The French representative of the C-Class from Renault has been competing with other automakers since 1995. Now the fame of the model is not the same as before, so the manufacturer is releasing a new fourth generation Renault Megane 2018-2019 to conquer the market.

The car has every chance of making a splash among other automakers. The show took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015. A year later, sales of the car began, so now we can tell you in more detail about the new invention of French engineers.

So far the car is not for sale in Russia and it is unknown whether it will be at all. The point is that production, unlike here, is not established. The car will have to be imported from abroad before being sold, which will significantly increase the price tag.

Initially, only the hatchback was presented due to its greater prevalence, then a station wagon and a sedan appeared. Simultaneously with this model, a new one was introduced - . Both cars have an almost identical appearance, which suggests that they are actively trying to bring all their cars to a common style.

The muzzle acquired stylish stamps in the form of relief lines on the hood. There are new LED headlights of an extremely interesting shape; they are connected to a chrome-plated narrow radiator grille. The front bumper of the car has a muscular shape with chrome inserts and small fog lights. The muzzle is definitely one of the most attractive parts of a car.


The side of the Renault Megane has no less muscular shapes, for example, highly inflated wheel arches. There are some decorative elements such as chrome inserts, false gills, etc. The stamping at the bottom looks stylish, which is often confused from a distance with a molding painted in the body color.

The rear part received a line of continuation of the muscular swelling of the arches. Narrow, yet long LED headlights look great. In the middle they come down to the company logo. There is an impressive gap between the huge bumper and the trunk lid, which serves as the luggage compartment opening handle. A huge anti-wing was installed, equipped with an additional brake light. The bumper received relief shapes, plastic protection with reflectors and 1 chrome-plated exhaust pipe.

Design changes, of course, changed the dimensions compared to the previous generation:

  • length – 4359 mm;
  • width – 1814 mm;
  • height – 1447 mm;
  • wheelbase – 2669 mm;
  • ground clearance - 145 mm.

The dimensions of the sedan are slightly different, it is longer and slightly lower, the station wagon is accordingly even larger. The model is built on the CMF platform. There is a sports version, which has a different design, a different color - Iron Blue and improved technical characteristics.

Once inside, you realize that the future is already here. The designers created an interior that is radically different from others. This is a risky but necessary step. You immediately pay attention to the center console, it reminds you. An 8-inch touch screen is installed, which is responsible for everything, navigation, multimedia and climate. Below there are a couple of washers and a few buttons to control the most important functions.


In general, the interior looks expensive, it is trimmed in leather, equipped with chrome inserts and the build quality is also at an excellent level. If you look at the tunnel, it surprises you with a box with cup holders, as you have seen this on more expensive cars. There is also a visible electronic parking brake button, it looks really expensive.

The shape of the 3-spoke steering column decorated with chrome lines is attractive. Of course, the steering wheel is equipped with keys that allow you to control various systems without distraction. The instrument panel is divided into three wells, the central one is equipped with a tachometer and on-board computer display, the outer ones show the fuel level in the tank and oil pressure.


The presence of a projection on the windshield is surprising, since most competitors do not have it. The seats are mostly upholstered in fabric, but have leather inserts. Of course, they can be completely covered in leather, but for additional money. The seats are heated and have impressive lateral support.

The back row of the Renault Megane 2019 is not as spacious as we would like, but it’s enough. Three people can fit without problems. At the rear there is an armrest with cup holders and separate air deflectors.

The doors are beautifully decorated, look at the photo. The trunk volume of 550 liters is not bad, I’m glad that it is large in area, that is, you can put a lot of bags, everything will fit.

The Megana 2018 buyer will be offered a huge number of engines. An interesting approach is to install not all engines on a sedan; all units are available for a hatchback. Most units are weak, designed only for city driving, but there is also a powerful motor.

Gasoline

The line is equipped with 4 gasoline power units. They offer two 1.2-liter Energy TCe engines.

  1. The first produces 100 horsepower and 175 units of torque. There is no dynamics, so you can see the characteristics in the table above. Fuel consumption according to the manufacturer is 7 liters in the city. Since the unit is very weak, it will constantly have to be turned at high speeds, which leads to an increase in consumption.
  2. The second also turbocharged engine of the Renault Megane technically remains the same. Its power and torque were increased by 30 units. This resulted in a 2 second reduction in acceleration. Consumption decreased slightly, by 0.2 liters.

The second series of gasoline units has a volume of 1.6 liters. These are 4-cylinder engines with multipoint injection.

  1. The first produces 115 horsepower, accelerating the car to hundreds in 12 seconds. The torque is 156 H*m.
  2. The second is distinguished by the presence of a turbine, increasing power to 205 horsepower, torque has risen to almost 300. Acceleration to hundreds now takes 7 seconds, maximum speed has increased to 230 km/h. Consumption of 8 liters in the city sounds a little strange, although in quiet mode it is possible.

Diesel

These units have the same distribution scheme along the line. Motors with double boost, with Common Rail injection and DOHC timing belt. The units are turbocharged and have a volume of 1.5 liters.

  1. The first has only 90 horsepower and 220 units of torque. It will not surprise anyone with its dynamics, but its fuel consumption of only 4 liters of diesel fuel in the city will please you.
  2. The second version is slightly more powerful – 115 horsepower and 250 H*m of torque. The increase in power did not improve the driving dynamics in any way; fuel consumption also remained the same.

The second line of 4-cylinder diesel turbo engines with a volume of 1.6 liters and a direct injection system.

  1. The first such engine, Renault Megane 2018-2019, received 130 horsepower and torque of 320 units. Again, the dynamics are poor - the first hundred in 10 seconds, the maximum speed is 198 km/h. The manufacturer claims that the engine consumes about 5 liters of fuel in the city.
  2. The latest unit in the line is a copy of the previous one, its power is increased to 165 horsepower and torque to 380 units. Its dynamics are unknown, the manufacturer did not disclose the data.

