All about Toyota Vish cars. Japanese crossover Toyota Wish, its design, brief characteristics and features

A versatile and practical car produced by a Japanese brand is very popular in many countries. Since the start of mass production of the right-hand drive crossover in early 2003, it has been highly appreciated by buyers all over the world. An excellent combination of functionality, technical excellence and a magnificent exterior in a sporty style - the dream of the most demanding car enthusiasts.

General characteristics and design of Toyota Wish

The compact size car has 5 doors and 3 rows of seats and comfortably accommodates 7 people. The minivan class crossover is made taking into account the current fashion trends of the modern car market. Toyota Vish is developed based on Corolla. Since there are no official supplies of the Japanese crossover in Russia, in our country it is presented in a right-hand drive version.

This beautiful sports crossover has a carefully thought-out and harmonious design. It is impossible to take your eyes off the smooth lines brought together into a monolithic elongated shape. The wedge-shaped front end seems to cut through the air when driving quickly. The side windows extend towards the trunk, giving passengers an excellent view.

The wide wheel arrangement and comfortable floor create sufficient space in the cabin for passengers. This does not reduce the size of the trunk at all. The main difference between this model and the more familiar ones with 2 rows is the increased interior comfort and spacious luggage compartment.

Toyota Wish was the result of the manufacturer's pursuit of ideality. The steering wheel is multifunctional. The stylish interior is made in dark shades, and high-quality materials that are pleasant to the touch are used for upholstery. The interior is equipped with various accessories for maximum passenger comfort - pockets, holders, drawers under the seats.

Technical and operational characteristics

Toyota Vish has a powerful and reliable engine of 1.8 and 2 liters with 4 rows of cylinders, and is also equipped with a variable gas distribution phase system.

Power of the main versions of the crossover:

  • with all-wheel drive - 125 hp;
  • with front-wheel drive - 132 hp;
  • the latest version of the car equipped with a CVT - 155 hp.

The package includes a four-speed automatic transmission. The modern D4 power system is highly efficient and reliable. The front suspension of the Toyota Vish is represented by a shock-absorbing strut. The stand is equipped with a screw type spring. The rear suspension is 2-link. But front-wheel drive versions of the crossover provide a simplified rear suspension (torsion bar type).

The car maneuvers superbly, and the engine is almost silent. Different versions of this model have a different turning radius. A minivan with front-wheel drive has a radius of 5.3 m, 4 WD - 5.5 m. All-wheel drive Toyota Vish with a 1.8 liter engine provides for connecting the rear axle using an electro-mechanical clutch.

Toyota Wish protection systems

Crossover protective systems:

  • anti-lock braking system, characterized by uniform distribution of brake forces;
  • additional Brake Assist brake system;
  • airbags - 2 as standard (additional installation of side airbags is possible);
  • curtain airbags (purchased separately).

Even basic models are equipped with these systems. The most expensive versions of this model are equipped with especially powerful headlights that perfectly illuminate the road in the dark. The expensive package also includes an aero body kit, and the steering wheel is covered with leather wicker.

Major changes

The manufacturer is constantly working to improve this popular car. The main changes affected the front bumper and rear. Powerful reflectors began to be built into the rear bumper.

The body is now equipped with shiny chrome-plated elements. This adds more appeal to an already chic model. The latest design changes took place in 2005. They affected headlights and bumpers, as well as interior equipment (control panel). The production of Toyota Wish continues in this version.

Conclusion

Toyota Vish competes with other minivan-type cars. This is one of the best models from Toyota. A variety of versions with different drives and several trim levels made the car a bestseller. In Japan, it held the position of leader in the car market for a long time. The name of the model means “desire”, and it fully corresponds to the truth and desires of car enthusiasts.

Production of the Toyota Vish car (photos below) started in 2003. It is a compact minivan designed to simultaneously transport seven people, including the driver. From the very beginning of its existence, the model was distinguished by its full compliance with all the main trends in its market segment. This can explain its great popularity and recognition in many countries around the world.

