    INTRODUCTION

Hyundai Tucson is named after the North American city in Arizona. In the language of the indigenous Pima Indians, the word "tucson" means "spring at the foot of the black mountain."
This representative of the SUV class best combines characteristics for daily use with solid off-road qualities. It has a sporty appearance and plenty of power for active driving.
The swift and pleasing appearance gives the car the decisive masculine features that buyers traditionally want to see in an SUV. Its main advantages are versatility and practicality. The front view turned out to be quite impressive. The Tucson has a relatively large grille up front, as well as headlights that blend in with the hood lines and fender edges. The front bumper is a large chunky molding that runs straight from the grille down, houses three large air intakes and two fog lights (on models that have them), and then forms a spoiler. The Tucson's appearance is noticeably enlivened by alloy wheels, roof rails and protective plastic covers on the body and bumpers. The dual exhaust pipes add a special sporty chic.
Adds confidence to 195 mm of ground clearance, which allows you to prove in practice that the “off-road look” is not a deception for future owners.
The car has permanently connected all-wheel drive and when driving on dry asphalt, up to one hundred percent of the traction force is transferred to the front axle. If necessary (for example, when turning or skidding), the rear axle is engaged, and off-road, with one press of a button, you can switch to the mode of forced symmetrical distribution of traction between the axles.
The athletic exterior hides a comfortable, extremely functional interior. One of the distinctive features of the new SUV is a spacious interior in which the driver and passengers will feel very comfortable. A convenient and functional dashboard, the steering wheel does not cover the instruments, everything is in plain sight. The sensor indications are visible even when the sun hits them. The instrument panel contains three elements, with a large speedometer in the center and smaller tachometer and fuel gauge on the sides.
The rear row of seats folds down well. Moreover, when you transform the backrest, the pillow moves, allowing you to form an absolutely flat surface - very smart and convenient. The front passenger seat can also fold down, providing space for long items that need to be carried, or creating a comfortable table for a lone driver. The walls of the luggage compartment are lined with plastic, and the mesh and socket are not forgotten. The large luggage compartment space can be hidden using a hard luggage rack. A large, washable rubber mat covers the hidden storage area under the floor. There are six items to secure cargo to the side of the vehicle to protect cargo, as well as three hooks for attaching bags. The rear door glass opens, which is very convenient when the car is loaded to the brim.
The car is supplied to Russia with a 2.7-liter V6 DOHC engine producing 175 hp. and a 2-liter four-cylinder DOHC CVVT engine producing 142 hp. Both engines run on 92-octane gasoline and are combined with a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
Independent McPherson-type suspension at the front and independent multi-link at the rear create the right mood while driving. On the move, the Tucson is easy to drive and, despite its high seating position, is capable of maneuvering well over a wide speed range.
Safety is provided by crumple zones and airbags, both front and side, along with curtains. Plus, the standard equipment includes many electronic systems (ABS, EBD, TCS, TOD), as well as full electrical accessories, audio preparation and much more. For an additional fee, you can install a tire pressure sensor. In 2006, the car received the highest rating of “5 stars” from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The simplest package includes climate control, ABS, radio, heated front seats and mirrors, roof rails and engine compartment protection, as well as fog lights, power windows on all doors, alloy wheels. Additional options can be installed.
Hyundai Tucson is designed to become a symbol of success, freedom, youth and sporting spirit. Worthyly representing the Hyundai line, this car has become its own in the league of light SUVs, while maintaining a small price gap over its more famous and “promoted” classmates. And this is its peculiarity and advantage.
This manual covers the operation and repair of Hyundai Tucson, both with gasoline and diesel engines, produced since 2003: A necessary condition for the reliable operation of any vehicle and the safety of personnel is strict adherence to the instructions for repair and maintenance. The methods and descriptions given in the Manual provide general principles for performing repair and maintenance work using effective techniques and methods.
The methods and techniques used to perform the work, the tools, devices and spare parts used, as well as the degree of skill of the performers are very diverse. It is impossible to give instructions or warnings for every case of work performed under this Manual. Therefore, whenever you use spare parts, techniques or tools and devices that are not recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, you must first make sure that the spare parts, techniques or tools used will not harm the safety of personnel and the serviceability of the vehicle.
The book can be used in the repair and maintenance of Kia Sportage II cars (from 2005 onwards)

Turn signal warning lights - flashing turn signal warning lights are shaped like green arrows. If one of the lamps stays on or blinks rapidly or does not light up, this indicates a malfunction in the turn signal circuits.

