Finally, fans of the Bavarian brand saw the seventh generation BMW 3-Series 2019 in the body under the G20 symbol. The model was demonstrated at the 2018 Paris Motor Show and among all other cars it was the most anticipated. There were no concepts before the premiere, so we could only guess about the appearance of the new product.

Since this is a profitable car for the company, its sales need to be launched quickly. You can pre-order now, there are prices and descriptions of configurations, and it will go on sale only in the summer of 2019.

Design

Is the new generation similar? Certainly! Of course, the appearance of the sedan has been changed, but there are no departures from the previous style. Visually, the model has become more aggressive, more attractive and, of course, more modern.

Traditionally, we approach the front of the BMW 3-Series G20 and see new narrow optics with a cut. The headlights have laser filling and are accompanied by the inscription “BMW Laserlight” on the headlight housing. The classic angel eyes are gone, only half the circle remains. Between the optics there is a new wide radiator grille with a chrome trim and a system for closing the holes in urban mode.

Many people consider the new headlights to have been stolen, but they cannot figure out from whom. We suggest, it is very similar to the French and.

From the recess on the headlights, lines extend down to the end of the bumper. The massive aerodynamic bumper features air intakes with integrated rectangular fog lights. In the center we see a 360-degree camera.

There are significantly fewer changes in the profile part, the overall silhouette has been preserved. The appearance of the BMW 3-Series G20 changes due to the shape of the headlights, which are visible from the side. The lines on the side are smooth, there are no sharp logs - a new modern style.

The rear of the sedan attracts the eye with new lights; now they are rectangular with rounded edges. The brake light and turn signal are convex, which during actual inspection looks much more beautiful than in the photo. The trunk lid has become more oval, thereby forming an aerodynamic anti-wing. The bumper is simple, there are stylish bulges, but the eye is not drawn to it.

The car grows in size with each new generation:

  • length – 4709 mm;
  • width – 1827 mm;
  • height – 1442 mm;
  • wheelbase – 2851 mm;
  • ground clearance - 136 mm.

16-inch wheels are installed in the basic configuration; 17, 18 and 19-inch wheels are installed if desired and with additional funds.

The visual part of the 2019 BMW 3-Series may vary, depending on the package. Available in M Sport and Sport Line, you can see the difference in the photo below.

Interior

Finally a new style? No, the interior architecture remains the same, but it has become more modern and more pleasing to the eye. The most stylish touch I would like to highlight is the Ambient light contour lighting with color changing function:

  • white;
  • blue;
  • orange;
  • lilac;
  • bronze;
  • green.

Everything is trimmed with high-quality leather, but it will be added either in top trim levels or as an option. Sports seats with leather upholstery, heating and electrical adjustment are installed as an option. You can adjust the side support rollers, backrest tilt, lumbar support, pillow, etc.

The back row of the BMW 3-Series G20 is a classic sofa for your passengers. There is more free space due to the increased length. Rear passengers are equipped with a heated backrest and cushion with three modes for 32,000 rubles; it does not require warming up the engine to operate.

The most interesting innovation is the 8.8-inch iDrive multimedia display running on the BMW OS 7.0 operating system, developed jointly with Microsoft. The system has received a voice control function, say the phrase “OK BMW” to activate, there is gesture control as in. The model receives all software updates from the cloud, and Apple CarPlay support is installed.

Under the entertainment system display there are two air deflectors, between which there is a display for the separate climate control of the BMW 3-Series. Temperature and flow direction controls are located under the baffles.

The transition to the tunnel and the entire tunnel is chrome-plated, there is the possibility of customization, chrome changes to carbon or a scaly structure. Closer to the armrest there is a block with a new gearbox selector, an engine start button, buttons for selecting driving modes and a control puck for the entertainment complex.

Riding modes:

  • Sport;
  • Comfort;
  • Eco Pro;
  • Adaptive
  • Auto H.

In the driver's hands is a 3-spoke steering wheel, covered in leather with a large number of buttons. The shape of the steering wheel is chosen by the buyer; it can be more sporty with a round airbag cover, or it can be urban with a large cover. In the basic configuration of the BMW 3-Series 2019, the instrument panel has a 5.7-inch display, and in the top trim levels it is 12.3-inch. It displays everything including the navigation system.

Optionally, the car is equipped with a top-end Harman Kardon Surround Sound audio system with 16 speakers with a 9-channel amplifier, power of 464 W. The sound control system muffles all extraneous sounds and distributes the flow of sounds to create a pleasant listening experience.

Safety and comfort systems

You can control many useful functions on the multimedia system display. The very first function is the BMW Live Cockpit Professional navigation system; compared to other manufacturers, it works great in Russia; you won’t need to connect Yandex Maps or other navigators.

The system is controlled by the Driving Assistant Professional function, which is a package with functions of lane control, lane departure warnings, side collision protection, etc.

