Chevrolet Orlando: dedicated to those with many children. Where is Chevrolet Orlando assembled Chevrolet Orlando new body test drive

In 2008, the Americans presented the first concept car of the Chevrolet Orlando. The car appeared on our market two years later. The “highlight” of this minivan is that no matter what configuration you buy it in, the car is a seven-seater. This car model was created on the basis of the Chevrolet Cruze. But to this day the question remains open: where are Chevrolet Orlando assembled for the domestic market? Before answering, I would like to mention that the path of the American concern was thorny and difficult. The concern experienced both ups and downs. The creator of this automobile corporation is motorsport fan William Durant.

Some time after its creation, this man was able to organize the world's largest automaker, General Motors. Today this company has plants for assembling its cars in almost every developed large country in the world. The Chevrolet Orlando model is assembled in four countries at once, including Russia. In the Russian Federation, the minivan is produced by the Avtotor enterprise, located in Kaliningrad. Only large-scale assembly is carried out here; the car itself is made in Korea. In addition, this car model is assembled in:

  • Vietnam
  • Venezuela
  • South Korea.

On the Russian market, buyers are offered this family car with a choice of gasoline and diesel power units. Engine volumes are 1.8 and 2.0 liters. The car is only front-wheel drive, and the engines are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed “robot” with manual shifting.

Distinctive features of the minivan

Every year the General Motors concern opens its enterprises in different countries, so it’s hard to say where the Chevrolet Orlando will be produced next. Compared to its predecessor, this car has become 75 millimeters longer. The car is quite roomy inside, and it is very easy to recognize it by its simple body shape, high roof and vertical rear door. The appearance of the “American” was created by a Korean designer, Shonga Kim. There is a third row of seats in the luggage compartment; when they are folded, the floor is perfectly flat.

The owner can also fold the second row, then the area inside will increase significantly. Engineers came up with a convenient scheme for transforming the interior. The exterior is made in the manner familiar to the manufacturer. Thanks to the transformation of the interior, it is possible to transport various cargo and a considerable number of passengers. The car has sixteen types of transformation. Not many cars in this class can boast of this. Initially, the manufacturer made this model of car specifically for the European market. After its release, the car became quite popular and the Americans decided to please fans and buyers from other countries of the world, including Russians.

Specifications

If we compare this minivan with other classic models, its dimensions can be called modest (4652mm ×1836mm ×1633mm). The wheelbase of the car is 2760 millimeters. Everyone knows that the quality of the vehicle will depend on where the Chevrolet Orlando is produced. Russian owners of this model cannot get enough of the space inside the car. Particularly pleasing is the volume of the luggage compartment. After all, with the second and third row of seats folded down, it is 1584 liters. And the total length of the cargo space increases to 2.6 meters.

With only the third row folded, the trunk volume is the same - 466 liters. Today, Russian buyers have access to the compact Chevrolet Orlando minivan with two powertrain options. This can be a car with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine producing 141 horsepower or a 2.0-liter diesel engine with 163 horsepower. Maybe in the near future our compatriots will have access to a 1.4 liter (140 hp) turbodiesel power plant. Orlando inherited the automatic transmission from the Chevrolet Cruze model. If you are interested in economical cars in terms of fuel consumption, then the Chevrolet Orlando with an automatic transmission and a diesel unit is suitable for you.

Options and prices

On the domestic market, our Kaliningrad company offers three versions of this car model:

The first version of the car will cost the buyer 842,000 rubles. The LT package, depending on the engine and transmission, will cost 888,000 (gasoline and manual) and 930,000 rubles (diesel and automatic). A minivan in the richest equipment with a diesel unit will cost 1,079,000 rubles, and with a gasoline unit - 991,000 rubles.

What will happen in 2019: expensive cars and disputes with the government

Due to the increase in VAT and the unclear future of state support programs for the car market, new cars will continue to rise in price in 2019. We found out how car companies will negotiate with the government and what new products they will bring.

However, this state of affairs only stimulated buyers to make decisions more quickly, and an additional argument was the planned increase in VAT from 18 to 20% in 2019. Leading auto companies told Autonews.ru what challenges the industry faces in 2019.

