Renault Logan in the new body has the main problems. Weaknesses and main disadvantages of Renault Logan with mileage

Hello, Nikolay here. Today I decided to show the shortcomings of the new Renault Logan 2 and the problems that the owner of the new Renault Logan 2 will have to face, alter or get used to. I purchased the car about a month ago. Before that, I had the previous generation Logan and Duster and Largus. That is, I know many of the problems of B0 platform machines.

Let's start with the most important thing - the body. In appearance, Logan 2 looks much more impressive than its predecessor, but the quality of painting at AvtoVAZ is very poor.

I have a hood deflector on my car, but with less than 2000 km on the highway, quite deep chips appeared.

Another disadvantage of the new Renault Logan 2 is the absence of wheel arch moldings at the front, which covered the edge of the wing from sandblasting when driving on our roads. There are no moldings on the rear arches either. But I’ll say right away that there are holes there and the moldings from the old Logan fit - you’ll have to install it yourself.

The standard mudguards are made of plastic and the doors and rear bumper throw mud very vigorously. The problem with all Logans is opening the trunk when it’s muddy outside. When you press the button, the trunk does not lift itself and you have to get your hands dirty on the trunk lid.

Disadvantages of the trunk of the new Renault Logan 2

As for the trunk, the lack of trim is not surprising, but at least there is a handle.

Another disadvantage of the new Renault Logan is that the hinges for attaching the trunk lid eat up space for bags.

From the factory, the threshold and lights are not covered with plastic and there will be scratches on the metal during loading/unloading.

On the plus side, the spare tire has a huge compartment and a folding rear seat backrest.

The tools - jack and keys - are all nearby.

The wire lights stick out and can be accidentally touched and torn off.

The trunk itself is huge – 510 liters.

Disadvantages of the rear window and gas tank flap of the new Renault Logan 2

Rear window - the wide area at the top is not heated - very sad in winter - the visible space is reduced significantly.

Gas tank flap - there is a key for the lid, but walking around a gas station with a cap and a key is not very fun. Moreover, you need to turn off the car - this is inconvenient in winter - we immediately turn off the heating of the cabin and quickly run to refuel so that the passengers do not freeze.

Disadvantages under the hood of the new Renault Logan 2

The hood has a huge plus - the hood stop. Thank you very much to the designers for this. But when we look under the hood, we immediately see a drawback - the engine compartment is dirty and I had to install a hood seal. The hood cable rattles when driving - I had to wrap it in a soft tube.

The washer reservoir is secured with one bolt - it starts to drum when driving when empty.

When replacing bulbs in low beam headlights, you will have to bend or even remove a bunch of hoses.

The power steering reservoir is a song - it's at the bottom right and it's generally unclear how to check the level.

Huge cells in the radiator grille give direct access to the radiator - you need to install a mesh.

About the engine of the new Renault Logan 2

My engine is H4M - a Nissan engine with 113 horsepower. The L7M and K4M engines are Renault engines - reliable and durable, but with high fuel consumption - at least 10 liters per 100 km during quiet driving. Moreover, with 8 valves the car only drives when empty, but when loaded it crawls.

The H4M engine has the advantage of good traction with fairly low consumption - 5 people plus a full trunk - I don’t experience any problems.

Disadvantages of the interior of the new Renault Logan 2

The back row of seats - the door opens wide - I can sit behind myself at a height of 180 cm.

A large shelf in the back, three L-shaped headrests, good visibility, two pockets and handles. There is ISOFIX, and finally a folding rear row.

There is an electric window lift, but the handle is very inconvenient - it’s difficult to grasp with your fingers - your hands slip out. And in front there are normal full handles.

In the cabin, there are buttons for seat heating, seat height adjustment, mirror adjustment and parking sensors, but there is no ESP switch off button - which is asking to replace the plug.

My car has ESP - they say it stifles the car - but I haven’t experienced any problems even in winter on hills - it all depends on the tires.

I have a standard radio - there are no frills, it plays well - the sound is average, but not for music lovers.

The steering column joystick is a controversial thing - but I’m fine with it - I got used to it quickly.

