Datsun he do or viburnum 2. Datsun mi-Do

A representative of the domestic automobile industry, Lada Kalina is a direct competitor to the Japanese analogue Datsun Mi-DO. Similar technical characteristics, body structure and the same price category make it a dead end when choosing the right model. The differences lie in the little details and aesthetic impressions of the ride, which we will talk about in this article.

Exterior features and positioning

Both cars are distinguished by elegant shapes and body design. The variety of color solutions in the case of the Lada is wider: 12 colors are available versus 6 for the Datsun. Models with a brown body are popular in Japan, and white versions are more common among domestic car owners. The body type of the 6-door car is station wagon.

The air intake with powerful passage holes in Kalina occupies the lion's share of the front part. The Japanese hatchback is equipped with a more modest and elongated radiator grille, as well as attractive optics. Lada looks more practical and has a sports version with a rigid suspension, as well as a cross-country version. The Japanese competitor has a sedan version and looks more solid. Both cars are positioned for a young audience.

Interior decoration

The interior styling of the compared hatchbacks is largely identical. However, the differences lie in small details - Datsun has matte plastic, made in dark gray tones with a pleasant tactile sensation. The plastic elements of the Russian model are made of textured material with a matte finish. In the cross version, the central part of the seat trim, steering axle and door inserts are distinguished by bright orange colors and look fresh and youthful against the background of dark plastic. The design and arrangement of the remaining elements are similar. 3-spoke steering wheels, functional panel options, consoles, double cup holders and ventilation holes have a similar design and design.

Power units - comparative characteristics

In terms of engines, the domestic brand noticeably outperforms its foreign counterpart - both in the number of power units and in peak power. Lada has 3 engine variations, including a sports version, while Datsun has only 2 options. The advantage of Kalina is clearly shown in the table below:

The supply of the fuel-air mixture in a foreign car engine is regulated by an electronic system (injector), and the volume of both engine variations is the same - 1.6 liters. The Lada passes the 100 km/h mark in 12.5 seconds, and its competitor in 12.9 seconds. The noise level of the Russian model is identical and comparable to its diesel counterparts. If the power and speed characteristics of the car are a priority, the choice is Kalina.

Suspension elements of Lada Kalina and Datsun

The suspension systems of both brands are identical. The front chassis features a classic MacPherson suspension strut and a torsion bar rear suspension design. The structural structure of the suspensions is typical for cars of the “pseudo-off-road” type of segment B. In practice, the models showed good results. In off-road conditions, stability is maintained and only on sharp turns is a slight decrease in controllability felt. The Lada has slightly higher ground clearance.

Gearbox - differences

The domestic brand is equipped with a mechanical or automatic type of gearbox. The Japanese equivalent has only a 4-speed manual transmission.

Equipment and price of Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina

The basic equipment of the Datsun Mi-DO is richer, despite the same price category. The Japanese brand has the “Trust” version available, as well as the “Dream” variation. There are dual airbags, ABS anti-lock braking system, EBD brake load distribution and EBA emergency braking assistant. Datsun's advantages also include heated windows and seats, an advanced sound system with an LED panel, Bluetooth and GPS.

The Kalina's equipment is more modest: a radio system, a front airbag, electric front windows and a central locking system. Variation in prices Kalina standard version - 370–540 thousand rubles, Datsun mi-DO - 490–539 thousand rubles.

Final comparison: pros and cons

Let's summarize the strengths and weaknesses of the cars.

Advantages of Lada Kalina:

  • spacious interior and trunk;
  • excellent optics;
  • availability of spare parts;
  • moderate fuel consumption;
  • power.

Disadvantages of Kalina:

  • modest equipment;
  • Not the most convenient location of controls.

Advantage of Datsun mi-DO:

  • maneuverability and spaciousness;
  • interior convenience;
  • rich equipment.
  • Flaws:
  • less powerful;
  • spare parts are not always available;

LADA XRAY or Datsun mi-DO – comparing which is better?

In comparison between LADA XRAY and Datsun mi-DO, it is extremely important to understand your own needs. What you absolutely need and what you can refuse.

The automobile market is full of surprises and competition, and therefore you should not be surprised that even models from the same company have to compete for buyers, even if they belong to different brands. This is precisely the situation that arose when the new domestic Lada X-Ray hatchback entered the market. After all, he had to compete for the client with another player from the Renault-Nissan Alliance - the Datsun Mi-Do hatchback.

The LADA XRAY turned out to be a very, very formidable opponent, primarily because it is cheaper. Therefore, finding out which is better, the Lada X-Ray or the Datsun Mi-Do, is extremely important for understanding whether it is worth overpaying?

Prestige and dimensions

In this case, it’s time to talk about the equality of machines. Of course, Datsun is a Japanese brand (owned by Nissan). However, everyone who is even slightly interested in AvtoVAZ understands that the Mi-Do model has the most distant relation to Japan. That is why the Datsun emblem is nothing more than a PR move on Nissan's part.

X-Ray, like Vesta, turned out to be landmark cars, since they are noticeably better than Priora, Kalina and other creations of AvtoVAZ. However, many still do not dare to fully believe in the correction of the Russian concern. However, there are definitely changes in a positive direction, and this is the most important thing!

Dimensions of the Lada X-Ray hatchback

Dimensions

LADA XRAY

Datsun mi-DO

4165 mm 3950 mm
Width 1764 mm
1570 mm 1500 mm
Wheelbase 2592 mm

Front track

1492 mm
Rear track 1532 mm
195 mm 174 mm
Trunk volume 361 l (1207 l)
1190 kg (1650 kg)

1160 kg (1560 kg)

When comparing parameters, comments, as they say, are unnecessary. It is immediately clear that the Datsun Mi-Do is worse than the Lada X-Ray in all respects. However, everyone must decide for themselves whether they should overpay when purchasing for additional space.

Parameters of Datsun Mi-Do

Exterior

It is noticeable that the designers took completely different paths when creating models. However, this is not surprising, because XRAY was created from scratch, while mi-DO is a converted copy of Lada Kalina.

X-Ray looks very catchy in appearance, and the branded stampings on the sidewalls, designed by Steve Mattin, have already become the hallmark of new VAZ models, including the hatchback. The same letter “X” is visible in the front end, but here it is formed by chrome moldings that edge the radiator grille and air intake, merging into one.

Compared to the concept, the food turned out to be much simpler, however, not without its own charm. Particularly impressive are the L-shaped feet and the black trim that takes up a good half of the rear bumper. And the picture is completed by small reflectors and a neat wing above the glass of the fifth door.

