Mitsubishi ASX: ground clearance, exterior and interior of the car. Mitsubishi ASX: ground clearance and dimensions Mitsubishi asx technical specifications ground clearance

The small Mitsubishi ASX crossover was introduced to the European market in 2010 at the Geneva exhibition. Since then, the model has undergone minor external changes. However, the general profile, similar to the Lancer X (the car was developed on its basis), has been preserved. At the same time, the older brother Outlander was completely transformed.

For sales in the Russian segment, the car is assembled at factories in Japan. It is this feature that ensures excellent quality and safety. If we talk about technical characteristics, then for Russia the model comes in three variations of a gasoline engine: 1.6; 1.8; 2 liters. On the European market you can find a diesel engine.

The driver should be very pleased 20 cm clearance between the body and the road. The declared ground clearance of the Mitsubishi ACX is 195 mm. Both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive modifications are produced. It is worth noting that all-wheel drive is available only in the maximum engine configuration.

Externally, the car is very similar to another model of the company - Lancer X, especially when viewed from the front. The car's developers took a lot of ideas and characteristic features from the sedan. The first thing that immediately becomes noticeable is the large trapezoid-shaped radiator grille.

Attention! A restyled version was recently released, adding daytime LED lights.

All Mitsubishi parameters

Dimensions of Mitsubishi ACX:

  • Body length - 4 m 29.5 cm;
  • Width - 1 m 77 cm;
  • Car height - 1 m 61.5 cm (including roof rails 1 m 62.5 cm);
  • Body weight - 1 t 870 kg;
  • The distance between the two axles is 2 m 67 cm;
  • Mitsubishi ACX trunk size is 384 liters (+ full size spare);
  • The tank holds 63 liters in the front-wheel drive version and 60 liters in the all-wheel drive version;
  • Tires for Mitsubishi ACX size - 215/65 R16, 215/60 R17 or 225/55 R18
  • Mitsubishi ACX wheel size - .5JX16, 6.5JX17 or 7.0JX18;
  • Ground clearance of Mitsubishi ASX is 195 mm.

Mitsubishi ASX built on the basis of McFerson independent suspension at the front and a multi-link system with stabilizer transverse mechanisms. The car uses ventilated disc brakes on both wheels. Also in some trim levels, emergency braking mechanisms and other additions are available.

Checking the declared characteristics

Such information will be useful to people who are choosing a Mitsubishi ACX for themselves. For some, the issue of clearance is very important; a small clearance cannot always ensure the proper level of operation. The documentation for the ACX states a figure of 195 mm. However, detailed and accurate information is not available anywhere.

All measurements will be taken using a regular tape measure. First, it is worth specifying the characteristics of the model being tested. A 1.6 liter engine with manual transmission is installed, front-wheel drive. The car is equipped with Falcen winter tires. Wheels from the factory are 16 inches. The trunk contains a spare tire and a standard set of tools. There were no changes or modifications to the body. In fact, this is a Mitsubishi ACX in the basic configuration. The measured tire pressure is 2.2 atmospheres. Dimensions are made on a level concrete road.

The measurements were carried out in an unusual way. The master used a tape measure, measuring while lying on his side. This may lead to minor errors. A measurement in the front showed a ground clearance of 200 mm.

Next, let's move to the rear of the Mitsubishi ACX, where the exhaust pipe is located. It doesn't stick out as much as it might seem at first glance. We measure the distance under the pipe and get the 195 mm promised by the manufacturer. The exhaust diameter was measured at the bends where the “ear” was fixed. Its diameter is 53 mm, and then the pipe gradually increases to 60 mm. The size of the exhaust projection relative to the rest of the body is approximately 15 millimeters.

One of the most painful places on most cars is the sills and corrugations. They are the ones who often catch high speed bumps. To eliminate problems, measurements were taken under the thresholds of the driver's seat. There was plenty of room for various maneuvers. The ground clearance of the Mitsubishi ASX fully corresponds to the stated characteristics. As a result, it turns out that the ground clearance throughout the body is even greater than agreed upon. The only exception is a small protrusion from the pipe. However, it does not fall below the stated 195 mm.