Parking assistant Plus with all-round visibility function is installed. You can see panoramic view, top view and so on on the multimedia system display. Thus, due to the large number of such systems, driving safety and comfort are increased.

Engines and gearboxes 3-Series G20

While the range of TwinPower Turbo engines is narrow, one diesel and one gasoline engine are installed. These are not new engines, all owners know these engines.

List of engines:

  1. Diesel engine 320d and 320d xDrive with a volume of 2 liters. This is a turbocharged 16-valve unit with direct injection that produces 190 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 400 H*m of peak torque at 2500 rpm. Passport consumption does not exceed 5 liters in the city and 4 on the highway;
  2. Gasoline engine for the BMW 3-Series 330i, producing 258 horses and 400 units of torque at 2 liters. The engine is equipped with a turbine and variable valve timing system. Consumption in the city is 7.7 liters of 95 gasoline, on the highway it takes 5.2 liters.

The pair is equipped with an 8-speed ZF Steptronic automatic transmission. For the diesel engine, a 6-speed manual transmission is also offered, but it is not yet available for order for Russian buyers.

The diesel sedan reaches the first hundred in 6.8 seconds, and the petrol sedan in 5.8 seconds.

Chassis (suspension, steering and brakes)

The sedan is built on the modular CLAR platform, which implies a longitudinal engine arrangement. The front axle of the BMW 3-Series G20 sits on an independent MacPherson-type suspension, and the rear has a multi-link architecture. Interestingly made shock absorbers are installed, which change their stiffness depending on the stroke of the rod.

An M-suspension with a lowered ride height of 10 mm is available as an option. The springs in this suspension are 24% stiffer compared to the basic ones, plus it can be supplemented with adaptive shock absorbers and steering. Regarding the steering, it is rack and pinion with electric power, which for an additional fee becomes adaptive, changing the gear ratio.

By installing an all-wheel drive system, which can be complemented by an M Sport differential, which controls torque distribution and ensures stability. This is an excellent solution for drifting and moving on different surfaces: snow, gravel or ice.

The BMW 3-Series 2019 sedan stops thanks to all-round ventilated disc brakes. At the front there are 4-piston brakes with a fixed caliper. The rear has a single-piston floating caliper. The braking system is complemented by ABS, EBD and many other electronic assistants.

Price

For the basic 320d with a diesel engine you will have to pay 2,580,000 rubles. The all-wheel drive version will cost 140,000 rubles more, the petrol version costs 2,870,000 rubles.

Few things are installed in the database:

  • 6 airbags;
  • climate control;
  • conventional electric power steering;
  • tire pressure sensor;
  • Cruise control;
  • fabric upholstery;
  • heated front seats;
  • light and rain sensor;
  • standard audio system with small display.

Optionally, you can buy a lot of things, the final price will increase significantly in the maximum configuration. You can purchase additionally:

  • M Sport suspension;
  • adaptive differential;
  • top audio system;
  • navigation system;
  • laser optics;
  • heated rear seats;
  • leather interior trim;
  • electrically adjustable seats;
  • pre-start interior heater;
  • automatic parking.

The new BMW 3-Series G20 turned out really well; the technical side of the model has been supplemented with many interesting things. The design and interior have changed for the better, of course there are no global changes, the style remains, but there is nothing wrong with that.

The BMW F30 is an automobile platform (F30 is a sedan) on which the sixth family of third-generation BMWs was designed. The model replaced the pre-restyling BMW E90. The new product was announced in October (14th) 2011 in Munich. Not so long ago, in 2016, a restyling was carried out. All.

Car history

Third generation BMWs have been produced by the Bavarian company since 1975 (E21). Since then, “treshka” has become invariably popular not only in European countries, but also in the countries of the American continent.
With subsequent generations, the vehicle slightly increased in size, but invariably retained its sporting qualities and status as a compact premium sedan. But when talking about the debut release of a car, it is better to use the word “coupe”.

BMW 3 E21

BMW is perhaps one of the most successful car manufacturers in Germany. Despite the large sales volumes of E90 sedans (5th generation), the company had to release the next family of cars, since management had to follow the laws of marketing. The appearance of cars, along with the updating of the model range of automobile companies, changes every four to five years.

BMW 3 E90

If we take into account the opinion of the creators, they speak very interestingly about the sedan, calling the third generation BMW a sports car that delivers indescribable pleasure and comfort while driving.

Norbert Reithofer, who works as the chief executive officer of BMW and also serves as chairman of the company’s board of directors, was responsible for introducing the three-ruble note.

BMW 3-Series F30

The three-ruble note deserved considerable honor, because its percentage of the company’s total sales reached 40. And the last 5 families scattered across countries in the amount of more than 12,000,000 cars. Despite the fact that the BMW 3 F30 is slightly larger in size than its predecessor, the curb weight of the car is 40 kilograms less.