Datsun mi-DO, as you know, was created on the basis of the Lada Kalina, so the body layout remains the same. However, there are major changes to the exterior of this model. First of all, they touch the front end. The Japanese decided to abandon Kalina’s pseudo-sporty style, and therefore removed the huge “mouth” of the air intake, replacing it with a massive radiator grille. The bumper, headlights and hood have also changed. And we have to admit, the car looks much more profitable this way.

There are changes at the rear, although not as dramatic. The elongated feet remain, but their colors are different. The rear window is curved at the bottom, unlike the flat one on Kalina. The number from the fifth door “migrated” to the Mi-Do bumper, and the reflectors are different. In a word, there are a lot of changes, although they are all private.

And yet, the majority, if we consider the appearance of the models, believe that the Lada X-Ray is better than the Datsun Mi-Do. The Russian hatchback looks much more aggressive and original.

Specifications

There is also an overwhelming advantage of the LADA XRAY, primarily in terms of power units, although in terms of gearboxes everything is not so clear.

Engines

Datsun only has one engine. This is a VAZ 1.6-liter 8-valve engine that has been used for years, with a capacity of 87 hp. With. and a thrust of 140 Nm. The engine, of course, is rather weak, which is surprising, because the marketers of the Japanese company are targeting the hatchback at a youth audience where dynamics are held in high esteem.

However, the situation is somewhat smoothed out by a fairly low peak of power at 5100 rpm and torque at 3800 rpm. Subjectively, the car accelerates quite briskly and reaches a hundred in 12 seconds. (14.3 sec. with automatic). The maximum speed, however, is low - 170 km/h. But the consumption is high and in the city it is 9 liters (10.4 liters with automatic transmission) - the reason lies in the already outdated design of the engine, although, it is worth recognizing, its reliability to some extent compensates for the lack of manufacturability.

8-valve MI-Do engine

Lada X-Ray has two engines, and each of them is more powerful than that of its competitor. The line opens with a 106-horsepower 16-valve engine, which was developed on the basis of a VAZ-21129 type unit. The peak power of this 1.6-liter LADA XRAY engine is at 5800 rpm, and the maximum torque is 148 Newtons at 4200 rpm.

Despite the advantage of 19 hp. With. and the presence of 16 valves, the superiority in dynamics is very small - 0.6 sec. Changing hundreds takes 11.4 seconds, and the top speed of 174 km/h is not far from that of the Mi-Do. Appetite is about the same and slightly exceeds 9 liters.

1.6-liter X-Ray power unit

However, the next Lada X-Ray engine is much better! This is an independent development of AvtoVAZ - a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine with a capacity of 122 hp. With. It has an in-line layout and an injector, which allows it to produce 170 Nm of torque. The increase in “cubic capacity” had the best effect on the dynamic performance - acceleration in 10.4 seconds, at a maximum speed of 185 km/h, provides a comfortable ride and confident overtaking both in the city and on the highway. At the same time, the engineers managed to maintain consumption at 9.3 liters, which is very good for such a volume.

122-horsepower, 1.8-liter version

In general, from a comparison of engines it is clear that X-Ray is better than Mi-Do. Its power units are more advanced, more powerful and high-torque, despite the fact that the appetite is approximately the same. In fact, Dastun can compete with Lada, but only equipped with a basic engine - in terms of dynamics, it is not far behind it.

Transmissions

But when comparing LADA XRAY vs Datsun mi-DO gearboxes, everything is much more complicated than with engines. Regarding mechanical components, everything is clear. Both models have 5-speed gearboxes. The only fundamental difference is that the Mi-Do uses a domestic transmission, while the X-Ray uses a French one.

X Ray is equipped with a French manual transmission

Be that as it may, there are no serious complaints about both nodes. Although there are still some complaints about the mi-DO manual transmission - gear engagement is not always clear, especially in reverse gear; in addition, when driving, the transmission sometimes howls, which is discordant with the pride of Nissan, whose representatives praise the gearbox, emphasizing the presence of a cable drive in it . Therefore, X Ray's mechanics are still better.

Datsun manual transmission

With regard to automatic nodes, everything is much more complicated. XRAY has a 5-band AMT - this is a robotic gearbox created on the basis of a manual transmission 21826. The choice of such a transmission, rather than a classic automatic, was due to economic considerations. The gearbox itself is generally not bad, and it is easier and cheaper to maintain than an automatic transmission, although sometimes there is no hitch when switching without a hitch.

5-speed AMT Lada

As for mi-DO, it has a classic automatic transmission, but only a 4-band one, from Jatco. The automatic feels very comfortable, especially considering the price segment, and it also has a low gear holding mode. However, there is also a big drawback - with such an automatic transmission, the dynamics of the hatchback, which is already imperfect, becomes completely “none”, and fuel consumption increases significantly.

4-speed automatic transmission mi-Do

Therefore, it is difficult to determine the winner in the question of what to choose, Lada X-Ray or Datsun Mi-Do with automatic transmission. On the one hand, the Lada has a 5-speed AMT, although it is not without flaws when switching. On the other hand, Datsun has a 4-band automatic transmission, which, although comfortable, does not shine at all with dynamics, which turns into a big problem when overtaking.

Chassis

The chassis of the Datsun mi-DO and LADA XRAY is structurally the same, in general terms, of course. Both models are equipped with MacPherson struts on the front axle, as well as a semi-independent design on the rear. A feature of rivals is energy intensity, however, as it turns out, energy intensity varies...

On the X-Ray you can safely drive along a broken road without fear of the struts breaking through to the limiter. And every little thing or speed bumps may not be noticed at all. However, the downside of these benefits is high windage and noticeable roll in turns, which is why you need to enter turns carefully.

X Ray suspension diagram

The Mi-Do's suspension also seems to be energy-intensive and is not afraid of breakdowns, but all the unevenness of the road is reflected on the steering wheel and seats. As a result, the car shakes violently in the pits, and if you drive too fast, the rear axle can completely drift to the side, throwing you off track, especially in winter.

Datsun Chassis Layout

A separate conversation about cross-country ability. Here XRAY is better than mi-DO, and much better. Everything is explained by two main factors - high ground clearance and the presence of a switchable ESC system, thanks to which the VAZ model can drive confidently even on a muddy dirt road. As for the Mi-Do, this hatchback, thanks to its considerable ground clearance for this class, together with small body overhangs, also has good cross-country ability. However, X Ray is clearly not up to par.

