Tank volume of Kia Sid hatchback. Technical characteristics of Kia Ceed

The fuel tank is an important structural element of any car. Thanks to its presence, the car has a certain reserve of autonomy. Fuel filled into the tank must be held securely there, not leak out or evaporate, and be used as efficiently as possible. Traditionally, passenger car fuel tanks are installed in the rear row of seats. It is located in such a way as to minimize the risk of its deformation in the event of an accident and damage to the car body. The Kia Sid tank volume according to technical data is 53 liters . This fits well with the requirement for autonomy - such a reserve is enough for a modern car for more than 500 kilometers.

As a result of experiments carried out by Kia Sid car owners, it was possible to establish that a “dry” car can hold almost 65 liters of fuel. This is exactly the volume that you get for autonomous operation when fully refueled (not to the point of “shooting”, but “to the neck”).

The Kia Sid fuel tank, like any other car, is attached to the body using tape clamps. To reduce heating at high air temperatures, or under the influence of other elements of the fuel system, which can lead to an increase in the volume of fuel in the Kia cee’d tank, special heat-insulating gasket systems are used during installation.

Fuel tank

Fuel tanks are made of steel, aluminum or plastic. It is the latter material that is becoming increasingly popular in the manufacture of tanks for modern cars. Due to the properties of plastic, when manufacturing a tank, you can give it almost any shape. This allows you to make the most efficient use of the space for its installation. It is for this reason that the volume of the fuel tank in the modern Kia Sid is noticeably larger in comparison with cars produced 20-30 or more years ago. In addition, the plastic fuel tank is not afraid of corrosion, which affects its durability and practicality.

Fuel tanks made of metal have welded seams. It is interesting that for each car, and even for models of the same series (but with different body options), the manufacturer develops a separate tank shape. This is also done to optimize the installation space.

Refueling

The fuel tank must be refilled through the neck located on the left or right side of the car, on the rear fender. The neck and the fuel tank itself are connected by a special pipeline. These two elements of the fuel system must be calculated by the manufacturer in such a way as to ensure the ability to pass fuel at a rate of at least 50 l/min. At the end of refueling, the neck must be closed with a screw cap.

Despite the fact that the technical documentation indicates the volume of the Kia cee’d fuel tank is equal to 53 liters, it has been experimentally established that in reality more than 60 liters can be filled into the car. To be very precise, this is the situation.

  • fuel tank volume 53 liters;
  • reserve compartment 3 liters;
  • The neck is about 8 liters.

Replacing the fuel tank (removing the gas tank)

You will need: keys “10, 14”, pliers with thin jaws, a screwdriver with a flat blade.

1. Reduce the pressure in the power system

2. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Disconnect the wiring block and fuel line from the fuel module

4. Loosen the clamp securing the fuel tank hose to the filler pipe, slide the clamp along the hose and disconnect the hose

5. Using pliers, squeeze the bent ears of the clamp of the air outlet hose of the fuel tank, slide the clamp along the hose and remove the hose from the pipe.

6. In a similar way, disconnect the hoses of the fuel vapor recovery system from the fuel tank pipes.

7. Place a support under the fuel tank, unscrew the bolts of the fuel tank mounting clamps...

This is how the bolts for securing the clamps are located.

8. ...and remove the tank from the car.

9. Loosen the clamp securing the hose to the fuel tank, slide the clamp along the hose...

10... and disconnect the hose.

11. Remove the valve from the fuel tank. To remove filling pipe fuel tank, perform the following operations.

12. Remove the left rear wheel arch liner

13. Remove one bolt securing the lower bracket of the air exhaust pipe to the body panel.

14. ...and one bolt for securing the upper bracket.

15. Remove the rubber seal from the filler neck.

16. Remove the four mounting bolts

17.....and remove the filler pipe by leading it through the left rear wheel well.