The lineup

  • F30 is the first model from this family. It is a four-door sedan that has been in production since October 2011;
  • F31 – station wagon variation, produced since May 2012;
  • F34 – Gran Turismo. The car has a sloping roof that combines a sedan and a station wagon. This car has been produced since March 2013;
  • F35 - is an extended version, which has been produced since July 2012 to be sold in China;
  • F32, F33, F36 - they decided to transfer such cars from the BMW 3 family to the BMW 4 category, specially designed for them, in order to increase their prestige. F32 is a coupe, F33 is a convertible, and F36 is a 4-door coupe.

Exterior

As mentioned above, the German-made car, when compared with the previous E90 model, has increased in size. The length of the Bavarian sedan has increased by 93 millimeters. The height has changed by 8 millimeters, and the width has changed by 6.

The changes also affected the wheelbase - it increased by 50 mm. Therefore, it is logical to conclude that now the luggage compartment can accommodate 50 liters more luggage.

It is worth highlighting the appearance of the new sedan. The BMW 3 Series is considered a bestseller among premium cars. The nose of the vehicle attracts the most attention. Here you can easily read the expressive “look” of the predatorily squinted headlights, which have received a broken shape.

It is also equipped with a branded radiator grille, fog lights, additional air ducts and a sloping hood. The signature “nostrils” are in place.

Thanks to such elements, the appearance of a car with its inherent sporting qualities is successfully created. LED lighting is installed as an additional option. But even with it, the headlights will look like they are slanted, which is why the front part seems gloomy and stern.

The car has a low roof and wide rear lights. The side of the German looks calm and in a certain classic style. However, what is impressive is the drag coefficient, which is 0.26.

Absolutely all elements have undergone scrupulous testing in the wind tunnel. With their help, we were able to achieve similar results. The car's profile hasn't received the newfangled splashes of ribs, but don't forget how much power is hidden behind such imaginary calm.

Looking at the doors, you notice that the side now looks more aggressive than it did on its predecessor, and the entire body with a sloping roof now looks more athletic.

Looking at the rear area of the sedan, it is not difficult to understand that it smoothly echoes the design decisions of early models (5th and 7th series). Regarding the rear LED lights, they are the same as on the “five”. They decided to place the exhaust system pipes on the sides.

German engineers have provided a couple of top-end performance variations - Sport Line and Luxury Line, which differ from the standard variation in their modified external design.

For example, on the sports version, each of the “nostrils” of the radiator grille has 8 vertical slats instead of 11. In addition, there is a different bumper with black decorative inserts around the perimeter.

Color spectrum. During the restyling, the Germans were able to significantly expand the color range of the car, introducing several new shades. Therefore, today the sedan has 17 different color options.

In addition, we decided to add some additional wheel rim options. For example, they added universal colors, such as alpine white and black. Metallic colors are also available.

Among the latter are white mineral, silver, black sapphire, Havana, gray mineral, Melbourne red, imperial blue, sparkling bronze, Liquid Blue, Estoril Blue.

Custom colors are also available: metallic black, metallic moonstone, metallic blue tanzanite, metallic smoky topaz and metallic brilliant white.

Interior

Due to the increase in the dimensions of the new brainchild, the interior has also become more spacious. For example, legroom for passengers sitting in the rear row of seats has increased by 15 millimeters compared to the previous generation.

The steering wheel and driver's seat have a considerable range of settings, which makes it possible for a driver of any size to sit comfortably. The important thing is that the most necessary controls are located at your fingertips.

The panel installed in front was perfectly arranged and did not make it too overloaded. For its finishing, we decided to use soft and tactilely pleasant plastic along with chrome decorative elements. Behind the steering wheel, the instrument panel is clearly visible, located under an unusual visor.

The instrument panel has large and a couple of small dial instruments. The instrument panel looks stylish and laconic. At night, with the backlight on, the dashboard looks especially interesting.

Dashboard lighting

The interior of the compact sedan is also replete with an abundance of solutions from the new 1st and 5th series. However, the ergonomic component, as always, is at the highest level.

The upper part of the center console receives a large 8.8-inch display for the multifunction entertainment system. The system has received great opportunities. For example, the display shows images from the rear view camera and also displays maps of the navigation system.

Dashboard

Conveniently, the necessary information about the operation of the engine is also displayed (diagram of current power and torque). Using a special BMW Apps application, the smartphone is synchronized with the multimedia system.

When everything is connected, the screen, which supports touch input, displays images from social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. You can also turn on online radio.

A touch screen that displays all the necessary information, as well as online radio and even social networks from a connected smartphone

As for the soundproofing of the interior, we can safely say that the sound of the power unit inside the car can only be heard during intense acceleration, which cannot be said about the tires - their noise can be heard even at low speed.

Therefore, the conclusion is this: noise insulation is at the BMW level, but far from ideal. For finishing we decided to use genuine leather and high quality soft plastic.