Suspension and gearbox


These engines are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, and you can additionally install a 6-speed EDC robot. Power is transmitted only to the front axle; all-wheel drive vehicles are not offered.

The Megan platform - CMF involves installing the body on an independent MacPherson suspension at the front and a semi-independent beam system at the rear. The 4Control system makes the car fully steerable, meaning the rear wheels turn at speeds of up to 50 km/h, thereby improving handling. Initially, the system will be installed only on vehicles, after which they will also be installed on civilian cars.

The chassis also has stiffness settings; Sport, Normal, Comfort, Perso, Eco modes are available. The driver selects the modes directly using a button from inside the cabin.

Renault Megane price and configurations

Sales in Russia have not yet begun, so we cannot tell you the exact prices. At home, the car is sold at a cost of at least 19,200 euros. There are three configurations (Life, Zen and Business) characterized by the presence of various equipment.


Basic will receive:

  • air conditioner;
  • leather steering wheel;
  • 4.2-inch multimedia display;
  • window regulators;
  • 16th wheels, etc.

Other versions are equipped with a large number of features, and there are also additional options. The final version may receive the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems package, which implies the presence of a sign recognition system, lane control, blind spot monitoring and so on. Also, the model in the top version will receive a large 8-inch multimedia display, adaptive cruise control and 17-wheel drive.

The fourth generation Renault Megane 2018-2019 certainly turned out good, much better than its predecessor. It’s a pity that the car most likely will not be sold in our country due to the lack of localization of production and the economic situation.

Renault Megane was first conceived as a small family car in the “C” segment. It appeared on our market back in the nineties, and since then has changed several generations. The most iconic of them was the Renault Megane II, which became a five-door. Now only the third modification of the Renault Megane III hatchback is supplied to the Russian market.

Foreign factories where Renault Megane is made

Until recently, the Renault Megane hatchback was assembled in only three factories. They were located in France, Turkey and Spain. As you know, the most powerful enterprise is located in the city of Douai in France. But these models did not reach our market. The second best build quality is the plant in Valencia, Spain. From there we also saw some games. Mostly Turkish assemblers worked for our consumers.

Over the course of a year, the car was assembled in Russia, but our production “did not reach” European standards. Therefore, it was stopped.

Last year, Renault Megane began to be assembled in Russia at the Moscow Avtoframos plant.

Localization of production in the domestic market did not affect the cost of the model.

As a company representative said, this only reduced the time it takes to deliver finished cars to dealer showrooms across the country.

This fixation of cost is due to the fact that from the very beginning they planned to assemble the hatchback from us. Thus, the cost of it was made affordable and acceptable for the Russian consumer from the very beginning.

We assemble a model with a 1.6-liter engine. It comes with a choice of manual or automatic transmission. The car with a two-liter unit will be delivered to us from Turkey, as before.

Renault Megane configurations

Russian consumers will see our Renault Megane hatchback in six trim levels. The engine displacement is 1.6 liters. The cost of the model for the basic configuration starts at 569 thousand rubles. The maximum price is set at 784 thousand rubles. Delivery of the car to the dealer's showroom is calculated separately.

Two-liter Renault Megane will also be available to customers. But, they are collected only in Turkey. These cars are made in two trim levels.

What does our Renault Megane look like?

The Russian version of Renault Megane will be eight centimeters longer than its European brother. Its trunk was increased to 75 liters, but the total weight of the model decreased by eight kilograms. The wheelbase of the model is 2641 millimeters.

Engineers have improved the visibility from the driver's seat. This was achieved by recessing the corner of the front glass. The rear window is small at first glance, but has good visibility.

In technical terms, the European and Russian versions are practically no different from each other. The suspension design and gearbox have been preserved.

It is noted that this car has become safer, and its design is so good that it will satisfy the needs of any consumer. Is it so?

In terms of appearance, the car received a modified radiator grille and improved headlight shape. The sporty curves of the body are the same in both our and the European versions. Inside, the car will delight you with rich interior trim and a very attractive dashboard design.

The driving performance of our sedan is in no way inferior to its European counterpart. The same goes for acceleration dynamics. You won't have to complain about comfort either. Of course, a car will be better driven on smooth asphalt than off-road. But some pits are not a problem for him.

I was pleasantly pleased with the color scheme of the model. Some colors are only available to our customers. For example, “blue mineral” or “gray plate”. Therefore, rest assured that where the Renault Megane is assembled does not in any way affect its technical characteristics. The Russian layout is in no way inferior to its European counterpart.

The new Renault Megane 3, according to technical characteristics, belongs to the C class of cars with a spacious interior for 5 seats, a trunk with a volume of 368 liters. There are 3 petrol engines available to choose from: 1.6 - 106 hp, 1.6 - 114 hp. and 2.0 – 138 hp. Ventilated disc brakes at the front and disc brakes at the rear. Fuel tank capacity is 60 liters. Car weight from 1280 kg.

In addition to the well-known engines, a new 1.6 16V 114 hp is available. The 2015 Renault Megane can be purchased with a manual transmission or with the new X-Tronic CVT (automatic transmission). The car is specially prepared for Russia with high ground clearance, additional sound insulation, anti-gravel coating, and energy-intensive suspension. The Megane body is reliable and safe. According to the EuroNCAP crash test, the car scored 3 stars out of 5.

The Renault Megane was launched into mass production in 1995. This model replaced it, while the Megan design was created using the components and assemblies of its predecessor. The choice of body styles was very wide: three- and five-door hatchback, sedan, station wagon, coupe, etc. And in 1996, the ancestor of European compact vans Megane Scenic appeared, which later became simply “”.
