Updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205. Buying a Mercedes-Benz C-Class: feeling like the owner of the show Spot changes in appearance

The new Mercedes benz c class w205 is similar, only a little shorter. In showrooms, its price is slightly higher than that of the AUDI A4 and BMW 3 Series in similar trim levels, but this does not prevent the C-Class from being the best-selling car in its segment. What is the specialty of this car, and why does it cost a little more than its direct competitors?

Model history

The c class w205 car in a new body appeared at the end of winter 2014. The dimensions of the car are larger than all previous models, W203, W202 and W190 (w201). The fourth generation of the c class positions itself as a smaller copy of the premium Mercedes segment. The C205 received 5 stars for safety for the first time after a crash test. By the end of the year, a tuning version of the Mercedes c class w205 became available for sale.

In 2015, a hybrid engine with a power of 279 horsepower and a record low fuel consumption of 2.1 liters was installed on the Mercedes Benz C Class. per 100 km. The hybrid is available in station wagon and sedan body styles. The racing car for the German Passenger Car Championship was the Mercedes amg c63 w205. Starting from 2015, the Mercedes c class coupe is produced from 2015 to 2018.
After restyling, Mercedes from the 2017 class received new optics and more powerful and economical power units. Updated multimedia system with carplay function (with steering wheel controls), autopilot and increased safety in case of accidents. In the same year, the Mercedes C Class 2017 became available as a convertible.

Exterior

The appearance of the radiator grille and the location of the Mercedes w 205 badge depend on the equipment package (avant-garde, exclusive or AMG). The most affordable front optics are equipped with halogen headlights. For the middle price segment, low beam LED headlights, high beam halogen. The most expensive headlights are completely LED; smart optics automatically switch the light from low to high. Turns behind the wheel and reduces the intensity of light at night when you see a car ahead.

The body kits, bumper and ground clearance of the w205 amg are lower and more aggressive than the Avangard. The w205 body has 18-diameter wheels, perforated and ventilated brakes. Mercedes benz inscription on wheels and calipers. Repeaters in the C200 mirrors, chrome around the windows, LED optics at the rear. The exhaust is bifurcated on both sides. The trunk volume is 480 liters, there is no stowage for the Mercedes 205, since run-flat tires are installed, if punctured or damaged, the car can travel 80 km at a speed of no more than 90 km per hour. At the same time, all security systems of the Mercedes coupe class 2017 work.

Interior

The interior of the Mercedes from the 2014 class is trimmed with leather; tall passengers in the back seat will feel cramped. There are cup holders in the armrest, and opposite there are deflectors for airing the legs. The seat backs of the C200 have additional pockets for small items. The steering wheel on a Mercedes is mechanically adjustable in two planes (in the sports version its shape is beveled at the bottom). It is trimmed with perforated leather, it has multimedia control buttons located below the steering paddles. The dashboard and doors are covered in leather. The climate control control buttons for Mercedes Benz c classe iv w205 are very minimalistic. On the central part of the tunnel there is a classic touch joystick (according to reviews from Mercedes owners, it is very inconvenient to use), which controls all systems of the Mercedes Benz c classe iv w205 180.

Heating and memory for the front seats of the w205 are available as an option. Huge side supports for the front seats support the driver and passenger well. The instrument panel is arrow-shaped in deep wells, in the middle there is a large liquid crystal screen that displays the current driving characteristics of the Mercedes C class 2017. The gearbox selector is located on the steering wheel. The center console is covered with glossy plastic or lacquered wood, depending on the configuration.

Engines

The new Mercedes is equipped with three engines: 2.2 liter diesel, gasoline and hybrid (diesel engine with electric motor). Diesel engines are not common on the domestic market due to climatic conditions and low-quality diesel fuel.
Mercedes benz c class gasoline engines are M274. 1.6 l 156 horsepower and 2 l. All of them are equipped with turbocharging. Even the lowest-power engine accelerates the Mercedes w205 to 100 km in 8.5 seconds. Fuel consumption in the city with air conditioning is 10 l, on the highway 6 l (for a 1.6 l engine)

Problems and malfunctions

Metallic knocking noise during cold start of new c class. Faulty camshafts were replaced under warranty with more modern ones.
The eco leather upholstery gets very dirty and rubbed. Mercedes w205 battery malfunctions occur quite often, the error is displayed already at low mileages. As a result, some functions of the Mercedes C Class 2017 may not work; the price of the battery is affordable, it can be replaced and the system can be reflashed.