Figures: sales have been growing for 19 months in a row

Based on the results of sales of new cars in November 2018, the Russian car market showed an increase of 10% - thus, the market has continued to grow for 19 months in a row. According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB), 167,494 new cars were sold in Russia in November, and in total from January to November, automakers sold 1,625,351 cars - 13.7% more than last year.

According to AEB, December sales results should be comparable to November. And at the end of the whole year, it is expected that the market will reach the figure of 1.8 million sold passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, which will mean a 13 percent plus.

The most noticeable growth in 2018, according to data from January to November, was sales of Lada (324,797 units, +16%), Kia (209,503, +24%), Hyundai (163,194, +14%), VW (94,877, + 20%), Toyota (96,226, +15%), Skoda (73,275, +30%). Mitsubishi began to regain lost positions in Russia (39,859 units, +93%). Despite the growth, Subaru (7026 units, +33%) and Suzuki (5303, +26%) noticeably lagged behind the brand.

Sales increased at BMW (32,512 units, +19%), Mazda (28,043, +23%), Volvo (6,854, + 16%). Hyundai's premium sub-brand, Genesis, took off (1,626 units, 76%). Stable performance in Renault (128,965, +6%), Nissan (67,501, +8%), Ford (47,488, +6%), Mercedes-Benz (34,426, +2%), Lexus (21,831, +4%) and Land Rover (8,801, +9%).

Despite the positive figures, the overall volumes of the Russian market remain low. According to the Autostat agency, the market historically showed its maximum value in 2012 - then 2.8 million cars were sold; in 2013, sales decreased to 2.6 million. In 2014, the crisis came only towards the end of the year, so there was no dramatic drop in the market - Russians managed to buy 2.3 million cars at the “old” prices. But in 2015, sales collapsed to 1.5 million units. Negative dynamics continued in 2016, when sales dropped to a record low of 1.3 million vehicles. A revival in demand occurred only in 2017, when Russians bought 1.51 million new cars. Thus, the Russian automotive industry is still far from the original figures, as well as from the status of the first market in Europe in terms of sales, which was predicted for Russia in the pre-crisis years.

Representatives of auto companies surveyed by Autonews.ru believe that sales volumes in 2019 will be comparable to the results of 2018: according to their estimates, Russians will buy the same number of cars or a little less. Most expect a bad January and February, after which sales will pick up again. However, auto brands refuse to make official forecasts until the beginning of the new year.

“In 2019, the cars purchased in the pre-crisis year of 2014 will already be five years old - for Russians this is a kind of psychological mark at which they are ready to think about replacing the car,” Kia Marketing Director Valery Tarakanov noted in an interview with Autonews.ru.

Prices: cars have been rising in price all year

New cars in Russia after the 2014 crisis increased in price by an average of 66% by November 2018, according to Autostat. Over the 11 months of 2018, cars became more expensive on average by 12%. The agency's experts came to the conclusion that auto companies have now practically won back the fall of the ruble against world currencies. But they stipulate that this does not mean a price freeze.

Further increases in car prices will be driven by inflation and an increase in the VAT rate from the beginning of 2019 - from 18% to 20%. Representatives of auto companies, in conversations with an Autonews.ru correspondent, also do not hide that the increase in VAT will directly affect the cost of cars, and from the very beginning of 2019 - this, for example, was confirmed by Renault, AvtoVAZ and Kia.

Discounts, bonuses and new prices: when is the best time to buy a car?

“As we head into the last quarter of the year, the Russian automobile market continued to demonstrate strong growth. However, this welcome development comes as no surprise given the tailwind in the sails of the entire retail sector as it counts down to the VAT change. There has been growing concern among market participants regarding the sustainability of retail demand since January 2019,” explained Jörg Schreiber, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.

At the same time, automakers hope that the ruble exchange rate will not change much against foreign currencies, which will avoid price surges.

State support programs: they gave half as much

In 2018, half as much money was allocated for state support programs for the car market, popular among Russians, compared to 2017 - 34.4 billion rubles. instead of the previous 62.3 billion rubles. At the same time, only 7.5 billion rubles were spent on targeted programs aimed specifically at motorists. We are talking about programs such as “First Car” and “Family Car”, which apply to cars costing up to 1.5 million rubles.