It's nice that the seats have adjustable lateral support. The driver's seat can accommodate a driver of any size comfortably. Not long ago, engineers did not know how to make a car equally suitable for speed lovers and those who give preference to comfort.

And they finally succeeded - they combined these two concepts, giving the driver an independent choice of driving mode. To do this, you just need to reach out and press a single button.

The button is responsible for the power steering wheel, throttle valve, response to the gas pedal, and gearbox. In addition, the system can loosen the grip of the electronic “limiter” of the DSC stabilization system.

New BMW 3 Series: automatic transmission shift lever with the ability to disable modes

The interesting thing is that the Germans were able to correctly motivate the driver to use the economy mode. They did not encourage him to grow virtual flowers, as other automakers do, but decided to clearly demonstrate the benefits of the saved liters. The display shows how the power reserve has increased during the distance traveled.

Such modes really work. For example, in Eco Pro mode, the sedan seems to become a meek lamb. One gets the impression that the German can hardly overtake a passing car. The purpose of this mode is to save fuel and, as a result, demonstrate excellent emissions performance.

There is no quick acceleration, and the automatic transmission switches to the next speeds earlier. It was as if a rug had been placed under the gas pedal.

Sport+ mode forces you to flex all the “muscles” that the sedan has. The automatic gearbox resets speeds in a timely manner, keeps the power unit speed sensor needle slightly below the “2” position, and the backlight acquires a color to match the hard speed limit. The car reacts to gas with lightning speed.

The volume of the luggage compartment, as mentioned above, was increased to 480 liters of usable space. The rear-mounted seats fold flat to further increase cargo capacity.

Although, in European countries, station wagons will be purchased most of all. There is no point in looking for a spare tire, since engineers continue to install run-flat tires on three-ruble cars.

An optional system for contactless opening of the luggage compartment is available. All you need to do is move your foot under the rear bumper. The trunk lid will open and begin to rise.

Specifications

Power unit

A restyled version of German sedans will come with several power units. The first, the BMW 318i, is a diesel 1.5-liter engine that produces about 136 horses. The famous model covers the first hundred in 9.1 seconds. Average fuel consumption is about 5.4 liters per 100 kilometers.

Next comes the BMW 320i, which features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 184 horsepower. You can accelerate to the speed limit of 100 km/h with this engine in 7.3 seconds. The maximum speed is 235 km/h. Average gasoline consumption will be 6.4 liters according to the passport.

The strongest is the BMW 340i. The car is famous for its petrol in-line turbocharged six-cylinder 3.0-liter power plant, which already develops 326 horses. The limiting torque is 400 Nm. You can reach the first hundred kilometers per hour in just 5.0 seconds.

We decided to leave the maximum speed level at the same level. This is not to say that such an engine is very voracious, since according to the passport it consumes an average of 7.9 liters for every 100 kilometers.

It’s nice that despite the rather large power units, the engineers managed to achieve more modest fuel consumption even in city mode. Also, few people know that the appearance of ActiveHybrid 3 took place. The car received a hybrid version. It turns out that the insides fully correspond to the BMW ActiveHybrid 5.

Among the features are the presence of 306 horses, an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 54-horsepower electric motor. This system consumes about 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers in average mode.

Transmission

All modifications come with a six-speed manual gearbox. However, as a separate option, you can install the presence of an eight-speed ZF automatic, which reduces fuel consumption.

If we take and compare a BMW 335i car, then with an automatic transmission, fuel consumption is reduced by 0.7 liters. The box can be connected to the automatic Start-Stop option, which is standard on the F30.

Suspension

Speaking about the suspension design, it has hardly changed on the new sedan, but a decent amount of aluminum components have been added to its design component.

An independent McPherson-type suspension was installed at the front, and a five-link design was used at the rear. Based on the driving characteristics of the BMW 3 F30, it is felt that the vehicle’s behavior has become sharper and better. Safety system that warns of collisions

Some of the systems include active cruise control, the Lane Change Warning System and Lane Depature Warning System, a system that can warn of the danger of a collision Collision Warning (which debuted on the 3rd generation BMW), real-time information Time Traffic Information. In addition, the installation of six airbags, ABS and ESP systems is provided.

Crash test

Price and options

The new model of the BMW 3-Series sedan can be bought in the Russian Federation in one standard configuration, however, with several available engines to choose from.

The most affordable car, the 318i MT6, has a 1.5-liter 136-horsepower engine. Its cost starts from 1,800,000 rubles.

The top variant is the 340i AT8 xDrive with a three-liter engine producing 326 horsepower. Among the advantages are the presence of six airbags, ABS and ESP systems, dual-zone climate control, a standard audio system with MP3 support, a full electrical package, rain and light sensors, alloy wheels, heated seats, a heated steering wheel (in top versions, and more precisely in the Luxury Line) and starting the power unit with a button (also only in the top configuration).