Disadvantages of the dashboard of the new Renault Logan 2

I have big complaints about the dashboard - there is no engine temperature sensor, no engine warm-up light.

On the old Logan, the computer had the time and settings. There is no such thing here - time is not fixed. There is still space on the screen, but it is not used at all.

The speedometer is digitized every 2 km/h - why is that? Maybe I don't like even numbers? You'll have to get used to this.

Disadvantages of electrical equipment of the new Renault Logan 2

The heated windshield is designed so that it will only work when the heating fan is at maximum. When you try to reduce the fan speed, the windshield heating turns off.

The climate control buttons and on the steering wheel do not raise any questions.

The seats have good lateral and lumbar support, and the seat heating works well.

Another disadvantage of the new Renault Logan is that previously there was a signal button in the left switch. She was moved to her usual place. But now the signal is a very nasty sound.

The windows are all electric, but none are automatic. The fuse box rattles on bumps.

The gaps on all the cars that I have seen are all different, one is assembled this way, the other is that way. In general, AvtoVAZ makes its presence felt.

Disadvantages of the new Renault Logan 2 when driving in the rain

When driving on the highway in rainy weather, the mirrors and windows become very covered in dirt. The viewing area of the side mirror on the glass is also stained with dirt from the same mirror, because the glass is not of the correct shape and has no water catchers.

Many foreign cars have drainage systems on the sides of the windshield that carry dirt and water from the glass to the roof. On the new Renault Logan, water from the wiper climbs onto the side window.

A peculiarity of the car is the noise or whine of the gearbox, especially at first speed. You'll also have to get used to it.

Overall, Renault Logan 2 is an excellent workhorse and is well suited for city life. That's all - leave your questions and feedback in the comments.

Renault Logan is a car that has many obvious advantages and is used by millions of people around the world. But despite all his impeccability, Logan has some weak spots. These shortcomings and problematic components arise mainly due to the use of inexpensive materials when assembling the car. We will look at the main problem areas in the infographics.

Engine

  • Sticking gas pedal at sub-zero temperatures. In cold weather, the pedal cable braid becomes deformed and can cause the cable to get stuck. In winter, it is necessary to lubricate the cable with machine frost-resistant oil.
  • Engine tripping and. It occurs after 10-15 thousand kilometers if you systematically fill in poor quality fuel.
  • Rapid wear of the camshaft oil seal.
  • The pump may fail after 30-40 thousand of the distance traveled.

Body

  • During operation, windshield wipers quickly wear out and a strong squeak appears. Needs replacement.
  • Poor quality of painting. Chips can appear quite quickly.
  • The front door stops are not tightened and are unscrewing.

Chassis

  • Wheel bearings rarely last longer than 30 thousand km due to lack of lubrication.
  • At 10-15 thousand mileage they break down.

Transmission

  • The crunching noise when engaging reverse gear is due to a design feature (there is no reverse gear synchronizer).

Headlights

  • The upper mounts of the headlights crack even on bad roads.
  • The front fog lights fall out due to vibration.

Brake system

  • Creaking and further failure of the rear brake force distributor. It starts with a mileage of 10 thousand km and requires lubrication every 10 thousand.
  • Uneven wear.

Mileage 60,000 km - the only thing that was abnormal was a torn boot on the gearshift lever. There were no more problems!

    2019-02-07 15:38:13

Maybe because I have a DACIA Logan, and not a Renault, this entire list does not fit my car (mileage 230k)

    2019-02-07 15:35:49

13 years mileage 130 thousand just now replacing the pump and a year ago Stoics plus replacing the balls three times the rest is better than Lada

Inaccurate information - I drove 40,000 km in Logan, the weak point is the crankshaft seal, front, rear, left inner drive boot. Bearings with a mileage of 73,000 are still good, I also don’t agree with the rest.

    2017-02-02 14:28:28

Outdated stereotypes, 90% of information is not true

    2017-01-22 07:57:22

Logan 2010 mileage 41000 km. I've owned it for 5 years. Great car. no breakdowns, no repairs

    2016-11-24 08:39:40

There were never such problems in phase 1; it started in phase 2, when the power cables were shortened by a few millimeters.