The rest of the money went to more specific programs like “Own Business” and “Russian Tractor”. 1.295 billion was spent on measures to develop and produce vehicles with remote and autonomous control, 1.5 billion was spent on stimulating the acquisition of ground-based electric transport, and 0.5 billion was spent on measures to stimulate production in the Far East (we are talking about compensation for transportation costs to auto companies). billion rubles, for the purchase of gas engine equipment - 2.5 billion rubles.

Thus, the government, as promised, continues to systematically reduce the volume of state support for the industry. For comparison: in 2014, only 10 billion rubles. went to recycling and trade-in programs. In 2015, 43 billion rubles were allocated to support the automotive industry, of which 30% was also spent on recycling and trade-in. In 2016, spending on state support for the automotive industry reached 50 billion rubles, half of which was also spent on similar targeted programs.

As for 2019, the situation with state support remains. Thus, in the middle of the year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that the “First Car” and “Family Car” programs were extended until 2020 inclusive. They should allow you to buy new cars at a 10-25% discount. However, automakers claim that they have still not received any confirmation about the extension of the programs - the Ministry of Industry and Trade for a month was unable to clarify the situation and respond to Autonews.ru’s request.

Meanwhile, at a recent meeting with automakers, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said that the volume of state support for the domestic automotive industry is five times higher than the budget revenues from this industry.

“Now this amounts to 9 rubles per 1 ruble of income to the budget system from the automobile industry. This is with the recycling fee, and without the recycling fee - 5 rubles of state support,” he said.

Kozak explained that these figures should make one think about the conditions under which state support measures should be provided to the auto industry, adding that the vast majority of business sectors do not receive any support from the state at all.

Disputes with the government: car companies are unhappy

In 2018, disputes between auto companies and the government over the terms of further work in the market intensified. The reason was the expiring terms of the agreement on industrial assembly, which gave auto companies that invested in the localization of production a tangible set of benefits, including tax ones. This situation primarily means that manufacturers, in conditions of uncertainty, can postpone the launch of new models, which, by the way, was threatened by Renault. In addition, it is more difficult for companies to predict their pricing policy. At the moment, the government, represented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Energy, has still not been able to develop a unified strategy.

Until recently, departments offered different tools to replace the expiring decree on industrial assembly No. 166. Thus, the Ministry of Industry and Trade actively lobbied for the signing of individual special investment contracts (SPICs) between the government and auto companies. The document provides for a certain set of benefits, which is determined separately with each signatory depending on the size of investments, including in R&D and export development. This tool has been repeatedly criticized by auto company executives for its lack of transparency and too stringent requirements for further investment.

The Ministry of Energy, in turn, opposed it for a long time and insisted that only those who produce high-tech products, which do not include cars, will be able to work under SPICs. The FAS also joined the negotiations with the position that companies should not form alliances and consortia, that is, they should not unite to sign SPICs. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade began to promote precisely this idea of combining brands to obtain a synergistic effect many years ago.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak had to intervene in the conflict situation, who created a special working group, invited representatives of all auto companies to it and also expressed a number of his own ideas. But this did not calm the situation - auto brands complained about newcomers, including Chinese companies that from scratch could count on government support, and about their reluctance to invest too much in R&D and organizing exports.

Currently, according to Autonews.ru sources taking part in the negotiations, the advantage is on the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and a number of auto companies are already preparing to sign SPICs in the new year. And this means new investments, projects and models, the emergence of which can revive the Russian car market.

New models: there will be many premieres in 2019

Despite the careful forecasts from automakers, most of them are preparing many new products for Russia. For example, Volvo Autonews.ru said that they would bring a new Volvo S60 and Volvo V60 Cross Country. Suzuki will launch the updated Vitara SUV and the new Jimny compact SUV.

Next year Skoda will bring the updated Superb and the Karoq crossover to Russia, Volkswagen will begin Russian sales of the Arteon liftback, as well as new modifications of the Polo and Tiguan in 2019. AvtoVAZ will roll out Lada Vesta Sport, Granta Cross and promises several more new products.