And all the real capabilities of the LADA XRAY with ESC disabled are clearly demonstrated in the story of Ladnaya Mechanics.

Interior

The design of the models, of course, is completely different, but this does not negate the fact that the inside of the Lada X-Rey looks better than the Datsun Mi-Do.

The interior of the VAZ hatchback was created from scratch, although many believe that with a noticeable eye on Korean models. Be that as it may, the interior turned out to be very nice and original. The dashboard with backlighting and stylish wells stands out especially, and in front of it stands a sporty steering wheel. Elongated air ducts and a large display on the center console fit perfectly with the rest of the elements.

It’s quite comfortable in the back, although a duo of riders will ride there with maximum comfort. The front seats are also good, but it is worth considering that the lumbar support in the basic configuration is excessively low. Otherwise there are no problems. The XRAY trunk is almost 1.5 times larger than that of its rival.

The interior of the Mi-Do was completely copied from the On-Do sedan, which, in turn, received it from Granta, albeit modified. However, the Japanese did not have the opportunity to create a completely original design, and therefore they tried to rework the existing one. The result, as you can see, was quite good. The Mi-Do's interior is more austere, compared to that of the Granta, and less flashy.

Black plastic is harmoniously diluted with metal inserts, as well as chrome (but only in top trim levels). The steering wheel is quite comfortable, and the seats are very pleasing, both with the frame and the filling, as well as with lateral support. In addition, the maximum versions have height adjustment of the seats.

Options and prices

LADA XRAY has 3 trim levels on the list - Optima, Luxe and Exclusive. But the Datsun mi-DO has 2 versions – Trust and Dream, but the first has 3 levels of equipment, and the second has 2. Consequently, the Japanese hatchback has 5 equipment levels. Regarding prices, Datsun is noticeably cheaper. Its cost starts at 515,000 rubles, versus 599,900 rubles for LADA. In the top, the numbers are as follows: 652,000 rubles versus 830,900 rubles.

If we compare the configurations, a general trend will become noticeable - both Lada and Datsun have reduced the number of options in the basic versions in order to provide the driver and passengers with a decent level of safety. In particular, both models have front airbags, as well as electronic systems ABS, BAS and EBD. However, X Ray additionally has ESC, TCS and HSA. The cars also have a minimum package of equipment, including an on-board computer, heated mirrors, a folding rear seat backrest in a 60/40 ratio, and so on.

One of the Lada equipment options

Naturally, as the price of a car rises, the equipment becomes more and more rich. A multimedia system with a display, full power accessories, heated front seats and windshield, cruise control and other equipment appear. In general, X-Ray is richer in terms of equipment, but not by an order of magnitude.

Multimedia in Mi-Do is only available in expensive versions

This means that the overpayment for a VAZ hatchback is due, first of all, to its technical characteristics, especially more powerful engines. And to a lesser extent in terms of dimensions, maneuverability and equipment. Therefore, if you just need an honest car, without unnecessary frills, feel free to take the Datsun Mi-Do. But if you want something more, then Lada X-Ray is your choice!

At the end of February, in the company of several bloggers and auto journalists, I was invited to test drive a new hatchback . When I reported my temporary absence and the reasons for it from my main job, it turned out that three adults among my colleagues had never even heard of the once legendary Japanese automobile brand. Datsun. Following this logic, I think that among the readers of this cozy photo blog there will be many who are not yet familiar with this brand. But, meanwhile, it is a subsidiary brand of the concern Nissan and is now experiencing its rebirth. To be honest, I didn't know that much about Datsun and myself, but it was all the more interesting to finally take part in this event.

Yes, I immediately want to warn those who are already in the “topic” and began to make comments in the spirit of “Yes, this is just a remade Kalina!” Friends, take your time. Especially for you, I will try to find those notorious 10 differences.

02 . So, Perm, early morning, -23 Celsius and 10 test cars in various trim levels to be torn apart by seasoned auto journalists and curious bloggers. I also look at them with curiosity. Mi-DO- This is already the second Datsun produced for the Russian market. The first was a sedan On-DO, which, by the way, has already shown excellent sales in January. Indeed, both models are assembled on an assembly line Lada Kalina in Tolyatti and are the fruit of joint cooperation AvtoVAZ And Nissan Motor Co.,Ltd. I note that in most cases, I like sedans better, but this hatch clearly looks cooler than its “big brother.” Not to mention Kalina, of course. Look at its face - it’s already quite modern, as they say, “predatory” cut of the headlights, chrome, large-mesh radiator grille... It’s understandable, the author of the exterior mi-DO became the Japanese designer Koji Nagano, who drew Nissan Murano,Infiniti FX m many other models of the concern Nissan.

03 . I read that in the future Kalina They are planning to replace the front end with a more modern one, but for now I propose to consider this the first difference. Mi-DO It’s definitely more attractive in appearance and it’s stupid to argue with that.

04 . There are fewer differences in the interior, but there are also some. Top trim levels even have a 7-inch “TV.” It contains navigation, viewing photos and videos, Bluetooth, USB And SD slot. By the way, it sounds quite good. Naturally, you need to tweak the factory settings a little. For the two previous groups of journalists testing the cars before us, the sound quality obviously didn't matter at all, because all the settings were at zero. My co-driver and I martin we added highs and lows to taste and the music really became a joy.

05 . As standard, Datsuns are equipped with double-din radios. There is nowhere to put a CD in them, but in addition to the radio there is a USB port, Bluetooth and a slot for SD cards.

06 . In the same basic configuration, costing 415 thousand rubles, you have an on-board computer that displays a bunch of useful data, electrically adjustable and heated side mirrors, heated front seats, electric power steering, front electric windows, two airbags, height-adjustable steering wheel...

07 . ...But for climate control you will have to pay an extra 24 thousand.

08. I’ll add ABS to the basic options of the Datsun for 415 thousand, as well as BAS (brake assist) and EBD (electronic brake force distribution). I don’t really understand these abbreviations, but the roads in the Perm region in winter are very different (including extremely slippery ones) and subjectively, if you have a thoughtful and experienced layer between the steering wheel and the front seat, you can feel quite confident on them with this car. In addition, the ground clearance of 174 mm allows the car to drive not only on asphalt, but also to carefully drive beyond it.

09 . In general, when it comes to taxiing, for the unspoiled me, there is only one serious drawback. Subjective, but still. This brake pedal is too tight for my right foot. Especially in a car with an automatic transmission, jostling in Perm traffic jams, I had to add unnecessary effort to the pedal so that the car would not roll forward. You really need to put pressure on her.