Specifications

The suspension for the Mercedes C class has been developed completely new. The front is independent with 4 levers, with springs, the rear is a spring multi-link. The Mercedes 500 has excellent road grip, the car does not throw from side to side. Although the Mercedes w205 is elegant on the outside, you can feel its sporty character behind the wheel, the ground clearance is low, and the steering wheel is obedient. The suspension is soft, complete with good sound insulation, the ride is comfortable.

The transmission is 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic. All-wheel drive and air suspension with 4 different comfort settings are available as an option. The electric handbrake is activated automatically as soon as the engine has stalled. Electric power steering and disc brakes are already available for stock Mercedes C class models.
The new platform using aluminum allowed the Mercedes C Class W205 to lose more than 100 kg of weight. The basic configuration is equipped with rear-wheel drive. The driver can independently customize the suspension, engine and steering.

The car is also equipped with:

  • Anti-lock system
  • Cruise control
  • Blind spot sensors
  • Emergency braking
  • Parktronic
  • Emergency braking
  • Rain and light sensors
  • Collision Prevention Assist Plus accident prevention system, capable of independently stopping a Mercedes w205 class at speeds up to 200 km/h
  • 9 airbags

Owner reviews

There are no comments at all on the interior - it’s perfect, the monitor doesn’t bother me at all, I would say this is a particularly distinctive feature of the car, you get into the car and forget about all the problems. Anyone who is confused by eco-leather apparently hasn’t had anything to do with it!

But as for the very handling of the new C-Class W205, after the Toyota I was in ecstasy, the angle of rotation, the turn, there are no words! Perfect! Brakes, acceleration dynamics, despite the small volume of 1.6 and 156 hp, with a turbo engine, Sport and Sport+ modes for the city are excellent, starts quickly, drives smoothly, handles the road excellently, on the highway in Sport mode it is a pleasure, despite suspension and large wheels. The car is not harsh for me, I feel genuine joy and pleasure from driving.

Video review

The price/functionality ratio is very favorable; after I figured out all the settings and functions, I can safely say that this brand is head and shoulders above any other competitor.

Handling and agility, especially in tight conditions, are simply magical, despite rear-wheel drive in difficult road conditions instills more confidence than many front-wheel drive competitors in this class.

The only design flaw in the new C-class can be identified as the low heat generation of the engine, which at outside temperatures below minus 25-30 degrees Celsius leads to the need for serious insulation of both the engine and the engine compartment.

Pavel Rashchupkin, review of Mercedes C-Class 1.6 (156 hp) AT 2013

Excellent design, many convenient functions, especially the ECO mode, when there is little fuel, and the nearest gas station is not close or in a traffic jam - generally super. Excellent turning radius, due not only to turning, but also to the tilt of the wheels. And there are many convenient functions as standard (small ones, you won’t remember them all at once).

If you get service from the officials, it’s somehow very expensive and I’m not sure it’s of very high quality. Not the best sound insulation. Not the best handling. There is not enough space in the cabin, the car is not for large people.

Review of Mercedes-Benz C180 1.6 (156 hp) automatic, 2013 model year.

I really like the design of modern “tseshki”; they are like a classic suit that will never go out of style. And everything is great inside. Beige leather, natural wood - stylish, but without unnecessary pathos. Mercedes knows a lot about this. In terms of equipment, everything is very good, 2.1 million were not given in vain. I really like multimedia with a touchpad, I haven’t used such a feature before, but it turned out to be convenient. The menu is clear, the resolution is at the level.

The C 250 drives even better than the 211 “horses”; there is enough power reserve everywhere. The operating modes of the engine and chassis can be changed, and you can really feel it. At “comfort” the car becomes soft and slight rolls appear. In sport modes it's great to take corners. The computer makes sure that I don’t ram anyone. He saved me once when I didn’t react to a ride in the city. The car slowed down on its own, and only then did I understand what had happened... or rather, what hadn’t happened.

There are few fly in the ointment in this barrel of ointment yet, I haven’t even driven tens of thousands yet. In winter, the keyless entry was slow and did not unlock the door the first time. True, this only happened a couple of times, and with the onset of warmer weather the problem went away; the service did not find any damage. The rear view mirrors are too small, it’s good that there is a camera in stock. I don’t like the standard runflat tires, they are noisy and oaky, I will change them. Overall, I’m happy with the car; it’s nice when a dream turns out exactly as expected.