18. Squeeze the bent ears of the fuel tank air outlet hose clamp with pliers and slide the clamp along the hose.

Kia Ceed is a compact golf-class hatchback, also positioned as a category C car. The model has been on the assembly line since 2006 and is located between Rio and Optima in the Kia lineup. It should also be noted that in 2007 the car replaced the Cerato hatchback model. The premiere of the first generation Kia Ceed took place on September 28, 2006 in Paris. The Koreans initially positioned this model for the European market. In addition to the five-door hatchback, three-door versions were also produced based on the Ceed.

The first production Ceed car rolled off the production line in Slovakia. The model became very popular in Europe. So, as of May 23, 2008, exactly 200 thousand “Seeds” of all modifications were produced. It should be noted that the Ceed is based on the Hyundai i30 hatchback platform. Kia Ceed received gasoline and diesel engines with a maximum power of 143 hp. With. Kia Ceed's competitors include Volkswagen Golf, Mazda 3, Peugeot 308, Citroen C4 and other representatives of the B-class. In 2012, the Kia Ceed 1.4 MPI LX tested using the Euro NCAP method scored the maximum five stars. Thus, the model has become one of the safest in its class.

Kia Ceed Sportswagon

From 2012 to 2018, the second generation Kia Ceed was on the assembly line. The car was a hatchback and station wagon with a new Kia design concept, which was developed by Peter Schreyer. In 2015, the premiere of a restyled hatchback took place, which received 1.4 and 1.6 gasoline engines with a capacity of 100-130 horsepower. Moreover, since 2013, deliveries of a “charged” modification with a 1.6-liter 204-horsepower engine have continued.

Today, any car, including the Kia Sid, that uses fuel technology, cannot do without such a part as a fuel tank. Its presence allows for a short-term reserve of autonomy. Structurally, the gas tank is a sealed product that does not allow fuel to spontaneously leak out.

According to established tradition, the vast majority of manufacturers install tanks in their passenger cars in the rear seat row area. This arrangement is dictated by the desire of the developers to protect this part from serious damage in the event of an accident.

How many liters is the tank? Regarding the practical Kia Sid, we note that the volume of usable space expected to accommodate fuel in the tank, according to the manufacturer’s officially stated information, is 53 liters. This indicator allows the car to plow open roads, covering a distance of over 500 km without the need to refuel with a new portion of fuel.

During the experiments, the owners of this model came to the conclusion that as much as 65 liters can be forcibly “pumped” into the Kia Sid tank. This is the fuel volume that fits, what is called “under the neck”, and not until the effect of “shooting” the refueling nozzle appears.

The fuel tank in the “Korean” we are considering is secured using tape-type clamps. The design uses special heat-insulating inserts that prevent heating of the fuel and its subsequent expansion under the influence of high external temperatures.

Fuel tank

The material for the production of a tank for a KIA Ceed car can be not only steel, but also aluminum or even plastic. In modern cars, it is the last of the three designated material options that is gaining confident popularity. Possessing fluidity, hot plastic can take any shape during production, which is convenient when using the space to install the product on the body. This explains the increase in tank volume of modern cars in comparison with models produced 2-3 decades ago. Also, this material is not subject to corrosion, which significantly increases its resource intensity.

Metal products contain welds. Each model from any manufacturer, and often modifications related to one model line, have a fuel tank that has an individual shape and unique dimensional parameters. The desire for rationalization in the use of spare space for installation forces us to lean towards this method.

Refueling

The tank is filled with fuel through its neck. Usually it is located on one of the sides of the car (in the rear fender), as indicated by a special hatch. Between the neck and the tank there is an intermediate element - a filling pipe. The capacity of the neck and pipe must ensure the passage of fuel at a flow rate of at least 50 liters per minute. Having completed the filling procedure, the neck is closed with a standard screw cap.

Let's return to the maximum amount of fuel that the owners managed to fit into the standard KIA Ceed tank. Let us remember that its value exceeded the 60-liter barrier.

If we take this moment scrupulously, the situation is like this:

  • the volume of the fuel tank, as we found out, is 53 liters;
  • up to 3 liters can accumulate in the reserve compartment;
  • The neck can hold at least 8 liters.