    2016-06-24 12:14:28

I can’t say that everything is as it is, I will only agree with the coloring and add the steering tips.

Breaking the wiring of the signal button on the left steering column switch is a common breakdown. And not only not in Logan, but also in other Renaults where the same unit is found.

Thanks for the idea about strong points, it's worth thinking about.

    2015-07-09 11:26:50

Phase 1 2008, mileage 85k, all rubber bands were changed at 70k (bushings, struts, rubber blocks) as well as brake discs. We welded the muffler, it rotted (it rotted even faster than the breakdown) Where are the statistics of strong points? Like the shock absorbers last more than a hundred, there are no problems with the engine at the 92nd gas station for 7 years, that the battery is still there from the factory even in cold weather at minus 38 without warming up it started the first time

Logan 1.6 16th grade 2011. From repairs, not counting scheduled maintenance, replacement of front brake discs every 80 thousand. mileage, 120 thousand. replacement of steering rods and front wheel bearings, 140 thousand. Resonator replacement, 160 thousand. replacement of ball joints and rear pads. 200 thousand I replace silent blocks and shock absorbers, wiring in the sound signal sensor every 40 thousand. I'm traveling around Moscow.

Renault Logan 2008, engine 1.4 - 8 cells. Mileage for 2014 - 121 thousand. I don’t consider this a breakdown, but my foglights cracked after 3 months, one after another. I didn’t even change it under warranty - I just turned it off. At 45 thousand, the windshield cracked, and it cracked not from a stone hitting it, but from under the left wiper - a crack appeared. Well, light bulbs burn out everywhere and always. Yes, the gas pedal began to sink after about half a year, I was terribly scared))). And the first serious breakdown happened at 75 thousand, the timing belt broke. Result - the valves are bent - Repair - 16 thousand. And so it’s normal. The suspension is excellent, the consumables for oils and filters are very small, and I change everything myself. I forgot. At the moment, almost all the backlighting of the front panel buttons has burned out - only the backlight of the right window lifter remains, the rest does not light up, but replacing all these buttons is quite expensive. So I don’t see the point in changing it. Good car. Anything is better than our Vedro-Vaz.

    2014-10-27 17:07:11

Renault Logan 2011 engine. 1.6 8 cells Mileage 81,000 km. First breakdown 31,000 km. The signal button stopped working - replacement under the steering switch under warranty. Second breakdown 60,000 km. The signal stopped working again. I didn’t change anything, I removed it, re-soldered it, and removed the factory defect with a soldering iron, melted the groove for the wire inside and I think it won’t break anymore. Third breakdown 75,000 km. The thermostat began to open earlier, the car did not warm up to operating temperature, 3-4 bars did not light up, I replaced it myself in 15-20 minutes. I changed the belts at 80,000 from the officials, I didn’t see the point in 60,000, they looked better than new ones. Door locks creaked on potholes, which can be fixed by installing silent locks or simply using electrical tape. The throttle cable can get stuck in severe frosts; you can feel the pedal being pressed in small “steps”, but it doesn’t hang back. I replaced the fog lights, took phase 1, H8 lamp from Logan, I don’t want to spend money on original psx 24w lamps, but they don’t shine well. I don't understand how they could fall out. There is a crunch in the rear gear when you turn it on suddenly, you need to pause for 2-3 seconds after releasing the clutch and there will be no crackling noise. I didn’t change or repair anything, the brake strut, etc. Overall a reliable car, it doesn’t have many weak points, at least in my case.

The information was selected based on reviews and comments from logan owners on thematic forums, blogs and websites. No one came up with anything out of the blue; all of the above diseases manifested themselves in one or another car owner (of course, not in one car at a time).

