Where is Datsun assembled? Datsun Mi Do: who is the manufacturer? History of the Datsun brand

The Russian automobile market is flooded with new small budget cars and it is difficult to distinguish a high-quality car from a low-quality one.
The Datsun company was created in 1911, and the first car was born in 1914 and was called DAT-GO.

Datsun is a Japanese brand that was absorbed by Nissan in 1934. In the 1980s, the Nissan company decided to abandon the Datsun brand, and by the end of the decade, cars of this brand were forgotten.

The brand was revived again 101 years after its founding - in 2012. Under the Datsun brand, the new Datsun GO was born in 2013.

Since Datsun cars were created for countries with a rapidly growing car market, the first country where the GO was introduced and supplied was not Japan, but India.

Currently, cars of this brand are also sold in Russia, where a large company has been deployed to sell them.

Where is Datsun assembled?

Although Datsun is a Japanese brand, the models are built on the basis of domestic cars LADA Granta (Datsun on-DO) and LADA Kalina (Datsun Mi-DO), as well as the Japanese Nissan Micra (Datsun Go), which is currently not sold in Russia. It is not surprising that Datsuns were created on the basis of domestic Ladas, since AvtoVAZ has been part of the Renault-Nissan holding for quite a long time.

Production of Datsun cars for Russia carried out exactly in our country - like most modern cars. Moreover, Datsun is a budget car and if it were produced abroad, it would cost significantly more. Datsun is also produced in India and Indonesia and supplied to local markets and markets of neighboring countries, respectively. So Datsuns that are produced in Russia are also supplied to Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Where is Datsun On Do (Mi Do) assembled for Russia

As we have already said, Datsun cars are based on domestic Ladas, which is why they are produced in Russia. If we talk about a specific region, then this is the city of Togliatti and the AvtoVAZ plant. That is, the Japanese Datsun is assembled by the same people who assemble the Lada.

There are not many large Nissan factories in the world. There is one in Russia, located in St. Petersburg. But it produces Nissan Qashqai, Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Murano, Nissan Pathfinder.

You should not be upset, because the same AVTOVAZ plant also produces Nissan Sentra and Nissan Almera cars. In addition, AVTOVAZ factories meet Nissan's global requirements and produce much higher quality products than several decades ago.

If we talk about the percentage of domestic spare parts in a Datsun car, then by far the majority are Russian. The main difference from the Granta or Kalina is the design (both the body and the interior). In addition, some changes have been made in terms of improving sound insulation.

The power units should also be mentioned: Datsun ON-DO and MI-DO, 1.6 engines with 87 or 106 hp are installed. (8 and 16 valve) - similar internal combustion engines are installed on FRAMES. There are two gearboxes: a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. Of course, these are far from the most modern units, but they are what make it possible to sell cars at a relatively low price and also ensure reliability.

If we talk about prestige, then the cars are noticeably budget-friendly and do not evoke any special admiration or respect either on the road or in the city. On the other hand, Japanese cars are valued in our country, and the manufacturer relied on this.

Datsun MI-DO engine loss

The main problem of the Datsun MI-DO car is the problem with the engine falling out. Manufacturer statement of violation of operating conditions. There were several such cases, especially on the first cars. This is due to a common platform with the LADA Kalina, on which a similar problem also occurred.

Datsun logo

In connection with the revival of the brand, it was decided to create a new logo.

Datsun emblem comparison

The classic Datsun logo was based on the Japanese flag and the slogan "Land of the Rising Sun". After Nissan took over the company, the only thing that changed was the word "Datsun" was changed to "Nissan".

In 2012, the logo was changed, and the Datsun name was chosen because it is very important to Nissan. The company hopes that buyers will start by choosing inexpensive Datsuns and then move on to more expensive and prestigious Nissans and Infinitis.

What does Datsun mean?

DAT is an acronym for the initial letters of the company's founders - Kinjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama and Meitaro Takeuchi. In addition, the brand talks about three important automobile properties: reliability (durable), attractive (attractive) and reliability (trustworthy) - DAT. The first company was called DAT Jidosha Seizo.