There is EfficientDynamics technology, which combines the Start-Stop function, brake energy regeneration and an optimal gear shift indicator.

The Driving Experience Control switch provides a choice of not only Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, but also ECO PRO. The latter makes it possible to save fuel as much as possible using a special driving style.

There is a color Head-Up Display screen that can display the necessary data on the windshield in the driver’s direct field of vision. In addition, you can use the Surround View function, which allows you to look at the car from above and around it.

The engineering staff did not forget to equip the car with a night vision camera and blind spot tracking with the option of reading road signs and other things.

Every connoisseur of the German automobile industry knows what a BMW F30 is. This is the name of the automobile platform that was used to build the sixth generation of the Bavarian third series sedan. It replaced the BMW E90. It was presented to the public in mid-October 2011, and sales began 4 months later. But the first model built on this platform is also known by this name. And here we should talk about it in more detail.

Appearance

The BMW 3 sedan of the F30 series, in comparison with its predecessor E90, has significantly increased in size. The length has increased by 93 mm. The car “grew” by only 8 mm, and became wider by 6 mm. The wheelbase has also increased - by 5 centimeters. It has also become possible to place 50 liters more cargo in the trunk. True, all these body changes, along with other transformations, also affected the price of the car. Its cost was 1,050 euros more expensive than the price at which the new E90 was offered.

The appearance of this model deserves special praise. It is considered to be a bestseller of premium class cars. First of all, attention is drawn to the front part of the sedan. The expressive “look” of predatorily squinted, broken-shaped headlights, the signature radiator grille, fog lights, additional air ducts and a sloping hood - all this creates the image of a car with a sporty character.

Another highlight of the model is the low roof and wide rear lights. The sedan’s profile is calm, one might even say it’s classic. But the most interesting thing is the drag coefficient, equal to Cx-0.26. All elements have been thoroughly tested in a wind tunnel. It is thanks to them that we were able to achieve such results.

Interior

The inside of the BMW F30 looks no worse than the outside. In the finishing process, genuine leather and high-quality soft plastic, pleasant to the touch, were used. The instrument panel is conveniently facing the driver. There are an abundance of options, but the layout of the control buttons is ergonomic and clear. Particular attention is drawn to the central tunnel and the multifunctional 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. By the way, ascetic devices are conveniently placed behind it. Experts have thought through their design - the driver does not need to be distracted from the road and look closely to see the necessary information.

On the front dashboard of the BMW F30 you can see a modern multimedia display. He's good at everything. The only nuance that some consider a minus is that the display does not retract into the dashboard.

The chairs are very comfortable. They are moderately wide, with lateral support, and are also equipped with adjustment functions in all directions. The rear row sofa has increased in size due to the increase in the length of the body itself. For the same reason, passengers have more space in their legs and overhead. So everyone can stay comfortably.

By the way, the BMW F30 has an excellent trunk. It holds 480 liters of cargo. For a premium sedan, the figures are more than decent.

Options

This BMW 3 Series Sedan is available with three different equipment packages. The first one is called "Sport Line". Cars in this configuration were offered with 17-inch wheels, glossy black air intakes and the same radiator grille. The exterior mirrors were painted in body color, the exhaust pipe was decorated with dark chrome, and an important technical addition was a sports suspension.

The interior of these 3 Series BMWs was pleasing with the presence of a sports steering wheel and sills, sports seats, aluminum trim (there was also a choice of gloss), an exclusively designed gear knob, plenty of chrome and dashboard lighting. Color accents in the form of red inserts give such models a special “zest”.

The “Modern Line” package was also developed. Distinctive features of the models are the presence of decorative elements on the exhaust pipe and radiator grille. Inside, the cabin is decorated with wood and aluminum inserts. There are also more bright colors in the interior than in the standard version.

The third trim level is known as the “Luxury Line”. It is considered the most expensive and luxurious. You can recognize the model in this configuration by the presence of luxurious thresholds, a coffee-colored dashboard and seats, and chrome rings on the console.

316d

This version of the sedan is considered the weakest BMW F30. The engine characteristics are in any case inferior to all other versions.

Under the hood of the 316d is a 116-horsepower 2-liter unit with a torque of 260/1750 Nm/rev. per minute Despite the small number of “horses,” a car with such an engine can accelerate to 202 km/h. And it reaches “hundreds” in less than 11 seconds from the start. Versions with this engine were offered with both a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. The 316d's suspension is proven and reliable - McPherson.

It should be noted that this car surpasses its direct competitor, the Audi A4 B8, in terms of mileage on a full tank. The 316d can travel 1,461 kilometers with 57 liters of fuel. The Audi will travel 17 kilometers less. And this also takes into account the fact that its tank is 8 liters larger.

By the way, the consumption of this model is modest. F30 316d consumes only 4.6 liters per 100 “city” kilometers. If you move along the highway, the consumption will drop to 3.5 liters.