    2014-07-15 12:04:26

Sticking of the gas pedal in sub-zero temperatures does happen, but rarely once a winter at -35. I didn’t notice engine trouble on gasoline on gas when the engine was cold. The rapid wear of the camshaft oil seal did not change the mileage of 107 thousand. The pump may fail already at 30-40, I didn’t change anything. During operation, windshield wipers wear out quickly - depending on the climate and frequency of use. Poor quality of painting. Chips and scratches can appear quite quickly - this is not a disadvantage, it also depends on where the car is driven. The front door stops are not tightened and are unscrewed, mileage 107 thousand, everything is in place. Wheel bearings rarely last longer than 30 thousand km; I changed them to 107 along with the brake drums on the handbrake)))). At a mileage of 10-15 thousand, shock absorbers fail. also depends on the quality of our roads, if there is a hole in the hole and a hole drives everything possible, the front struts were changed twice for 60 and 107 rear struts 1 time for 100 thousand Crunch when engaging reverse gear - due to a design feature (there is no reverse gear synchronizer) there is such a thing, but for me doesn't interfere. The upper mounts of the headlights crack even on bad roads. The front fog lights fall out due to vibration. Where does this data come from? Creaking and further failure of the rear brake force distributor. It starts with a mileage of 10 thousand km and requires lubrication every 10 thousand. Uneven wear of the front brake pads. It’s also not clear where such data comes from.?

Large trunk, spacious interior, soft suspension. But there are also plenty of shortcomings. Moreover, most of them are the other side of the advantages: the manufacturer tried so hard to make the model cheaper that it sacrificed comfort.

Strengths

Simple and reliable design

Renault Logan is not chosen for comfort and dynamics. The main advantage of the “French” is that it (practically) does not break. That’s why all the taxi drivers in the country liked it so much: these guys know a lot about million-dollar runs.

The whole secret of Logan’s reliability is its simple and understandable design, which allows you to drive hundreds of thousands of kilometers simply by changing consumables and performing scheduled maintenance. Oil, filters, pads, headlight bulbs - that’s all the annual expenses of a typical Renault Logan owner. Moreover, this applies equally to both the old and the new Logan.

And even if something breaks in the Renault Logan, the large selection of spare parts and the maintainability of this model guarantee that there will be no problems with restoration.

Large trunk

The trunk volume of the Renault Logan is exemplary in its class. Just think about it: 510 liters. Only Ravon R4 has more.

True, the useful volume is hidden by the not very successful hinges of the lid when closing. Owners also complain about missing trunk trim.

But how much can you put in there: from suitcases for a couple of families and seedlings for the dacha to a baby stroller. Considering the small size of the machine itself, this is an excellent indicator!

Good suspension and maneuverability

No, she is not as “indestructible” as they say about her. And certain driver actions will bring Logan to the service station as quickly as any other car.

  • Usually, from neglect of potholes and speed bumps, the stabilizer struts and ball joints are the first to give up. The latter are replaced as an assembly, along with the levers.
  • If the owner does not heed the car’s requests for mercy, the shock absorbers will live long.
  • If you do not monitor the presence of grease in the wheel bearings, they will last only 30 thousand km.
  • But the rear suspension is quite reliable.

The good reputation of the Logan suspension is not about an endless resource, but about comfort. High energy intensity lulls the rider's attention: it seems that since the suspension dampens road irregularities well, then there are none.

After restyling in 2014, the suspension is more rigid and “collected”, which upsets some owners. But such settings allowed the manufacturer to balance body roll when turning.

As for the Logan's cross-country ability, its good ground clearance of 155 mm under load makes it quite convenient for dirt roads.

You only need to be careful with the front bumper: it hangs quite low, there is a risk of “landing” it on a high curb when parking in the city.

Design of a “non-taxi” car

At the beginning of his journey, Logan, frankly speaking, did not have any outstanding external qualities. And by the time of the 2014 restyling, it had become firmly associated with the “taximobile”.

The change of generations benefited the “French”. It is not very elegant among modern “state employees”, but changes in the exterior design at least made it possible to see the Renault Logan as an ordinary “civilian” car, and quite an attractive one at that. Modest, but tasteful.

And the new Logan Stepway with a ground clearance of 195 mm in a special body kit is absolutely a sight for sore eyes.

Weak sides

Thin metal, thin paintwork

This point is noted by many owners, and indeed, paint chips on the hood appear quite quickly even on a new car. There is a combination of two factors here - bad roads, but Logan was created as a car for the city. And, probably, the manufacturer’s desire to save on layers of paint.