In 1931, production of a car called DATson began. Son - from English “son”, so the brand name can be translated as son of DAT. Unfortunately, the word “son” is consonant with the Japanese “loss”, which could not be allowed, so the car is called "Datsun". Since then, the name of the brand has stuck, and the models have already been called differently, but in the first versions these were numbers: 12, 13, 14. Then 110, 210, 310.

In 1966, it was decided that the models should now be called differently and a competition was held, as a result of which the Datsun Sunny (“solar”) car appeared.

After the revival of the brand in 2013, the company name began to stand for dream, accessibility, trust. First of all, the car was aimed at young people.

Datsun plans

The Datsun GO car is not supplied to Russia. As already mentioned, it is built on the same platform as the Nissan Micra and is popular, for example, in India.
In the modern world, crossovers or pseudo-crossovers are gaining increasing relevance. A separate popular class is the compact crossover. Datsun also plans to release a compact crossover. Preliminary name: Datsun GO-cross.

Datsun GO-cross - compact crossover

I got to the AVTOVAZ plant thanks to the launch of production of the Datsun on-DO family sedan, developed specifically for the Russian market. The opening took place without much fanfare, words were said, hands were shaken, the curtain was opened, and the car was rolled out. TA-dah! That's all. The most interesting thing for me was to look at how the Zhiguli was assembled, about quality control, about the assembly line of the B0 conveyor (a joint creation of the Russian-French-Japanese alliance).

"The Case of Master BO"

The main character is Boo Andersson. He grew up in southern Sweden and joined the Swedish armed forces at the age of 19. He is a graduate of the Swedish Military Academy, holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Stockholm University and is a graduate of Harvard University's Senior Management Program. In the Swedish Armed Forces he rose to the rank of major.

The Board of Directors of OJSC AVTOVAZ approved Andersson as President on November 5, 2013. He took office on January 13, 2014. Since that time, Bo Andersson became the chairman of the board of AVTOVAZ.

“The first thing I did was go to production. Early in the morning I went to several restrooms and found that they were very dirty and some did not work at all. The team was well prepared for the meeting with me, because they had three months to do so, so I did not need an official introduction to the team. I said, “Focus on one thing today—the restrooms. Make sure people can use them."

And he did! And not just restrooms. The surrounding area is very clean!

In communication he is gentle, intelligent and very focused on success. Lives in Tolyatti, flies economy class.

All signs are in the updated corporate style of LADA - DATSUN.

Smoking, littering and riding mopeds are strictly prohibited on the territory of the enterprise. Therefore, if you need to go to another workshop, you take your bike and go.

The conveyor line itself is two-story. The machine is assembled in several stages.

These are the cleaners who travel around the workshops. Everything is completely sterile!

OTK. They check the numbers and equipment.

They start the engine and send it to the stand, where they do the wheel alignment.

Another one.

And once again OTC. Total quality control. I checked it personally!

Grease, touch up, check.

And so, the finished car is sent to the car dealership.

Personally, I have an excellent impression of the plant. Of course, the asshole guards and pretentious and tastelessly dressed managers have not gone away. But things are moving.

A little about the plant where Datsun is assembled

Production of the Datsun on-Do model and the entire Datsun brand will take place at the AvtoVAZ plant in Tolyatti.

In the picture above, we see just the moment the sedan is assembled at the enterprise.

But we all know about the “bewitched” place where current Lada cars are produced. What should you expect from Datsun?

According to official statements by the company, in preparation for the Datsun project, a lot of modernization was done and enough attention was paid to the process of this very preparation. Last year, Nissan conducted an audit of the VAZ assembly line, on which the on-Do sedan will be assembled. And as you know, more than forty recommendations were issued to improve production.

These recommendations included such things as: - the introduction of new standards for quality control of manufactured products; - the expansion of the final acceptance zone for the vehicle; - the replacement of equipment, even such as boxes for dragging spare parts; and many others.