The Japanese crossover Mitsubishi ASX is one of the most popular SUVs among Russian car enthusiasts. The new Mitsubishi ACX appeared in Russia in mid-summer 2010, and since then, year after year, it has only increased the army of its adherents. In our review, we will look at the technical characteristics of the updated Mitsubishi ACX crossover of the 2013 model, presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. We will evaluate the body paint colors, tires and wheels, sit down in the cabin, look into the trunk, consider possible configurations, their level of content and prices, and of course we will conduct a test drive on and off the asphalt. Traditionally, we will be helped by video and photo materials, analysis of owner reviews and comments from auto journalists.

How does a crossover with an upgraded suspension handle, what is the real fuel consumption, where is the best place to carry out maintenance on the Mitsubishi ASX and buy accessories for it, or maybe the car has weak points? There are a lot of questions, we will try to answer them all.

When creating the compact ACX crossover, Japanese specialists followed a simple and, in our opinion, the right path. The larger Mitsubishi Outlander XL of the second generation was taken as the basis, which had a lower and more sloping roof, the front overhang was reduced by 95 mm and the rear was cut by 250 mm. Through this reduction, the compact ASX was obtained, while the dimensions of the wheelbase of the platform donor were preserved. The brainchild of Japanese engineers, Mitsubishi ASX subsequently made it possible to create clones in the form of a French couple - and the Peugeot 4008.

  • We indicate the external dimensions dimensions Mitsubishi ASX: 4295 mm long, 1770 mm wide, 1625 mm high, 2670 mm wheelbase, 195 mm ground clearance ( clearance).

Mitsubishi Outlander XL - with a body length of 4640 mm, a height of 1680 mm and a ground clearance of 215 mm. The reduction in size entailed a reduction in curb weight by more than 200 kg; as a result, depending on the version, the weight of the compact ACX ranges from 1300 kg to 1455 kg.

  • Tires 215/65R16 or 215/60R17 are installed, steel or light alloy disks 16 size and 17 radius made of light alloy. As a tuning option, it is possible to install 215/55R18 tires on R18 alloy wheels.
  • There is a wide choice of body colors available colors enamels: white, white mother-of-pearl, black mother-of-pearl and metallics - silver, dark blue, turquoise, red and gray.

The body design of the compact crossover with three diamonds on the lining of the huge trapezoidal false radiator grille is designed in the style of the Outlander XL and the Lancer X sedan.

The appearance of the updated ASX is practically indistinguishable from the pre-restyling models of the car; the designers only slightly adjusted the radiator grille, front and rear bumpers. Otherwise, the appearance of the Japanese has not changed, the strict lines of the wedge-shaped body, the raised window sill line, large doorways, the roof sloping towards the stern, the lean rear part, moderate stampings of the wheel arches, neat rear and front bumpers, strict lighting technology (rear with LED filling). And an obligatory attribute of a crossover is the plastic protection of the lower part of the car’s body made of black plastic, capable of withstanding the blows of stones and sand flying from under the wheels.

The Mitsu ACX body is made with extensive use of high-strength steel and is seriously protected by an anti-corrosion and anti-gravel coating underneath. The front wings are plastic, despite the chopped shapes, the drag coefficient is only 0.32 Cx. For harsh Russian operating conditions, all Mitsubishi ASX are equipped with batteries with a larger capacity, antifreeze capable of withstanding temperatures below -40 degrees, a reconfigured engine control unit (cold start) and heated front seats.

The interior of the Japanese crossover Mitsubishi ACX is qualitatively assembled from materials that are pleasant to the touch (soft plastic, textured fabric upholstery, leather trim on the seats is possible). It is convenient to get into the car in the front and rear seats. Let's start the review of the interior, of course, from the driver's seat. The steering wheel is small in size and fits nicely in the hands, the steering column is adjustable in four directions, there are informative instruments in two deep wells, between them there is an on-board computer screen with a color information display. A mechanically adjustable seat (electric drive is an option) provides a high and comfortable seating position, but excessively dense padding causes fatigue in the lumbar region during long driving.

The front panel and center console have pleasant, soft contours. Depending on the equipment level of the Mitsubishi ACX, the console contains a radio (radio CD MP3 AUX 4 or 6 speakers) or advanced music Rockford Fostgate (subwoofer, 8 speakers), you can order a multimedia complex with a touch screen (navigator, CD DVD USB, Bluetooth, camera rear view). There is air conditioning or climate control, an air duct to the feet of the rear passengers.