Sergey, review of Mercedes C-Class W205 2.0 (211 hp) AT 2014

The downside of the “Special Series” is a modest and not optimal set of options, although the necessary living wage is present: dual-zone climate control, full power accessories, heated front seats, parking sensors front and rear. I quickly got used to the automatic transmission selector located on the steering column. The screen of the multimedia system looks like an alien element of the interior, but we must admit that it is very convenient to use.

At the same time, in this configuration you cannot even order heated steering wheel and windshield as an option. Even the budget Hyundai Solaris is better equipped, not to mention business class cars.

It is clear that a lot has been saved here. For example, the driver’s seat has longitudinal adjustment mechanically, and up and down adjustment – electrically. Passengers in the back row are not spoiled for comfort; there is not even a center armrest, not to mention any adjustments or heating.

But the C-Class drives, as befits a thoroughbred Mercedes-Benz. Even despite the modest 2-liter engine and all-wheel drive, the dynamics are not bad. The suspension is a little harsh, but the handling is very good.

Noise insulation is average, you can hear noise from the tires and from the engine when it operates at high speeds. It is felt that when designing the car they struggled with weight; the car weighs only 1.5 tons, so the dynamics are not bad even with weak engines, and fuel consumption is moderate.

On the highway 8-9 liters, in the city about 11 per 100 km. But in pursuit of weight loss, in addition to equipment, they saved a lot here. This car does not have a spare wheel, there is not even provision for re-rolling, and the fuel tank is very small, its volume is only 41 liters.

Review of Mercedes C-Class 2.0 (184 hp) 4Matic 2015

The world premiere of the new fourth-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class in the W205 body took place at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Initially, the German manufacturer showed only the sedan version, and later it was joined by a station wagon, coupe and convertible. At the Geneva auto show four years later, a presentation of the restyled car will take place.

Unlike its predecessor in the W204 body, the next generation car has significantly increased in size - the length of the new Mercedes C-Class 2018-2019 model (photo, price) has increased to 4,686 mm (+ 95), width - to 1,810 (+ 40) , and the wheelbase increased from 2,760 to 2,840 millimeters. The trunk volume is now 481 liters versus 475 liters previously.

Options and prices Mercedes C-Class W205 (2020)

AT9 - 9-speed automatic, 4MATIC - all-wheel drive

At the same time, the weight of the car was even reduced somewhat, since its body became half aluminum, and hot-formed steel and heavy-duty steel were more widely used in the design, plus composite materials appeared. All this made it possible to make the design 70 kg lighter, and the total weight of the sedan was reduced by 100 kilograms - to 1,300 kg in the basic version.

We also note that the new 2018 Mercedes C-Class model is built on the rear-wheel drive modular MRA platform, which has already formed the basis of the flagship. The previous front suspension of the McPherson type was replaced with an independent four-link with aluminum arms, and the rear remained five-link, but its modernization made it possible to reduce the level of noise and vibration.

Additionally, buyers can choose from several Direct Control suspension options. Among them is a sports version with a ground clearance reduced by 15 mm, a comfortable version equipped with shock absorbers that automatically adjust the stiffness, and a similar version where the driver controls the choice of modes.

But that's not all. For the first time in this segment, Mercedes-Benz offered an air suspension for the C-Class W205 that can independently adjust the ride height, depending on the speed and degree of loading. There are five preset driving modes: Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual. In the latter, you can configure various parameters of the machine at your discretion.

Of course, it could not be done without many of the most modern safety systems and various electronic assistants, including adaptive cruise control, which automatically keeps the car in the desired lane, a frontal collision avoidance system that operates at speeds of up to 200 km/h, all-round visibility functions, automatic parking, and much more. The updated version has a semi-automatic pilot.

Back in mid-April 2013, spy photos of the new Mercedes C-Class 2018 appeared online, captured during tests in Scandinavia without camouflage, and later Diariomotor published the first pictures of the model, so the appearance of the company’s new product could not be kept secret. The car received a significantly modified design with a sloping roof in the LA style, head optics like the updated E-Class W212, as well as rear lights reminiscent of those on the S-Class W222.