How much better is Datsun than Lada: long test - test drive, review of Datsun mi-DO, Datsun on-DO

The two burned their passports, went to plastic surgeons and began a new life in Russia incognito, posing as Japanese citizens. But with close contact with Datsun, anyone who is familiar with AvtoVAZ products will quickly see through old acquaintances. The first to give themselves away are the humming gearbox and grunting engine. Next comes the poor build quality. But it won’t be without pleasant discoveries. So what did Lada change to become Japanese: a personality or just a guise?

Despite the different design of the head optics, the headlights of both models shine very well

We drove two different Datsuns for two months and came to the conclusion that the optimal choice is a sedan with a manual in the mid-upper configuration. But the mi-Do hatchback is one of the most affordable models with an automatic transmission on the Russian market. And for the sake of this, some inconveniences can probably be tolerated. For example, that you are unlikely to ever be able to get used to the strange behavior of the brake pedal, which I talked about in detail in the first part of the long-term Datsun test. Probably, the headlights and radiator grille for this model will be in high demand.

Another feature of the automatic Datsun is the ability to... stall while stopping! Once again, a car with an automatic transmission, without newfangled start-stop systems, can stall during a stop. Datsun representatives are aware of this problem and promise to fix it soon. The automatic selector also does not shine with convenience - when you turn on D, no, no, you will slip further into position 1 or 2. You realize the mistake after the start, when the gearbox, following the instructions not to shift higher, makes the engine run noisily at higher speeds.

If you do not pay attention to numerous extraneous sounds, the sound insulation in Datsun is decent by class standards

The manual transmission on the test sedan worked adequately, but was annoying with the well-known VAZ howl. The mi-Do hatchback responded with a rumble somewhere in the front suspension or steering, as well as the creaking of seats and interior panels. Even more blatant was the groan of the hatch body under... any intense braking! Against such a background, the whistle of the pads was taken for granted. However, the sedan also did not try to seem quiet: its pedals creaked just like on a hatchback, and the hood hinges made a rich crunch when it was raised. It seems that Datsun is the first Japanese car in history to require a native Russian “broach” after leaving the showroom.

Numerous flaws in the assembly of Datsuns give them away as a donor named Lada. The engine “sweats” in the area of the valve cover gasket - a well-known disease of VAZ units. Fasteners in the engine compartment rust rapidly

And if from the point of view of the number of extraneous sounds the test on-Do still turned out to be more solid, then in terms of the quality of the body assembly it was already inferior to the specific mi-Do. On the sedan, the trunk lid tore itself off against the rear fender, and the front fender does not form a single plane with the door. Same problem with the gas filler flap and rear fender. On the five-door, the front bumper fit perfectly, but on the four-door model, not so much. The badges on the radiator grilles have peeled off on both almost new cars. The doors are thin and close loudly, and when you turn on the audio system, cheap speakers make a dull thud.

The automatic window lifter mode is not activated immediately, and the glass itself does not go all the way down, even from the front. Climate control is based on the warm-cold principle and does not allow you to set the exact temperature value in automatic mode

In the sedan's interior, you can see how the plastic linings on the A-pillars of the roof have swelled from heating by the hot summer sun. The interior of both models has a pronounced “Zhiguli” aroma. There are also questions about ergonomics: to close the driver's door from the inside, you have to literally dive into the opening. The steering wheel is not adjustable for reach, so not everyone will find the ideal fit. But the comfortable chairs are pleasing: covering a long route in them will not be difficult. There are also small joys in the cabin: an easy-to-read instrument panel, a convenient niche for a mobile phone, and a turn signal trained for triple blinking.

The beautiful cornflower blue frame of the scales suddenly begins to play with color in the sun. The on-board computer shows the range dynamically: how you press the pedal at a particular moment, how many kilometers will be shown to you

What pleased me most with the Datsuns was that they were easy to drive fast. Excellent visibility, a very peppy engine and an omnivorous suspension allow you to rush without having to worry about the road. At such moments, the efforts on the controls and extraneous sounds become uncritical. True, you will have to come to terms with almost motorcycle-like rolls, as well as the fact that there is no more reliable information on the steering wheel than on the central television channels.

