is struck.

The front panel is covered with plastic. The instrument panel is located in the center of the panel. It allows the driver to control the operation of components and mechanisms while driving.

The following dial instruments are located on the panel:

  • Speedometer. Indicates vehicle speed;
  • Coolant temperature gauge in the engine cooling system;
  • Fuel level gauge. Indicates the amount of fuel in the UAZ Hunter tank;
  • Voltmeter. Indicates the voltage in the on-board network;
  • Oil pressure. Indicates engine oil pressure.

Below the instrument panel there is a switch block on the panel. The direction indicators, headlights and windshield wipers are switched on using a combination switch. It is located on the steering column of the car. This allows the driver to control the components without being distracted from the road situation.

On the right side of the driver's seat there are control levers for the manual gearbox, transfer case and parking brake. The transfer case is controlled by one lever.

Equipment and price: UAZ Hunter

The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has stopped serial production of the UAZ Hunter model. The manufacturer produced the car in four trim levels:

  1. Classic. It has seat belts for the driver and passengers, seats with washable upholstery, power steering, etc.
  2. Classic with locking. Differs from the previous version by the installed cross-axle differential lock;
  3. Trophy. It has heated seats, protection for chassis components, 225/75R16 tires, water-repellent upholstery, etc.;
  4. Anniversary. Three color options, towing eye at the rear of the frame, white steel wheels, headlight range control.

Despite the fact that the manufacturer has ceased production of the car, you can purchase Hunter in the showroom. The cost of the car, depending on the configuration, ranges from 470,000 to 540,000 rubles.

From the above it follows that the UAZ Hunter is a domestic SUV, distinguished by high technical performance. The car is similar to the previous model. Depending on the configuration and body type, the characteristics of the car may vary.