10 . But let's continue to count the differences. The basic version of Kalina is offered for 377 thousand. Only in comparison with the same basic Datsun costing 415 thousand, albeit for an additional 38 thousand rubles in surcharge, we can bend a few more fingers, counting the differences: a second airbag (the wife is not a person or what?), ABS, electric drive and heated mirrors , as well as heated front seats, which, you see, are far from trivial bells and whistles. Especially when it’s bitterly cold outside.

11 . But that is not all. We continue to bend our fingers. Nissan has reconfigured the suspension. Low-resistance gas-filled shock absorbers, stiff springs and reinforced stabilizers made the chassis very unpretentious. During the entire test drive, despite the disgusting Perm roads after winter, I was not able to “break through” the suspension.

12 . In addition, company representatives say that they have made additional sound insulation (hood, interior floor, trunk and wheel arches) and compared with Kalina, more comfortable acoustic conditions. To be honest, I haven’t had the opportunity to travel in the latter (taxi after guests don’t count), but, in principle, I believe. We communicated with Martin without straining our vocal cords at all, even at high speed.

13 . By the way, about speed. On the highway, a copy with an automatic transmission accelerated to 165 km/h. The maximum, judging by the passport, is 170. Acceleration to hundreds is stated to be 14.3 seconds with an automatic transmission and 12 seconds with a manual transmission.

14 . In general, I would like to note a slight difference in dynamics between cars with automatic transmission and manual transmission. In my practice, there was a case when the automatic transmission did not move at all, spoiling the impression of the car as a whole. Having changed to a copy with a “handle”, I was still convinced that the car was capable of picking up speed at the very least. Well, that's not the point. The Datsun is equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission. Jatco(the same one is placed on Nissan Note,Tiida and etc.). It switches quite quickly, although it does whine a little. For those who find the speakers too small, there is a button O/D (Over Drive)).

15 . The VAZ engine is eight-valve, 1.6 liters and only 87 horsepower. However, the torque of 140 Nm provides acceptable traction at the bottom. The Japanese themselves, having studied the engine, considered it very good, but, naturally, they modified it a little. In particular, thanks to a more flexible bellows of the exhaust system and a reinforced steering shaft bracket, the engineers defeated the “proprietary” Kalinov vibrations.

16 . On the Internet they write that on wheels mi-DO put on tires Pirelli P1 Cinturato, but I can’t confirm or deny. The test cars had studded tires Michelin.

17 . Fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 7 liters per hundred for the manual and 7.7 for the automatic. Passport data - unfortunately, I forgot to look at the on-board computer data.

18 . A little about maintenance and its cost. According to company representatives, standard hours will cost less than for cars Nissan, but at the same time, the level of service is promised to be an order of magnitude higher than the owners Kalin and Grant are used to, since the service center specialists Datsun undergo training according to Nissan programs and standards. They promise approximately 7-8 thousand for the first maintenance. By the way, did you forget to bend your finger? Good polite service is always a pleasure.

19 . A few words about the positioning of the machine. At least as Datsun marketers see it. Unlike the sedan, the hatch is positioned as a car for a young man who is purchasing either his first car or his first foreign car.

20 . Well... There is nothing to object to here. The target audience is chosen correctly. The main thing is to provide suffering young people with opportunities for at least not deep tuning in the form of various chrome trims, alternative optics, and so on. Maybe something will be delivered from India or Indonesia, where Datsun was also recently revived. By the way, I’ve already come across two club forums on the Internet.

21 . Well, at the end of my review, after so many flattering words addressed to , I want to grumble a little. However, you can see everything for yourself - there is practically no trunk in this car. To transport something larger than a couple of backpacks, you will have to fold the rear seats (in a 40/60 ratio). It's good that there's room for a full-size spare down there.

22 . At the same time, the seats in the back are, in general, tight. I fit in, but I would like to have at least a couple of centimeters to the front seat, so to speak, in reserve. On the other hand, what do I actually want from a B-class car? Speaking of chairs. IN mi-DO They installed new, supportive and not as loose as before, chairs with an elongated cushion. True, only in the “top” configuration.

23 . As a result, I want to say the following. Despite the differences between And Kalina, these differences, of course, are not so great. For more, so to speak, significant successes, the Datsun people need to tirelessly continue to improve their cars, keep their prices down at any price, excuse the tautology, and not delay the launch of the third model, and it’s better if it’s an inexpensive crossover. Apart from the Chinese, there are practically no other competitors for this money, but AvtoVAZ is not asleep either. What to buy - everyone decides for himself. In the meantime, I like what one girl wrote on the club forum: " They’re similar, but I personally don’t like Kalina’s face, and even if they offer “a little Japanese” for the same money, why not buy that instead of buying a VAZ?

Paper and electronic media must first

Datsun is keeping its promises: following the On-Do sedan presented about a year ago, a second model entered the market - the compact urban hatch mi-Do. In addition to the body type, there are also technical differences from on-Do, for example, the ability to install an automatic transmission. What else will mi-Do try to charm Russians with?

An ordinary miracle

Even with just one model, the Datsun brand is working wonders in Russia, gripped by a currency crisis. Thus, in January, the on-Do model took seventh place in the popularity rating, and this is in the fifth full month of sales, when the dealer network is still 30% staffed.

And here is the first expansion of the model range. The donor for the mi-Do model is even easier to guess - in the front-side view, the Lada Kalina is unmistakably recognizable, the face of which has been slightly scowled, and the rear lights have been painted differently and a couple of wrinkles have been added to the fifth door. Externally, if you want, it’s just a restalling of the VAZ model. What about internally?

The method of manufacturing the mi-Do hatch is in many ways similar to the recipe for transforming a Lada Granta into a Datsun on-Do. Actually, work on the projects proceeded in parallel, and technically both Datsuns are as close as possible.

There are no global differences from donors: the platform, engines, gearboxes, and electrics are almost identical. The differences are the result of the careful work of an international team of engineers to find and eliminate annoying little things that usually bother Lada owners.

For example, brakes. Datsun uses different, more “tenacious” pads, a TRW vacuum booster and special anti-noise plates that reduce brake squeaking. Looking ahead, we will say that it was not possible to completely stifle the song of the brakes: at very low speeds, they no, no, and they will whistle.

The suspension settings have been completely changed: the Datsun has its own silent blocks, elastic elements (including anti-roll bars) and shock absorbers. In addition, mi-Do received its own gearless electric power steering calibration, and new engine and gearbox settings, including a four-speed Jatco automatic.