In October, the manufacturer distributed official photos of the interior of the C-Class W205, which in design resembles the younger models. Mainly due to the three round air vents on the center console and the infotainment system display located above them. But the display itself is larger - it is available in 7.0- and 8.4-inch diagonal versions, and the console has a different shape and sports a touchpad for intuitive multimedia control with handwriting recognition.

The restyled sedan of the 2019 model year received a modified radiator grille, as well as retouched lighting equipment, which is already LED in the base. The bumpers have also been revised - the basic one has a wide central opening, while the AMG Line version has large air intakes with three horizontal slats on the sides. In the cabin there is a new steering wheel with touch panels, a wide monitor of new multimedia, and for an additional fee an electronic instrument panel on a 12.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels and three themes to choose from is now available: Classic, Sport and Progressive

The new 2018 Mercedes-Benz C-Class boasts an impressive range of four- and six-cylinder gasoline engines with power from 184 to 335 hp, as well as an upgraded 2.1-liter diesel engine and an initial 180-horsepower unit from Renault. Later, a hybrid modification and a “charged” version appeared. The basic gearbox remained a 7-speed automatic, but some modifications received a 9-speed 9G-Tronic gearbox.

At first, European buyers were offered the C 180 sedan (specifications) with the familiar 150-horsepower 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine, as well as a more powerful modification of the C 200 with a two-liter turbocharged unit with output of 184 hp, as well as the diesel C 220 CDI producing 170 horsepower. All-wheel drive versions of the C 300 4MATIC with a 2.0-liter turbo-four (235 hp) and the C 400 4MATIC with a 3.0-liter six (329 hp) immediately appeared in the States.

The price of the new Mercedes C-Class 2020 in Russia starts from 2,090,000 rubles for the initial version of the C 180 in the fixed “Special Series” configuration (sales started in the spring of 2014), and the C 180 Sport modification with a package of AMG Line accessories will cost 2,410 000 rub. For the more powerful 211-horsepower version of the C 250, dealers are asking from RUR 2,460,000. The updated four-doors will reach us approximately in the fall, and orders will be accepted in advance.

Among the wide list of available options are a head-up display, a Burmester audio system, climate control with automatic operation settings in accordance with GPS data, a fragrance and ionizer in the cabin, and much more. The cost of the diesel version of the sedan is 2,660,000, and the hybrid version of the 350 e is estimated at 3,200,000 rubles.

On April 7, 2014, sales of the C-Klasse (W205) in the special version Edition 1 began on the European market, which could only be ordered during the first year from the start of sales of this car.

The model is based on the Avantgarde version with a large three-pointed star on the radiator grille, but has been specially prepared for two variants of exclusive 19-inch wheels painted in Himalaya gray.

Inside, the Edition 1 features a multifunction three-spoke steering wheel from the AMG accessories line, two-tone leather seats, a Nappa leather dashboard, velor floor mats, a black fabric headliner and illuminated door sills.

Mercedes-Benz C, from RUB 1,390,000, KAR from RUB 12.31/km

The youngest of the real ones

“Baby Benz”, aka Mercedes-Benz in the back of W201, is now a rarity. However, it was he who, more than thirty years ago, ushered in the era of small and prestigious, but relatively affordable sedans with a three-pointed star.

Over the past seven or eight years, the role of the first ever Mercedes has been usurped by a whole galaxy of upstarts built on the basis of the A-Class. But it is the new C-class that debuted here this year that remains “the youngest of the real ones.” This is still your entry ticket into the world of classic rear-wheel drive sedans from Stuttgart. The car allows you to taste many of the values of older Mercedes: a variety of power units, a generous amount of finishing materials, an impressive abundance of options and much more. Your C-class can be like everyone else’s, or it can be prepared completely individually.

In its new incarnation, the “tseshka” already has half a dozen engines, a pair of bodies, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. At the same time, the role of the most popular product still belongs to the C180 “Special Series” version. On average, 400–500 cars are sold in Russia per month, and the lion's share of them are with a basic engine. These are the types of cars that can most often be found in dealer warehouses.

It's gratifying that Mercedes slightly reduced prices in October. There is no talk of any serious concessions. However, we can say that the purchase has become a little more attractive.

C-Class, W/S205, Catalog, 2014–09

Which choice?