In the rain, the weak Zhiguli windshield wipers do a mediocre job. The alarm system of one of the test cars sometimes allowed itself to be triggered randomly

On-Do and mi-DO are approximately as much better than our own original as they are more expensive - about 10%.

The revived Japanese brand Datsun, which belongs to Nissan, is now focused on producing budget cars. The manufacturer's first model was the budget sedan Datsun on-DO, developed specifically for the Russian market. Its presentation took place on April 4, 2014 in Moscow.

The new Datsun on-DO 2019 (photo and price) is built on the basis of the Lada Kalina 2, and specialists from the Nissan global center located in Japan worked on the design of the model. The car received a hexagonal radiator grille, which has become a signature feature of Datsun models, large lighting equipment and a large rear overhang.

Options and prices Datsun on-DO 2019

MT5 - 5-speed manual, AT4 - 4-speed automatic.

In general, the appearance of the 2019 Datsun on-DO resembles Grant, especially in profile. But the abandonment of windows in the rear pillars visually made the already impressive stern even heavier. This makes the sedan look somewhat disproportionate and heavy.

The overall length of the Datsun on-DO is 4,337 mm - this is 77 mm longer than that of the Lada Granta, but their width (1,700) and height (1,500) are completely identical. At the same time, the trunk volume of the Datsun is 530 liters (10 liters larger than the Grant compartment), and the ground clearance is as much as 185 millimeters (when fully loaded, the ground clearance decreases to 168 mm).

The architecture of the sedan's interior is also very similar to Grant's. The steering wheel and instrument panel, climate control unit and dashboard were borrowed from the latter. But the design of the front panel and the organization of the center console are designed in a different style.

For a long time, only the 1.6-liter 8-valve VAZ engine, available with 82 and 87 hp, was available as a power unit for the Datsun on-DO 2019. (140 Nm). It is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission (a version with a four-speed Jatco automatic appeared in the fall of 2016). The entry-level sedan accelerates from zero to hundreds in 12.9 seconds. (the 87-horsepower version is 0.7 s faster), and the top speed is 165 and 173 km/h, respectively.

In the fall of two thousand and seventeen, a sixteen-valve 1.6 with a power of 106 hp appeared in the line, but, unlike the original, here the main pair for it was changed from 3.7: 1 to 3.9: 1, which made it possible to reduce the acceleration time to hundreds from 10.9 (on Ladas) to 10.5 seconds. For now, the top-end engine is only available with automatic transmission, but in the future it will also be available with an automatic transmission.

Car production was established at the Volzhsky Automobile Plant in Togliatti, sales of the new product started in the summer of 2014. The price of the new Datsun on-DO 2019 in the basic Access version is 461,000 rubles, and the cost of the car in more advanced Trust and Dream trim levels starts from 493,000 and 552,000 rubles, respectively. The surcharge for automatic transmission (available only for the 87-horsepower engine) is 50,000 rubles, and versions with a 106-horsepower engine are 15,000 more expensive than the 87-horsepower ones.

  • The initial version of the sedan is equipped with a driver's airbag, electric power steering, ABS + EBD (electronic brake force distribution), brake assist (BAS), height-adjustable steering column, heated front seats and folding rear seat backs.
  • The intermediate version of Trust has two front airbags, fog lights, electrically adjustable and heated side mirrors, an on-board computer and central locking. And for an additional fee, such a car can be equipped with climate control and a multimedia system with Bluetooth and four speakers.
  • Finally, the top-end Datsun on-DO is already equipped with multimedia and climate control as standard, plus the Dream version sports rear electric windows and 15-inch alloy wheels. At the same time, a stabilization system, side airbags, light and rain sensors, rear parking sensors and a standard navigation system with a 7.0-inch color display are optionally available.

To implement the model, a branded dealer network is being created, which at first was represented only in 15 cities (Volgograd, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Orenburg, Ryazan, Samara, Tyumen, Ulyanovsk, Ufa, Khabarovsk, Chelyabinsk), but over time it should cover all major cities, and the number of centers will reach hundreds.