Finally, the car has a new interior, which matches that of the on-Do, and enhanced sound insulation in the floor, arches and engine compartment.

Eh, I'll give it a ride!

The mi-Do salon leaves a pleasant impression. Yes, the plastic is categorically hard, but the intricate rough texture visually makes it not at all cheap, and the interior design would not spoil the karma of a car one and a half times more expensive. The ergonomics of the Kalina can be felt mainly by its somewhat crumpled landing, but the location of the main controls is quite modern. By the way, for the top versions of the Dream, the company's engineers have prepared a seat with a long cushion, lateral support, a new frame and height adjustment. Frankly, the seat of the basic Trust configuration, although it does not have a height adjustment, seemed more comfortable - it holds the upper torso better. However, perhaps it depends on the build and height of the rider.

On the move, the mi-Do, despite the increased sound insulation, did not seem to be completely quiet: at low speed you can hear the howl of the transmission, at speeds above 90 km/h the tires and aerodynamics clear the throat. By the standards of the budget segment, this is normal, but it is difficult to establish its advantage over Kalina in absentia. The only thing that really draws attention is the absence of an annoying knock on the wheel arches, which on the Datsun are covered with felt fender liners.

But the suspension setup is close to ideal. There is no “Kalinovsky” swaying, no annoying rolls, the car listens well to the steering wheel. But at the same time, the suspension has retained comfortable settings and happily reflects the impacts of unimportant roads. The lack of secondary vibrations contributes to the feeling of comfort, and overall the chassis gives the impression of being firmly built, but shaking.

Let's add to this the good ground clearance of the Datsun - 174 mm in running order and up to 160 mm when fully loaded. True, if for cars with manual transmission this distance is measured to the crankcase protection, then the “automatic” does not have it and the lowest point is the gearbox housing. In any case, in terms of cross-country ability, the Datsun is comparable to old-school vases, and this, you see, is not a bad measure.

The brakes left a mixed impression. In addition to the aforementioned whistling at low speeds, the pedal settings in a car with a manual transmission retained Kalinov’s obstinacy. At the beginning of the stroke, the pedal is too stubborn, which creates the illusion of ineffective brakes. For some reason, the brakes on a car with an automatic transmission worked more progressively and did not raise any special questions.

Overall, I liked the Datsun's handling. It won’t make any driving revelations, but, most importantly, you don’t strain yourself behind the wheel. Even at high speeds, which we were able to try on sections of the motorway, the car holds a straight line well and confidently, without ambiguity, changes lanes. Winter tires slightly blurred the feeling of “zero”, but otherwise it is very tractable for a budget car.

By the way, a good setting of the gear selection mechanism also helps. It is, naturally, cable, plus with reduced strokes. The gears shift clearly and effortlessly, even when you downshift after good braking. As a result, if the Datsun mi-Do becomes a young man's first car, it will inevitably be a bit of a hot hatch. And he doesn't seem to mind.

For all the money

The only thing that raises doubts is the choice of engines, or rather the lack thereof. The Datsun mi-Do, like the sedan, can only be equipped with an 87-horsepower 8-valve engine, and company representatives explain the reasons for this choice simply: such an engine is enough. They note its high-torque performance, and the lack of “horses” should be masked by careful adjustment of the engine to the gearboxes, whether manual or automatic.

Datsun mi-Do with “mechanics” really does not disappoint. Well, okay, when you get into an 87-horsepower car, you lower the bar of expectations and don’t expect the mi-Do to leave behind two trails of fire. But for routine driving, the engine is enough to not pay attention to it. In the city, as such, there is no shortage of horses; on the highway, when overtaking, it is felt by the need to engage the lowest possible gear. At the same time, you can also feel its drag: say, sometimes being too lazy to change from fourth to second in a turn prevents you from putting the car in an awkward position. The engine will grunt and move on.

What about the machine gun? It is appropriate to recall that on-Do is not equipped with “two-pedal” transmissions at all, but the more urban and youthful mi-Do was prescribed the same Jatco automatic that is installed on Kalinas and Grants (however, AvtoVAZ is gradually replacing it with its own “robot” development).

And even with an automatic transmission, the engine doesn’t seem hopeless. On the track, the Datsun was completely surprising: the logic and speed of downshifting is such that very quickly a mutual understanding is established with the gearbox, which helps to squeeze the maximum possible out of the meager number of horses. And even if this maximum is not great, it is always at hand. That is, under the pedal.

In terms of interior dimensions, the mi-Do and Kalina are absolutely equal, so the back row is contraindicated for tall people: the seats are right next to each other. The trunk is also modest, except that it sports a full-size spare tire and the ability to fold down the seats in any configuration. But if practicality is what you're looking for, go for the on-Do, which features class-leading and fairly user-friendly luggage space.

The cost of the basic version of Trust starts from 415 thousand rubles - the base has two airbags, ABS, heated seats, central locking, on-board computer, front electric windows. Additional payment for air conditioning - 24 thousand, automatic - 40 thousand, radio - 10 thousand. In total, if equipped with all the options listed, the price will be 489 thousand rubles.

The top Dream configuration includes rain and light sensors, a stabilization system, rear electric windows, fog lights, side airbags, a color display with navigation, parking sensors, and a heated windshield. The price of the most equipped mi-Do is 539 thousand.

The car is produced at the AvtoVAZ Togliatti plant side by side with its donor, the Kalina. In general, it is difficult to draw a clear line between them, simply because VAZ engineers have the right to use any Datsun developments on their own cars. And since many of Datsun’s solutions actually look successful, it’s not surprising that Kalina follows suit.

However, Datsun counts on its market share, insisting that quality control, dealer service, and warranty implementation meet Nissan standards. Like, “Kalina” is “Kalina”, and we guarantee you a Japanese attitude to the topic. At the same time, the company plans to maintain a moderate cost of both the cars themselves and dealer service: currently scheduled maintenance costs around five thousand rubles and is carried out once every 15 thousand kilometers, which is comparable to VAZ’s indicators.

So, why is mi-Do better than Kalina? To summarize, first of all, the attitude of its creators towards the product. We must pay tribute to the Japanese, Russian, English and other specialists who worked on the project: mi-Do leaves the impression of a “nursed” machine, which was not made for show, but on personal responsibility. It feels like the legacy of, alas, not a new platform, but what could have been improved with little effort was improved. Whether this is enough for recognition in Russia, time will tell. But the start is good, and the currency crisis is only beneficial for a car with 80% localization.

Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina: comparison of hatchbacks

When comparing the Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina, car enthusiasts are faced with a difficult question: “Which hatchback is better?” Indeed, in fact, one of the cars can easily surpass the other in some parameters, but be noticeably inferior in the rest. For example, the domestic Lada is superior to Datsun in practicality and more powerful power units, but inferior to it in equipment and style.

The choice between Mi-DO and Kalina is complicated by the fact that the cars have approximately the same price category.

Lada is inferior to Datsun in prestige

You shouldn’t think that the Japanese are superior in popularity to the domestic representative. Both cars are assembled at identical rates and roll off the assembly line of the same plant. But the psychology of the Russian consumer is built a little differently and when choosing a car, it leans towards foreign cars. Consequently, when choosing a more prestigious vehicle between the Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina, the consumer gives preference to Japanese roots.

Comparison by body type

Upon a superficial analysis of the choice of car body, the Lada looks more practical than the Datsun. It has sports and cross versions at its disposal, but this issue is controversial, because Datsun plans to acquire similar bodies, as the developers themselves and concept art on the Internet say. It turns out that the predominance of bodies in the assortment is only a matter of time.

Differences in Exterior

The aggressive look of Kalina's air intake takes up a large space in the front of the car. The hatchback looks confident from the front, having a narrow and long radiator grille, stylish head optics and modest fog lights. In profile the car is less swift and aggressive. The stern looks frankly modest: decorated with reflectors and oblong feet.

In comparison of the hatchback bodies of the Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina, the second representative looks more efficient.

Datsun has not stepped forward far, but in some nuances the differences are noticeable. The front of the car does not look as efficient as that of the Russian representative, but the combination of a hexagonal air intake near the radiator grille is well chosen. The chrome surround of the grille clearly completes the exterior composition. Looking at the Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina in profile, there are no significant differences, and relative to the stern, the difference is noticeable only in the configuration of the rear door.

Power comparison

Lada Kalina is the undisputed leader in this regard. The car has twice as many power units. Absolutely all engines have a volume of 1.6 liters. If there is an injector and an in-line arrangement, the power of the units may vary noticeably.

Datsun mi-DO has engines of 82 and 87 horses, while the first option is eight-valve. The power limit of the power units is reached at 5100 rpm, while the power thrust is 132 and 140 Nm (3800 rpm).

Lada Kalina does not have an 82-horsepower engine in its collection. But it has more powerful representatives - an engine of 98 horsepower has 5600 revolutions and a thrust of 145 Nm (4500 rpm) and an engine of 106 horsepower has 5800 revolutions and a thrust of 148 Nm (4000 rpm). There is also a sports version of the engine, which has an output of 118 horses (6750 rpm) and a torque of 154 Nm (4750 rpm).

Lada Kalina has more powerful engines, which outperforms its competitors in terms of power.

Transmission

There is not much difference in the choice of gearbox. Comparing both models, it should be noted that they have a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic transmission. For modern cars this is not much.

Suspension

Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina have identical chassis. The front is the well-known McPherson strut, and the rear is a torsion beam. Both models have a typical B-Class design. Road stability and handling are at the proper level. The high ground clearance is felt during sharp turns, but these are not sports cars being compared.

As with the gearbox, the cars have parity in the suspension.

Interior similarities

Both representatives have tangible similarities in the interior. The developers didn’t try to be too clever and designed the Datsun mi-DO following the example of the Lada Kalina, as they say, “let’s go with the rules.”

On the front panel, common lines are noticeable - three-spoke steering wheels, similarities in the configuration of the center console, the style of the instrument panel, cup holders, air deflectors, the glove box, and the location of the controls.

The compared Datsun mi-DO and Lada Kalina models have well-profiled seats, but lateral support is frankly lame in both versions. Both cars boast comfortable rear seats. There is also a high roof, which will allow passengers not to rest their heads on the ceiling.

Complete sets at one price

In approximately the same basic configurations, the Datsun mi-DO is superior to the Lada Kalina. In terms of safety, the Japanese hatchback is better equipped. In addition to the standard elements for most B-class models (ISOFIX mount, electric front windows, central locking, radio preparation), for the same money the Japanese is equipped with:

  • anti-lock braking system ABS,
  • EBD brake force distribution,
  • EBA emergency braking assistance system.

In more advanced configurations, both Lada Kalina and Datsun Mi-DO cars boast:

  • a pair of front airbags for safety (Datsun has additional side airbags),
  • ESP stabilization system,
  • fifteen-inch wheels,
  • fog lights,
  • electrical package,
  • air conditioning (MI-DO has climate control),
  • heated mirrors and seats,
  • parking sensors,
  • navigation,
  • audio systems with displays and other options.

In price comparisons, the Datsun mi-DO slightly outperforms the Lada Kalina.

What's the result?

Comparing the Datsun Mi-DO and Lada Kalina hatchbacks, the result is cars with approximately the same cost and technical characteristics. This further complicates consumer choice.

Wasabi horseradish is not sweeter. Lada or Datsun? - test drive, review of Datsun on-DO, Lada (VAZ) Kalina Cross

How can you compare such different cars? The situation, meanwhile, is real if you need a new car for all occasions, but have a little more than half a million money in your pocket. There is no time for taste vagaries anymore. So you’ll think about it: take a budget foreign car without embellishment or a Russian product, but with a bonus in the form of a universal body and crossover things.

Lada Kalina CrossDatsun on-DO

Almost "jeeps"

There is more in common between on-DO and Cross than it seems. Since Datsun is “Japanese” by name, but is based on the VAZ front-wheel drive Kalina/Grants platform and is registered on the assembly line in Tolyatti. Even though the sedan is formally deprived of increased ground clearance and plastic shields, the numbers say that it has no less off-road features. If under the steel sheet of the Lada engine compartment we measured almost 19 cm, then under the same on-DO power protection the ground clearance is only a centimeter more modest. Yes, the sills and bumpers hang a little lower, the rear overhang is longer, but compared to other state-owned cars, Datsun is by no means a pushover and is not afraid of primers.

Let’s even strengthen it: he loves on-DO graders and country roads, since the energy intensity of his suspension is higher than that of the Cross! And this is a serious request, because Kalina not so long ago surprised us with its indifference to broken surfaces. But if the chassis of the Lada sometimes upsets you with knocks at the end of the day, then the Datsun silently bears the kicks of the road, no matter how you drive it. Except that it starts to shake passengers more intensely as the speed increases.