Even the basic equipment of the C-Class is worthy of emulation. Still would! There are not only power accessories and climate control, but also such lordly options as a 7-inch color display, electric front seat adjustment, tire pressure sensors and a quite respectable “piano black” finish. And the generosity of security equipment in the “tseshka” is traditionally captivating. It is by no means limited to the abundance of airbags. ESP has a function for correcting trajectory in crosswinds, and the braking system can periodically dry the discs.

At the same time, the basic C180 costs from RUB 1,390,000. A lot if you compare the C-Class with the Passat or Insignia, and quite attractive if you contrast the Stuttgart with its compatriot competitors.

And yet, you hardly want to buy a “tseshka” exclusively in white or black (for any of the metallic colors they ask for 35,000 rubles), as well as “on hand”, with hubcaps and a fabric interior. However, as soon as you start stuffing the car with options, you won’t notice how the price will increase not just by tens of percent, but sometimes by double. Any options are expensive like a Mercedes. In addition, there is no guarantee that by the time you arrive in Russia the car will not be more expensive.

If you don’t take money out of your nightstand, you should start considering buying a C-Class with the “Special Series” version. Such a car includes a number of important options that would cost much more separately. “Automatic”, reinforced suspension with increased ground clearance, all kinds of heating and such indispensable attributes of prestige as light alloy wheels and LED headlights - all this is available in such “tseshki”. This C180 costs from RUB 1,480,000.

Moreover, the first six months of sales of the “Special Series” also included parking sensors, a folding sofa back, a rain sensor, metallic and the ability to choose Avangarde or Exlusive finishing lines. However, now the “Special Series” has lost just these five positions. There is no point in buying a car without them. Moreover, the Comfort package for 90,000 rubles allows you to return them to their place. As a result, the optimal, in our opinion, car C180 will cost 1.57 million.

In addition to the basic exterior and interior trim, there are more prestigious versions: Exlusive, Avangarde and AMG Line. They do not so much increase the level of equipment as they give the car individuality, making it more convenient to use and more refined in detail. The only difference is that Exclusive is aristocratic, and the last two versions suggest a dynamic, sporty image.

True, the C180 “Special Series” imposes significant restrictions on interior trim. Older models don't have their hands tied. The ceiling, for example, can be crystal gray, light porcelain or sporty black. Linden, ash, piano lacquer, walnut, aluminum - these are not all the finishing options for the front panel, doors and center console. By combining all this, you can easily create a “tseshka” that you will never see on the road again. All this, alas, is very expensive.

On versions C250 and older, you can order advantageous Assistants or Luxury equipment packages. The first is interesting due to the presence of a rear view camera and a head-up display, the second - with an interior aromatization system.

In addition to additional equipment, the price of the machine is significantly influenced by the engine. For a 2-liter (C250) instead of the base 1.6 you need to pay an extra 245,000 rubles. The diesel engine (C250 BlueTec) has good economy and all-wheel drive, but is even more frightening with the surcharge - an extra 410,000 rubles. And finally, a hybrid (C300) - a 20-kilowatt electric motor combined with the same diesel engine - will require 690,000 rubles. beyond the optimum.

Outside and inside

When the design of a large car (S-Class) is transferred to a small one (C-Class), the most difficult thing is to maintain harmony in the latter. The creators of the new “tseshka” completely succeeded. The C-class seemed to me one of the most beautiful cars in the middle class. I walked around him and admired him. What a perfectly balanced car it appears to be!

In a Mercedes, it is still useless to try to detect uneven gaps or poor paint job. The purebred German assembly speaks for itself. Tolstoy, with reliable seals, you won’t have to slam the door again - the locks work perfectly.

At the same time, the most elegant version turns out to be Exclusive, when the three-pointed star is a sight on the hood. However, the sporty versions of Avanagarde or AMG Line cannot be called devoid of nobility. The star in them is fixed on the radiator grille and is unlikely to attract vandals.

Inside, the quality of finishing materials and assembly is also beyond doubt. However, if it weren't for the distinctive door trim design and the three-pointed star on the steering wheel hub, I might have thought I was in any other German car. You open the door, and a tablet with a thick black frame, alien to the dashboard, looks at you. Definitely, if we are to imitate the S-Class, it is also in its style of arrangement of multimedia systems, when the screen rests under one monumental canopy with instruments. However, this is a matter of taste.