The metal of the body is so thin that it affects not only comfort (sound insulation) but also safety. Some owners report how they straighten the wings after minor accidents without the help of equipment - just with their hands.

Uncomfortable interior

  • Renault Logan has small side mirrors as standard.
  • Owners complain about the presence of large blind spots and lack of normal rearward visibility.
  • The ventilation system is poorly thought out, which is why the windows fog up heavily in winter and in damp weather.
  • Windshield wiper blades quickly fail and squeak unpleasantly, and they are also located in such a way that the water that gets on the glass is only partially wiped away.
  • After driving on bad roads, the upper mount of the headlights cracks, and the front fog lights fall out due to vibration.

  • The finishing materials leave much to be desired even in comparison with classmates.
  • Sound insulation is a pain for owners. Many solve it themselves, in the garage.
  • Owners are annoyed by the imitation door handles and the inability to fold the rear seats - they are bolted on.
  • The seats are soft and uncomfortable without lumbar and lateral support. Fatigue from long trips in an uncomfortable seat does not even block the smooth running of the car.
  • The location of the buttons in the cabin is subject to a logic known only to the manufacturer. For example, you will have to look for the rear window lifters in the area of the passenger's feet.
  • The glove compartment is too small The torpedo is round and is not intended for storing some improvised items.
  • The protrusion in the trunk, numerous hinges, plugs and wires leave an imprint on the ability to transport goods: you have to be careful not to touch or scratch anything.

Yes, Logan is an inexpensive car, and owners are ready to endure freezing of the multimedia system, glitches of electronics and errors of the standard navigator.

But poor sound insulation (plus a noisy engine and original tires), inconvenient buttons and a “stool” seating position in the front seats can irritate even the most patient.

Short-lived steering rack

Experts who repair Logans on an ongoing basis claim that the really weak point of the model is the steering rack.

Often it asks for replacement already at 80 thousand km. Before that, owners change their tie rod ends twice on average.

Weak 8-valve engine

After restyling in 2014, the manufacturer abandoned the younger 1.4-liter 75-horsepower engine.

  • The remaining 1.6-liter options do not please with their dynamics: 82 hp. for 8-valve and 102 hp. for a 16-valve engine.
  • The 102-horsepower K4M is combined with a 4-speed automatic transmission, which has a bad effect on fuel consumption but improves performance.

Owners of the 8-valve version are still dissatisfied with the dynamics and complain that the engine is noisy, but “does not move.”

Although, for those who like a more nimble ride, the manufacturers have introduced the 113-horsepower H4MK into the lineup, which can also be found on the Renault Duster and Kaptur, Nissan Sentra and Juke.

Noisy gearbox with short gears

Logan's manual transmission crunches when reverse gear is engaged, and this is not a sign of a breakdown, but a design feature - the absence of an appropriate synchronizer.

The JH's five-speed transmission is quite reliable, but many owners won't get used to the short gears. But their purpose is to add dynamics to not very productive engines. But as a result, the driver constantly keeps his hand on the “handle” when accelerating, and starts moving every other time from second gear. With fifth gear engaged and at a speed of about 100-110 km/h, both the engine and gearbox howl, frustrating the owners.

Total

Renault Logan is a simple budget car, a real workhorse. Low interior comfort, poor noise insulation and thin metal are easily compensated by the low price, simplicity and reliability of the car's design, soft suspension and good cross-country ability.

They love and choose Renault Logan not for something, but in general - a simple, understandable and “unbreakable” car.

  • Find a full review of the Renault Logan model.

Today you can buy a used Logan from 2004-2006 at a price starting from 140,000 rubles. Moreover, it will not necessarily be a “junk” on wheels with a smoking engine and a rotten body - on the market you can easily find a quite decent copy in good external and technical condition. When purchasing a sedan second-hand, the first thing to look at is the body.