The decoding of the name of this model also deserves special mention. According to the manufacturer, the word “DO” is associated with Japanese traditional culture and is translated into Russian as “path” (also means movement), and “on” is consonant with the pronoun “he,” which is intended to “emphasize the masculine component in the character of the car.”

In general, the name of the car can be translated as “the brand’s desire to open access to mobility and freedom of movement for everyone.”

Datsun is one of the Japanese automobile brands owned by Nissan. Before the takeover by Nissan, production of cars under its own Datsun brand began in 1931. Nissan stopped making Datsun cars in 1986, but relaunched it in 2013 as a brand for low-cost cars made for emerging markets.

Origin of Datsun

Even before the Datsun brand, the DAT car was born in 1914, produced by Kaishinsha Motorcar Works in Tokyo. The name of the new car was an abbreviation of the names of the following company partners:

Den Kenjiro - D (田健)

Aoyama Rokuro - A (青山禄)

Takeuchi Meitaro - T (竹内明太郎)

Kaishinsha Motorcar Works was renamed Kaishinsha Motorcar Co. in 1918, seven years after their establishment. In 1925 the company was again renamed DAT Motorcar Co. The company's production was focused on trucks, since there was almost no consumer market for passenger cars at the time. Beginning in 1918, the first DAT trucks were assembled for military purposes. Low demand in the military market during the 1920s led DAT to consider merging with other firms in the auto industry.

In 1926, Tokyo-based DAT Motors merged with Osako-based Jitsuyo Jidosha Co., also known as Jitsuyo Motors (established in 1919 as a subsidiary of Kubota). In Osaka, Jitsuyo Jidosha began producing the three-wheeled Gorham enclosed cab vehicle in 1920, and produced a four-wheeled version the following year. From 1923 to 1925, the company produced cars and trucks under the name Lila.

In 1930, the Japanese government issued a regulation allowing cars with an engine capacity of up to 500 cm³ to be driven without a driver's license. DAT Jidosha Seizo Co., Ltd. began developing a series of 495cc cars to capture a new market segment, calling the new small cars "Datson" - meaning "Son of DAT".

In 1931, DAT Jidosha Seizo Co., Ltd. became a subsidiary of Tobata Casting Co., Ltd. By this time, the first cars with 495 cm³ engines were assembled. The first series of cars was called the Datson Type 10, and about ten of these cars were sold in 1931. In 1932, about 150 cars were sold, called the model Datson Type 11. In 1933, the Japanese government issued a new regulation allowing cars with an engine up to 750 cc to be driven. without a driver's license. Datsun has increased the displacement of its engines to the maximum allowed. These large cars were called Type 12.

In 1934, the company name was changed to Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. When Nissan took control of DAT, the name "Datson" was changed to "Datsun" because "son" also means "loss" from the Japanese 損, and also in honor of the sun that appears on the national flag.

By 1935 the company had established a true production line in the Henry Ford mold, producing a car very similar to the Austin 7. There is evidence that six of these early Datsun cars were exported to New Zealand in 1936.

After Japan went to war with China in 1937, passenger car production was limited. Therefore, by 1938, the Datsun plant was focused on creating trucks for the Imperial Japanese Army.

When the Pacific War ended, Datsun provided transport for the occupying forces. This continued until car production resumed in 1947. As before the war, Datsun models continued to borrow from Austin Motor Company cars: the Austin A40 Devon and Austin A40 Somerset.

In 1958, deliveries of Datsun cars to the United States began, and in 1964, Nissan became the first Japanese company to become one of the ten largest auto importers in the United States.

In 1959, Nissan opened its first overseas assembly plant in Taiwan.

In 1962, car deliveries to Europe began.

In 1976, thanks to its own fleet, Nissan became the largest car exporter in the world.

In 1981, Nissan signed an agreement with Volkswagen to produce and sell passenger cars in Japan.