ABS warning lamp (optional equipment) - the ABS brake warning lamp comes on for a few seconds after turning the ignition key to the “ON” position, then goes off. If this lamp does not go out, comes on while driving, or does not come on after turning the ignition key to the “ON” position, this indicates a malfunction of the ABS. In this case, have the ABS checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. If the ABS malfunctions, the brake system remains operational.

ATTENTION
- If the ABS warning light and the parking brake/low brake fluid warning light remain on at the same time, this indicates a possible problem with the Electronic Brake Force Distribution (E.B.D.).
- In this case, avoid sudden braking and have the vehicle checked by a Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.

Traction control warning lamp (optional equipment) - the lighting of the sectors of this warning lamp depends on the position of the ignition key in the lock and whether the system is turned on or not. They should light up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position and go out after three seconds. If the TCS-OFF lamp does not go off, take the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealer to have the system checked.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP) indicator lamp (optional equipment) - the lighting of the sectors of this indicator lamp depends on the position of the ignition key in the lock and whether the system is turned on or not.

The indicator lamp sectors should light up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position and go out after three seconds. If the "ESP" or "ESP OFF" lamp does not go off, take the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealer to have the system checked.

Indicator lamp for turning on the high beam headlights - the lamp lights up when the high beam headlights and the high beam headlight alarm are turned on.

Warning lamp for insufficient oil pressure.

ATTENTION
- If the oil pressure warning light comes on while the engine is running, there is a risk of serious engine damage. The warning light comes on when there is insufficient oil pressure in the engine lubrication system. If the oil pressure is normal, the lamp lights up when the ignition is turned on and goes out after the engine starts.
- If the lamp continues to light while the engine is running, this indicates a serious malfunction of the lubrication system.
- In this case, stop driving as quickly as possible, stop the engine and check the oil level. If the level is insufficient, add oil to the correct level, then start the engine.
If the light remains on after this, stop the engine immediately. In all cases, when the lamp is on while the engine is running, further operation of the vehicle is possible only after checking the engine at an official Hyundai dealer.

Indicator lamp for turning on the parking brake and insufficient brake fluid level.

ATTENTION
If you are in doubt about the functionality of your brake system, have it checked by your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. Operating a vehicle with faulty electrical or hydraulic brake components is dangerous and can result in serious injury or death.

The parking brake and brake fluid level warning lamp lights up when the parking brake is on and the ignition key is in the “ON” or “START” position. After starting the engine and releasing the parking brake, the lamp should go out. When the parking brake is not applied, the lamp lights up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” or “START” position, and goes out after the engine starts. If the lamp comes on, in any other cases it is necessary to reduce the speed and stop the car in a safe place on the road. Illumination of the warning lamp in this case indicates an emergency decrease in the level of brake fluid in the brake system and the need to restore it to normal by adding brake fluid that meets DOT 3 and DOT 4 specifications.

If, after restoring the brake fluid level, no other faults are detected, you should immediately and carefully take the vehicle to a Hyundai dealer for inspection. If other malfunctions of the brake system are detected, further driving must be stopped and the vehicle must be delivered to a Hyundai dealer using a towing service or some other means.

Your vehicle is equipped with a diagonally split braking system. This means that if one of the circuits fails, the brakes on the other two wheels of the car continue to work. If one of the brake hydraulic circuits fails, the brake pedal travel increases and more force on the pedal is required to stop the vehicle. This increases the braking distance of the car. If a brake system malfunction occurs while driving, apply engine braking, engage a low gear, and stop the vehicle in a safe place as soon as possible.

ATTENTION
Diesel vehicles:
- The indicator lamp for turning on the parking brake and insufficient brake fluid level lights up when the vacuum in the vacuum brake booster reaches a value not exceeding 274 mm Hg. The vacuum brake booster operates on a vacuum reserve when the brake pedal is pressed, which is significantly reduced each time the pedal is released. When the vacuum reserve is completely exhausted, the car can be slowed down by increasing the force on the brake pedal, but in this case the braking distance can increase significantly. If the warning light comes on in any other way, stop the vehicle in a safe location off the road.
- After starting the engine, do not start driving until the vacuum reaches a value no higher than approximately 275 mmHg. and the indicator light will not go out. If any other malfunction of the brake system occurs, you should stop driving and contact the towing service to deliver the car to the dealer.

Battery charging warning lamp - the lamp should light up when the ignition is turned on and go out after the engine starts. If the lamp does not go out while the engine is running, this does not indicate a malfunction of the battery charging system. If the light comes on while the vehicle is moving, stop driving, stop the engine, open the hood and first check that the alternator drive belt is in place. If it is in place, check its tension. Then have the system checked by your Hyundai dealer.