Lada Kalina CrossDatsun on-DO

One slaps hands, the other eats more

The sedan also behaves differently on asphalt. The Datsun is more stable in a straight line and does not sway as much from crosswind gusts. This is due not only to the lower on-DO height, but also to the retuned electric amplifier. It was clearly instilled with a progressive characteristic, although the force on the steering wheel still increases inadequately: in turns, the steering wheel suddenly becomes heavier and hits your hands when hitting bumps. Lada protects the driver's palms, but you can rather guess the position of the front wheels - the viscous steering is not very informative.

Kalina Cross predictably outperforms on-DO in terms of acceleration dynamics. After all, for the same money Lada offers a high-revving 16-valve 1.6-liter engine (106 horsepower) and a short main gearbox, while the Datsun’s limit is the ancient VAZ 8-valve engine with a power of only 87 horsepower and a “long” transmission. The result is a difference of almost 1.5 seconds in acceleration to “hundreds” (10.8 versus 12.2).

Lada Kalina CrossDatsun on-DO

However, on-DO does not feel like a “vegetable” at all. The peaks of its thrust and power curves occur at lower speeds, which is convenient in the city. And on the highway, thanks to the elastic engine, Datsun does not give up, maintaining the Kalina’s pace without strain. At the same time, on-DO turned out to be slightly more economical, showing an average consumption of 7.5 l/100 km versus 7.8 for the Lada. By the way, gasoline is prescribed for both models at 95.

There are differences even in sound insulation. The same 15-inch Pirelli Cinturato P1 tires on on-DO are heard more clearly. The Kalina's wheel arches are better damped, but at high speeds (over 100 km/h) the station wagon is more annoying with wind whistles. In general, acoustic comfort is comparable.

Lada Kalina CrossDatsun on-DO

The cars drive differently, but in the interiors, family ties come through in every crevice. The layout of the front panel, visibility, landing... The canonical parameters were determined by the common platform. And then begins the game of shades of design and equipment. For example, the instrument cluster on on-DO looks simpler, but is easier to read and does not glare. A multimedia complex with navigation and a touch screen is available for the Datsun, and the Kalina responds with cheerful orange inserts in the trim and a glove compartment on top of the dashboard. The USB port of the “Japanese” is hidden in the niche of the glove box, while on the “Lada” it is located in plain sight.

Even the sizes of the salons are the same. Only in the second row of the Cross, for obvious reasons, is there more headroom - the roof in the station wagon extends higher. And the Isofix mounts are made more competently: installing a child seat in on-DO is no easier than catching all the Pokemon on the streets. Although in terms of safety it is still ahead of the Lada due to the side airbags and stabilization system that are inaccessible to the Cross.

Lada Kalina CrossDatsun on-DO

The Kalina's cargo capabilities are richer. But in the basic configuration, the trunk of a sedan with a long tail is, of course, more spacious, and by as much as one and a half times (530 liters versus 355). Such a huge “pencil case” is convenient for bags and packages, but is not suitable for large items.

How much does it cost to be Japanese?

Japanese quality? It looks like it. Datsun feels like a more complete product! Its doors close more quietly, the rigid front panel creaks less, the gearbox howls less when releasing the gas, and the only unpleasant thing we encountered was a crunchy steering wheel. Lada, let us remind you, in just 10 thousand kilometers it developed a bunch of minor problems and was upset by the engine that was shaking in wet weather. On the other hand, a long test of the on-DO sedan also gave cause for concern. So, it seems that we are again being offered to play the lottery - whether the copy will be successful or not.

Lada Kalina CrossDatsun on-DO

But for official service according to “foreign” standards you will have to pay extra without any options. For example, on-DO maintenance for the first 30,000 km will cost almost 1.5 times more. Is the game worth the candle? If you like to drive yourself, want to drive on any roads and the word Lada makes you sick - buy a Datsun, although the foreign car from it is purely formal. But Kalina Cross impresses with its functionality: it goes everywhere, can take a lot on board, is cheaper to maintain and looks good.

Datsun or Kalina 2 - Datsun Gondo or Lada Kalina II? Is there a fundamental difference? - 22 answers

In the section Choosing a car or motorcycle, the question is Datsun Gondo or Lada Kalina II? Is there a fundamental difference? asked by the author Grigory Kovalenko the best answer is Lada

Answer from 2 replies[guru]

Hello! Here is a selection of topics with answers to your question: Datsun Gondo or Lada Kalina II? Is there a fundamental difference?

Answer from Www www[guru]something G, something G

Answer from Andrey 163[guru] Kalina of course. The difference is in the nameplate and the price of service. The bodywork is entirely from Grants/Kalina. And the Datsun has an 8-valve engine, do you think it’s Japanese?? no, they shoved ours in... at least Kalina has a choice of more powerful 16 valve engines

Answer from 137 [guru] Of course there is - on-DO is a sedan, and Kalina is a hatchback and station wagon. Datsun mi-DO is a competitor to Kalina (its copy). link

Answer from Denis [guru] Of course, VAZ. In Datsun it costs the same, generally one to one... only the bodywork will be more expensive and, in principle, the hardware too. I was surprised when I saw a Granta engine on my neighbor’s Datsun. The plastic is the same oak, only the design is different.

Reply from Wiktor kovaleff [guru] "Gon do".. sounds like a condom to the Russian ear. In general, I desperately need a car, and I’m running out of money! No time for Mercedes. Take Kalina. At least there is less hassle with spare parts. Still, your own factory, dealers, service centers and Uncle Vasya in the garage are more familiar with Lada cars than with Datsun-Gon BC. A "gondon" may come across such "small nuances" that he himself did not even suspect when buying.. It’s easier with Kalina, if it breaks, they’ll fix it for sure, with minimal costs.

Answer from Alexander Kulikov[guru] I have already dissuaded one from Datsun, although he wanted a foreign car

Answer from Remote kp.ss[guru]Datsun Shumaka is better

Answer from Yoman [guru] one and the same in fact, the difference is the appearance. find out the cost of body parts for both cars and decide which is better. technically they are identical: the engine, transmission, suspension, electrical equipment are the same.

Reply from ~(K@Reglazy)~[guru] look at the review from mail ru. but the Datsun is better in terms of sound insulation and reliability. There was some kind of test between the crap grant Datsun on do and the Ford Fiesta, so the Datsun won!