Debut

The 2003 Toyota Wish made its debut during an exhibition in Tokyo. The car was equipped with a 1.8-liter in-line power unit, which consisted of four cylinders and operated in conjunction with a four-speed CVT automatic transmission. Its power was 132 horsepower. The model was sold in two versions - only with front-wheel drive or with all-wheel drive. Some time later, a two-liter engine capable of developing 156 “horses” was developed for it.

general description

The Corolla model became the base model for the Toyota Vish car. The technical characteristics and general styling of these two cars are therefore quite similar. In the exterior, the sporty style of the car catches your eye. The side windows have an elongated shape towards the trunk, which provides excellent visibility for passengers. In addition, due to the flat floor and wide wheelbase, the designers provided a sufficient amount of space not only for seats, but also for the luggage compartment.

Interior

The car received an interior that is trimmed with high quality fabric. Its main feature was the ability to independently change the combination of the arrangement of passenger seats. The front panel, like the inner parts of the doors, is made of black soft plastic. The instrument panel features three dials with bright orange backlighting. A deflector is installed on top of the Toyota Vish center console, and next to it is a digital player with a 7-inch display. At the bottom left are the air conditioning control keys and the gear shift lever. These systems can also be controlled using the buttons on the steering column. Due to the presence of a third row of seats, the trunk has a quite modest volume - only two hundred liters. However, when they are folded, this figure increases significantly.

Specifications

The technical characteristics of the Toyota Vish model deserve special mention. The maximum speed of a car equipped with a 1.8-liter engine is 190 km/h, while it takes nine seconds to accelerate from zero to “hundreds”. In this case, the fuel consumption of the car is 7.3 liters. In the version with a more powerful installation, the highest speed is similar, the acceleration time is 8.5 seconds, and the consumption is 7.6 liters.

Second generation

For the second generation Toyota Vish, which appeared in 2009, the designers modernized the electric generator and battery. The result of the work done was a reduction in fuel consumption. This is especially true for cars with a power unit capacity of 1.8 liters. In particular, for every hundred kilometers the car now requires 6.6 liters for the all-wheel drive version and 6.1 liters for the front-wheel drive version. All kinds of road imperfections and irregularities are smoothed out thanks to the soft suspension. As car owners note, one of the serious advantages of the new product is the rather low noise level, which is especially noticeable when driving at low speeds. At the same time, when you sharply press the gas pedal, the by no means weak engine of the Toyota Vish reminds you of itself with a strong roar. Reviews from car owners indicate its good driving dynamics and tenacious brakes. Among other things, they note the relatively low cost of car maintenance.

Latest version

The 2013 model stands out for its spectacular exterior design. At the front of the car, thin, long headlights catch the eye and are fully consistent with the traditions of the company. They are quite large in size and horizontal in orientation. The roof falls back smoothly and ends with a spoiler. The latest generation Toyota Vish car can accommodate seven people at the same time. If necessary, the last row of seats can be folded, thereby increasing the volume of the luggage compartment. Among the materials used for upholstery, soft and pleasant to the touch plastic predominates. As for the seats, they are covered with thin cloth. The main elements on the front panel are arranged in a standard order, typical of most Japanese cars. On top of it is a seven-inch touchscreen monitor.

The car can be driven by two types of engines. The first of them is a 130-horsepower “four” with a volume of 1.8 liters. The second option is a four-cylinder unit with a volume of 2 liters and a power of 152 horsepower. Both engines can be paired with a four-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed CVT transmission. As for standard equipment, it includes six airbags, full power accessories, multifunctional ESP, ABS, and climate control.

and cost

The Toyota Vish model is intended primarily for the Asian market. It is in greatest demand in Taiwan, Thailand and Japan. At the same time, the car is quite popular in other regions. Its main target audience was young families. The explanation for this is quite simple. The fact is (reviews confirm this) that in a safe, practical and economical minivan you can quite comfortably make daily trips to work, and on weekends the whole family can go out of town or to the beach, and also with friends.