ATTENTION
Weak tension, separation or loss of the alternator drive belt while the vehicle is moving will cause serious engine problems, and the engine will overheat, because This belt also drives the water pump.

Indicator lamp and audible warning light for unclosed side doors - the lamp stays on until the doors are tightly closed, and the audible warning light works if the driver's door is not tightly closed.

Note:
To prevent the driver from forgetting leaving the key in a locked car, the warning lamp lights up when the ignition key is turned to the “LOCK” position if one of the doors is not closed. The buzzer only sounds if the key is in the “LOCK” position and the driver’s door is not closed. The buzzer operates and the lamp stays on until the key is removed from the ignition.

Fuel reserve warning lamp - the lamp lights up when the fuel level in the tank drops to the reserve quantity level. When it lights up, you need to refuel as soon as possible. If you continue to drive with the fuel reserve indicator light on or if the fuel level on the indicator is below the “E” mark, the engine will misfire the working mixture, which will cause damage to the exhaust gas catalytic converter.

Tailgate open warning lamp - the lamp stays on until the trunk door is tightly closed and locked.

Airbag warning lamp (optional equipment) - the airbag warning lamp, after turning the ignition key to the “ON” position or starting the engine, lights up for approximately 6 seconds, then goes off.

This lamp also comes on when the SRS supplemental restraint system is faulty. If the airbag warning light does not come on or go off after turning the ignition key to the "ON" position or after starting the engine, or comes on while the vehicle is being driven, have the SRS supplemental restraint system checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Engine malfunction indicator lamp (optional equipment) - the lamp lights up when there is a malfunction of elements related to the exhaust gas toxicity reduction system, and when the system malfunctions, causing exhaust gas toxicity standards to be exceeded. The lamp also lights up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position and goes out after the engine is started. If it comes on while driving or does not come on when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position, take the vehicle to your nearest authorized Hyundai dealer to have the system checked.

All-wheel drive indicator lamp (optional equipment) - the all-wheel drive indicator lamp lights up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position and goes out after a few seconds.

ATTENTION
If the all-wheel drive warning light flashes while driving, this indicates a problem with the all-wheel drive system. In this case, take the vehicle to an authorized Hyundai dealer for inspection as soon as possible.

Center differential lock indicator lamp (optional equipment) - the center differential lock indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights up when the lock switch is pressed. Locking is done to increase traction on the wheels when driving on dry roads, wet hard surfaces, snow or off-road. When you press the lock switch again, the lamp goes out.

ATTENTION
Do not use the center differential lock on dry hard surfaces or on highways. This will cause noise, increased vibration and damage to the all-wheel drive system.

Seat belt warning lamp (optional equipment) - lamp flashes for approximately 6 seconds when the ignition key is turned from the OFF position to the ON or START position. ).

Immobilizer warning lamp (optional equipment) - when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position, the lamp lights up for several seconds, during which you can start the engine. After starting the engine, the lamp goes out. If the lamp goes out before you start the engine, you should set the key to the “LOCK” position and repeat the start. If, when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position, the lamp flashes for 5 seconds, this indicates that the immobilizer has failed. In this case, you should use the emergency engine start procedure (see pages 1-5) or contact an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Cruise control indicator light (optional) - The cruise control indicator light in the instrument cluster lights up when you press the system main switch located at the end of the drum switch. When you press the main switch again, the lamp should go out.

Pre-heating warning lamp (vehicles with a diesel engine) - the lamp lights up yellow when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position. As soon as the pre-heating lamp goes out, you can start the engine. The duration of lamp burning varies depending on the coolant temperature, air temperature and the condition of the battery.

Note:
If the engine does not start within 10 seconds after the end of preheating (after the warning light goes out), turn the ignition key back to the “LOCK” position, then to the “ON” position to repeat the preheating cycle.

Warning lamp for the presence of water in the fuel filter (vehicles with a diesel engine) - the lamp lights up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position and goes out after starting the engine. If the light comes on while the engine is running, this indicates the presence of water in the fuel filter.

SOUND ALARM FOR EXTERNAL LIGHTING NOT TURNED OFF (ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT)

The audible warning light turns on when the driver's door is opened and the exterior lighting is not turned off to prevent the battery from discharging when the vehicle is left with the lights on. When the lights are turned off, the alarm stops.