The revived Datsun brand in Russia, if not breaking records, certainly does not look pale: sales of on-Do and mi-Do are at a very good level, despite all the skeptical remarks addressed to them and comparisons with Lada. The brand itself was “pulled out of the bins” of Nissan, where it had lain for almost forty years. In those years, it was the main brand of the company, later known as Nissan, and cars under this brand managed to travel on the roads of Russia in the early nineties. Its revival as a budget localized brand is a good sign: it means that Renault-Nissan is ready to use the fruits of Russian engineering under its own brand, albeit not the main one, after some modification.

The comparison of the car with the Lada Kalina is obvious, but Datsun should not be considered just another modification of it. Modern cars differ from each other in nuances, in prioritization and execution details, so in mi-Do there is a slightly different atmosphere, an attempt to make the car “more different”, first of all, more Japanese. And don’t be misled by changes in appearance: unlike the old Soviet school of “modernization,” when the car’s plumage and external panels changed over and over again, leaving its essence unchanged, here the appearance was changed not at all for show and “mastering a new model by the XVIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Congress of the CPSU,” but just to emphasize that the car is now completely different. Yes, it was not possible to hide the relationship, but such a task was clearly not set. Judging by the reviews of those who were involved in fine-tuning this car, the goal was different - to change the approach to quality of workmanship as much as possible, increase reliability and give the car more thoroughbred driving habits.

As for reliability, they clearly decided to take the reinsurance route. The most reliable and simplest of the entire line of VAZ engines is the eight-valve 11186 with a power of 87 hp, the Japanese Jatco automatic transmission and the complete absence of any complex units, proven components and selection of suppliers to ensure maximum quality performance. I would say that for a cheap car it turned out well, the only serious irritants in the cabin were the inexpensive seats, the sound of the turn signal beeper and the somewhat strange working brakes, however, the latter is clearly a feature of a particular instance.

The rest of the interior is even pleasant: it does not rattle too much, is made of cheap but not irritating materials, and has a clear instrument panel. It is not too different from the platform Kalina, but there are fewer minor assembly flaws that manifest themselves in the form of clicks or poor operation of covers, latches and handles. In the future, the differences will disappear - according to the agreement between the companies, all Datsun innovations will be implemented on Kalinas, which means that all the pleasant changes will appear on Ladas very soon. And the main change that is worth waiting for is noise insulation; oddly enough, the new approach is making itself felt. No, the car has not become a “six hundredth” and is even far from any Octavia, but obvious flaws have been removed in the form of noise from the wheel arches and increased noise in the rear seats, interior creaks and knocks, even the rear wiper is now quiet. The engine sounds as usual, maybe a little muffled, but it is the new automatic transmission that is responsible for the complete absence of transmission noise; with it, the quiet howls so familiar to all VAZ drivers, which are especially annoying when braking the engine, disappear. Otherwise, we can hope for work on selecting component suppliers and improving the painting process, changing the range of steels used for body production and other seemingly subtle changes. Unlike garage tuning products, ease of maintenance and weight of the car are taken into account.

The roots, however, can be felt: the high Kalinovsky seating position has not disappeared anywhere, the seats have changed minimally, and I hope that they will soon be replaced with something significantly more advanced in terms of seating comfort. The eye comes across technical solutions that are familiar to everyone who has driven a Zhiguli, such as a thin handbrake leg sticking straight out of the floor, floor mats with an “overlap” across the central tunnel at the rear, thin sun visors - in general, the birthmarks of the old platform. There’s probably no point in hiding them and abandoning the basics. VAZ will have a new platform, more modern and convenient, and it will be necessary to use it, and not engage in cosmetic improvements to the old one, for now the task has been achieved. Minimal modifications have changed the quality of workmanship and driving characteristics.

While the interior dimensions remain minimally sufficient to accommodate four people, it is already too cramped for five. The trunk can accommodate a couple of small suitcases and that’s all; fortunately, you can fold down the rear seats and transport something significant. Here, even Nissan’s intervention cannot squeeze even more space out of the old body; it is clearly visible that the platform is already outdated. But the upholstery is now made of a material that is pleasant to the eye and to the touch, there are no bolts or sharp edges sticking out, everything is fine with this.

The new suspension settings pleasantly change the behavior of the car: it is less imposing and much closer to the “best examples”, but with a good emphasis on all-terrain capability and a slight indifference. Moreover, the shock absorbers here are the same SAAZ, but tuned up; in addition, the rigidity characteristics of the body and some other suspension elements have been slightly changed. In comparison with the previous generation, Kalin is heaven and earth; in comparison with the current one, the car is simply more pleasant to drive, but you can’t immediately understand why. Unfortunately, the electric booster is not installed here as a “driver” type, only a model that reduces the “steering feel”, making it lighter and less sensitive. I remember that during the test drive of the Granta liftback, the steering feel was much more pleasant, although sometimes the steering wheel was even too heavy in turns. But judging by the fact that Datsuns are fundamentally equipped with not the most powerful engine available, they did not strive for sportiness at all.

But the duet of the latest modification of the good old engine, which traces its ancestry back to the 1300 cc 2108 developed by Porsche and the Japanese four-speed automatic, is very good, perhaps even more pleasant to drive than the same automatic transmission with a 98-horsepower VAZ engine. The eight-valve engine pulls noticeably better at low speeds, and the automatic does not try to pull until the last minute, easily shifting down when there is a lack of traction. In the city, this couple drives very cheerfully, as long as there are no more than one or two passengers in the car, and with a full interior, the car cannot even handle a sixteen-valve manual transmission. Some credit for the feeling of dynamics must be given to the noise insulation; it makes cranking the engine “ringing” not too tiring for the ears. By the way, unlike the Granta, the temperature indicator here is not hidden in the depths of the screen on the dashboard, but is displayed constantly, forcing us to remember once again that for a long and happy engine service, warming up cannot be neglected. A small portion of nostalgia awaits you under the hood - there are no newfangled plastic covers covering the engine, you will be greeted by the valve silhouette, painfully familiar to all owners of “nines”. But the clamps are new, the material of the hoses and tanks is clearly different, they didn’t overdo it with nostalgia.

In general, the car does not stand out at all, the flaws of the platform have been very neatly removed, and this is its main advantage. The car was carefully preserved with a decent level of cross-country ability, high ground clearance - almost like other crossovers - and small overhangs. And at the end we get... yes, this is definitely a Datsun, not a Lada at all, with its rollicking, cheapness and inattention to detail, traditional indifference to all the characteristics of the suspension, except for “omnivorousness” and strength. It’s nice to know that little by little AvtoVAZ cars will learn to do the same, with attention and respect for simple driver needs, carefully and with love, and mi-Do acts as a trial balloon, and if it is popular, it will become a symbol that people want change. in this direction.