335i

This is the most powerful BMW F30. A test drive of this model, of course, cannot be ignored. But first it’s worth saying a few words about its characteristics.

Under the hood of this car is a 3-liter 306-horsepower engine. Its torque is 400/1200 Nm/rev. per minute With such a unit, the model can accelerate to a maximum of 250 km/h (which is electronically limited). And the speedometer needle reaches the 100 km/h mark twice as fast as the previous version. To accelerate to “hundreds”, the 335i model needs only 5.5 seconds.

But, of course, it costs more. More than 10 liters of fuel are consumed per 100 “city” kilometers. If you drive along the highway, it will take 5.5 liters to cover the same distance. By the way, the model with this engine is also offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Other engine options

The models with the most powerful and weakest motors were noted above. But there are also other options, the so-called “golden mean”.

There is also a model F30 320i. This sedan has a 2-liter 184-horsepower engine with a turbocharger under the hood, with a torque of 270/1250 Nm/rpm. With it, the car accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. The maximum speed is 235 km/h. Consumption is low - about 8.2 liters of 95 gasoline per 100 “city” kilometers. And on the highway it takes about 4.9 liters.

It’s also worth saying about the F30 328i. Under the hood of these cars there is also a 2-liter engine. Only it is turbocharged and produces 245 hp. Consumption - 8.5 in the city and 5.2 on the highway. By the way, in the case of all engines, the “automatic” consumes 0.3 liters less fuel.

And of course, one cannot fail to note the 330d model. Under its hood is a 3-liter 258-horsepower diesel engine with a turbocharger. This car can accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. And its maximum is the same as that of the most powerful version. And the consumption is 6 liters per 100 “city” kilometers. On the highway it takes only 4.3 liters. This model is offered only with rear-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Equipment

So, what the BMW F30 interior, engine and body are like is clear. Now we can talk about equipment.

This car has it all. The basic package includes six airbags, ESP and ABS systems, fog lights, rain and light sensors, as well as 2-zone climate control. Also, all F30s have full power accessories, a powerful audio system with MP3 and USB, and heated seats.

But that's not all. There is also a rear view camera equipped with an all-round viewing system, and also something known as ConnectedDrive deserves special attention. It includes a considerable number of high-tech applications and services that can inform and entertain a person while traveling. With its help, the driver can connect to anything. For example, to a concierge service, remote control of a car, or an application that notifies you about traffic conditions online. With ConnectedDrive, the driver can access the Internet directly from the car. And if he needs to find the best establishment or place in the city, then recommendations from BMW-Online will help him with this.

And of course, one cannot help but note the M package offered to motorists with a sports suspension (lowered by 1 cm), adaptive cruise, a color projection screen and 19-inch alloy wheels. Tuning a BMW F30 with such additional equipment is simply not necessary. Car enthusiasts are even offered exclusive body color, interior trim and other unique decorative elements, the inclusion of which is possible.

Car in action

The BMW F30 receives mostly positive reviews. And I would like to pay special attention to the comments that professional car enthusiasts leave in their reviews after a test drive. Naturally, the best example is the most powerful model, which is the 335i.

Handling is excellent. The ride on this car is soft and smooth - even if the speedometer needle exceeds the maximum permissible limit. The speed picks up imperceptibly. Most car enthusiasts consider this a plus, but others do not like it. They say that because of this, BMW has lost some of its excitement and sportiness.

The car handles excellently in corners. All thanks to the suspension and active steering. In general, this car has excellent grip. The wheels of the BMW F30 firmly hold the car on the road surface, so that during the trip the driver feels safe - there is no feeling that the sedan will “drive” somewhere in the other direction.

However, there are people who believe that this model does not have the best electric amplifier. It leaves the steering wheel without feedback. This makes it difficult to keep the car on a slippery road. But in such moments the brakes fully manifest themselves. They react instantly, on the fly. And ABS is activated invisibly and silently.

What about speed? 250 km/h is far from the limit. People who conducted a test drive claim that the model rolls out this maximum without problems. But at the same time, the reserve of the power unit is clearly felt.

The Bavarians are one of the most successful German automakers, they live by the laws of marketing and, no matter how successful sales of the E90 sedans (fifth generation) were, the sixth “coming of the concern’s sales locomotive” was supposed to happen “on schedule” and took place in the fall of 2011 of the year. The “sixth three-ruble note” in the sedan body received the factory index “F30”.

The modern marketing and advertising lifestyle accelerates from year to year. The appearance and change of the model range of car companies occurs every 4-5 years, and at least half the life of the produced car will definitely undergo at least a light facelift.

The new product, the BMW 3-series F30, was presented by none other than Norbert Reithofer, the chief executive officer of BMW and also the chairman of the company’s board of directors. The “C” deserved such a high honor - its share of the total sales of BMW AG is about 40%, and the previous five generations sold more than 12 million copies around the world.