The Chevrolet Orlando test took place in sunny Valencia, Spain. But before that, a large group of Russian journalists had to spend many hours in Paris. And we didn’t enjoy the beauty of the Champs Elysees there. We slept in an abandoned train at the Gare du Nord, warmed ourselves with our black brothers on a cold night near special thermal cabinets, and lay for several hours on the floor at Charles de Gaulle airport. In general, in Paris, instead of the 40 minutes allotted according to the program, we spent almost two days between connections of two flights - due to snowfall, all airports in the city were closed, trains ran intermittently, and it was impossible to catch a taxi. In addition, all the hotels in Paris were filled to capacity with unhappy tourists. Catastrophe! And this is because of some snow there...

But stop feeling sorry for yourself. Let us best remember... the recent message of Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev to the Federal Assembly. Are you surprised by this turn? But remember that in this message the president expressed the idea of the need to encourage Russian families to have a third child. They say that for the second they will give money, and for the third they will begin to allocate land plots. But has anyone thought about what kind of car a law-abiding Russian who follows all the advice of the country’s leadership will transport his children in?

But people who are planning to have a third child simply need to have a large car, preferably with three rows of seats. Recently, several new models have been shown that are suitable for large families: Mazda5,

The cars are not bad, no doubt about it. But you can't call them cheap. Therefore, the display of one of the most affordable seven-seater cars on the Russian market aroused great interest.

Russian prices for Orlando have not yet been announced. They will largely depend on the location of assembly - Chevrolet management is seriously considering organizing Orlando production in Russia (the Americans have three options at once: a plant in St. Petersburg, where the Opel Astra and Chevrolet Cruze are currently assembled, the GM-AvtoVAZ joint venture and the assembly enterprise "Avtotor" in Kaliningrad). But it is already known that the price of the car will be exactly between the Cruze sedan and the Captiva SUV. That is, it should be about 700,000 rubles. for a model in a basic, but fairly decent configuration. For a seven-seater car, not so much. What will you have to sacrifice? What will we get for this money? Let's try to figure it out.

The Orlando is based on the platform from the Cruze, but the single-box is still larger than a sedan. The increase in length is about 12 cm, but at the same time the car looks much larger in appearance than the Cruze. And in general, there is something unusual in the design of the Orlando for a single-volume car. “Many of the European MPVs are very functional single-box vehicles. But Orlando is a little different. It has a two-volume body that combines features of conventional MPVs and SUVs, allowing the Orlando to go beyond existing body classifications,” says Tewan Kim, vice president of design at GM DAT. And he’s absolutely right - from a distance, the Chevrolet Orlando really looks like a crossover, although the ground clearance is the same as that of the Cruze. And this move can work, especially if the car is “shod” with 18-inch wheels, which come as an option (16- or 17-inch in the base). Although personally I would refuse 18-inch wheels. They look, of course, impressive, but they do not add smoothness to the ride. In this case, the car, which claims to be a family car, turns out to be very tough and accurately informs about the passage of joints and small holes, even on smooth Spanish roads.

The Orlando is softer with 16-inch wheels, so that's what I'd choose. With them, smoothness becomes a little better (although there are complaints about comfort here too), and handling does not suffer too much. True, we will not make a verdict on comfort in advance. After all, the chassis characteristics will probably be revised for our market.

The average fuel consumption of a 1.8-liter gasoline unit in the combined cycle is 7.3 liters per 100 km. The maximum speed of Orlando 1.8 is 185 km/h, acceleration time 0-100 km/h takes 11.6 seconds. Diesel consumes 6.0 liters for every 100 km. The maximum speed of the 163-horsepower car is 195 km/h, acceleration time 0-100 km/h takes 10 seconds

But the 1.8-liter gasoline engine will remain the same: 141 hp, 176 N m. Only instead of Euro-5 we will have Euro-4, but this will not change the nature of the power unit. We know this - this unit is installed on Cruze assembled in St. Petersburg. Average motor. It seems to be enough for a confident ride, but at the same time there is a feeling of some kind of understatement. It’s as if the engine has an “emergency” reserve of ten horsepower. As a result, for a relatively dynamic ride, the engine has to be revved up to 4000 “rpm” or more, but even after this “explosion” does not occur. Although the sound in the cabin is as if we are “burning for all the money.”