But when on a “tseshka” you come across hard, easily scratched plastic in the trim of the front seats - this is no longer a matter of taste, but an offensive economy. There is nothing good in the fact that the Germans still cut the C-Class without taking into account the characteristics of our market - not the latter for themselves. You will have to take care of installing wheel mudguards and door moldings yourself. And the engineers placed the arms of the updated front multi-link suspension too low above the wheels. On refined German roads you are unlikely to see ice on the road that gets stuck in the narrow space between the tire and the lever. On our “highways” there are even worse surprises. And tires, supposedly not afraid of punctures, instead of a full-fledged spare wheel, are the worst option for Russia.

What about interior space? At the rear, the new C-Class has become somewhat larger than its predecessor, although it still cannot be called spacious. There is enough space for two here, but it’s better not to take a third person in the company. The one in the middle is blocked by a high tunnel. The most comfortable thing for the passenger to the right of the driver is the same huge range of adjustments, the same comfortable seat.

Yes, and suitcases in the “tseshka” have freedom. The Germans claim 480 liters of volume - quite decent. The cover opens with a key fob or a button on the driver's door trim; You can order an electric drive. It’s a pity that the lower edge of the hold is greatly narrowed by the rear lights, and the folding back of the sofa in a ratio of 40/20/40 must be ordered in the expensive (RUB 90,000) Comfort package.

In the underground, alas, there is not even a stowage box, and under the upholstery there is a fuse and relay block hidden - not the best place, by the way.

What well

+ Memorable exterior details

+ Wide range of options

+ Neat trunk lid hinges

+ Thick, with reliable door seals

+ Resolution and clarity of display graphics

+ Wide-opening hood with air supports

What is wrong

- Lack of standard wheel mudguards

- Rear view camera not protected from dirt

- Alien-looking monitor

- Lack of spare wheel

- Small glove box

- Scratchy plastic in the trim of the seats

Behind the wheel

In the C-Class you have to get used to the low seating position. The chair cushion is located almost on the floor. The electric drive allows you to raise it higher. However, a person above average height will inevitably lose hip support - the front edge of the chair practically does not change its position in space. However, starting from the C180 Sport version and older, the pillow also has such an adjustment. Please note that in this case, the seat drive control buttons are located not at the end of the seat, but on the door - which is more familiar to many Mercedes owners.

At the same time, the range of longitudinal adjustment in German is huge on any version. The C-class can be presented as a prize for the volleyball team. The chairs provide excellent support for the body.

The multifunctional steering wheel is very pleasant to the touch. It is finished in leather by default. On older versions, you can use perforated leather and Alcantara in the design. As usual, the steering wheel contains control buttons for the on-board computer, radio and Bluetooth system. You can also program a lot of functions - from the timing of turning on the headlights to controlling the operating modes of the engine and chassis.

But the fact that instead of a touch screen the Germans used a touchpad, which responds to stroking your finger on the black hump on the central tunnel, is a controversial decision. Inadvertently touching him, I sometimes “flipped through” the desired radio station. You don’t make such mistakes if you rotate the most convenient puck of the “Command” system.

The display of the multimedia system “stuck” to the front panel not only looks alien, but also contradicts the canons of passive safety

In general, as you can see, you praise the ergonomics more. Even the standard “Mercedes” “callus” - the abundance of steering column levers to the left of the steering wheel - has now become easier to get used to. Most “tseshki” here still have two, and cars with electric drive even have three levers. Yes, turn signals, windshield wipers and high beam headlights are mounted on the main lever, as before. On any other machine this would be a definite flaw. But you don’t think so when driving the current car. It switches the headlights from high to low independently, a smart rain sensor helps you turn on the windshield wiper less often, and most importantly, the size and shape of the levers have changed - it has become easier to communicate with them without looking.

I also liked the new climate control, which the “tseshka” inherited from the S-class. If you want, press the rocker keys on the center console, or you can do it another way - touch the menu button, and then manipulate the commander’s puck. Very comfortably.

Moreover, organoleptically sophisticated individuals, simply “sniffers,” can pamper their sense of smell with aromas developed in Stuttgart. The set includes four glass bottles and a scent generator holder located in the glove box. It’s a pity, the pleasure costs tens of times more than the simplest flavorings. And the glove box has lost a lot of volume.

Not all is well with the visibility of the dashboard. The C-class, I repeat, predisposes to a low seating position. You also have to lower the steering wheel, which, alas, blocks part of the speedometer. Fortunately, the speed indicator readings can be displayed on the on-board computer screen or on a head-up display. The latter in the Assistance package is sold for 100,000 rubles. along with navigation and rear view camera.