In the second row, thanks to the large wheelbase, three passengers can fit, but sitting is somewhat uncomfortable due to the vertical seating position and low ceiling, and the miniature side windows cause a feeling of constraint.
The trunk of the Mitsu ACX in traveling condition holds 415 liters of cargo, there is a full-fledged spare tire in the underground; by folding the second row, we get an almost flat area with 1219 liters of volume. The large fifth door provides a large rectangular opening, but the loading height is high.

Specifications Mitsubishi ACX 2012-2013: the car in Russia is offered with three gasoline engines.

  • 1.6-liter (117 hp) with 5 manual transmission and front-wheel drive 2 WD, the engine accelerates the car to 100 mph in 11.4 seconds, top speed 183 mph, fuel consumption from 5 liters on the highway to 7.8 liters in the city. Real fuel consumption is 6.5-7.5 liters on the highway, 10-11 liters in city traffic jams.
  • 1.8-liter engine (140 hp), automatic transmission - CVT, with front-wheel drive (2 WD) provides acceleration to hundreds in 13.1 seconds, maximum speed of about 186 mph, rated fuel consumption from 6.4 liters outside the city and 9.8 liters in the city, in real operating conditions (owner reviews) will range from 7.5-8.5 liters on the highway to 11-12 liters in the city (in dense traffic jams up to 14 liters).
  • 2.0-liter engine (150 hp), automatic transmission - CVT, switchable all-wheel drive (Multi-Select 4WD all-wheel drive transmission) with three modes (2WD - automatically connected all-wheel drive, 4WD - constant torque distribution among the axles and Lock- fast operation mode of the electromagnetic clutch, but alas, not blocking). The engine, variator and all-wheel drive accelerate the crossover to 100 mph in 11.9 seconds with a top speed of 188 mph (owners boast that they accelerated to more than 200 mph). Owners cannot achieve the fuel efficiency figures declared by the manufacturer from 6.8 liters on a suburban highway to 10.5 liters in the city; the engine actually consumes from 8-9 liters on the highway and 12-12.5 liters in the city.

The suspension is completely independent with anti-roll bars, MacPherson struts at the front, multi-link architecture at the rear, electric power steering is used, disc brakes are already in the initial configuration (1.6 5 manual transmission) with ABS EBD Brake Assist Brake override system, in more advanced versions with 1.8 and 2.0 liter engines add ASTC (stability control with traction control) and Hill Start Assist.

Test Drive Mitsubishi ACX 2013: the owners of the first cars complained about problems and inadequate behavior of the crossover in corners (the rear axle could skid even at low speed, the suspension was loose). Mitsubishi has listened to the claims of car owners, and since June 2011 the car has been produced with a modernized suspension. Other front stabilizer struts and stiffer rear shock absorbers are installed, and the operating characteristics of the electric power steering and stabilization system have also been changed.
As a result, the operation of the car has become safer; on hard road surfaces the suspension is assembled, but excessively stiff, even on small uneven surfaces it shakes in the cabin; large holes and potholes are strongly felt by passengers and the driver. Changes in the suspension have a positive effect on handling, the car is stable and obedient, but... I don’t want to drive fast, the chassis is very loud and does not have any energy consumption, the sound and noise insulation of the interior is weak.
The 2012-2013 Mitsubishi ACX is poorly suited for serious off-road use, even the version with an all-wheel drive transmission. But on slippery or snowy roads, connecting the rear wheels significantly adds confidence to the owner.
The Japanese ACX crossover, although it looks like a crossover, in practice, in our opinion, is a five-door hatchback with increased ground clearance and the ability to order all-wheel drive, but the suspension is clearly not conducive to driving on roads with poor surfaces.