2.0-liter diesel engine with 163 hp. and a torque of 360 Nm is good (there is also an option with 130 hp and 315 Nm). Compared to the 1.8-liter gasoline engine, it looks simply head and shoulders better. Or maybe two. There is already a reserve of power here, the engine allows you to accelerate sharply if necessary, and in addition, the diesel engine in the mid-speed zone operates... quieter than a gasoline engine. It is also more economical and can be equipped with a good six-speed automatic transmission. The latter works smoothly and without any delays (it’s not clear why, but the petrol Orlando has only a manual transmission, but an automatic transmission will probably appear in Russia - after all, the Cruze 1.8 is equipped with an automatic transmission). And now the most important thing. Chevrolet representatives announced that the 2.0-liter diesel engine will also be sold in Russia! This is very good news - I would choose it, especially since there are not so many diesel engines offered in the segment of mid-size seven-seat single-volume diesels.

But we somehow forgot about the salon. But there is something very interesting there. No, we are not talking about the third row of seats, which can be folded with one movement of the hand (you can fold the second one, also without effort - then you get a large and flat area where you can sleep if you wish). And not even the fact that thanks to adjusting the angle of the backrest of the second row, not the smallest men can sit relatively tolerably in the third.

The main feature of the cabin is the “head” of the audio system - it can... recline. As a result, we have excellent capacity for small items. You simply can’t think of a better place to store your stash, especially if your wife doesn’t know that the radio has a “double bottom.”

As for everything else, Orlando did not disappoint. I used to think that the interior of this car would exactly copy the Cruze. But Chevrolet decided not to skimp on the designers’ work. Of course, everything was done in approximately the same style, but the insides of the Orlando turned out to be more “serious”. We could not find any problems with ergonomics. The only thing is that the seats on the “base” car have insufficient lateral support, although the optional leather-trimmed seats are quite good. But otherwise everything is as it should be. The Koreans (and Orlando was developed in Korea) have learned to create not the most memorable, but very comfortable interiors.

So, what conclusion can be drawn after testing the new Chevrolet Orlando? This is a good car, which has a very interesting appearance and decent equipment (already in the base there will be almost everything that drivers require from a “decent” foreign car, including an air conditioner, six pillows, music, and so on). Of course, she has shortcomings. Some competitors have better ride quality and noise insulation, and they have more interesting engines. However, let's not forget about the price. Orlando should become noticeably cheaper than its rivals (we remind you that we are targeting RUB 700,000 for a car with a 141-horsepower engine). And this factor alone guarantees his success in Russia. After all, car buyers who have three or more children are simply forced to count money. Therefore, let's take a closer look at our competitors.

COMPETITORS
Ford Grand C-MAX

The new generation of Ford Grand C-MAX is the latest innovation in the segment of seven-seat mid-size single-volume cars (only the Grand C-MAX will be sold in Russia - they decided not to supply the five-seat C-MAX to us). The simplest Grand C-MAX will cost in Russia from 799,000 rubles. For this money, a car with a manual transmission and a 1.6 liter (125 hp) petrol engine will be offered. A car with a 150-horsepower 1.6-liter unit costs 850,100 rubles. The basic equipment of the model is quite decent: air conditioning, music, power accessories, six airbags, anti-skid system, and so on.

It’s nice that Ford will also sell the diesel Grand C-MAX here, and such a car will be equipped only with an automatic transmission (gasoline versions have only a manual transmission). Ford Grand C-MAX with a 2.0-liter diesel engine (140 hp) and PowerShift automatic transmission will cost RUB 934,100.

Mazda5 is another new product this year. This car is sold in Russia only with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine (144 hp) and only paired with an automatic transmission. There are two configurations: Touring for 930,000 rubles. or Sport for RUB 1,009,000. Moreover, the Mazda5 can be equipped with such an option as an electric side door opening mechanism.

Toyota Verso

The new Chevrolet Orlando 2018 model year will be only the second generation of this car. For several years now, its predecessor has been successfully traveling along our roads and pleasing people with large families with its spaciousness. The previous generation of the car showed good driving performance, and was also quite comfortable and convenient.

The new Chevrolet Orlando 2018 body has a completely different look. Almost every detail has changed. Yes, you can still see the old design, but now it has become much more stylish, even somewhat aggressive, not like many family minivans.

The front part is also decorated with a rather large radiator grille, which is divided into two halves. It is on this part that the company’s logo is located. The front lights, which have become sharper, have received LED filling, and are also now located closer to the center of the bumper.