Weak points on the Renault Logan are the edge of the windshield, sills, wheel arches and the cut of the trunk lid under the rear window. The paint peels off most quickly from the bottom of the rear wheel arches where they meet the sills. This paint defect occurred even on fresh copies. The manufacturer took note of the low corrosion resistance of Logans in Russian conditions and corrected this deficiency, so cars younger than 2008 no longer suffer from this ailment. It should also be noted that body hardware is inexpensive. For example, the original hood and bumper are valued at 11,000, and dealers ask 5,000 rubles for the wing and headlight unit. By the way, non-original ones can be purchased at half the price.

True, the availability of a car has a second side to the coin. Owners of French sedans will have to put up with cheap finishing materials and mediocre ergonomics - the steering column is adjustable only in height, the horn button is located at the end of the steering column lever, and the gas tank cap is opened with a key. In addition, the driver's seat moves up and down only in expensive sedan versions. The initial configurations of the model are characterized by extremely sparse equipment. For example, the basic version of the car did not even have a stabilizer bar and power steering.

Renault Logan was initially equipped with two petrol fours with a volume of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, producing 75 and 87 hp, respectively. After restyling in 2010, Logan began to be equipped with a 16-valve version of the 1.6-liter engine, which began to produce 102 hp. The motors were installed on many models of the French concern, so they are well studied by servicemen. The engines are generally reliable, although they have their own inherent problems. The front camshaft and crankshaft seals begin to leak quite quickly. The parts cost pennies, but the work to replace them will cost 2,500 rubles. Every 60,000 km, the timing belt (from 4,500 rubles with work) must be updated, as well as the drive belt (2,500 rubles) and the water pump (from 2,000 rubles), which rarely last longer. The crankshaft position and idle speed sensors, which cost 2,500 rubles each, are prone to failure. Coils (from 1,500 rubles) and spark plugs often fail. Note that the attachments of French engines are very afraid of moisture, so it is recommended to wash the engine only at branded technical centers, which guarantee that after taking the water treatment, the car will leave the wash under its own power. And further. It is better to service and repair engines at specialized service stations, where there are special tools and mechanics familiar with Renault equipment. The fact is that the design of these engines is quite specific - for example, cylinder counting starts from the flywheel, and there are no marks on the crankshaft pulley and block for setting the valve timing.

Mechanical five-speed gearboxes will outlive the engine if the oil in them is changed at least once every 60,000-80,000 km. Although the manufacturer assures that it is filled for its entire service life. Over time, the gearbox lever rocker becomes loose. It can be treated by replacing the bushings by installing a repair kit for 2000 rubles. We must remember that the reverse gear is not equipped with synchronizers, so it should only be engaged when the car is completely stopped and the clutch pedal is depressed all the way. But with the automatic four-speed gearbox there are much more problems. Even with proper operation, it can withstand a maximum of 150,000 km, despite the fact that the box has been repeatedly modernized over the past ten years. The valve body (from 32,000 rubles) can fail before hundreds of thousands of kilometers. Periodically, you need to check the oil level in the automatic transmission and change it at least once every 60,000 km. Insufficient oil pressure in the box can cause the clutch pack to fail. The only consolation is that the automatic transmission is relatively inexpensive to repair. Its overhaul is estimated at 60,000–90,000 rubles.

A lot of flattering words have been said about the energy intensity of the Logan suspension. The chassis swallows small irregularities and potholes without noticing, and in deep holes it only slightly shakes the riders. True, abuse of the omnivorous nature of the suspension directly affects its durability - by the way, it is not particularly durable anyway. For example, stabilizer struts and bushings can withstand an average of 20,000 km, although they are inexpensive. At the 50th thousand mileage, the original shock absorbers (3,500 rubles each) and ball shock absorbers are usually returned. Wheel bearings (4,000 rubles each) and support bearings (1,800 rubles each) withstand even less. In the steering system, consumables are considered to be rod ends (1,900 rubles each). But in the rear suspension with a semi-independent beam, apart from the wear of silent blocks and shock absorbers, there is nothing special to break.

Also annoying are the frequently burned-out low beam, side and brake lights, poor interior ventilation and sound insulation. It is better to immediately replace the original windshield wiper blades, which after 5000–8000 km begin to smear dirt on the glass, with a part from another manufacturer.