AUDIBLE BRAKE PADS WEAR ALARM (OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT)

Front disc brake pads have wear indicators that produce a squealing or squealing sound that indicates the brake pads need to be replaced. While the vehicle is moving, this sound may come and go or be constant. It can also be heard when the brake pedal is pressed hard. Worn pads cause accelerated wear of brake discs. Contact your Hyundai dealer immediately.

PARKING BRAKE WARNING WARNING (OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT)

The warning light turns on if the vehicle with the parking brake on is moving for more than 2-3 seconds at a speed of 3 km/h.

SEAT BELT WARNING WARNER (OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT)

The alarm sounds for 6 seconds if the driver starts driving without fastening his seat belt.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR

The indicator arrow shows the approximate fuel level in the tank.

COOLANT TEMPERATURE INDICATOR

ATTENTION
- Never open the radiator cap on a hot engine. This may cause pressurized coolant to escape, causing severe burns. Wait until the engine has cooled before removing the radiator cap.

The gauge needle should not go beyond normal operating temperature. If it enters the H (Hot) zone, stop driving and stop the engine as soon as possible. Open the hood and check the coolant level in the expansion tank and the condition of the water pump drive belt. If you suspect a problem with the cooling system, have the system checked by your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.

TACHOMETER

The tachometer shows the engine speed in revolutions per minute (rpm).

ATTENTION
Do not allow the engine to operate at excessively high speeds, at which the tachometer needle enters the red zone. This may cause serious engine damage and may void the manufacturer's warranty.

Recently, Mercedes-Benz has presented a considerable number of interesting new products that have caused a lot of noise in the automotive world. Just remember the new GLC model, which was presented at an event that the company held in its homeland. However, the German brand presented the largest number of new products at the recent Geneva Motor Show. One of the most striking and interesting new products that was presented in Switzerland was the interesting concept SUV G500 4x4, which was shown in Geneva in acid yellow, which attracted additional attention to it. And although the car was initially presented as a concept, the company decided to put it into mass production, thereby delighting all connoisseurs of good SUVs with amazing cross-country ability.

At the end of March, the number of new Hyundai Solaris sold by AvtoVAZ increased and became more than the Lada Priora sold. Just a little was not enough to reach the sales level of the Lada Kalina, which is the leader in terms of sales. According to the AEB (Association of European Business) report, in March 2012, 10,592 new Hyundai Solaris cars were sold in Russia. Compared to March 2011, this figure increased by 57%. And since the beginning of 2012, 27,072 Hyundai Solaris have already been sold.

The Hyundai Elantra is more than just another compact sedan, coupe and hatchback. It's an example of how quickly South Korean manufacturers are able to learn lessons, and how quickly they have overcome a path that took decades for Japanese car companies. The Elantra came out of nowhere, but it managed to become a true best-seller, one of the best compact cars on the market in the United States. Now this car is better than the Corolla, better than the Civic, it competes with the Cruze and Focus. Moreover, Elantra was awarded the title of "Best Sedan in North America in 2012."

The size and dimensions of a car are just as important as efficiency - this thesis is best embodied in the new version of the Hyundai Accent, which appeared in 2012 and underwent some changes in 2013. The car is bigger than before, it's much better equipped, and it goes up against compact cars like the Fiat 500 and Ford Fiesta. The developers thought more about the financial attractiveness and practicality of the car, so it became closer to the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa, and in terms of design it has many similarities with the Kia Rio.

Hyundai Tucson general information (Hyundai Tucson / Tucson)

For the first time, the Hyundai Tucson SUV class (Sport Utility Vehicle), which means “vehicle for active recreation” (in Russia, cars of this class are called crossovers), was shown in February 2004 at an exhibition in Chicago, and its official premiere took place in March 2004 at the Geneva Motor Show. The car is produced at the Hyundai Motor Company plant located in Ulsan (South Korea). In addition, the company plans to begin production of the Tucson car in 2008 in the city of Nosovice (Czech Republic). In the European market, Hyundai Tucson cars are offered in GL, GLS and LX trim levels.
Only the GLS package with three levels of equipment is supplied to Russia. The basic equipment package includes electric windows and all doors, velor or leather interior, automatic climate control, central locking, self-dimming rear view mirror with built-in compass, air quality control system, automatic control of external lighting (automatic headlights), alloy wheels , electrically heated mirrors and front seats, engine compartment protection. For an extra charge, cruise control, fog lights, and roof rails are installed.
The body is station wagon type, load-bearing, all-metal, welded construction with hinged front fenders, doors, hood and tailgate. For the Russian market, Hyundai Tucson cars are equipped with two gasoline engines located across the engine compartment: a four-cylinder in-line DOHC engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters and a six-cylinder V6 with a displacement of 2.7 liters. The TCI diesel engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters provided for by the design is supplied only to the American and European markets. In this publication, the engine design is described in more detail using the example of the DOHC engine as the most common in Russia, with differences from others. engines are specified separately.