In the fall of 1981, a decision was announced: to abandon the use of the Datsun brand name in order to strengthen the Nissan brand.

In 2001, Nissan launched the D22 pickup truck into the Japanese market under the Datsun name. However, this time, the use of the trademark was completely limited to this one specific model. Production of this model was between May 2001 and October 2002.

On March 20, 2012, it was announced that Nissan would revive the Datsun brand for use in Indonesia, South Africa, India and Russia.

In February 2014, the Redi-Go concept car was unveiled. The Redi-Go SUV is expected to hit Indian shores by mid-2015.

In April 2014, the first model for the Russian market, Datsun on-Do, was launched, based on the Lada Granta.

Modern models:

Datsun Go (since 2013)

Datsun Go+ (since 2013)

Datsun on-Do (since 2014)

It's Datsun

In the Service, Maintenance, Tuning section, the question is, whose brand of car is Datsun? asked by the author Orik, the best answer is Datsun - the oldest Japanese brand! This is the first name of the current Nissan. At one time, cars under these brands were produced in parallel for different markets, and then gradually the name "Nissan" replaced "Datsun" - marketing, however... Now The Renault-Nissan-AvtoVAZ alliance decided to revive the Datsun brand as a budget car label. In the hierarchy of the alliance in Russia, the brand occupies a place between Lada and Renault. In each of the markets where the Datsun brand is promoted, its own platform is chosen for its production! Thus, in the markets of India, Indonesia and South Africa, locally assembled Datsun GO based on the Nissan Micra/March is sold. In Russia, to reduce costs, the alliance chose the proven and well-proven “local” Lada Kalina/Granta platform for the Datsun Mi-Do / On-Do .

Answer from Yergey Trunov [guru] Well, it’s kind of Japanese. It was released a long time ago. Recently the assembly was revived at VAZ. And on the VAZ platform. Outwardly they look like the Lada Kalina and Lada Granta, but the Datsuns have a better modified suspension.

Answer from Mikhail Khvedchenya [guru] This is from the Japanese company Nissan. There were no prices for 4 VD pickups with a TD 27 engine. Practically indestructible.

Answer from Alexey[guru]originally Japanese. and separate, in itself. like Toyota or Mitsubishi. then it was bought by the Renault-Nissan alliance. and established production at the vase. so it's essentially a transatlantic company now.

Where is Datsun On Do assembled in Russia?

Once upon a time, when the grass was greener and cars were more reliable, there was such a company as Datsun. More precisely, not really a company, but one of the “side” branches of the famous Toyota. This company was engaged in the production of cheap and high-quality cars. They were widely popular almost all over the world, they were known even in our country. Recently the company found a “second wind”: the “On Do” model was revived especially for Russia. Would you like to know where the Datsun On Do is assembled?

Datsun On Do: where is it assembled in Russia?

Yes, yes, you heard right. This foreign car (and I can’t even call it one) is born on the stocks of... AvtoVAZ! And the history of the Russian Datsun began, no matter how crazy it may sound... With the legendary “Kalina”! The thing is that to assemble this model, the plant’s conveyor was almost completely redone. More precisely, reassembled. It was necessary to achieve such quality that the car could at least to some extent compete with foreign analogues. It must be said that the workers of Togliatti practically succeeded.

Today, when more than ten years have passed since the assembly of the first Kalina, the “new” conveyor makes it possible to produce Grants and other cars, the quality of which is unusually high for the domestic automotive industry. Wait, but what does this have to do with Datsun, the country of origin of which was originally located somewhat to the east? Let's figure it out now.

Adventures of the Japanese in Russia

As is known, in the recent past, the Japanese, like the French, became the owners of a controlling stake in AvtoVAZ. And, if somehow it didn’t work out with the French specialists, then with the Japanese comrades everything turned out great. It was they who proposed a new idea: assembling the legendary brand at the facilities of a domestic plant! The idea was picked up by domestic specialists, and now the equipment of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant successfully produces components for “Japanese Russian foreign cars.”