The “Command” system puck is hidden under the hump of the touchpad. The latter is not always convenient to use

What well

+ Abundance of safety features

+ Convenient head-up display

+ Climate control from the commander

+ Chair adjustment ranges

What is wrong

- Lack of pillow angle adjustment

- Headrests that interfere with rearward visibility

- Tricky ergonomics

On and off roads

If everything is in order with your associative thinking, then from any Mercedes you probably expect silence, a comfortable suspension and excellent torque. Of all this, the C180 has only decent sound insulation. The suspension turned out to be surprisingly shaking and overly stiff. But the fact is that I “tried” the version with the AMG package, increased ground clearance and on 18-inch wheels. This is a “mixture” that it would be better not to appear in the world.

Fortunately, the Russian representative office of Mercedes-Benz found a car with a conventional suspension and on 215/55R17 tires. “Tseshka” with just such a chassis is best suited for our roads. The status quo was restored. Except that at the junctions of overpass spans the car still lacked energy intensity. However, in most cases, Mercedes remains “Mercedes” - it does not bother you at all with information about road adversities. Only a picky person will note that run-flat tires are noisy on rough asphalt.

How does the choice of tires affect handling? The “tseshka” appears to be a completely collected personality even on basic, affordable 16-size wheels. On versions C250 and older, it is quite justified to install tires on the rear axle that are a couple of centimeters wider than the front ones. Even on a slightly dusty road, pressing the gas early leads to drift of the stern, and even more so in rain or ice. True, you only have time to get scared in the Sport+ mode, when the stabilization system, although not completely, weakens the bridle. However, any “tseshka” obeys the steering wheel perfectly. With proper skill, the car will allow you to play at being an athlete.

For a car with a long (2.84 m) wheelbase, the C-Class has excellent maneuverability. It will unfold on a “patch” with a diameter of 11.2 meters. For comparison: the Opel Vectra has a wheelbase that is 10 cm shorter and a turning circle that is 20 cm larger. It will lose in this discipline to Mercedes and the three-ruble car to BMW. In a tight parking lot, the “tseshka” lays claim to the title of class record holder.

A small (41 l) fuel tank will force you to stop at gas stations more often. However, for an additional payment, the factory will install another one - 25 liters more

And with the choice of engine everything became clear immediately. Although the basic 1.6 “turbo” produces 156 hp, you can live in harmony with it only if you are not in a hurry. Despite the fact that, according to the passport, the engine enters the maximum torque zone at 1200 rpm. Euro-6 standards have made it so that it is convenient to control the speed only at speeds not lower than average, and change gears manually. If you need to quickly overtake while moving, you will have to get used to the delays in the automatic transmission.

If the C250 were cheaper, many would definitely choose it. You can’t fool physics: the 2-liter engine under the hood is better in every way than the 1.6. The C250, even when restrained by the 7G-tronic, still responds noticeably faster to the gas pedal. There is no need to remember about some kind of sports mode, there are already enough dynamics. Even the steering force on the C250 is more transparent.

However, anyone who at least once tries how to transport a diesel engine will certainly be imbued with the greatest sympathy for this particular engine. Here, to go fast, you don’t need to squeeze the juices out of the engine. As hard as I pressed, I drove off vigorously. Previously, this could have been written about a “tseshka” with a compressor or a good V6. Now the same statement is true only for diesel engines.

Finally, a Mercedes, as before, can be safely bought for the winter. Ground clearance of 160 mm and fairly high bumpers and sills allow you not to be afraid of most bumps. And of course, it’s most comfortable to drive the all-wheel drive version. It’s a pity that we have 4Matic tied to an expensive diesel engine.

What well

+ Smooth ride on 16- and 17-inch wheels

+ Sports mode for suspension and powertrain settings

+ Precise, efficient brakes

+ Noise insulation

+ Abundance of electronic security features

+ Large steering angle

What is wrong

- Low-transparent feedback on the steering wheel version C180

- Combination of increased ground clearance and 18-inch tires

- Noisy and insufficiently grippy runflat tires

- Suspension arm located close to the wheel

Bottom line

In a show about aristocrats, good taste and refined manners, the C-Class remains in command. He still plays the role of a car, the owner of which needs to appear as a wealthy person, perfectly. The whims of this actor are not so significant as to deny him recognition and applause. Just keep in mind that in scenes with chases you can’t demand much from the basic C180, and it’s better to immediately drive away a dresser who brings shoes larger than 17 inches into the dressing room.