You can purchase this first or second generation car on the domestic secondary market for an amount of about seventeen thousand US dollars. This cost may vary depending on the equipment, year of manufacture and condition of the machine. You will have to service it yourself, since official centers will most likely refuse to even supply spare parts. On the other hand, numerous small services that specialize in used Japanese cars will help in these matters.

The Toyota Wish minivan, in its second generation produced for the Japanese domestic market since 2009, was presented in an updated version in the spring of 2012. The manufacturer slightly changed the exterior of the model, worked on the quality of the interior and increased fuel efficiency. You can distinguish the refreshed model by sportier bumpers, a new false radiator grille, as well as a chrome trim on the rear door, LED taillights and an additional brake light.

The car is equipped with side mirrors with repeaters, and new configurations with aerodynamic body kits have appeared. There have been no global changes in the power unit - under the hood there are modernized 2ZR-FAE and 3ZR-FAE with a capacity of 130-143 and 152 horsepower. With the younger engine, all-wheel drive is available, as before.

Changes in the interior of Toyota Wish since 2012 include the usual set of solutions for restyling. An updated instrument cluster and steering wheel, new upholstery materials and color schemes, while some decorative trim elements can be combined with the body color. Carbon fiber interior parts were developed especially for the new sports trim levels, namely: the center console and the trim for the power window control module. In 2013, a special Monotone series was released based on the standard 1.8 S model - with an aggressive design, rich equipment with a standard anti-theft system, dark chrome on the exterior, and two-tone wheels. Wish is still very easy to use. The peculiarity of the three rows of seats in the cabin is that their arrangement can be changed in various combinations. The backs of the second row seats can be turned into tables. There is plenty of storage space. The 2.0Z models feature a six-seat layout and improved interior equipment.

The engines on the updated Wish are installed as before - 1.8- or 2-liter DOHC with four cylinders and a Valvematic-type variable valve timing system, which changes the valve lift height depending on engine operating conditions and ensures high fuel efficiency. At the same time, bench fuel consumption indicators were brought into compliance with new standards under Japanese law. Thus, the front-wheel drive restyled Vish with a 1.8-liter engine consumes 6.3 liters per hundred kilometers, the all-wheel drive version, as well as configurations with two-liter engines, consume about 7 liters per hundred kilometers. The transmission on all models is CVT; a 7-speed sequential gear shift mode is available for the 3ZR-FE. Since 2015, Wish with a 1.8-liter engine has become even more economical due to improvements to the CVT - consumption has decreased to 6.2 l/100 km.

The Toyota Wish suspension includes MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear on front-wheel drive vehicles (except for the Z package) or a double wishbone design on all-wheel drive versions and the Z package. The wheelbase is 2750 mm. The minimum turning radius is 5.2 m, which ensures good maneuverability in city parking conditions. Body dimensions (L x W x H): 4600 x 1745 x 1600 mm. Interior dimensions: 2660 x 1470 x 1315 mm. Among other things, this model has a very convenient trunk. In the standard position, its dimensions are small (length 405 mm), but with the third row folded, the length of the trunk increases to 1095-1140 mm, and if you fold the front seat, you can transport long items.

The safety of Toyota Wish is determined by ABS systems with EBD and Brake Assist, electronic stability control, and a parking assistance system. Standard equipment includes front and side airbags, curtain airbags, active head restraints, and three-point seat belts for all seats.

In the second generation, the Wish minivan retained its stylish appearance and high functionality. This machine is truly designed for every taste and every lifestyle, including active ones. The update has improved the minivan in all respects. The main advantages remain affordable price, ease of operation, capacity and fuel economy. The owners cite whimsical engines, low ground clearance, cheap plastic in the interior, and stiff suspension as disadvantages.

Cars produced in Japan with right-hand drive are very much appreciated in our country. When the Russian authorities tried to ban these cars in our country, it caused a real wave of popular indignation, and the Russian government was forced to cancel these plans.
The popularity of the Japanese automobile industry is due to the incredible quality of these cars. Neither in Germany, nor in the USA, and especially in Russia, such reliable cars are not produced today.
In addition, all Japanese concerns produce their own special line of cars for their market, which have no analogues with right-hand drive, and in our country they are practically unknown.