History of the Datsun car brand

DATSUN AGE

It all started with the Kaishin Sha Motor Works automobile factory in Tokyo's Azabu Hiru neighborhood.

  • The founder of the factory, 37-year-old Masujiro Hashimoto (1875-1944), graduated from the Tokyo Industrial School in Kuramae, after which the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture and Trade sent him as the best graduate to study engineering in the USA. Hashimoto-san returned to Japan with the firm intention of starting car production.

  • Hashimoto cars are sold under the name DAT. This abbreviation is formed from the initial letters of the main investors of the Kaishin-sha factory, Kinjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama and Meitaro Takeuchi. This name also reflects the concept of DAT cars of that time: Durable - reliable, Attractive - attractive, Trustworthy - trustworthy.

  • The company Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha (Practical Car Manufacturing Company) is founded in Osaka. It is considered to be another ancestor of the modern Datsun. The company produces three- and four-wheeled auto-rickshaws designed by American aircraft designer William Gorham (1888 – 1949). A passionate Japanophile, Mr. Gorham settled in Japan, took the name Gohamo Katsundo, and did not leave the islands even during World War II. Thanks to the fact that Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha

  • Kwaishin-sha and Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha companies merge. The new company is named DAT Jidosha Seizo.

  • In Osaka, at the plant formerly owned by the Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha company, production of the Datson subcompact car begins. The name literally translates as “son of DAT,” but it would be more accurate to say “child of DAT.” Later, the name of the car was changed to Datsun, since “son” is similar to the Japanese word for “loss.” Cars of the brand receive a new emblem.

  • On December 26, everything related to the production of automobiles at the Nihon Sanyo zaibatsu becomes the responsibility of a new company, Jidosha Seizo Kabushiki Kaisha. English name – Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Production of the Datsun 12 begins.

  • In June, the company was renamed Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. 59% of its assets belong to Nihon Sanyo, 39% to Tobata Foundation, and the remaining 2% is distributed among members of the Yoshisuke Ayukawa family. In April, production of the Datsun 13 begins. The first samples of cars are exported.

  • On April 12, the opening of a new plant in Yokohama took place. This is the first enterprise in Japan where car production was carried out using the conveyor method. The first model to roll off the conveyor belt was the Datsun 14 sedan. The plant produced approximately 500 cars per month.

  • Production of the Datsun 110 begins in January. After several attempts to build a modern car, this is the first real success. At the Second Tokyo Motor Show, which opened in May at Hibuya Park, the Datsun 110 became a real sensation.

  • On January 10, the Datsun S211 pleasure roadster was demonstrated on the roof of the Tokyo department store Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. Its designer, Hiro Ohta, stuck to the best examples of British sports cars of the time.

  • In August, the Datsun Bluebird 310 was introduced – a new word in the history of the brand. The designer of the model is Teiichi Hara. The car received a monocoque body of modern proportions (length - 3910 mm, wheelbase - 2280 mm) and an independent double-wishbone front suspension. The car's name, "Blue Bird", refers to the play by Maurice Maeterlinck.

  • In September, the production division of Nissan Mexicana S.A. was formed. de C.V. Five years later it will begin producing cars.

  • On February 19, the company announces the results of the competition for the name of the new subcompact model, known under the internal designation Datsun B10. Most of the eight and a half million participants preferred the name Sunny. The Datsun Sunny was first presented to the general public in April, and mass production began at the Zama plant in June.

  • In October, a landmark decision was made to introduce a single Nissan brand for all automobile products of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. The process began with the US market and took three years (1982 – 1984). It was accompanied by a specialized advertising campaign "Datsun by Nissan". In other markets the process continued until 1986. The renaming cost the company $500 million.
  • In March, Carlos Ghosn, President and Senior Executive Officer, announced plans for Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. to revive the Datsun brand as part of Power 88's strategic development plan.
  • On July 15, 2013, Carlos Ghosn introduced the new Datsun Go car in India. The model is designed for young buyers. The three pillars of the revived Datsun are Dream, Access and Trust. Datsun vehicles will be presented in the most dynamically growing markets of India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.