Any Mercedes-Benz sedan is, first of all, prestige and a high position in society. The new C-class in the W205 body is no exception. In the role of a car for a wealthy lady or in the role of a car for a “Russian burgher” who simply does not need a larger Mercedes, this actor is an example to follow. However, no matter how ideal his game may seem to you at first, it, alas, is not without its flaws.

On the Russian market, the car was offered in two trim levels: “Special Series” and Sport AMG Line. The manufacturer offers an impressive range of equipment, including a touch display (7 or 8.4 inches diagonal) with voice control, gestures and handwriting function, as well as a projector on the windshield of basic indications, such as current speed, speed limits, tips navigation and other messages. It is interesting to note the air conditioning system: based on navigation data, it automatically closes the air intake damper while the car is driving through the tunnel. An optional fragrance and air ionizer are available. Options also include a Burmester audio system, a 360-degree video system, leather interior, keyless entry, a panoramic roof, and more.

The base engine was a 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine (C180) M 274 DE 16 with 156 hp. With it, the sedan is able to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in 8.5 seconds. On the Russian market, the line of modernized petrol turbo-fours of the M 274 series is also represented by the C 200 4MATIC (2.0 l, 184 hp) and C 250 (2.0 l, 211 hp) models, their acceleration performance is 0 -100 km/h - 7.6 and 6.6 seconds. In October 2014, Mercedes-Benz presented the new C 63 AMG and C 63 S AMG, equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 engine of the M177 series with an output of 476 and 510 “horses” - according to the indicators, they are capable of sprinting up to “hundreds” in 4.2 and 4.1 seconds. The more budget version of the all-wheel drive sports sedan C 43 AMG 4MATIC also looks quite fast - 4.7 seconds. The company has also prepared hybrid modifications. In the C 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, the 204-horsepower diesel engine is paired with a 27-hp electric motor. This tandem will reduce the declared fuel consumption to 3.9 liters per 100 km. Drive is traditionally to the rear wheels. The C 350 E Plug-In Hybrid model (petrol 211-horsepower turbo engine and 80-horsepower electric motor) is distinguished by the ability to recharge from a household electrical outlet, and gasoline consumption is stated at 2.4 l/100 km. Tank volume - 41 or 66 liters.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205 chassis features a new 4-link front suspension and an optimized 5-link setup at the rear. Buyers have the opportunity to choose a suspension: in addition to the standard version, a sports version with a ground clearance lowered by 15 mm and more rigid settings is available, as well as Airmatic air suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers with five modes (Comfort, Eco, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual) and adaptive algorithm with automatic selection of operating modes. The flagship AMG C63 model includes the AMG Ride Contol sports suspension, a mechanically locking rear differential, and the AMG Dynamic Select system. With the change of generations, the C-Class sedan became 9.5 cm longer than its predecessor (its length is 4686 mm), and the wheelbase increased from 2760 to 2840 mm. The width and height of the body are 1810 and 1442 mm (previous figures were 1770 x 1447 mm). The minimum turning radius has increased slightly - from 5.4 to 5.6 m. The trunk has increased by 30 liters and now its volume is 480 l (the C 350 e model is noticeably more modest - 335 l).

The C-Class W205 received numerous electronic driving assistance systems that make up a complex called Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive. A set of sensors allows you to detect cars in blind spots, pedestrians, markings and road signs, giving an emergency braking signal if necessary. A special Attention Assist system can detect driver fatigue, and the Stop&Go Pilot system will allow you to drive on “autopilot” in city traffic jams at speeds of up to 60 km/h. The car can be equipped with dynamic headlights with LED Intelligent Light System. Nine airbags are responsible for the lives of the driver and passengers. The C-Class W205 received very high scores in crash tests.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205 features a wide range of safety equipment, numerous modern technologies, eye-catching design and comfort comparable to higher-class models. At the same time, the owners also note some weak points of the C-Class in the 205 body: more demanding and maintenance-demanding engines, a rigid chassis (especially on standard runflat tires), lack of a spare wheel/replacement wheel, and a small standard tank.