Where is it collected? Mitsubishi ASX: the car will be assembled for the Russian market in Kaluga, but for now the crossover is rolling off the assembly line in Japan and the USA.
What is the price: the cost in Russia of the 2012-2013 ASKh covers a very wide price range. For just 699 thousand rubles you can buy the initial ASX Inform package (1.6 117 hp 5 manual transmission), and sell the maximum version ASX Exclusive 2.0 150 hp CVT 4WD (leather interior, electric driver's seat, panoramic roof, navigation, xenon, climate -control) is carried out almost twice as expensive - from 1,249 thousand rubles.
The best option to buy a new Mitsubishi ACX is a car dealership that has the status of an official dealer. It is also better to buy spare parts and carry out routine repairs from a dealer, for a simple reason - the conditions for maintaining the warranty. However, in some cases, spare parts, accessories (mats, covers, etc.), minor repairs and tuning of Mitsubishi ACX are cheaper to order online and carry out at a specialized service station.

Thus, under the hood of a front-wheel drive crossover there can be either a 1.6-liter 117-horsepower engine with a manual transmission (the most affordable car configuration) or a 1.8-liter engine with a power of 140 hp. with stepless variator. The most powerful modification of the car, equipped with a 2.0-liter 150-horsepower engine and all-wheel drive, is also equipped with a CVT. The ASX uses fundamentally new front optics with xenon lamps, which provide the maximum illumination angle of 160 degrees to date and have no analogues in the world. In the interior of a new car, the dashboard immediately attracts attention. The seven-inch display of the navigator, which displays all the basic information and broadcasts the image from the rear view camera, has a very pleasant, soft backlight. The seats in the car are wide, the space between them is large. The roof of the cabin is transparent, panoramic, and can be closed with an electrically operated curtain. The desired temperature in the cabin is ensured by climate control with intuitive controls and the Hands Free Bluetooth function. The steering column of the car is adjustable not only for tilt, but also for reach. This is the first car of this brand on the Russian market to offer this. The trunk volume of the Mitsubishi ASX is impressive - 415 liters. And this despite the fact that it contains a subwoofer and a full-size spare wheel, specially supplied in the version of the car “for Russian roads”. Active and passive safety systems are available in quantities sufficient for a car of a higher price class. There are even such wonders as an emergency braking assist system and a system that helps the driver move away on a steep hill. Braking is equipped to the highest standard - ABS, EBD (electronic brake force distribution) and a regenerative braking system. There is also a control system (MATC), which operates according to a company-patented algorithm.

Mitsubishi ASX can be called a real veteran. Worldwide sales of the first original generation started back in 2010 and continue to this day. Since then, the model has been updated several times. The latest, already third, restyling was released on February 12, 2019 on the catwalks of the international spring Geneva Motor Show. He received the most dramatic changes. Models in the European specification will be equipped with a trimmed line of units, a more modern multimedia system, as well as a new exterior in the current brand style. It’s easy to distinguish the restyling from the pre-reform model. It has a completely new front end with Dynamic Shield styling. What catches your eye is the unusual two-story layout of the headlights, the radiator grille with two large raised ribs and the ribbed protective trim under the central air intake. The stern, in turn, received two-color brake lights and a more prominent rear bumper.

Dimensions

Mitsubishi ACX is an urban five-seat compact crossover. The exact dimensions of the updated version have not been specified, but we can say with complete confidence that they will not differ significantly from the previous model. It measured 4295 mm in length, 1615 mm in height, 1770 mm in height and 2670 mm between the axles. Ground clearance is average by the standards of this class. There is about 195 millimeters between the bottom point of the bottom and the ground. It is noteworthy that the car is based on a platform known as “Project global”, designed back in the early 00s. Despite its advanced age, it still meets modern requirements, and also forms the basis of Lancer and Outlander. The suspension has a classic, completely independent structure for this segment - McPherson struts and a multi-link system. As for the size of the trunk, it is slightly less than average and amounts to 384 liters when loaded under the overhead parcel, taking into account the raised seat backs.

Specifications

The manufacturer stated that the updated Mitsubishi ASX for the European market received only one single engine. Previously, it was intended exclusively for older versions. This is a two-liter in-line naturally aspirated petrol four MIVEC2. It has two camshafts, multi-point fuel supply and a proprietary variable valve timing system. As a result, the engineers managed to squeeze out 150 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 197 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. Transmission options will be a five-speed manual transmission or an INVECS3-III CVT. All-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. Depending on the version, the car reaches a hundred in 9.6-11.7 seconds, is capable of accelerating to a maximum of 191-194 kilometers per hour and consumes about 7.7 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers in a mixed cycle.

equipment

After restyling, the Mitsubishi ASX color palette will be replenished with three new positions: Sunshine Orange, Red Diamond and Oak Brown. The main change in the interior is the enlarged screen of the new multimedia system. In the previous version, its diagonal was 7 inches versus 8 in the restyling. Moreover, it features new software for synchronizing with Smartphone-link Display Audio smartphones. For an additional fee, you can order the advanced TomTom5 navigation system, which is updated via the Internet.