In Japan, such a class of cars as minivans is still very popular. Each Japanese company produces several models of this class. At the same time, this class of cars has much lower popularity in the world. Therefore, today not every global concern produces minivans, and even those that produce them make a maximum of one or two models. Thus, many Japanese minivans find themselves with no alternative. One of these cars is the Toyota Vish minivans, which will be discussed in this article.

Model history

For the first time, a car with the name Toyota Wish appeared at the 2002 Tokyo Motor Show. The auto show was held in October, and it was presented as a model for the next year, 2003. Despite its rather impressive size, the first generation was developed on the basis of the compact Toyota Corolla model. The development of the model was carried out under the guidance of engineer Takeshi Yoshida. At the same time, the minivans had three rows of seats and were equipped with powerful power units with a volume of 1.8 and 2 liters.

At the beginning of the century, the popularity of minivans was higher, and the new Japanese minivan immediately began to sell in good numbers. In order to meet demand, the Japanese were forced to set up production of Vish in Thailand and Taiwan. True, they never decided to do it with left-hand drive.

Toyota Wish first generation

At the end of 2005, the minivan underwent a planned restyling. The restyling affected only the appearance and was aimed at increasing the sportiness of the car and the space in the trunk. Which was a success. The car became even more popular and received recognition among the younger generation of Japanese.

Toyota Vish first generation after restyling

First generation of Visha stood on the assembly line for 6 years, after which it was replaced by the second generation. It was released in 2009. The minivan has become even larger, but at the same time retained its affordable price. Like the first generation car, it was produced in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (4WD) configurations. The set of engines in the car remained the same.

Toyota Wish second generation

Three years after the start of production of the second generation in 2012 year, a planned restyling of the Toyota Wish took place. And it is this car that we will look at in more detail.

Toyota Vish second generation after restyling

In conclusion to the story Toyota Wish It is definitely worth mentioning that in 2017 year the model was released discontinued.

Appearance

Since the first generation, Vish's appearance has not changed dramatically. All changes were purely evolutionary in nature, which were made to give the car a more sporty silhouette.
In the front part of the car after restyling, the bumper has changed slightly. There have also been minor changes to the radiator grille, although you won’t notice them right away.

The front part of the updated Toyota Wish

The side projection of the Japanese minivan, in fact, has not changed since the very first generation of the car. Then the minivan was made like a classic station wagon with a low roof, only in a single-volume version.
From the very start of the model's release, the car looked very fast and sporty. A particularly sporty design style is emphasized by the window line, which tapers towards the rear of the car. Therefore, on the side, Japanese designers wisely decided not to change anything radically, but to leave the sides of their minivan the same as they were back in 2003.
Separately, it should be noted that all the doors of the car are hinged, like on conventional cars, and the second pair is not sliding, like on most minivans.

Side view of the new Toyota Vish

Although the rear of the car is quite discreet, the chrome tailgate handle and LED parking lights give it a modern and fresh style.
Summarizing the sensations from the exterior of the Toyota Wish, it must be said that, despite all the design tricks, the car looks a bit boring. Perhaps this was one of the reasons for the drop in demand for the car and its removal from production last year, 2017.

Dimensions of Toyota Vish

The Toyota Wish body has the following dimensions:

  • Length – 4600 mm;
  • Width – 1720 mm;
  • Height – 1600 mm;
  • Ground clearance – 150 mm;
  • Wheelbase – 2750 mm.

Interior and interior equipment

Despite all its sophisticated design, the Vish's front panel looks old-fashioned. Although the equipment includes a 7-inch LCD display (only on rich trim levels), a Start-Stop button and other electronic systems.