The small air intake at the bottom has been redesigned, giving it a strictly rectangular shape, and it ends with somewhat rounded elements, inside of which a thin strip of fog lights was placed.

Along with all this, a pronounced relief appeared at the front part. The body either sinks or rises outward, taking on various shapes.

On the side, the wheel arches began to protrude even more from the main part of the body, turning from semicircles into almost squares. If previously the doors themselves were slightly convex, now they are so straight that you can apply a level. The mirrors have grown somewhat and also acquired turn signal repeaters. The size of the glass has decreased slightly, but the pseudo-pillars have become wider. The wheels resemble those of a sports car more than those of an ordinary everyday family car.

At the rear, the new model still has a steep bumper, but with minor changes. The lights have become rectangular and no longer fit onto the tailgate at all. The bumper itself dropped a little, which is why the car became somewhat more aggressive. If previously the exhaust pipes were hidden under the bottom, now they are located directly in the bumper.

In general, the car has significantly improved its appearance and turned from an ordinary inconspicuous car into a stylish and presentable car.

Salon

The restyling of Orlando 2018 did not pass by the interior equipment either. The photo shows that here too the car has gained noticeable weight. Yes, he is not replete with rich materials, because he does not need it. The decoration here uses fabric and plastic; sometimes you can see chrome edging and leather inserts.

The center console is strongly extended upward, and at the very top there is a small multimedia display for controlling all kinds of functionality of the model, which is surrounded by many functions and wide air vents. The gearbox knob was placed a little lower to free up as much space as possible for the armrest, which easily rises and turns into another glove compartment.

The steering wheel looks simple. On it you can see several buttons that are responsible for the telephone and audio system. But behind it they placed a rather modern and stylish instrument panel. To the right and left are the large-sized speedometer and tachometer, which are beautifully illuminated in blue. In the center you can see the on-board computer, and a little higher - additional instruments displaying the amount of fuel and other important indicators.

Much has been done here to improve passenger comfort. The front row has many settings and adjustments, as well as heating even in the basic version. The finishing materials are pleasant and non-slippery, which is very important in the absence of lateral support. In total, the car is designed for seven passengers.

The luggage compartment is small - only 90 liters, but you can always fold the two rear rows, and any of the seats can be lowered independently of the others. Thus, you can get up to one and a half thousand liters of free space.

Specifications

The new Chevrolet Orlando will be equipped with one of two possible engines, having the following characteristics: 1.8 liters, with a power of 141 horsepower, or 2 liters, developing 163 horsepower. Both engines can be had with a manual transmission with six modes, or with an automatic transmission with five. Fuel consumption will be 5.7 and 6 liters, respectively.

It’s worth noting right away that such engines are not at all sufficient to easily accelerate this car. After all, its weight is not so small. Therefore, some problems may arise on the track. In the city, you will be a little disappointed by the very stiff suspension with little travel, which responds perfectly to all the imperfections of our roads. Not everyone will like the poor sound insulation, because of which the roar of the engine trying to pull out this giant will be heard throughout the cabin.

Options and prices

Chevrolet will provide three trim levels for its new product. Basic – LS, will receive an anti-lock braking system, an emergency braking system, several more systems to improve braking and control, various safety systems in the form of seat belts and airbags, several parking sensors, as well as electric power steering. The price of this version is 1.26 million rubles.

The next modification is LT. It additionally includes stabilization and stability systems, several more security systems and fog lights. For this version you will need to pay 1.3 million rubles.

The latest is the top-of-the-line LTZ trim., includes improved cruise control, rain and light sensors, automatic opening and closing of side mirrors, as well as a full range of driving assistance and safety systems. This pleasure costs 1.41 million rubles.

Release date in Russia

They plan to start sales in Russia in the first months of the new year. Then it will be possible to test drive the model in any of the official showrooms.

Competitors

The car has two main competitors - Opel Zafira and Toyota Verso. If the design of the first one does not reach the level of Orlando, then the second one will even surpass it. But in terms of equipment there is practically no difference. The only difference is that competitors will have to pay a little more to get approximately the same set of functions. For example, the Toyota engine is a little weaker, but it is able to pull the car a little faster, spending even less fuel both in the city and on the highway. In Opel, the situation with dynamics is practically no different from Chevrolet. So, you will have to choose based on personal preferences or reviews from acquaintances or friends.