The fashion for parquet SUVs without a frame structure has been actively developing since 2007-2008, and soon there was a demand for such cars among people who do not leave the city. But in urban environments, large cars are not held in high esteem, and manufacturers have offered compact and sub-compact crossovers specifically for residents of megacities.

It was in order to fill this niche that Mitsubishi released the ASX crossover. The concept model first appeared in 2007 under the name Concept-cX. Even at that time, the model looked like a production model, but the financial and economic crisis slightly changed plans, and the production model itself debuted only in 2010 in Geneva under the name ASX. The Japanese, of course, are masters of splurging and inventing big names, and the abbreviation ASX stands for Active Sport X-over - a SUV for active driving, but it’s still worth saying that the technical characteristics of the Mitsubishi asx really do not allow its already few competitors to compare with him.

Geometric parameters of the car

Like a true city dweller, the ASX has very compact dimensions:

  • length 4295 mm
  • width 1770 mm
  • height 1625 mm
  • ground clearance 195 mm
  • wheelbase – 2670 mm
  • The luggage compartment volume is an impressive 415 liters
  • tank volume – 63 l
  • unloaded weight – 1300 kg,
  • total weight – 1870 kg.

After the cosmetic update, which took place in 2013, the main dimensions have not changed. The luggage compartment has become slightly smaller - 384 liters (1219 liters with the rear row seats folded) and the fuel tank volume has been reduced to 60 liters. In addition, the front and rear bumpers were changed, more chrome appeared, and the geometry of the radiator grille changed.

Changes in technical terms: the shock absorbers were reconfigured, bushings-silent blocks were replaced and levers with increased rigidity were introduced. The handbrake mechanism is now integrated into the brake caliper of one of the rear wheels. Changes to the suspension were made due to customer feedback. Mitsubishi is placing a big bet on our market, and therefore, before updating the model, brand engineers came to Russia to communicate with the owners and a focus group.

Inside the car, the shape of the transmission mode selection puck has changed, and the navigation system has been modernized - it now supports SD memory cards.

Despite its compactness, the ASX is built on a mature platform, which has undergone many tests and is installed on the latest generation Lancer and the now discontinued Outlander XL.

Engines and gearboxes

The model, both before and after the update, was supplied to the Russian market with three gasoline units:

  • 1.6 liters, 117 hp. and torque of 154 Nm at 4 thousand rpm. This engine can be described as calm; taking into account the weight of the car, it does not go fast - the speedometer needle rises to 100 km/h in 11.4 seconds. But the engine is quite economical and consumes about 8 liters in city mode and 6.1 liters in highway mode. This engine was developed jointly with the Daimler concern and was installed on the Mitsubishi Colt back in 2004. Paired with this power unit, a five-speed manual transmission was installed.
  • 1.8 liters with a power of 140 hp. (143 hp for Europe). Torque was 177 Nm at 4250 rpm. This unit was developed jointly with Hyundai and Crysler, and although it was more powerful than the base engine, it could not boast the same dynamics. Acceleration to 100 km/h is a long 13.1 seconds, and per 100 km in the city the consumption is 9.8 liters (6.4 liters on the highway). The engine's capabilities are reduced due to the uncontested CVT transmission. Undoubtedly, such a transmission has its advantages - amazing smoothness, but you have to pay for it with mediocre dynamics with a fairly powerful engine. Another advantage of the variator is its reliability, provided that the oil is changed regularly.
  • The 2.0 liter is the most powerful ASX engine on our market, producing 150 hp. and 197 Nm of torque. This version has all-wheel drive, combined with the same CVT. The car accelerates to “hundreds” in 11.9 seconds and consumes 10.5 liters in the city and 8.1 liters on the highway.
  • Due to high requirements for diesel fuel, one of the most interesting power units is not supplied to our country: 1.8 liters with a power of 150 hp. and a torque of 300 Nm. It is ASX's best-selling engine in Europe due to its excellent dynamic and performance characteristics.