Front panel of Toyota Vish

In addition, the following electronic systems can be found on expensive versions of the Japanese minivan:

  • EBD brake force distribution system;
  • Brake Assist System BAS

Many will wonder what it is and why it is needed, because there is good old ABS. The BAS system contains a high-pressure pump, which instantly locks the wheels when the brake pedal is pressed sharply. And already then the ABS mentioned above begins to work. Thus, cars equipped with this system have a braking distance that is 15% shorter than cars not equipped with such a system.

  • ESP stability control system;
  • Traction control system TCS;
  • Adaptive cruise control;
  • Keyless entry system;
  • Climate control;

Toyota Wish safety systems

In addition to the electronic systems described above, six airbags are also responsible for the safety of passengers. Two front, two side, and two curtains.

As for the interior of the minivan, it has three rows of seats and 7 seats. At the same time, the second row of seats is designed for three seats, and not the third, as in most minivans.

Toyota Wish interior

The interior floor of the Toyota Vish is flat, which provides great possibilities for transformation and the ability to move freely from row to row.
Due to the three rows of seats in the Toyota Wish, the trunk volume with the backrests of the third row raised is frankly modest and amounts to only 200 liters. Of course, if the backs of the third row are lowered, the volume will increase significantly. Unfortunately, it was not possible to find an exact figure, but it seems that it is somewhere in the region of 1000 liters.

Technical stuffing

The list of power units of the car consists of two engines with a volume of 1.8 and 2 liters. These engines have the following characteristics:

  • Gas engine volume 1797 cm³, power 130 hp, with a torque of 161 N*m at 4000 rpm. Factory marking 2ZR-FAE ;

Cars with these power units are quite economical, given the size and weight; the car consumes only 7-8 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.

  • Gas engine volume 1986 cm³, power 152 hp, with a torque of 193 N*m at 3800 rpm. Factory marking 3ZR-FAE;

Toyota Wish engine with a volume of 1.8 liters Toyota 2ZR-FAE

There are also two gearboxes for these power units. Quite outdated 4-speed automatic and 7-speed CVT.
The car also has two transmissions. One is front-wheel drive, and the other is all-wheel drive.

As for the wheel suspension, it is quite standard for similar cars. The front is independent, MacPherson type, the rear is independent, with double wishbones.

The brakes on all wheels are disc, while the front ones are ventilated. The electric power steering on the car is electric, so you don’t have to monitor the fluid level.

Toyota Vish configurations

A total of 5 configurations have been developed for Toyota Vish:

The first 4 trim levels are quite poor. Cars in trim levels A and X are equipped with simple halogen headlights. Xenon is installed in the G and S trim levels. LED head optics are not provided on Visha at all. In addition, xenon optics are installed complete with an automatic high beam switching system.
Electronic options on minivans include ABS, EBD, BAS, ESP and TCS.

As for the Z package, it is much richer. In this configuration, climate control, adaptive cruise control, electric windshield heating and full electrical accessories in the cabin will be added to the above systems.

What's the price

Despite the fact that the car is no longer produced, it is very popular in Russia and used Vichys are imported from Japan quite en masse. The main market for their sale is Vladivostok, and the maximum number of consumers live in the East of our country.

Prices for the second-generation restyled Toyota Wish start at 850,000 rubles, which corresponds to $12,700. This applies to cars manufactured in 2013 and with a mileage of around 100,000 km (mostly still lower).
Newer cars from 2015 and younger, with mileages up to 50,000 km and no miles in Russia, can be bought for around 1 – 1.1 million rubles ($15 – 16,500).
I think the prices are quite attractive, although you can’t call them junk.

Summary

As mentioned above, Toyota Vish is not produced today. This, of course, does not mean that a new generation of this machine will not appear, but for now the fact remains a fact. Despite all the popularity in Russia, it is clear why this happened. The base of the Corolla does not meet the requirements of the time in the Land of the Rising Sun. Almost all of Vish's competitors have hybrid or electric modifications of their cars, and this is a powerful argument in the competition. True, Japanese Corollas have hybrid modifications, but apparently some technical features do not make it possible to automatically transfer them to Vish. It seems that as soon as these problems are solved, we can expect either a new Vish or some analogue of it.