Orlando has been traveling along our roads for more than two years, delighting many car enthusiasts with its driving performance, but today we will talk about the 2019 Chevrolet Orlando, which received a new body. The car somehow struck a chord with me and I decided to review its capabilities and characteristics.

Most recently, a deep restyling was carried out, which made it possible to present a family minivan in a completely new design. The start of sales of the Chevrolet Orlando 2019 2020 in Russia has already begun.

The exterior lifts the mood

The 2019 Chevrolet Orlando can easily be called a unique example of the family car segment.

The bright exterior, perfectly complemented by huge diamond-shaped headlights, a large U-shaped radiator grille with wide transverse stripes, as well as a massive front bumper, creates the impression of a solid, powerful and presentable car.

The 17-inch light-alloy cast wheels, new turn indicators on the side mirrors, and more complex shapes of the wheel arches look great. The rapidity and dynamism of the car's profile is given by the high window sill line that goes sharply upward, which is duplicated by the clear edges of the stampings located on both sides of the Chevrolet.

At the back in the photo of the updated 2019 Chevrolet Orlando you can see large corner lights “cut” into two-thirds by the trunk, as well as a strongly protruding massive bumper. Anyone who already owns a minivan will agree that the updates turned out to be quite good. The car has become much more attractive.

Freedom in the interior

The seven-seater interior of the car can easily accommodate not only seven passengers, but also small luggage. The luggage compartment itself takes up only 89 liters, however, if you fold the second and third row seats, this space can easily be increased to almost 1500 liters. Moreover, the seats can be folded individually or all together.

The ergonomics of the dashboard have changed. Now the devices are located more compactly and conveniently. Audio system control buttons and keys are located on the steering wheel. The three-spoke steering wheel itself has acquired a sporty shape and a comfortable grip.

The shape of the measuring instruments has changed slightly. More irregular lines and curves appeared in it. The ice blue interior lighting looks great. As for the equipment of the Chevrolet Orlando 2019 2020, the main attention was paid to safety. For this purpose, the car was equipped with modern systems, as well as side, front and curtain airbags. Available:

  • ABS system;
  • emergency braking system;
  • hydraulic braking support system;
  • adjustable steering column;
  • theft protection;
  • electric power steering.

Orlando has contained all the best and newest models, like , in itself.

Disadvantages and advantages of Orlando

Many owners of the new Chevrolet Orlando 2019 2020 are unanimous in the opinion that the absolute advantages of the car are:

  1. Roomy and spacious interior.
  2. Possibility to accommodate a large group of 7 people.
  3. A relatively affordable price for many, which is consistent with the quality.
  4. Excellent economy.
  5. High dynamics, good handling, road stability.

Still, it was not without its shortcomings. Among them we can highlight:

  1. Low level of sound insulation.
  2. Sufficiently stiff suspension.
  3. Not a very fast engine.
Competitors are not inferior

In the family car segment we can also highlight Opel Zafiru and Toyota Verso. The first competitor of the 2019 Chevrolet Orlando has an attractive, modern design, which is perfectly complemented by large slanted headlights, fog lights in the form of petals, and a beautiful, stylish radiator grille.

The car's equipment is modern. There are ABS systems, directional stability, and airbags. The cabin is quite spacious. There are large windows for control options on the dashboard. The center console pleases with its ergonomics, as well as the large screen of the on-board computer.

Toyota Verso looks extravagant, original and unusual. The front part resembles a squinting predatory fish. This image is created by sweeping triangular headlights, a V-shaped radiator grille with a fairly sharp angle, as well as a huge “mouth” of the air intake. Radical changes have taken place in the Toyota interior. The interior lighting color has changed. Now it has turned from orange to icy white. The exterior is perfectly complemented by black decorative inserts framing the color touch screen.

Modern equipment includes security systems, belts with pretensioners, a panoramic sunroof, climate control, electric mirrors, and a navigation system. I will give the technical indicators of both competitors in the table below.

Automobile Engine, l/hp Consumption, l/100 km Acceleration, s Transmission price, rub.
Opel Zafira 2,0/170 7,6 11,5-12,9 5 manual transmission From 722,000 to 850,000