Cars for the Russian market with a DOHC engine are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, and with a V6 engine - a 4-speed sequential (with manual control) automatic transmission SHIFTRONIC. Both gearboxes are interlocked with transfer cases, since cars are supplied to Russia only with permanent front-wheel drive and with automatically connected all-wheel drive of the Torque-on-Demand type, equipped with an electronically controlled center clutch (with the ability to manually lock) from Borg-Warner for connecting the rear wheels. In addition, non-all-wheel drive vehicles (only front-wheel drive) are supplied to the European market, and only front-wheel drive vehicles are supplied to the American market. Front suspension is MacPherson type, independent, spring, with anti-roll bar, with hydraulic shock absorber struts. The rear suspension is independent, spring, multi-link, with anti-roll bar, and hydraulic shock absorber struts.
The brakes on all wheels are disc brakes with a floating caliper, and the front brake discs are ventilated. Drum parking brake mechanisms are built into the brake mechanisms of the rear wheels. All cars are equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with optional traction control system (TCS) and dynamic stabilization subsystem (ESP).
The steering is safety-resistant, with a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism with a variable gear ratio and is equipped with a hydraulic booster. The steering column is tilt adjustable. A frontal airbag is installed in the steering wheel hub (as well as in front of the front passenger). Additionally (on request), side airbags are installed for the driver and front passenger, as well as air curtains located on both sides of the ceiling above the front and rear doors. Hyundai Tucson cars are equipped with a centralized door lock control system with all doors locked using a button on the driver's door, as well as a button on the key fob. All vehicles are equipped with inertial diagonal seat belts for the driver, front passenger and rear seat passengers.

Design Features
Hyundai Tucson cars intended for the Russian market are equipped with transversely mounted four-stroke gasoline injection engines: a four-cylinder 16-valve in-line model G4GC (DOHC, 142 hp) with a displacement of 2.0 liters and a six-cylinder 24-valve V-shaped mod. G6BA (V6, 175 hp) with a displacement of 2.7 liters. The G4GC engine is equipped with variable valve timing (CVVT). This section describes in detail the design and methods of engine repair. The G4GC engine is the most widely installed in cars. The design and some aspects of maintenance and repair of the G6BA engine are given in a separate section “Design Features of the G6BA Engine”.
The G4GC engine has two overhead camshafts and has four valves per cylinder. The exhaust camshaft is driven by a reinforced timing belt. Belt tension is provided by a tension roller. The intake camshaft is driven by a CVVT sprocket mounted on the exhaust camshaft by a single roller chain tensioned by a spring tensioner. The valves are driven directly from the camshafts through cylindrical pushers, in the upper grooves of which calibrated washers are installed, which serve as adjusting elements for the clearances in the drive.

Lubrication system - design features
The lubrication system is combined: the most loaded parts are lubricated under pressure, and the rest - either by directed splashing or by splashing oil flowing from the gaps between the mating parts. The lubrication system pressure is generated by a gear oil pump mounted externally at the front of the cylinder block and driven from the front end of the crankshaft. The pump is made with internal trochoidal gear engagement.
The pump sucks oil from the engine oil sump through an oil receiver with a strainer, and then delivers it through a full-flow oil filter with a porous paper filter element to the main oil line located in the body of the cylinder block. Oil supply channels to the main bearings of the crankshaft extend from the main line. Oil is supplied to the connecting rod bearings through channels made in the body of the crankshaft. A vertical channel for supplying oil to the camshaft bearings extends from the main oil line. In addition, oil is supplied under pressure from the main engine oil line to the variable valve timing system and to the intake camshaft drive chain tensioner.
To lubricate the camshaft bearings, oil from the vertical channel enters the central axial channels of the camshafts through a radial hole in the neck of one of the bearings and is distributed along them to the remaining bearings. The camshaft cams are lubricated by oil supplied from the central axial channels through the radial holes in the cams. Excess oil is drained from the cylinder head into the oil sump through vertical drainage channels. Replacing the engine oil and oil filter is described in “Maintenance”, “Changing the engine oil and oil filter”, removal and installation of the oil pump is discussed in the next subsection.