Let's take a closer look at this sedan... The front end with branded nostrils, new narrowed headlights with a cleverly broken configuration, a front bumper with foglights and additional air ducts, a sloping hood. The profile of the 6th generation 3-Series is harmonious and calm, without newfangled bursts of ribs, but we know what strength lies behind this apparent calm.

From the side, the sixth generation is more aggressive than its predecessor, and the entire body with a sloping roof has become more athletic. The rear of the BMW F30 echoes the design solutions of the older 5 and 7 series. The LED rear lights are exactly the same as on the “five”.

And in general, it is noticeable that they worked on the “sixth troika” with an eye on the older model of the concern. The design turned out wonderful and not as bland as the E90. All body elements were blown in a wind tunnel for several hours, which ultimately had a positive effect on the drag coefficient Cx-0.26.

BMW F30, in comparison with its predecessor, has slightly increased in size: length + 93 mm (4624 mm), height +8 mm (1429 mm), mirror width + 42 mm (2031 mm), base + 50 mm (2810 mm) , ground clearance decreased to 140 mm. Not without widening the track by 37 mm (1543 mm) on the front axle, and by 47 mm (1583 mm) on the distance between the wheels at the rear, which will certainly have a positive effect on the already refined handling of BMW's bestseller.

Let's take a look inside the sedan. The interior of the F30 uses familiar elements of the 1st Series interior (multimedia unit and climate control). But the materials used are head and shoulders above those in the “unit”. Plastics are pliable, soft and tactilely pleasant. The console is traditionally turned towards the driver, the central tunnel with its configuration immodestly hints who is the boss of the car. The three-spoke multifunction steering wheel in leather fits perfectly in your hands. Behind it, on the dashboard, there are ascetic instruments, which, for all their simplicity, are informative and easy to read (why should the pilot be distracted from the road). The front dashboard is crowned with a multimedia system display, but its downside is that it does not retract into the dashboard.

The driver and front passenger have ideal seats, there is plenty of seat adjustment in all directions, the seats themselves are a masterpiece (whoever has driven a BMW will agree - there are no better seats). Although passengers in the second row have more space than in the previous “troika”, it is uncomfortable to sit behind a tall driver. It will also be a bit cramped for three passengers, just the two of them.

The luggage compartment has a volume of 480 liters. This BMW 3-Series is available in three interior lines: “Modern Line”, “Luxury Line” and “Sport Line”. How exactly they will differ from each other we will find out at the beginning of February 2012, when sales start.

The level of equipment of the 3-Series, as always, will be high - the most interesting thing is the installation of a comprehensive ConnectedDrive system, combining service and entertainment functions. We won’t list everything, just the brightest: displaying information on the windshield, night vision and blind spot cameras, adaptive cruise control, reading road signs and much more. You don’t even have to dwell on such familiar things as climate control, power accessories, and keyless entry.

Here is a short video tour of the “EF-thirtieth” BMW 3-series:

If we talk about the technical characteristics of the BMW F30... MacPherson strut at the front, multi-link suspension at the rear. From the start of sales (February 11, 2012), the sixth generation will be offered to connoisseurs of the brand with three engines:

  • BMW 320d - diesel 2.0 liters with 183 hp. or 163 hp (EfficientDynamics version) acceleration to hundreds in 8.5 seconds with an average consumption of 4.5 - 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers;
  • BMW 328i petrol 2.0 liter (245 hp) accelerates to hundreds in 5.9 seconds with an average consumption of 6.4 liters;
  • BMW 335i petrol 3-liter six (306 hp) accelerates to hundreds in 5.5 seconds, appetite at 7.9 liters per 100 kilometers.

All modifications are equipped with a 6-speed manual by default; for an additional fee, any “three ruble” can be equipped with an 8-speed ZF automatic, which helps to further reduce fuel consumption. Using the example of a BMW 335i with an automatic transmission, consumption is 0.7 liters less. Miracles! How should you drive a BMW 335i to meet these numbers?

The driving performance of the new product can be characterized as follows: the behavior of the car has become even sharper and more refined; the sixth generation BMW 3-series has become larger in size, but it has become lighter (by 25-50 kg). The Driving Experience system will help you change the settings of the accelerator, electric booster, adaptive shock absorbers, and with automatic transmission - the operating algorithms of the unit. Everything to achieve driving pleasure.

In Russia, the “sixth” generation of the BMW 3-Series will be offered at a price starting from 1 million 475 thousand rubles (this is the cost of the “basic” BMW 320d with 6 manual gearboxes). The “top” 335i is offered at a price starting from 1 million 900 thousand rubles.

The BMW 3 F30 is generating a lot of interest. One of the significant advantages is, of course, the rich equipment. The F30 received three equipment lines: Sport, Modern and Luxury. Combined with numerous options, a huge number of color and equipment combinations can be found.