Video review of the second generation Toyota Vish

Toyota Wish, 2006

About the car: the car is after restyling, that is, a new panel has appeared in the gearbox area, a type-tronic gearbox is a very convenient thing, front rear lights, bumpers. Xenon headlights with corrector, they shine perfectly, the stops are on LEDs. There were noticeable scratches on the body in the area of the rear right wheel and on the hood. I immediately changed the oil in the engine and gearbox, and the air filter. I didn't change the cabin filter, it's clean. The interior of the Toyota Wish is a dark-colored dashboard, the seats are all in perfect condition, the mats are like new. The interior is not smoky or burned. The jack and the balloon are new. There is a standard player that plays DVDs, MP3, CDs, and an adapter is installed in the radio when setting the car alarm and immobilizer. The reversing camera is color, shows the directions of movement, works like everyone else, nothing new. The heater and air conditioner blow perfectly, I haven’t changed the antifreeze, it currently shows a density of -25 degrees, before winter I’ll change it or add concentrate. The windows of the Toyota Wish are all automatic and learnable. The 1 ZZ engine is now installed on many Japanese ones. Volume 1.8 pulls normally, it’s enough for him. There is no comparison with the Camry in terms of dynamics, although both are 1.8 liters, and the weight is almost the same, or the Camry is a little larger, I don’t remember. On the highway, when Toyota Wish was driving, it calmly went 120-160, it didn’t go any further, the city consumption was 9-10, the highway was 6-8. Tank - 60 liters, tested on the highway several times. On the highway, when I drove a car on 95 gasoline in the city on 92 gasoline, I refueled strictly at a gas station of one company. In terms of acceleration dynamics, again, the Toyota Wish cannot be compared with the Camry; if you press the pedal, it grinds - the difference of almost 10 years is felt. In general, the Toyota Wish suspension performs its function 100% and provides a comfortable and safe ride.

Advantages : design. Comfort in the cabin. Dynamics. Reliability.

Flaws : Have not found.

Toyota Wish, 2007

The car is used daily, daily mileage is from 30 to 250 km. In six months, 15 thousand have been covered. The engine is a 1zz-fe chain, confidently pulls the Toyota Wish around the city at a speed of 80-2500 rpm. When driving in traffic, the engine does not have to rev above 3000 rpm; it pulls confidently even at low speeds. The tiptronic automatic is a good thing, however, in my opinion, it lacks 5th gear (4 in the base) at speeds above 140. To overdrive on the highway, you have to switch to manual mode, the automatic shifts one gear down and the revs up. The 28 cm of snow that fell showed that, having buried yourself, you engage first gear in manual mode and crawl out of the snowdrift. So in a harmless situation you can’t hit the car. I haven’t changed the spark plugs yet, I pour 92-grade gasoline at a proven gas station, because according to the Japanese manual, pouring 95-grade gasoline will not increase engine power, it will only reduce the likelihood of detonation. Fuel consumption: city 8-10, highway 6-7 liters, of course it all depends on how you press the gas pedal. The Toyota Wish feels like it drives like a Kaldina, the only thing is that the throttle response has partially decreased due to the greater weight. A significant loss of power is felt when the load in the cabin exceeds 250 kg (4 people). The suspension is hard, it becomes softer with a load of more than 250 kg, the Toyota Wish holds the road confidently, but on slippery and unpaved surfaces with very active steering at speeds of more than 60 it can carry the rear, which is due to the decently long car. Electric power steering, informative steering wheel. The ground clearance of the Toyota Wish is 16.5 cm, so far it hasn’t caught anything from below; on the “Fielder” the thermal protection on the muffler was constantly scraping. The brakes are front disc from a Camry with ABS, standard rear drum from a Corolla, with a scissor brake instead of a handbrake. When braking, the car stops dead in its tracks. The interior is huge, 7-seater (two seats in the trunk), there is no foot tunnel in the second row of seats. Comfortable - the car is comfortable for moving 4-5 people over long distances. You don't get tired while driving.

Advantages : comfortable and roomy family minivan.

Flaws : No.