All-wheel drive system

The Mitsubishi company has been producing SUVs for several years, and therefore the technical characteristics of the Mitsubishi ACX are more reminiscent of the older models of the brand.

In the case of the ASX, one of the key features of all-wheel drive is the ability to switch modes. Even larger and more expensive crossovers do not provide the owner with the choice of drive; everything is run by electronics. But the compact ASX is not like that; at its discretion, the owner can enable the following modes:

  • “Auto” mode, which allows you to leave everything to the computer.
  • The mode includes exclusively front-wheel drive for driving on good roads, which also allows you to save fuel.
  • There is a 4x4 Lock mode, which allows you to overcome various kinds of obstacles, and in which the rear drive is forcibly connected, and does not turn on when the front wheels slip.

ASX Options

Selecting the ASX package will not be difficult for a wide variety of budgets; the price range of the model is from 699,000 rubles to 1,249,900 rubles. This price range includes 12 different model trim levels.

The model with a base 1.6-liter front-wheel drive engine and manual transmission is sold in three versions:

  • Inform 2WD - 699,000 rubles - is equipped in a spartan manner and does not even have heated front seats or any audio system, which is surprising for such a price. The only device responsible for comfort is air conditioning.
  • Invite 2 WD – RUR 779,990 – is equipped a little better and includes a set of the most necessary systems, but there are still 2 airbags, for the driver and front passenger, as in the basic version
  • Intense 2 WD – RUR 829,990 – the most expensive version for this engine, it is equipped noticeably richer: the number of airbags increases significantly, including side curtains and a knee airbag for the driver. Also appearing are fog lights, alloy wheels, roof rails, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob and a color display on the dashboard.

The configurations for the version with a 1.8-liter engine are generally equipped in the same way, progressively, as the younger version with a 1.6-liter engine, but all have a CVT:

  • Inform 2WD – 849,990 rub. In addition to the basic elements, the version with a smaller engine includes: a dynamic stabilization system, a hill assist system, virtual gear shift paddles, heated front seats and an audio system with 4 speakers.
  • Invite 2 WD – RUR 899,990 Compared to the 1.6 Invite 2 WD, it is supplemented with the following elements: stability control and anti-slip control, hill assist system, passenger and driver side airbags, curtain airbags for both rows, driver knee airbag, PTF, alloy wheels wheels, roof rails, paddle shifters, leather steering wheel and gear knob, color display on the dashboard.
  • Intense 2 WD – RUR 969,990 It differs from the younger version in the same configuration by the presence of the following elements: exchange rate stability system and anti-slip system, hill-climbing assistant, electric rear view mirror with integrated turn signals, tinted windows, gearshift paddles, cruise control, leather interior trim , electric driver's seat, lamp for rear passengers, audio system with 6 speakers, USB connector, rear view camera, rain and light sensor, climate control.

Equipment with a 2-liter engine is equipped only with a CVT and all-wheel drive. A total of 4 versions of this configuration are sold, the first three (from 979,990 to 1,099,990 rubles) are equipped exactly like the version with a 1.8 liter engine, but there is another version with the most complete optional set:

  • Exclusive 4WD worth RUR 1,249,990, which includes: xenon headlights with auto leveling, 17-inch alloy wheels with a similar spare wheel, Rockford Fostgate audio system with 8 speakers and a subwoofer, navigation system, keyless entry system and panoramic glass roof.

Conclusion

It is not surprising that the ASX is very popular among domestic buyers; according to the technical specifications, the ground clearance of the Mitsubishi ASX is 198 mm, which is simply an outstanding result for a compact crossover. The only direct competitors that can be distinguished are the Skoda Yeti and the Opel Mokka, but neither one nor the other can compete with it in off-road capabilities and do not have such impressive ground clearance. ASX sells well not only in our country, but also in Europe. Seeing this state of affairs, alliance allies Peugeot and Citroen even made their crossovers based on the ASX: Peugeot 4008 and Citroen C4 AirCross.