An important feature of the “troika” is good ergonomics. The center console is again turned towards the driver. The predecessor was criticized for ignoring this decision.

Unfortunately, limited space in the rear seat is a typical feature of all BMW 3 Series. However, in this generation there is clearly more space than in the BMW E90.

The GT version has an increased distance between the axles compared to the sedan and station wagon. And this is really noticeable to second-row passengers. In addition, the GT tempts with such stylish solutions as frameless door glass.

Conventionally, the BMW F30 can be classified as follows: the sedan is intended for the most conservative fans of the brand, the station wagon (F31) is for families with children, and the GT (F34) is for those who need a more capacious and versatile body.

In 2015, the BMW 3 was updated, in particular the bumpers and a number of engines. The taillights are now fully LED. The headlights of some modifications also received LED technology.

Engines

Most engine versions can be spoken of in superlatives when it comes to driving performance. Without exception, all gasoline units have turbocharging and direct fuel injection.

The 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine does not match the character of the model. The same applies to the 1.6-liter engine, which develops 136 hp. There are much fewer objections to a 2-liter engine, and even more so to a 3-liter one. Interestingly, even a 306-horsepower engine can be content with less than 10 liters per 100 kilometers. And it torpedoes the three to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds (test measurements).

Among diesel engines, it is better to choose between 2.0 R4 and 3.0 R6. If you do not take into account the 116-horsepower version, you can count on really pleasant dynamics. The average real fuel consumption will be about 6 liters.

For those who are more economical, there is an EfficientDynamics version (including with gasoline engines). It received improved aerodynamics and tires with reduced rolling resistance.

Three-liter diesel engines demonstrate about sporty dynamics.

The base 1.6 is none other than the 1.6 THP, created in collaboration with PSA. It became famous for problems with the timing chain (it can jump and destroy the engine) and the cylinder head.

Much worse than 2.0 N20. Recently, cases of jamming have become more frequent. This usually occurs due to problems with the lubrication system. In particular, the oil pump drive wears out prematurely. An unexpectedly failed turbine should alert the owner.

In N series engines, ignition coils and fuel injectors are not durable. In addition, carbon deposits accumulate quite quickly on the intake valves.

After restyling, gasoline units of the B series appeared. Theoretically, they were improved, but as practice shows, they are still not ideal. First of all, this concerns the 1.5-liter turbo engine.

The 3-liter engine, both petrol and diesel, is the safest choice.

Until 2015, the list of diesel units included the 2.0d N47 series. Its most famous problem is the timing chain. The kit itself is inexpensive, but replacement... This is because the chain is installed on the gearbox side - the engine has to be dismantled.

A faulty fuel injection pump is also expensive. The pump wears out and begins to drive chips, simultaneously destroying the fuel injectors. Another problem is the crankshaft damper pulley, which wears out after 100,000 km.

Electrics

It's not just the engines that give cause for concern. Sometimes problems arise with the electrics. For example, light may begin to live its own life. There is a short circuit in the LCM. Or the media control module may require reprogramming.

You should pay attention to the clips securing the rear lights (sedan) and the operation of the hatch. In the GT version, the rear spoiler control fails (BMW used this solution for the first time).

Chassis

The suspension demonstrates good wear resistance, but the cost of replacing aluminum arms will not be low. Sometimes there is play in the steering. The problem is most often observed in cars with large wheels.

Conclusion

From a functionality point of view, the BMW 3 F30 is a good car. However, maintenance and repairs will cost a lot of money, especially if you buy a risky engine, such as a 2-liter or even smaller one. Restyled versions are better, but more expensive. As you age, the cost of ownership will only increase.

Modifications

BMW M3 from 2013

Under the hood you will find a 3.0 R6 with two turbos. In the basic version, the engine offered 431 hp. There are also two special options: 450 hp. with the Competition package (includes 20-inch forged wheels and an active differential on the rear axle) and 460 hp. in CS.

The engine has a so-called dry sump made of magnesium. The most powerful variant was combined with an automated dual-clutch transmission (optional for weaker versions). The roof is made of carbon fiber, which reduces weight and lowers the center of gravity.

The M3, built on the basis of the F30, received the designation F80 and is produced at the Regenburg plant.

BMW ActiveHybrid 3

This is a classic hybrid car with a 3.0 R6 gasoline engine (turbo, direct injection) and a 54-horsepower electric motor. The electric drive allows you to reach speeds of up to 75 km/h with a power reserve of up to 4 km. The hybrid has rear-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

BMW 330e

The 330e iPerformance is a revolutionary plug-in hybrid. The theoretical fuel consumption (reduced from 5.9 liters to 1.9 liters per 100 km) is greatly underestimated and cannot be achieved in practice. This is due to large batteries and a powerful electric motor. Under the hood there is a 2.0T/184 hp. The hybrid uses rear-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic.
